Lucius sat at the large golden harp, his deft fingers plucking the strings. Luna sighed, sitting down at the foot of the large instrument. She ran her fingers over the golden base, listening to the music filling the air.

"It is a lovely night," she commented, glancing up at the navy blue sky. A few early stars sparkled. Lucius paused his playing to look at her. He was skilled with his instrument and often attracted nymphs and fauns. This as the first time he'd managed to attract a goddess, for that was obviously what she was. Her pale hair framed her face, her eyes were closed as her fingers seemed to play invisible notes in the air. He noted her crisp white dress, the golden rope belt across her waist.

"It is," he agreed, wondering who she was and how she'd come to find him. This garden was at the very edge of his domain, a small piece of the mortal world he refused to give up.

"Do play some more, please," she requested, looking up at him with her large blue eyes. He nodded and started playing again, softly this time.

"I know who you are, his messenger and all that time where you run back and forth, and to and fro, never stopping to enjoy yourself. We're a bit alike, you and I."

"How?" Lucius asked, wondering how she could possibly know so much about him. He'd never seen her sitting at the court, never seen her attending the banquets.

"They like to keep me out of sight too, a bit of a disgrace really. Just because people think me evil, justice isn't evil, it's just. But what seems just for one... may seem a torment for another. They don't understand that."

"And you think I do?"

"I think you don't care about justice, about right or wrong. You do as your told, take the messages you are given and don't think about what it means. I'd like to do that, just once or twice maybe, not think about what something means, not weigh the consequences of actions."

"That's why you're here now, avoiding thinking?"

"I am. Your music is lovely and it doesn't mean anything, well, maybe to you, but to me, it's just a beautiful arrangement of notes and stops," she said, running her fingers over the harp strings. "Could you teach me, Lucius? Could you teach me to make music to drown out my thoughts?" she asked, rising to her feet. Her golden sandals crushing a few blades of grass as she walked over to him. He nodded, sitting her in his lap.

"I can, but it won't be easy."

"Nothing worth while ever is," she laughed, giving him a soft kiss on the cheek. "But maybe that lesson could wait for another night? It's about to rain and I think, perhaps we should seek shelter?" she suggested, looking up at the sky. The stars were gone, replaced by dark clouds. Lucius nodded, rising to his feet as Luna slid from his lap.

"Would you take shelter with me, or return to them?" she asked.

"I'd love to stay here with you, to not think about them and their messages, to get lost in something else entirely," Lucius said, his arms wrapping around Luna. He leaned forward, planting a hard kiss on her lips. She smiled, her lips curving into a mischievous smile.

"Come then, I think there's a cave over there, somewhere no one would think to look for two missing gods," she laughed, taking his hand and leading him into the night, the golden harp temporarily forgotten.
