Chapter twelve:

Before Frisk can move one of the tridents edge spikes hit her in the shoulder. She stumbles back hitting her back against a wall from the impact. She isn't sure if Asgore didn't aim it properly on accident to fully hit her, or if he did it on purpose.

Chara comes rushing over and pulls out the trident looking rather worried. She applies pressure to the wound to which Frisk winces a little at the sharp sting of the wound. "It'll be okay. You'll be okay." She tries to comfort Frisk during this. She swiftly kicks the trident away from Floweys grasp.

Flowey had started to try to drag himself towards the trident. No doubt he had some kind of evil in mind.

Frisk slightly wonders if perhaps Flowey had noticed their plan and was trying to make it fail. She wouldn't put it past him to try to sabotage p for them.

Flowey has seemed to make things clear. He wants either Frisk to die or for Asgore to be killed by Frisk to escape. He turns and starts to head for the souls again dragging himself away.

There isn't time to try to stop him this time.

The two, Frisk and Chara, turn hearing footsteps only to see Asgore heading for them. They wait slightly holding their breaths as he doesn't seem to see the box on the floor. They notice he's focused on getting back the trident that is on the floor.

Asgore trips over the box and as he falls his arms shoot out. He seems to have done this more out of instinct to try to catch himself.

Frisk and Chara press themselves against the wall to avoid being hit by his hands.

"Come on!" Frisk tells Chara as they make a mad dash for the door.

They can hear Asgore grabbing his trident behind them and start to get up. Their adrenaline that kicks in, helped by knowing Asgore could throw the trident at Frisks back at any moment, as they try to focus on reaching the door to get out.

Frisk has some small rocks thrown at her head which she guesses is by Flowey. She supposes he must have noticed her trying to flee so he's ' sending magical attacks' to try to stop her. Her adrenaline pumping through her veins helps dull the sting of the rocks. She also doesn't feel her wounds as badly as before. She has a feeling she will really feel it when the adrenaline wears off.

They are almost at the door when Chara suddenly pushes Frisk to the side.

Before Frisk can ask Chara lurches forward. Her eyes widen as she realizes the other has been hit in the back with the trident. She yanks it out of Charas back, noticing from the corner of her eye Asgore is almost on his feet. She puts Charas arm around her shoulders and hurries them towards the door. She's glad that Chara's own adrenaline has helped her in being able to move better than without it.

They're almost to the door!

Frisk can hear Asgore's hurried footsteps behind them. Her heart pounds so hard she can hear it in her head as she hears Asgore picking up the trident.

Can they actually make it in time?

Frisk desperately hopes that they can. She keeps them moving and begins reaching for the doorknob with her free hand. She manages to grab the doorknob. She yanks the door open hurrying out with Chara. She feels the rush of the fresh outside air hit the two of them which feels so nice. She finds some rocks fly past her head. She also hears Asgore mention that she must have taken a soul from another monster. She guesses that it'll keep him busy trying to find anyone who might be dead. She knows that he won't find anything unless someone died by other causes. "We're going to get you and help." She promises to Chara who turns to Frisk looking a little sad.

"Frisk. Just in case I don't make it. Please promise me that you won't give up until they get the help they need."

"I'll promise to ease your mind. And I mean that I genuinely promise. But you're going to live. We'll be able to get help soon." Frisk turns to look ahead worried Chara might be starting to draw closer to passing out. She doesn't doubt that the other has lost a good amount of blood.

Plus they're away from the danger so the adrenaline will be subsiding.

Suddenly the bright lights of cars pulling up causes Frisk and Chara to pause.

Frisk uses her free hand to shield her eyes against the lights glare. She lowers her hand when the lights are turned off. Blinks a few times to try to help her eyes adjust. She sees a group rushing out of the cars towards her. She gasps at realizing they are officers and her parents.

Frisks mother has light brown hair that falls around her shoulders and hazel eyes.

Frisks father has shorter darker brown hair and tan brown eyes.

The two parents stop in shock at seeing Frisk and Chara.

While the police officers rush over, and one takes Chara from Frisk scooping her into his arms.

The officer starts to hurry Chara towards one of the police cars.

Frisk follows quickly after him even as her parents rush towards her. "Her name is Chara!" She tells the officers and is stopped by her parents hugging her sobbing. She notices the officers all give pause and glance to her.

"The missing girl?" The officer who is carrying Chara gasps, then when Chara groans in pain he returns to hurrying her to his car.

"We were so worried about you!" Frisks mother sobs as she clings to her daughter. "We didn't know where you had gone until your friends admitted that they had you go here."

"I am sorry." Frisk apologizes. "When I came here I didn't know what I was really getting myself into." She admits as her parents look her over seeing her wounds.

"Can I talk with you about what you did find in there?" A police officer inquires approaching them as the family separate the hug.

Frisk nods her head. "Well. Turns out there is people in there. They used a garden and food storage to keep themselves alive. They're not bad people. They're just mentally troubled because of events that I can only describe as human experiments. At least from what I read in the documents I can find. They'll fight back if they have to mainly to defend their home. But they're just victims of circumstances. They have delusions due to what horrible people did. They see themselves as monsters and this place as the underground where they've been trapped by humans. That they needed seven human souls to break free to the surface. Please. I beg of you. Don't let them fall back into a life of experiments. Get them the help they need to get better."

"Oh my poor baby!" Frisks mother cries out holding her daughter as close as she can.

"I'll be okay mom." Frisk tries to assure her mother. She turns back to the cop.

"Don't worry. I'll pass along the message. And if what you say is correct about them having been experimented on then I am sure it'll all be okay. They'll get the help they'll need."

Frisk relaxes at hearing this. "Thank you. And be careful. In their delusions they may attack. But like I said they are mentally unwell and protecting their home."

"Thank you so much. You're really brave." The officer offers Frisk a smile.

Frisk turns seeing the officer who took Chara is about to leave. "Wait!" She calls to him and he turns. "I wanna come too! I wanna go with Chara!" She then glances to the other officer she was speaking to. "I'm going to trust you with making sure that they do get help. I made a promise to Chara that they will."

"I will do everything in my power." The officer tells her then her mother takes her to the family car.

"We'll follow the officer." Frisk's mother informs her. "You can get looked at and be in the same place as your new friend." She promises to which she lets Frisk have the front passenger seat.

Frisk places her bag at her feet by placing it carefully to not damage what's inside. She turns to the building she had escaped from as her parents get in with her mother driving. Her eyes flickering for a moment to the officers that have grouped together. She guesses that they must be planning how to approach the situation inside of the building. She just hopes that the officer will keep his promise to her. She turns away as they get further and further away from the building. She leans back in her seat and lets out an exhausted sigh. Her eyes attempting to close though she tries to fight it. She's safe now.

It's finally over... As long as those in that building get the help they need...

Frisk closes her eyes as she's unable to fight it anymore. She starts to fall unconscious when she hears her mothers worried tone. "I'm just tired. I'll be okay after a nap." She assures her mother in a slight mumble before she falls asleep. She finds herself in a dream of her facing Asgore once more. She sees his trident flying towards her and she falls backwards into darkness as it hits her. She feels like shes falling forever and she can't move her body at all. She then wakes up with a gasp finding herself in a hospital bed with a doctor beside her.

"Good to see you awake. Just stay still for a moment." The doctor tells Frisk who does as instructed. He finishes bandaging one of her wounds then turns to her. "How are you feeling?"

"Still a little tired. But I don't really want to sleep."

"You have been through a lot judging by your wounds." The doctor nods to this looking sympathetic. "I was briefly informed of what had happened."

"Where is Chara?" Frisk inquires worried about the other.

"Doctors are working on her. I haven't heard anything yet. But we'll do everything we can to save her." The doctor promises to Frisk.

"I wanna see her when the doctors are done." Frisk informs the doctor then she thinks of something. "Have you guys contacted her family? If you have please don't send her back to her abusive mother!" She sees the doctors eyes soften even more in sympathy.

"I can't really say much about that as I don't know. I can let the officer waiting for you two that her mother is abusive." The doctor offers to which Frisk nods.

"Please do. I don't want her to have to go through more of it."

"Of course. If you can try to rest a little. It'll be good for you. I'll come get you when you can see your friend." The doctor leaves with that and not long after Frisks parents rush in.

"Oh my baby!" Frisks mother wraps her arms around her daughter with a sniffle. "You scared the daylights out of me when you passed out."

"Sorry about that. I didn't have much time to really rest in that place." Frisk apologizes to her mother who sniffles again.

"It's okay. I'm just glad you're okay."

"Mom?" Frisk begins and gets a questioning hum from her mother. "Chara can't go back to her mother. Please, she's abusive. Maybe could she stay with us instead?" She sees her mother turn to her father who is standing beside his wife.

The two exchange a look then turn to look warmly to their daughter.

"Of course. If we legally can then she can stay with us." Frisks mother confirms and wipes her eyes of tears. "I'm proud of you for that. You're so strong despite everything you've been through. And we haven't even gotten all the details from you yet."

"Chara helped me a lot in that place. Not all of it but a bunch on the last stretch. She was even ready to sacrifice her not making it out so I could leave. I didn't want to leave her behind. She was the only other sane person in there." Frisk explains, and she does mean it in a sense that she's come to see Chara as a friend. She wants to help her as much as possible. "Some parts I wouldn't have made it out of there without her help. Since some parts I wouldn't have known what to do to get past the delusional people."

"I will also need to give her my thanks for assisting you through that place." Frisks mother tells her and they all turn as a knock is heard.

In the doorway is the officer who had brought Chara to the hospital.

Frisk notices that he's holding her camera. She doesn't have any doubts that he's using it, plus whatever is in her bag that's hanging from his arm, as evidence.

"May I come in?" The officer inquires to which Frisk nods. He heads over standing on the other side of Frisks mother. "I have reviewed the footage you captured plus the contents of your bag. How are you feeling about discussing some of the things that happened down there?"

"Will it help get those people the help they need? They're victims of experimentation." Frisk pleads hopeful to which the officer nods softly.

"Probably. I can't say for sure what will happen to them. But from what I've seen I doubt the legal system will believe that they don't need help. They clearly are delusional it seems."

Frisk nods her head. "I just don't want them to be experimented on again. And neither does Chara. They took her in when she escaped her abusive mother. She became invisible when in their delusions they thought she died. But she helped me so much on the last bit of my time there." She sees the officer is listening to what she has to say. She tells him from how she found her way inside to the moment of escape. She finds the explanation is rather long but it feels nice when it is all over.

"I see." The officer nods his head when Frisk finishes her story.

Frisks parents are already hugging her again after hearing everything that happened.

"Has the building been secured?" Frisk inquires to which the officer smiles softly to her.

"I haven't heard anything. I turned off my radio momentarily. I'll go outside and quickly check for you." The officer gets up and leaves the room when Frisk nods. After a few moments outside of the room he returns. "They're working on it now. I'll stay at the hospital here as I'd like to talk to Chara too. Plus I can keep you updated on how things are going."

"The evidence of the tests that were put on them should still be in there. They didn't seem to delete anything on the computers. At least as far as I could tell. But I only did what I could time wise. Just to learn about what was going on. I didn't check every single detail."

"That'll be very helpful to us. And push things further to the getting them the help they need. They'll be unlikely to be convicted of what they've done, I think they'll be in the criminal category of what courts will call insanity." The officer tells Frisk who relaxes more at hearing this.

"Thank you." Frisk lets her eyes close as she is feeling way too tired to stay awake. She dreams about being trapped in the 'underground' living among them.

The next day comes up pretty fast...

Frisk, who had slept most of the previous day, is brought to Charas room by the officer.

Frisks parents are following along.

Frisk is put in a wheelchair as the doctors want her to relax, so she doesn't push herself after her ordeal.

Chara slightly turns to Frisk seeming to be still tired herself. She is hooked up to some machines and some IVs. "Frisk." She greets with a smile and her voice sounds a little rough.

Frisk smiles back to the other. She truly is happy to see the other seems to be doing alright. "It's good to see you still alive and kicking."

Chara chuckles at this smiling a little more. "What about the others from that place?" She inquires to which they both turn to the officer.

The officer smiles to them. "Well I thought I'd save the news until now. It took quite awhile but they were able to get them out of there. They did put up a fight but we understood that they were defending the place they call home. They aren't being convicted of anything that they've done there. They've been sent to a different mental hospital. They'll be getting the help they'll need. And the FBI plus the CIA are looking through the files about what happened to them. Though the mental hospital also got copies in order to help them know how to help them. They'll either be in that mental hospital forever or they'll one day be able to live a more normal life."

Frisk and Chara relax happily at this and exchange smiles.

"We did it." Chara breathes a sigh of relief.

"We did." Frisk confirms to the other. She feels happiness and great relief. She knows that this is truly over and they can focus on healing. She feels like a weight on her shoulders have lifted and that she is free.

Charas smile falters to which she turns back to the officer with Frisk looking worried. "What happened to my birth mother? She's not here is she?"

"No." The officer tells her as he gives her a soft look. "She died a month earlier in a drunk driving crash she caused with a semi truck."

Frisk looks to Chara. She believes the woman deserved it though she is worried about Chara. She isn't sure if the other would be upset about her birth mothers death or not.

Chara tilts her head down for a moment as her gaze goes down as well. She is silent as she processes what that means for her.

Frisk can see the troubling look as the other girl isn't sure about how she'd fare in foster care. She doubts Chara has any family members she trusts if she didn't go to them, instead going to a believed to be abandoned asylum. She shifts and hugs her unexpected friend as best as she can. She wants to comfort her but isn't really sure how. She knows that Chara going into foster care could mean their end. She might never see Chara again no matter how much they stay in contact.

"Would it be possible for us to take her in?" At Frisks mothers question the two girls turn to her in surprise.

Frisks father has on a warm supporting look on his face about the idea.

Frisk's eyes flicker to the officer as her heart pounds in hope that Chara can stay.

"I do believe so." The officer tells them. "You'll have to go through family services. But I'll put in a good word. And I'm sure they won't mind going through all details here in the hospital."

Frisk can see it on the officers face that he can tell that the two girls have bonded. She turns back to Chara who will soon be her adopted sister. She leans close seeing happy tears in the others eyes. "You'll be a part of our family." She tells the other who nods with a sniffle. She and Chara are pulled into a gentle hug by Frisks parents.

One look at Chara can tell anyone how happy she is that things did work out for her.

Frisk is really happy her parents invited her to stay. She knows that the two of them will have great adventures ahead of them.

The end.

AN:

I did have another scene planned but I decided to save it for a part two of sorts. With more scenes. I don't know when or if it'll be done. We'll see how things go.

I hope you enjoyed this story!
