Lucius blinked as the door of the manor opened. He wasn't expecting anyone, unless Luna had invited someone over and not told him. The minute Luna stepped inside though, he thrust the screaming infant into her arms. He hadn't been expecting her until that evening, but he was thankful she was home early.

"Make it stop!" he wailed. Luna looked at her husband and then at her screaming child. Out of everything she'd expected to find when she got home, it wasn't the two of them whiny and crying loudly. She's only been gone a day and a half for Merlin's sake.

"What's wrong, Pandi, are you giving your daddy trouble today?" Luna asked, dropping the khaki colored bag she'd been carrying and starting to rock Pandora. Pandora continued to fuss loudly, gripping Luna's blond hair in her tiny fists.

"She wasn't bad yesterday, but today, I've tried everything! I changed her, fed her, changed her again, gave her that scary stuffed thing she loves-"

"Thestrals are not scary," Luna clarified without even thinking about it. Lucius ignored her and continued listing every single failed attempt he'd made at comforting Pandora. From what Luna could tell, he'd done everything right, done the most logical things. Of course, when it came to babies, logic was overrated and often thrown out the window at the first chance. Pandora was no exception.

"Alright, alright, did you try rocking her?" Luna asked, rocking back and forth on her feet slightly. Pandora continued to wail, yanking Luna's hair.

"Yes, and pacing. We walked the entire east wing, then the west wing, and then up and down the spiral stairs three times."

"Reading?" Luna asked, knowing sometimes that soothed Pandora, sometimes, Luna was sure the baby could actually understand what they were saying.

"The encyclopedia book, twelve pages, showed her the pictures," Lucius answered, noticing Luna wasn't having much luck comforting their daughter either. Pandora had wiggled around in Luna's arms and was trying to chew on the collar of Luna's shirt. Luna gently pulled it away. Pandora screamed and noticed her own hand could also fit in her mouth.

"Did you check to see if she's teething?"

"Yes, and yes, she is, she's got a sharp little bit already which she happily sank into my finger," Lucius muttered, giving Pandora a half glare. The baby stopped screaming and let out a soft giggle.

"Really? You think it's funny to bite Daddy?" he asked. Pandora wiggled in Luna's arms, reaching for Lucius.

"Looks like she's calmed down now, maybe she just wanted to hear you talking about her achievements?" Luna suggested. Lucius took Pandora back and watched as the baby snuggled against his chest, closing her big blue eyes and falling asleep.

"Or she was overtired and didn't want to nap without you being home," he countered, knowing Pandora was always looking for which ever parent wasn't in plain sight.

"Maybe, but she's asleep now, so I'm going to grab a quick shower, wash off all the dust and dirt from the day at the reserve and then, if she's still asleep," Luna said, giving Lucius a quick wink. He smiled, carrying Pandora to her crib and hoping she'd stay asleep for a few hours, or at least long enough to give Luna a proper welcome home.
