Chapter six:
Frisk finds herself surrounded in darkness before a voice manages to come through.
"You've come too far to give up now. Let determination push you forward."
Frisk manages to open her eyes though she doesn't see anyone. She could have sworn that there was a voice there as she woke up. She shifts to slightly get up. She blinks realizing that she landed on an old mattress. She spots some fake yellow flowers and plucked petals. She glances around though she appears to be all alone. She shifts getting up and quickly checks the contents in her bag. She finds that things didn't get as squished as she thought. She sighs in relief and takes a picture of the old bed. She figured it makes a good photo. She turns away planning to continue on from here... Hopefully... She begins walking down the hall to her left as it's closer. She finds that it is rather empty though it still appears to be the same area.
In decorations at least.
Frisk pauses realizing there's so much random stuff thrown around. She hasn't gone very far down the hall. She can see that the collection gets worse and worse.
Just random items like lamps or chairs, and some random garbage like empty paint cans or broken paintbrushes.
Frisk tries to ignore it and keeps going. She tries to ignore all of the junk around her. She pauses seeing a staircase leading upwards. "You've got to be kidding me." She sighs then glances back as she thinks about going there. Though she worries it'll be a waste of time. She might as well press on. Maybe she'll find a window or something. She doubts that she'd find enough materials to make a strong enough, or long enough rope. She's not sure about trusting any of the old ropes in here. She draws closer to the stairs staring where she wants to go. She reaches the bottom step when a voice speaks.
"Hey!" The tone is aggressive and rather angry.
Frisk jumps and whips around to see an angry faced preteen boy.
The boy is standing between a pile of trash and the wall hiding himself. He spins around grabbing teddy bear fluff from a bucket. He has on white skin tight clothes messily stitched together with black thread, even a cloth mask over his face, and a painted white pole up the back of his clothes through a hole in the back. He spins back to Frisk. "I am tired of dummies like me getting hit and just having to take it!"
Frisk blinks in slight confusion, though she supposes an angry dummy is possible in a place like this.
"I will end you!" This 'mad dummy' begins to throw the fluff at her... Which doesn't fly through the air all that well.
She finds it easy to just get out of the way.
After he runs out the mad dummy picks it all up. "Don't think you've won yet!" He snarls and pulls out a white rabbit figurine missing its ears. "Dummies! Attack!" He starts to throw more fluff at Frisk this time trying to make it seem it's the figurine.
Frisk just wants this to be done and move on. So she decides to try something. The attempted attacks seem to follow her. She goes around the mad dummy who then tosses some fluff at himself. She can see that the act was quite deliberate.
The way he just threw fluff at his face. "Ow! Not me you dummies!" He yells at the figurine and Frisk moves around to his view again. She hopes she can 'hurt' him enough to just let her go on. She doesn't want to be chased by an angry insane person. She lets the fluff fly at her, and seeing he's low she goes behind him again. She sees that the same thing happens as some fluff sticks to his mask.
"Ugh! You are all so useless!" He snarls glaring daggers at the figurine. "I'll do it myself you stupid stupid dummies!" He tosses the figurine away as it lands on the floor.
Frisk moves ready to repeat the process.
However before they can fight water starts trickling down upon the mad dummy.
"Ow! Acid rain?!" The mad dummy questions not even happy about the indoor 'rain'. "Screw this!" He hurries off grabbing the figurine along the way.
Frisk looks up as the the kid who she guesses is a ghost monster comes over. She remembers seeing him back with Toriel.
He is holding a clear jug and a wet cloth.
Frisk can tell that it is most likely water in there as it's clear with no bubbles.
"Oh. I'm sorry. Did I interrupt you?" The other questions and looks down. "I'm sorry. You guys just seemed to be having so much fun... I thought we could be friends... Oh dear... I'm so sorry..."
"No. It's okay." Frisk assures the other at least glad that the stubborn person is gone. She wasn't sure how she'd get rid of him if the other hadn't arrived. She wonders if the acid rain part was made up by the stubborn one. She pushes that thought away as she probably will never understand the mind of someone crazy.
"Oh? Well... I'm glad to hear it." He shifts then looks away as if nervous. "Say... Do you want to come over? To my place... I mean if you don't want to you don't have to... I'm sorry for pushing you..."
Frisk supposes it won't really hurt. She feels like she owes him for taking care of the other for her. "Sure." She sees him instantly perk up at hearing this.
"Y-You mean it...?" He questions clearly in shock. He takes a few moments before he manages to recover. "Great... Follow me..." He leads her upstairs as she goes along with him.
"I didn't catch your name." Frisk mentions to the other. Hoping to break the awkward silence. She feels a part of her missing real conversation from a sane human.
"Oh... How rude of me to not introduce myself... I'm Naptsablook."
Frisk starts to wonder where they get these names from. She swears it's like they tried to go for another language. Though she supposes that even humans have weird names. She can't help a passing thought of wonder of what they were once named... When they were 'human' just mentally unwell. "My names Frisk."
"It's nice to meet you..." Napstablook leads Frisk down the hall then through a door.
Inside doesn't look all that bad. There's a few holes in the floorboards though they are small, an old dirty fridge, a box painted like an old style TV, a desk with a computer, and three tape recorders lined up against one wall.
"You can make yourself at home... If you want to..." Napstablook offers so Frisk sits where the floor looks most stable. He settles himself by the computer.
Frisk glances to the tape recorders that are nearby to her. Her mind wondering what they could have on them, and if she should ask. She isn't sure if he'd be comfortable with it or get angry. She knows that he is showing himself as shy and a bit depressive, she wonders if that was because it was brought over from how he was before, though he is still insane. She doesn't want to do something that might throw him into an episode... If they get those here... She doesn't even know what the other is actually capable of. She hasn't tried to fight him so for all she knows he could be strong. She also can't let herself forget the holes in the floor.
One wrong slam to the ground and the floor could break.
No fantasy would be able to heal injuries or possible death.
Frisk starts cursing herself in her own head. She's been focusing on small things when she should really be trying to get out. She doesn't understand why she is doing all of this. She probably shouldn't just be sitting and chilling out. She contemplates getting up and leaving to continue her search for a way out.
"Oh... Do you want to listen to them?"
Frisk jumps as she is brought out of her thoughts and she turns to look to him. Her eyes wide from the surprise of his sudden voice. She blinks calming herself down. "If you don't mind." She hopes in her head that it isn't anything disturbing.
"No... You can play them... Only if that's what you want to do... I won't force you..."
Frisk glances back to tapes wondering if she should really listen to them. She isn't sure if it'd be a trap or not. She supposes she might as well try. She can stop it if it's something bad. She reaches over and picks up one. She hesitantly presses play only to perk up in surprise.
A nice yet kind of ominous music begins to play almost sounding digital in some ways.
It is actually a rather nice surprise to Frisk who had expected other things; like maybe recordings from Napstablook or cries of victims in the supposed war.
"Do you like it...?" Napstablook sounds rather nervous as Frisk continues to let the music play. "It's my favorite one... I like to make music..."
"It's pretty cool." Frisk admits honestly as she thinks that it was well executed. She swears it could be from a show, movie, or even a video game. She can't help in feeling some disappointment that such talent is stuck here. She does guess it's possible he couldn't have made this without becoming Napstablook. Either way she thinks it's a bit of a tragedy.
If Napstablook really did make this. Then if only Napstablook was a normal person it would have become a beloved song. He could also do with some extra confidence.
Frisk can't change that though.
"Sometimes... I listen to it while laying on the ground. Feeling like trash..." Napstablook explains, and Frisk can't help a slightly sympathetic look.
Frisk finds it sad that if only this male got the real proper help, he would have been popular. She feels terrible for the injustice that they all had to face here.
"Would you like to join me? ... It's up to you... You don't have to..."
Frisk feels sympathy for him. Though her brain tries to work out whether or not this is all an act or real. She can't quite decide since it is so convincing.
If he is faking it all he's pretty good at it.
Frisk figures she might as well go with it. "Okay." She follows the male and lays down on the floor in the middle of the room with him. She has the tops of their heads facing each other. She hopes that it'll help slow down an attack if he tries it. Even as she feels a bit more comfortable around him. She blinks seeing a rushed galaxy painting on the ceiling, with white paint dots for stars. She takes in the work as they lay there in silence. She lets herself stare at it for a good few minutes before getting up.
Hearing her do so Napstablook does the same. He turns so they are now looking at each other. He doesn't mind as Frisk turns off the music. "That was fun." He mentions slightly surprising Frisk. "We should do it again sometime..." He shifts as if a little self conscious. "You don't have to..." He heads back to his computer and settles there once more.
Frisk puts the tape recorder back though a part of her wishes she could bring it. She could preserve it and show off his talent. Maybe she could even get him the help he needs. She doesn't want to push boundaries with him however. She supposes if it gets destroyed if police storm the place... Then that's just it. She heads for the door pausing when she almost reaches it.
"Are you leaving? ... Well thank you for coming over... It was nice... Feel free to drop by again... I guess..."
Frisk turns to look over her shoulder and offers him a smile. "It was nice. Keep making music. You're good at it. See you." She turns back and heads through the door. She continues on her way to try to find where to go to next. She does start to wonder if they actually do want help. She wonders if going to the 'surface' means that they can get help, or means that they can murder others. She supposes that they could just end up insane people who want peace between them and other humans. So she isn't sure if they actually want the help that they need. She decides to forget about that as she pushes onward. She feels like she's been trying to escape forever. She wishes there was a place she could have had some rest at. She pauses finding plastic snails sitting in a small straight racetrack.
"Oh. Hello again..."
Frisk turns to see Napstablook arriving to this part. She guesses he used a faster way to get here. "Hi." She gives him a wave of greeting wondering if he's trying to be a stalker. She isn't sure about having him follow her creepily around.
"I run snail races here... They're called Thundersnail." Napstablook explains and Frisk starts to understand why he came here. "I can let you try to win for five gold... if you win you get four gold... Sorry... I have to make money somehow..."
Frisk isn't sure she actually has the money he wants.
"But... Because you made my day better I want to give you the first race free... If that's okay with you..."
"Sure." Frisk agrees wiling to accept the break from walking through the building. She also realizes that each snail has a number drawn on it in sharpie.
"Ok... Cool I guess... Your snail is number four..." Napstablook heads over to the snails and sits behind them. He pulls them back causing them to make a wind up sound. "Go!" He releases them and they start to head for the finish line. "You should probably cheer on your snail... If you want..."
Frisk isn't fully sure she's comfortable cheering for a plastic snail. She takes a breath before deciding to do it. She might as well have at least a little fun in her adventure. "Go number four!" She cheers watching it go along with the others. She can't help a small giggle before she is able to continue. "You can make it! I know you can!"
The snail actually seems to be winning like a boost in confidence. It crosses the finish line first.
"You won..." Napstablook heads over to Frisk. "I'll give you four gold... Good job I guess..."
"Oh. No it's okay. That was my free one." Frisk refuses admitting to herself that she'd feel a little bad if she took his money. She does get an idea though. "Say. You don't have a bed at home do you?"
"No... I like sleeping on the ground..."
Frisk feels a little disappointed as sleeping on the floor would make her ache bad. "Oh. Well I'm kind of tired. Is there a spot close by I could safely use?" She will sleep on the floor if she has to even if it's unpleasant.
"Well... I guess there's my cousins place..." Napstablook admits shifting. "He left it abandoned... I could let you in... I'm sure he won't mind... If you want..."
"That'd be nice. Thank you." Frisk admits and follows to the neighboring room to his 'home'. She watches him use a key to unlock the door.
"I had this made... Because I didn't want the key to be gone forever if we lost it... Which did happen after he left..." Napstablook opens the door and Frisk steps inside.
Frisk stays by the door so it can't close as it swings inward.
There is a lot of pink in the room in various shades to make it look nice. There is a small TV on an end table, curtains by a hole in the wall, several journal books placed around in the floor, a single bed with pink sheets, a journal on said bed, a poster for probably a play, and a decent sized round rug that looks straight from a kids or teens room.
"You can have the key..." Napstablook brings Frisks attention back to him. He hands her said key. "Just don't lose it... When you feel rested you can see me at my snail races... I do gotta work..." He leaves after that and Frisk calls out a thanks.
Frisk closes the door locking it from the inside. She turns and heads towards the bed not sure if she should read the journals. She does pause to glance at them and her curiosity ignites; rising the longer she stares. She moves her eyes away and heads for the bed. She takes time to brush dust off of it pausing as she reaches the one journals location. She supposes one peek might be okay. She might gain an upper hand if she finds this family member later on. She will probably want that advantage. Or it could be her trying to find an excuse to read it. She opens it and starts to read.
Today Shyrens sister fell down. As the whole thing has been put. It is a very sad day. Shyren has just withdrawn. I wanted to help her. So I told her that one day me, her and Blooky would perform on stage together. It seemed to help her a little.
Frisk wonders what this person or well monster means by fell down. She supposes it could be an illness, or perhaps running out of medication. She might ask someone about that later. Maybe if she sees Sans or Papyrus. Though she has a feeling Sans will explain it better. She moves on flipping to a random part in the journal. She finds that all the pages are blank. So she picks up the next journal. She finds one entry and feels like this is a waste of journals. She reads it deciding that there shouldn't be many entries.
I love buying a new diary for every entry that I make. Oh! Oh how I love collecting diaries! They're so cute and so much fun!
Frisk supposes that everyone does have their own things they collect. She just isn't sure if it is the madness in this persons mind, or just how they decided to collect things. She grabs the next one to continue onward.
Our cousin left us to go into the body of a training dummy. It's just me and Blooky left now. I noticed Blooky looked upset. They asked me if I was going to leave and go corporeal as well. I saw Blooky resign to the idea that I would leave too. Come on, Blooky. Don't give up. You know I'd never leave you. Besides there's no way that I'd ever find a body that suits what I want.
Frisk starts to worry about Napstablook as she is sure he is Blooky. She looks to the door wondering if his sadness comes from his family leaving. She actually feels sorry for him. She doesn't want to ponder it for long grabbing another journal.
I met someone... Well interesting to say the least. It happened today. I had spread word a week ago about my new Human fanclub. Only one other actually showed up. She is definitely a huge dork. Not to mention those awful cartoons she is obsessed with. But she's actually pleasant to be around. I wanna see her again.
Frisk isn't sure if she should be flattered by the Human fanclub mention, or if she should be a little disturbed; considering that all of them are humans who think they're monsters. She swears it is almost ironic in a way. She picks up the next one and finds a disappointingly short entry.
Oh my! My diary collection is grown so much! I have like five wonderful diaries now! This is amazing!
Frisk just goes to the final journal. She opens it to read the only entry.
My friend surprised me with something today. She had sketched out design ideas for a body. One she wants to make for me. I couldn't believe what I was hearing at first. The form is beyond my wildest dreams and fantasies! Can you imagine me in such a wonderful body? I can really feel like myself! Finally! I can't become a star with the way that I look now. Oh... Blooky... I got so carried away I forgot... Well um... Im sorry Blooky... But my dreams won't wait for anyone. Please forgive me.
Frisk feels some sympathy for Napstablook. She wonders if they really were related, or were good friends before they gained their monster belief. She supposes that they thought of each other as family, because they saw themselves as the same type of monster. She puts the journals back in place and lays down on the bed. She stares at the ceiling wondering if she was supposed to come here. Is she supposed to help them? She wouldn't even have any idea where to begin. Her thoughts fade away as the exhaustion allows her to quickly drift off. She awakens four hours later finding that no one disturbed her. She gets up knowing that she should get going. She'll just let Napstablook she's heading out.
He is a pretty nice person after all. He might even end up where they'll see each other again.
Though there's no way Frisk will be able to tell for sure. She heads over and knocks on the door.
"Come in... If you want to..." His voice calls out after a few moments.
Frisk opens the door heading inside. She offers a smile to Napstablook as he turns to her. "I wanted to give this back to you." She shows the key. "It's okay. I want you to still be able to go in there if you want. Thank you so much for letting me rest."
Napstablook nods and gently takes the key. "If you want... You can always come back... I won't force you though..."
"Thank you. I'll keep it in mind. Maybe we'll see each other again." Frisk doesn't want to hurt his feelings though she plans to get out. She also has no idea if she'll run into the other further along.
"Maybe..." Napstablook agrees so Frisk heads off on her way.
Frisk brings her camera up and scans the area as she walks. She spots a doorframe missing the door. She hears noise from inside. So she pokes her head in to make sure it won't be a sneak attack. She spots an older gentleman with a fake fabric turtleshell on his body.
He is looking over a pair of glasses. "Ah that sweet daughter of mine said she might visit today." He hums to himself. "I'm glad I never had to tell her that she's adopted. She always knew yet still loves me." His shaky voice speaks to no one. He puts the glasses down showing cloudy lenses.
Frisk starts to move away and accidentally kicks a small rock.
The older man turns to her. "Ah. Welcome youngin." He greets showing he has one eyes almost closed. "Ya here to buy something?"
"Um. Sorry no. I just wanted to see what was noisy in here." Frisk admits and the man nods.
"I see. Well the name is Gerson. Feel free to come by to shop anytime you want." The older man tells her and Frisks nods to be polite.
"Thank you." Frisk leaves continuing on her way. She won't harm someone just to get to Undyne. She would never forgive herself for doing so. She ignores the box nearby. She pauses with a groan at a big bin of water in the way. She can see that they made the bin by stapling the sides of the white plastic sheet to the wall. She takes off her shoes and makes sure her pant legs are up past her knees. She begins to wade across shivering at the cold water.
At least it's clear and odorless showing that it should be okay.
Frisk makes it to the other side and tries to shake the water off her legs one at a time. She puts her outfit back in order before she presses onward. She spots a boy with plush green padding trying to be jello. She approaches only for the boy to stand up with a slight gurgle sound. She sees him wiggle as if he is jello. "I won't eat you." She tries. "Just let me pass." She keeps her distance and the boy seems to appreciate it as he then leaves. She sighs in relief and enters the room finding stairs leading to the next level. She's glad they lead downwards. She can even see it curl, so she'd be going past areas she's seen just they'll be above. She wonders just how big this place is. She knew it was large but this feels like it goes on forever.
"Temmie like. Cute!"
Frisk turns as she jumps, only to see a small child in a dog costume crouching to the right of the stairs. "Oh. Hi Temmie." She greets guessing the other goes by that name. She takes a step back when the other moves forward. "Sorry. I'm allergic to dogs." She lies and Temmie looks disappointed though understands.
"Tem village. Get Temmie flakes." Temmie tells her before hurrying down the stairs. Disappearing into the hallway below where Frisk is.
Frisk heads down too. As she enters the hall she sees a group of kids in the same dog costumes. She sees a cardboard cut out painted like a statue, showing what must be what these kids think they look like, childish drawings of a similar figure doing different things are on the wall, and there's a box by one wall. She goes along past those dressed up as a few speak to her.
"Hi! I'm Temmie!" One greets her so she nods.
"I'm Bob." A teen with a deep voice greets huddled to make himself look smaller.
"Visit Tem shop." One of the kids mentions pointing to a room with a kid designed sign above. "Temmie flakes good."
Hoping to get by Frisk heads into the shop to satisfy the Temmie telling her this.
"Hello! Welcome to Tem shop! All purchase goes to Tem going to college." The Temmie in the shop explains so Frisk looks around.
There's frosted flakes boxes, some random nicknacks, and the cardboard 'desk' the Temmie is sitting behind.
"Thank you." Frisk leaves hearing a 'Come again!' As she does so. She sighs then heads on her way. She spots a boy in a blue mushroom suit. She pauses as he begins wiggling in place chanting Mushroom dance. She lets him finish then heads off. She can't wait to get back to sane people. As she makes her way further in she stops and turns to see Undyne not far behind her. She takes a step back as Undyne takes a step forward.
Suddenly MK jumps out from one of the rooms. "Hey! There you are!" He pauses as he glances between Undyne and Frisk. He settles on Frisk with a big grin on his face. "Whoa! You're so lucky! You get a to face meeting with Undyne! That's so cool!"
Before Frisk can respond Undyne grabs MK by the ear and takes him away as he follows.
"Wait! What's going on?" MK questions then as they continue away Frisk hears a few words. "You're not gonna tell my parents are you?"
Frisk turns and heads away deciding to try to get as far away as possible. She picks up a piece of paper she finds resting on the ground. She reads it in a whisper to herself. "There are stories of a prophecy of an angel who will come from the surface. The prophecy varies as some say the angel will come to free us. Others say that the angel is an angel of death who will come to kill us. I guess only time will tell." She places it back on the floor wondering if a part of them had thoughts that police would show up. She supposes that these thoughts could have been morphed by their mental state. So she thinks that they see whoever is gonna come to decide their future fate is an angel. She continues forward knowing that once she gets out of here she will be notifying the authorities. She fears what they might do if they break free if she keeps her silence. She'll just have to report it so hopefully they'll receive the real help that they need.
Though there is a chance that instead they'll be observed like wild animals. Maybe even tested on.
Frisk momentarily bites her bottom lip as she goes over the possibilities. She still thinks that getting them help is the best answer... Even though they might become studied on instead. She is admittedly rather afraid of them escaping this place. She can only imagine them running free causing chaos, and maybe even death as not all of them seem to be friendly. Her thoughts go to the one calling himself Flowey. She knows he's a prime example, along with Undyne who seems to be hunting her down. She can only imagine what people who are so far gone would do if they were just set free. She pauses as she comes across a spot that she's glad she didn't run right into. She is at a spot where the floor broken on one side going down into darkness. She carefully makes her way across the side that is still intact. She pauses at the end as a familiar voice speaks up.
"Hey! Wait!"
Frisk turns around to see MK hurrying towards her smiling. She gasps as he suddenly trips and falls off the edge. He tries to hold his body folded over the side. "Help me!" He cries to Frisk who is about to do so when another figure appears.
There on the side MK had come from stood Undyne.
MK being between her and Undyne.
Frisk knows she has a difficult choice to make. She could either save MK at the risk of being hurt by Undyne, or leave MK and try to escape Undyne. She knows the second option would leaver her to hope that Undyne rescues MK as a distraction. She makes a choice feeling in her heart that it is correct. She has to risk it. She rushes towards MK as he begins to slip. She falls to her knees by the edge. She manages to grab onto MKs clothes before he falls. She sees Undyne standing there possibly in shock. She ignores it and pulls MK up to safety. She may want to get out of here but she'd be overwhelmed with guilt if she left MKs fate to chance. She does have her morals of course.
MK gets to his feet as does Frisk. He blinks at her almost as if he hadn't fully expected her help. He then turns and moves a little closer to Undyne. "You may be m-my hero... But I-I can't let you hurt my friend!"
Undyne takes a step back then a few more. Finally she turns around and leaves back the way she came.
MK hunches over in a huge sigh of relief. He looks to Frisk with a shaky smile as he gets closer to her before stopping. "T-Thanks for saving me. I-I was told you're a human. T-That I should stay away." He shifts his feet. "Are you a human?"
"Yes." Frisk hopes that this conversation will soon be over with if she's honest.
"Well. Even though you're a human, you're pretty cool in my books. Though I probably should go back. My parents are probably worried about me. Since I've been gone so long. Thanks again. I'll always remember you as my friend." With that MK turns around and heads off. He trips by the spot Frisk saved him though this time he manages to not fall off the edge. He gets up giving an assuring smile that he is okay. He turns away again and continues off in the same direction Undyne went.
Frisk feels good about what she had done and turns away continuing on her quest. She finds that her good mood has added a bounce to her step. She decides to take this so far peaceful time to document her surroundings. She pauses as her camera spots a figure up ahead. She realizes that it is Undyne standing on a large boulder; that looks to be probably dragged inside to that spot.
Undyne just stands there as though waiting for Frisk to approach.
Frisk glances around herself only to find there's only two ways to go. She could go back the way she came, or she could try to make it past Undyne. As much as she doesn't want to go for the path behind the crazy and violent person, she knows that there is no other choice. She takes a deep breath, putting her camera away, before moving closer to Undyne. She finds no attacks despite being alert for them. She pauses with a gap between her and the boulder. She looks to the other still alert for attacks.
"Seven... Seven souls... We need seven souls to break the barrier." Undyne speaks with a loud and clear voice. She sounds so serious right now. She removes her 'helmet' revealing her face. She has red hair tied back into a ponytail, a black eyepatch over one eye, and her teeth are rather yellow. Her skin is covered in what looks to be blue paint or face paint too. "The king has six souls and if I get your soul then we'll have seven. We can break the barrier and get free. The king requested humans be brought to him. But I won't let him have to deal with having to kill you. So to take that off of his shoulders I'll kill you instead. Then take your soul to him. So he can absorb it to be powerful enough to break the barrier. After all monsters want to be free on the surface. It is their wish. So it is my duty to grant that wish." She leaps to be in front of Frisk who knows that its battle time now.
Frisk tenses ready.
Undyne stabs her makeshift spear towards her.
Frisk leaps back causing the weapon to barely miss her. She sees Undyne change her stance then swing the weapon at her. "We don't have to fight." She tries to plead though unlike Toriel she doesn't think she can calm Undyne down.
"Then stop dodging and just let me kill you." Undyne spins swinging the weapon she holds at Frisk.
Frisk runs away from the weapon and attempts to run past Undyne. She manages to slip past her hearing the weapon swish behind her. She just barely dodged the attack. She goes through the open doorway past the rock Undyne had stood on. She goes through a dark room heading for the open doorway letting some light in. She keeps running hearing Undynes chasing footsteps behind her. She goes through the doorway finding another hall. She sees that all the room doors are closed and boarded up; planks of wood nailed to the door frames so she can't easily get in. She briefly notices that the doors spell out something. She keeps going straight towards yet another door at the other end. She does glance to the doors reading them as she passes.
Undyne continues to relentlessly chase her.
As Frisk approaches towards one of the doors it creaks open. She spots someone looking through the crack they made. She passes by the door praying that it isn't a trap. She passes by the door only to hear mouth made ringing sounds. She instantly recognizes it to be Papyrus. She glances back to Undyne to try to tell him not now. She sees Undyne pause for a moment to watch her, as if waiting to see if she'll answer the phone. She turns away taking this opportunity to keep running. She hears Undyne pick up the chase again after a brief moment. She also hears that Papyrus has stopped making the ringing sounds. She realizes that the writing on the doors she's heading for spell Hotlands. She figures it must be the next area of this imaginary underground. She makes it through the door finding the scenery changes.
There floor seems to be painted to be some kind of dark brown stone, stone that Frisk swears is almost coal like, the walls painted red like magma, and there isn't a lot to look at for decorations.
Frisk sees Sans sleeping at a make shift sentry station made from a box, two pieces of wood, and cardboard roof strangely with surprisingly clean white pillows on it. She doesn't think about it as she keeps going. "Wake up!" She pleads to Sans as she passes by him. She groans as he doesn't wake up to help, or if he did he didn't show it. She hears Undyne stop briefly and glances back. She wants to know if she should be worried. She sees Undyne look to Sans then turns away with an angry growl. She turns to look back to where she is going just as Undyne gives chase once more. She goes through yet another doorway. She hears Undyne slow after going through the door. She is breathing heavily as is Undyne.
"Armor... Too hot..." Undyne pants causing Frisk to glance back to her. She seems to be sweating pretty hard which isn't surprising to Frisk.
Frisk is also sweaty. She slows as Undyne does. She stops completely when Undyne collapses to the ground.
Undyne is now laying on her stomach her eyes closed.
Frisk takes this moment to glance around. She can see that she'll have to turn onto stairs to continue. She also spots an older looking white water cooler with cups, and a door laying by the entrance to the stairs that reads employees only. She shakes her head wondering what she's doing. She turns to head off again however a nagging voice within stops her. She turns back to Undyne who hasn't gotten up or moved away. She should leave and not risk helping the other... She could also take the risk and possibly end this chasing. She might not have to worry about Undyne again if she helps her. She sighs to herself then gets a cup of water. She kneels by Undynes head and pours the water on her face. She tries to angle it to get as much as she can in the others mouth. She drops the cup as Undyne twitches when the cup becomes empty.
Undyne twitches again then gets up to her feet. She stares in disbelief at Frisk who hurriedly gets to her own feet. She takes two steps back still staring at the other. She finally turns and runs off back the way she came.
"Please don't chase me anymore!" Frisk pleads hurrying through the door to make sure Undyne hears. She watches as Undyne slams a hand on the cardboard waking Sans up.
After getting the other awake Undyne continues to leave.
Frisk approaches Sans who turns to look to her.
"Hey kiddo." Sans greets with a smile. "Welcome to my hotdog stand. Want a hotdog? For you it's on the house."
"Sure." Frisk wonders if Sans is selling real food... She tries to figure out if it's possible that he somehow poisoned it even if it's by accident.
"Here ya go. One hot dog." Sans hands her a plastic bun with a styrofoam piece painted like a cattail plant.
"Thank." Frisk takes it and puts it in her pocket.
"Want another?" Sans inquires and curiosity strikes Frisk. Surely he couldn't have more of these... Could he?
"Okay. You're so nice." Frisk agrees ready to see what Sans ends up giving her.
"Hm. Seems like you don't have room in your inventory. I guess I'll put it on your head instead." Sans shifts and puts a red long block on Frisks head. He practically has to climb over the sentry station to put it there. "There we go." He settles back down onto what Frisk believes is a wood stool for his chair. He could also be sitting on just a chair with the back rest area taken off.
Frisk giggles a little and pulls out her camera to record this. "Can I have another hot dog?" She inquires to Sans who smiles and agrees. She films him putting another block on her head on top of the other one. She finds the whole thing absolutely hilarious and a little adorable. "How many do you got?" She inquires wondering how far Sans would let this go on.
"A lot. Though I say we stop at forty nine. Forty nine is fine. Fifty seems a bit much." Sans informs her casually while still smiling. He seems ready to possibly grab another block for her.
Frisk decides a few more can't hurt. She won't go to forty nine though. "Let's do some more." She agrees and lets Sans put some more blocks on her head. She giggles finding some joy such a dark and insane place. She wonders if this was how the delusions spread.
If they were seeking escape from their reality that they didn't like. That they fell deeper into these delusions as they had mental issues already.
Frisk lets herself enjoy the fun of this moment, though she makes sure to not take it too far in her head. She doesn't want to become like them. She needs to cling to reality if she's going to have a chance to make it out. She walks with a decent number of blocks on her head. She gets a few steps before most fall off of her head onto the floor.
"Heh. Good try kiddo." Sans chuckles at this as does Frisk.
Frisk removes the blocks off of her head. "Thank you for that Sans. But I should get going."
"Don't let a lazy bones like me hold you back then. Come again." Sans tells her and Frisk heads off further.
Frisk feels a mood boost now and more ready to face whatever is to come next. She heads down the stairs past the employees only door. She makes it to a lower level seeing that this place is also made to look like Hotlands. "So they even got this place. Well I suppose I shouldn't be surprised." She mummers to herself and continues down the hall. She looks for any signs of any way out. She can see at about the middle of the hall is a painted, possibly cardboard, wall reading Labs with a brown door seemingly blocking the way through. She checks out some other doors first. She spots an open door leading to a room with some scattered papers and filing cabinets opened. She heads inside and crouches picking up one of the papers to read it. "The doors have been heavily locked. We can't let them escape. We've seen the death they've caused to the staff. One of our security guards is locked in the most secure security rooms. Hopefully to prevent these maniacs from escaping and killing who knows how many. That security room may be our last chance to stop them from escaping this place. They're outside the door and I don't know how much longer I can keep them at bay." She blinks realizing that this is a clue. "I might be able to get out if I can get into that security room." She pauses realizing that's easier said than done.
If those who have been here for a long time, long enough to completely change this place to their delusions, haven't gotten out to be free what chance does she have?
Frisk partially wonders if they don't want to escape. She isn't even sure if they have tried to get to that security room to get out... If they know that it might allow them to get out of here. She glances to the window that is blocked by outside bars. She can't remember many other windows, so she supposes that they must all be blocked in at least most of the places. She tucks the paper into her bags and heads out of the room. She heads towards the labs and attempts to knock on the door. She blinks as her hand pushes on a blanket that must have been hung to act as a door. She pushes through the blanket and into the dark area, with only a computer lighting up any area. She walks over to it and sees some security cameras on the screen. She's been to the areas that are being shown. She is about to see if she can check any others when she hears a door open.
Suddenly the lights turn on lighting up the hallway. The hallway has a grey painted floor and white painted walls. There's a few doors but most are closed, at the end of the hall the door is also closed. There is a desk with litter around it, some tools laying around here and there, and also a large bag filled with what looks like brown circle pellets like dog food.
By the other end of the hall is a short cubby looking woman, who is facing forward after coming out from a door. She has on a white lab coat that looks surprisingly clean, no shoes or socks, a yellow cardboard lizard tail, and a pair of round glasses on her face. She hunches over showing not much confidence. "Okay. W-Well that is done. I w-wonder what the h-human is up to." She stutters to herself. She turns only to gasp in shock when she spots Frisk staring back at her. "H-H-Human!" She hurries over in a waddle then stops with a gap between them. "You've m-made it here a-already? Oh dear. I-I wasn't quite r-ready." She smiles shyly. "But it c-cant be h-helped."
"Hello. What is your name?" Frisk greets offering a friendly smile.
"O-Oh. My name i-is Alphys. It's u-um nice to m-meet you." Alphys gives a small shy wave to Frisk. "U-Um I guess you w-want to get t-to the s-surface."
Frisk nods in hope that Alphys can get her there. She wants out of here.
"I-I can help u-um guide you for a-a little bit a-at least. D-Do you have a-a phone?"
Frisk doesn't really know what to show Alphys. No way would she show her an actual cellphone, which is still dead since she can't charge it, let alone if Alphys would even see it as an actual cellphone.
"Y-You don't? Well h-hold on." Alphys hurries away as Frisk blinks curiously. She makes it out of sight from Frisk. She can be heard making some banging and drilling sounds elsewhere.
Frisk wonders just what Alphys would come back with.
The noises stop and Alphys hurries back over to her.
"H-Here. This will d-do much b-better." Alphys offers Frisk a plastic toy flip phone painted grey with black number buttons, some extra buttons glued on it in seemingly random spots, a pink fuzzy pipe cleaner is threaded through a phone charm slot or it could be a place to add a wrist strap, and a small toy laser attached to the pipe cleaner "I-It's all updated and r-ready to go. I added s-some worthwhile features I-I think you'll like."
"Thanks." Frisk puts it in her pocket not wanting to be rude.
"O-Oh silly me. I-I forgot something." Alphys says causing Frisk to start reaching for the fake phone. Her next words stop Frisk who realizes she doesn't mean the fake phone. "I built a-a robot. H-He was meant t-to entertain. B-but when I tried t-to upgrade him... W-Well he k-kind of turned into a-a human h-hunting crazy bot. And h-hes on the loose. S-So you might want t-to be careful."
Suddenly a voice speaking through a megaphone can be heard coming from the wall. "Did someone say robot?" In sounds deep and rather manly.
"O-Oh no." Alphys blinks worriedly.
Suddenly a door hidden by a paper that looked like the wall swings open. Allowing a man to jump out between Frisk and Alphys.
This man is wearing a box painted grey, clothing buttons glued on using red and yellow, his left leg has a grey tube around it with a black shoe, his other leg is tied up so he's standing on one leg, he has the same grey tubes on his arms, white gloves on his hands and a microphone in one hand. "Why hello there ladies!" He turns to Frisk who thinks she notices a small rectangle allowing him to see. "Oh dear Alphys. Why didn't you tell me that the underground's special guest had arrived?"
"U-Um listen Mettaton-" Alphys begins however it seems like Mettaton isn't interested in listening.
"Let us begin my show! You make it through and maybe I'll let you live! I may want to take your soul, however darling I am a star for those underground! So let's do this my way." Mettaton pulls a string to which a simple video camera hooked to a wooden rolling stand comes out.
The camera doesn't even seem to be powered on.
Alphys tries to signal to Frisk that she'll help while standing beside Mettaton.
"Ladies and gentlemen! Let the quiz show begin!" Mettaton announces letting go of the rope to wave his arm out dramatically. "And what is your name?" He holds out the mic for Frisk though Frisk isn't sure it works.
"Frisk." Frisk mentions then Mettaton pulls the mic back to himself.
"Welcome Frisk! So let us begin with our quiz show! You hav fifteen seconds to answer each question. You get it wrong and you'll get a little punishment." Mettaton keeps his right arm moving dramatically for a few moments then settles down. His left hand holding the mic steady. "First question! What's the prize for answering correctly? A, Money? B, Mercy? C, New Car? Or D, More questions?" He holds the mic out and waits for Frisk to answer.
Frisk notices that Alphys makes a sign with her hands showing a D. She tries to not look directly at Alphys worried about what Mettaton might do. "D."
"Lets see if she's right." Mettaton waits then makes a dinging sound with his mouth. "That is correct!" He announces. "That was a good warm up question! Lets see if she can keep this up folks!" He mentions as if he actually has anyone watching like it's some live show. "Second question! Lets see how much you know of us monsters! What's the king's full name? A, Lord Fluffybuns? B, Fuzzy Pushover? C, Asgore Dreemurr? Or D, Dr. Friendship?" He once again waits for Frisk to answer.
Frisk notices Alphys showing a C with her hands this time. "C."
"Let us see if you are correct?" Mettaton pauses before once more making the dinging sound with his mouth. "Correct! Two in a row not bad human! But the questions only get harder from here my dear!" He declares and Frisk is just relieved Alphys is helping her. "Third question! What are robots made out of? A, Hopes & Dreams? B, Metal & Magic? C, Snips & Snails? D, Sugar & Spice?" He waits for her to answer.
Alphys shows Frisk a B with her hands.
"B." Frisk tells Mettaton.
"Is she correct?" Mettaton pauses then makes the dinging sound once more. "She is! You're truly on a roll! Gonna go for all correct answers? Lets see if you can manage to nail it!" He tries to keep up the suspense for the supposed audience. "Fourth question! Two trains, Train A, and Train B, simultaneously depart Station A and Station B. Station A, and Station B are 252.5 miles apart from each other. Train A is moving at 124.7mph towards Station B, and Train B is moving at 253.5mph towards Station A. If both trains departed at 10:00 AM and it is now 10:08, how much longer until both trains pass each other? A, 31.054 minutes? B, 16.232 minutes? C, 32.049 minutes? Or D, 32.058 minutes?" He waits to see if Frisk will answer.
Frisk for a moment feels some panic shoot through her. She is not at all good at math, especially math like this. She reminds herself that Alphys is helping. She looks for the answer and sees a D is being shown to her. "D?" She questions wondering if a mentally ill person could actually get it right. She tries to calm herself down as Alphys and Mettaton seems close, so surely Alphys must know right?
"Well folks! Did she get it right?" Mettaton does his pause before making the dinging sound. "Correct once more! Can the human keep this up? Oh! The tension is rising!" He shifts as if in excitement over this, not knowing that Alphys is helping or is acting completely oblivious. "Fifth question!" He goes into the room he came from and returns with a piece of cardboard. He holds it up showing a white paper glued to it, with a black marker made drawing of flies in a jar. "How many flies are in this jar? Is it A, 54? B, 53? C, 55? D, 52?" He waits for Frisks answer.
Frisk doubts she has time to try to count the flies only to glance to Alphys. She spots Alphys showing her an A. She focuses on Mettaton. "A."
"Can she do it? Can she get another question correct?" Mettaton takes the pause before making a dinging sound. "Incredible! Another correct answer! We're making history my darling viewers!" He tosses the picture aside before hurrying to grab another one. "Question number six! What monster is this?" He shows a drawing of what looks to be half of the frog child's face. "Is it A, Froggit? B, Whimsun? C, Moldsmal? Or is it D, Mettaton?"
Frisk is about to answer A as she feels like that is the name that frog child is called. She pauses as she notices Alphys showing her the answer is D. She wonders if the other wants her to get some kind of punishment. She reminds herself though that Alphys has not steered her wrong yet. She might need to put a little faith in her. Besides she hardly has time to deeply think it over. "You seem like you're trying to trip me up. I'll say D." She is going to put her trust in Alphys, and supposes it'd be nice for Alphys if she pretended she wasn't being given answers.
"Can this clever human reach six right answers in a row?" Mettaton questions. "Well let's see if she is correct." He flips to another picture that was attached to the back of the cardboard. He is now showing him drawn wearing a shirt with the presumably Froggits face. He makes the dinging sound as Frisk breathes a sigh of relief. "Fantastic! Truly spectacular darling! You know how to keep the audience on the edge of their seats don't you?" He tosses the picture away. "Lets see how well you do on your next question. Question seven! Would you smooch a ghost? A, Heck Yeah! B, Heck Yeah! C, Heck Yeah! Or D, Heck Yeah!"
Frisk blinks at Mettaton with a 'really?' expression. She giggles softly at seeing Alphys giving the man the same look. She supposes any answer will do for this one. "A." She smiles a little as she finds amusement in this. She picked A as she feels like it's the one that got the least right answers.
"Very honest darling! And is it correct?" Mettaton does his pause before making the dinging sound. "Indeed it is! But don't get too comfortable. I have a question that'll really throw you for a loop! You'd have to be truly lucky to get it! How many letters in the name Mettaton? A, 11? B, 6? C, 8? Or D, 10? Remember it's Mettatonnnnnnnnn..." He continues to make continuous N sounds.
Frisk supposes in his head the numbers change to account of every N he adds. She gets the signal from Alphys who has refocused. She sees the her making a C. "C?" She inquires causing Mettaton to stop all the Ns.
"Did she get it right? Lets see if she has managed it!" Mettaton takes a pause before delivering the singing sound. "Could it be? A first timer on this show who has a perfect score? I still have a few more questions!"
Frisk wants to groan as she wants to be able to move on already.
"In the dating simulation video game "Mew Mew Kissy Cutie" what is Mew Mew's favorite food?" Mettaton hardly finishes getting the words out when Alphys speaks up.
"Oh! I-I know this o-one!" Alphys waves her hands in excitement, and her eyes are shining as her face brightens. "It w-was revealed in t-the..." She starts to go off on a whole chat about it as Frisk and Mettaton stare at her.
Frisk has already lost track of what Alphys is going on about. She swears the other talks too fast when excited.
"And t-then the..." Alphys slows to a pause as though finally realizing that they're staring. She blushes and ducks her head in embarrassment. She hardly makes a sound.
"Alphys darling. You aren't supposed to answer for the human." Mettaton lightly scolds almost sounding more teasing than angry. "I hope you haven't been giving our special guest the answers all this time. It'd really kill the fun and suspense out of it." He seems to scan Alphys as if getting the answer by reading her body language.
Frisk thinks about lying however as she looks at Alphys she knows there's no point.
Alphys seems to be almost shrinking under Mettatons gaze. She can't even bring herself to look at him.
Mettaton moves away. "Well if you Alphys wish to spoil the right answers, then perhaps it's time that we get to one more important question." He turns his attention back to Frisk who swears he is smirking. "Who does Dr. Alphys have a crush on? Is it A, Undyne? B, Asgore? C, The Human? Or perhaps D, Don't know?" He waits this time seeming more patient.
Frisk keeps an eye on Alphys though not sure if she'd get the real answer.
The other might be too embarrassed as can be seen by her blushing hard, while covering her face.
Frisk observes how Alphys reacted to each option said out loud. She notices Alphys give a small squeak at the mention of Undyne, but not the other ones. "I am going to guess A." She tells Mettaton.
"Yes indeed. She even writes fanfics about the two of them living a domestic life together!" Mettaton announces making Frisk feel bad for an even more embarrassed Alphys. "Well folks we shall wrap this up as our show has come to an end. There is no more dramatic tension if dear Alphys will help Frisk cheat! Thank you all so much for tuning in!" He then glances to the two. "This was only the pilot episode! There is more to come. Much more. I'll get you yet human!" He takes off going through the door at the end of the hall. He is taking the camera and microphone with him.
Alphys and Frisk sigh softly both glad that the first part has ended.
Frisk isn't sure Mettaton is as big of a threat as Alphys had originally thought.
Mettaton could have attacked or tried to sneakily kill her. He was too wrapped up in the game show to even care to sneak attack. He doesn't give off the vibe of being a true danger.
"U-Um." Alphys shifts her feet with her face still red, and her eyes cast downwards from the embarrassment. "I-Ill go do s-some very important work. I-I added myself to y-your phone so w-we can chat." She hurries away going into the door she first came from. She closes the door behind herself.
Frisk moves further in wondering what is here in the 'lab' that could be helpful. She just wants out of this place. She wonders if anyone she cares about filed a missing person's case for her yet or not.
