Assignment #2 Global Warming Task 5: Tsunamis: Write about someone feeling a 'wave' of emotion.

word count: 554

Warning: Major character death

She was Indefinable, something special, something different.

Lucius knew the moment he laid eyes on her that it would change his life.

She looked at him with innocent eyes.

She wasn't afraid, even locked away in his dungeons.

The daughter of a man who possessed great knowledge,

a man his king wished to punish.

Lucius hated his king, hated how he used and abused people.

He hadn't always thought that,

he had been his right hand until the moment the king

took Lucius' own son under his wing.

Draco was trained to fight,

sent to war to die.

Lucius wept when heard Draco had failed in his task

to assassinate a rival king.

His own king declared Draco guilty of treason,

had him beheaded in the town square.

Lucius had wept and wept,

his tears falling like rain from his eyes.

She saw him,

watched him from behind the bars of her cell.

She reached out a hand, a pale shaking hand,

took his hand in her own.

Her touch was warm,

soft,

comforting.

Lucius felt less lost for a moment.

Indefinable,

that was Luna in nutshell.

She didn't fear the king,

didn't fear that her father would fall,

would fail when questioned.

She had strength Lucius had never seen,

unwavering strength,

optimism,

and hope even in the darkest times.

She whispered stories of a freedom fighter,

of a group of brave soldiers,

a golden trio who would stand against the king,

who would defeat him and save them all.

Lucius didn't dare believe,

he couldn't,

if he did, if he allowed himself hope,

it was a dangerous thing – hope.

Hope played games with one's mind,

dangerous games,

but still, in the darkest part of his mourning heart,

hope started to grow.

Lucius would sneak down to the dungeons,

watch Luna singing softly to herself,

her head turned from him as stared out the barred window.

The stars were bright,

the sky was clear.

Trumpets sounded alerting everyone of an intruder.

Lucius rose to his feet.

Luna turned and shook her head.

Stay, her wispy voice said so softly he almost didn't hear.

It's time.

Lucius stayed there,

standing at the bars of Luna's cell as the sounds of screaming,

fighting,

swords clinging and clanking filled the once tranquil air.

The heavy door to the dungeon swung open.

A knight with a lightning bolt across his armor stood in the light.

He clunked down the stairs.

Lucius felt him staring at him,

slowly Lucius realized what he must,

what he needed,

to do.

He dropped to his knees,

his face bowed looking down at the stones.

The knight unlocked the door of Luna's cell.

Rise, he ordered Lucius.

Lucius obeyed and found himself suddenly being hugged tightly by Luna.

We are safe now.

Lucius looked to the knight who simply bowed his head.

You are free to go, Lord Malfoy.

Lucius paused,

part of him wanting to run from the castle,

from the memories of his past life,

of his son.

Rebuild with us.

He would never disobey a request from Luna,

his Luna,

his moon and saving grace.

Lucius followed the knight up the stairs,

Luna on his arm.

She would become his lady

and the knight their new king all because he'd allowed himself that sliver,

that tiny growth of hope.
