Junior: How are you fellas?
Jade: Bad, very bad. You know this is 11pm right? People should sleep now.
Junior: (Laughs maniacally) If fanfiction doesn't acknowledge that I changed Misty vs Serena properly, then I am gonna make it.
Jade: Ok, you clearly drank too much tea or coffee.
Junior: Come to think of it, I am pretty sure it was tea in which I added coffee powder.
Jade: Kid, listen. Lie on your bed, drink some water, if you still can't sleep, do some pushups and hit the sack.
Junior: Let's get rolling.
Jade: Disclaimer: We don't own pokemon.
"Here we are." A young man with slick green hair in a 4-pointed tuft that sticks up said. He is tall and slender, donning a long sleeved white shirt under a black waistcoat, black straight leg pants, brown shoes and a green bowtie that compliments his green eyes and hair. He is currently carrying a handbag full of some eatables. This is Cilan.
In front of them stood a large building with many pillars supporting it at the front and a dome shaped roof. At the top of the building, there is an official pokemon Gym symbol.
"Yes." A young boy by the name of Ash Ketchum shouted as he barged towards the double doors and opened them.
"Lets battle" Ash said along with his starter, Pikachu, shouting equally enthusiastically in his own pokespeech.
But what they saw behind the doors baffled them. It was a restaurant, with many of its patrons looking on at Ash, thanks to his barging in.
"Hold on" Ash said as his voice lost all the enthusiasm.
"This is the striaton gym?" Iris asked from his side.
"Hi." said a voice from Ash's right, who was another young man similar to Cilan, except for his red eyes and hair shaped like a fire and a red bowtie. He also had an apron from below his waist.
"Welcome" Another young man similar to Cilan, this time with blue eyes and blue hair slicked down with a long side fringe that covers his right eye.
"Please make yourself at home." Cilan said as he placed his hands on Ash's shoulders and gently pushed him to a table.
"But" Ash protested lightly.
"Comfy?" Cilan asked as he sat Ash in a chair, with Iris sitting in the next chair.
"Are you all ready to order?" The red haired waiter asked.
"May I start off with something to drink?" Asked the blue haired waiter.
"No thanks." Ash said, which was something that is hard to hear from Ash. "I think"
"Change your mind? I highly recommend the soda pop" The blue haired waiter interrupted.
"No thanks, not thirsty." Ash said, getting worried over where he was really.
But the 2 waiters didn't get the memo as they fired off items from their menu at Ash, who was getting impatient.
Ash said angrily as he banged the table, "I just wanted to have a striaton city gym battle." He shouted.
"Gym battle?" All of the female patrons exclaimed.
"That's what I said. I think this is a good time to go." Ash said as he got up and proceeded to leave with his starter crying out in agreement.
"Just a minute." Cilan said, stopping Ash. And then the lights dimmed.
Ash turned to see Cilan and the 2 waiters walking towards the fireplace.
"Alright Ash, I will grant your request." Cilan said with his thumb and index fingers outwards, as a green limelight fell on him.
"So you are a challenger, then you will receive a welcome as pleasant and hot as noon day sun." The red haired waiter said as he pumped his right fist, in a red limelight.
"No, I think we should be cool, as a refreshing glass of water." The blue haired waiter, in a blue light as he turned around and spread his hands in jovial manner to his shoulder level and held out his palms upwards.
Behind Ash, all the female patrons started to swoon over these words, except Iris who thought they made next to none sense.
Ash too seemed to share the sentiment as he asked his starter with a complete look of confusion, "Pikachu, what are they talking about?"
"Piih-khaa" His starter too responded confused.
"This is the striaton gym." Cilan said,
"And the three of us" The red haired waiter said as he joined Cilan's left side.
"Are the triplet brothers." The blue haired waiter said, joining Cilan's right side.
"And we are the gym leaders." All three said at once.
"Three brothers and all are gym leaders?" Iris asked, confused with her Axew sharing the sentiment.
"Now it's show time." The three said as they striked their poses and the wall behind them opened to show a battle arena.
Iris went up to the rails at the side to watch the battle while Ash was looking over the battlefield.
"Now it's time for you to select your battle opponent." Cilan said.
"I am choosing?" Ash asked, confused.
"That's correct." Cilan smiled as he explained, "Me. or chili," he said pointing to the red haired waiter, "or cress" he said pointing to the blue haired one.
"You can battle any one of us and if you are victorious, you will get the badge." Cilan finished.
"Let's see our partners. Heats up." Chili said as he released his pokemon.
"Make a splash" Cress said he released his pokemon.
"Here we go, my partner." Cilan said doing the same.
Ash looked at the three pokemon in front of him. Each was a small yellow monkey with a tail and padded hands with a small thumb sticking from the side. That's where the similarities end.
"Wow, what kind of pokemon are they?"Ash asked as he pointed the pokedex at them.
"Pansear, the high temperature pokemon.
The fire within the tuft on its head can reach 600° F, which it will use to roast berries."
Pansear had a red pant over its bottom with tails and outer ear painted red along with its upper face and tuft. The tail and tuft are flame shaped.
"Panpour, the spray pokemon.
The water stored in its tuft is very nutritious. It keeps itself damp by spraying water on its head tuft from its tail."
Panpour's upper face and outer ear are blue in color, it also has a small blue collar at the base of its neck. The end of its tail is spade shaped and colored blue. Its tuft was like a cloud connected to its head with a pole, blue in color.
""Pansage, the grass monkey pokemon.
Eating a leaf from its head whisks weariness away as if by magic and is known to relieve stress. It is also good at finding berries, thriving in deep forests."
Pansage had a green pant over his lower regions, with its tail also in green and had a leaf at the end. Like Pansear the upper head of Pancham was colored in green instead of red, and the tuft looked like spinach.
"So, which one do you want to battle Ash?" Cilan asked.
Ash didn't need to think twice, "All three of you." He said.
"Huh?" All three brothers had different faces of confusion.
"You see this is my first battle in Unova and there are many new pokemon here. So, I want to battle as many as I can." Ash said, pumping his fist, with Pikachu also pumping his fist from Ash's shoulder, calling out "Pika pi" confidently.
The three brothers smiled at Ash.
"This is a very unique and interesting request." Chili said.
"Indeed. I have never met a trainer like you. What do you say?" Cilan asked.
"Well, let's change the rules that Ash will get the badge if he wins against at least two of us." Cress proposed.
The remaining brothers nodded.
"Oh yeah. I can't wait to battle you all." Ash said.
After a few seconds, Ash and Chili were on the opposite sides of the battlefield.
"First, you will battle me in a one on one. Are you ready Ash?" Chili asked.
"Yes, I am." Ash declared.
"This is an official gym battle between challenger Ash and gym leader Chili. Each side is allowed to use only one pokemon and when a pokemon on one side is unable to battle, the battle ends. So, the battle begin." Cilan declared.
"Tepig, I chose you." Ash said.
"Won't a water type like Oshawott make more sense?" Iris asked.
"Bringing a fire type pokemon against a fire type gym leader like me is truly brave. But let's see how you do when we turn up the heat." Chili said, pumping his fist.
"It was a done deal, I said I will use Tepig in my first gym battle and we will win." Ash said.
"Pansear, incinerate." Chili said.
"Dodge above and use ember." Ash ordered.
Pansear reared its head back and spat the concentrated flames at Tepig. But Tepig leapt above the flames and inhaled some of the fire at his feet. Then, he released a burst of small flames at Pansear's head from above.
The attack caused Pansear to topple forward, which Ash took advantage of.
"Use tackle, go." Ash said, fully pumped up.
"Dig." Chili said equally pumped.
Tepig shot forward but Pansear was quick as it dug below into the ground. Tepig stopped short when it couldn't find its opponent, looking all over the field.
"Tepig, get out of there quick." Ash ordered.
Just as Tepig sprinted away, Pansear came up behind. Thus Tepig lost his balance and skidded forward.
"Incinerate." Chili ordered.
Pansear shot a condensed beam of fire at Tepig, pushing the fire type even further.
"Now, follow it up with Fury swipes." Chili ordered.
"Defense curl." Ash called.
Tepig curled itself as Pansear started swiping at him.
"Tackle" Ash called.
Tepig shot forwards from its ball position at Pansear and tackled into a rock behind him.
"Now, use tail whip." Ash ordered.
"Use fire spin." Chili countered.
Tepig slapped its tail across Pansear's face, but the fire monkey caught the tail and let loose a fire vortex that surrounded Tepig. Then it proceeded to yank Tepig's tail and leave it, causing Tepig to spin with the fire spin circling him.
"Tepig, are you all right?" Ash asked.
Tepig was dizzy from the spinning but shook his head to get rid of it and shouted out its name, even when the fire spin closed in and hurt Tepig.
"End this with Incinerate." Chili ordered.
"Inhale as much as you can and use ember." Ash called.
Tepig inhaled quickly and snorted out the flames at Pansear, which resembled a small flamethrower. Pansear too short a burst of flames at Tepig.
The attacks collided equally, causing an explosion.
"Now Tepig, go use Tackle." Ash shouted as Tepig shot forward at Pansear with the fire vortex around it making a fire sphere around it. The attack caused Pansear to faint. The flames surrounding Tepig dissipated.
"Pansear is unable to battle. Ash wins the first match." Cilan declared.
"Ohh yeah. Thank you Tepig." Ash said as he hugged the fire pig.
"Hmm, he did win it. Maybe he is not so bad afterall." Iris exclaimed.
"Thanks Pansear. Now take a good rest." Chili said as he recalled his Pansear. "Your Tepig sure is impressive."
"Thanks, Tepig is persistent. Now let's keep this going." Ash said as he recalled his Tepig.
"Your next battle will be with my Ash." Cress said as he took Chili's place.
"Cress might be tough looking but I believe in you. We will win this, come on out Gible." Ash called for his Gible. The land shark stunned Cress for a second, since they are rare to find even in sinnoh.
"Wow, a Gible. What an amazing pokemon, why didn't he tell me before? Ash is really clever to use a strong pokemon like Gible, don't you think Axew?" Iris asked as her Axew cried out a conformation.
'You won, for now. But this is my challenge to you, bring back the strongest pokemons you have caught and trained, and train them harder. Because when I will defeat you, it should be at your fullest power and at least be a battle and not a sweep. And don't try raising some pokemon from here, boonies like you, they can never match up to real trainers like me.' Ash recalled Trip's words after his loss.
To be fair, Ash shouldn't have challenged a new trainer with his gible but he forgot about that in his excitement. And Trip didn't take it too well. He knew he shouldn't let Trip's words get to him,, he made 4 powerful teams of pokemon till now, if he decides he can make another too. Garchomp is a great pokemon for a pokemon trainer and Gible never said he wouldn't evolve. Moreover, Ash couldn't use him at all in sinnoh before the League.
Yet, using Gible didn't sit well with him. It was as if he was running away from Trip's challenge, it was as if he was scared Trip might catch up to him.
"Battle begin." Cilan declared bringing Ash out of his world.
"Gible, rock smash." Ash ordered.
"Panpour double team." Cress ordered.
Gible launched himself but Panpour set up faster causing Gible to go after the copies.
"Water gun." Cress ordered.
Panpour tuned and hit Gible with water gun, which made him skid a few feet back. But Gible shook his head as he looked at Cress.
"Wow, look at how strong Gible is. But that is a dragon type we are talking about." Iris said as she leaned over the railing, swooning at the sight of the cute land shark, who is strong also.
"Leer." Cress ordered.
"Dragon pulse." Ash ordered.
Panpour looked maliciously at Gible, who cutely turned its head in confusion and shot a blue ball of energy on Panpour, who was knocked several feet back from the attack. But the blue aura around him indicated lowered defenses.
"Now use Dig." Ash ordered.
"Stay alert." Cress warned.
When the ground started shaking near Panpour, Cress shouted "Now".
Panpour immediately duplicated itself into many copies, making Gible miss the moves. "Leer again. Follow up with Scratch." Cress ordered.
All the copies of Panpour looked scarily at Gible, who stood cluelessly cute. After all this was nothing to what he had already seen, but the blue aura indicated drop in defenses.
And before Ash could counter, Panpour shot forward at Gible and scratched him hard enough to knock several feet back but Gible flipped and landed on its feet, if Cress allowed it to that is.
"Water gun on its feet." Cress ordered.
Just as Gible was about to land, Panpour shot a water gun at Gible's leg causing Gible to go airborne again.
"Scratch." Cress ordered.
"Glide back into Rock smash." Ash ordered.
Gible, who was rotating on himself in the air, righted and glided from above onto incoming Panpour, with a rock smash.
Both attacks collided but Panpour was easily overpowered by Gible, flinging him to the ground. Gible slowly gilded back onto the ground and stood awaiting his trainer's orders.
"Use mud sport." Cress ordered.
Ash sighed and ordered "Dragon pulse."
Just as Gible landed, Panpour took hold of the ground and flapped it like a sheet of paper, causing mud to fall on him and create a wave of mud through the ground, towards Gible. Gible just shot his dragon pulse, which not only did tear through the wave and hit Panpour, it made Panpour faint.
"Panpour is unable to battle, the winner of the match is challenger Ash." Cilan declared.
"Thanks for the help, Gible." Ash said as he recalled his Gible.
Pikachu too caught onto his trainer's mood. Even when Gible held back his dig and draco meteor, his ace moves, this wasn't a battle as intense as before.
Iris on other hand was mad at Ash for recalling such a cute, charming, strong, brave and wonderful pokemon. What was his deal? She thought.
But then suddenly, Oshawott came out of his pokeball. Pikachu slapped himself as they forgot this is his play time before lunch, but then an idea formed in his mind.
"Oshawott, we are in a gym battle." Ash said as he shook his head. While Oshawott was not doing anything wrong, coming in the middle of Battle is not accepted.
"So, you still wanna battle me Ash? That's great to hear." Cilan said.
"Pi pikachu." Pikachus cried out as he jumped to the ground and shot a look down at Oshawott before turning ahead. Oshawott fumed before he pushed PIkachu back and stood forward, tapping his scalchop confidently.
"You want to battle Oshawott? Great, let's go then." Ash said enthusiastically. Pikachu smiled and hoped all the training would pay off and Oshawott will win against…
That was when Pikachu remembered they were against the grass brother, oh no.
"You have displayed excellent bonds and strategies along with some really strong pokemon Ash. I am excited about what this battle brings out." Cilan said as he took the spot.
"Pansage Pan." Pansage looked intimidatingly at Oshawott, who looked back sternly. Pikachu was hopeful before Oshawott got behind him and looked away, swiping his hand. Showing off as if Pansage wasn't strong enough for him.
"Pi ka" Pikachu said as he sparked his cheeks. Oshawott will battle.
"Don't worry Oshawott, remember our training and we will win this. You are a strong pokemon, remember when you saved Pikachu, you can win this. So show me that strength" Ash said as he and Pikachu pushed Oshawott back onto the battlefield.
Oshawott crossed his arms and pumped his fist as he was ready. Ash and Pikachu came back to their spot.
"Sorry Pikachu, I couldn't use you." Ash said while Pikachu just hopped back onto his shoulder and cried out happily.
Ash understood what Pikachu was doing and gave him a warm smile.
"Wouldn't a flying type like Pidove make more sense or even a dragon Gible?" Iris asked, completely baffled.
"Intentionally putting himself at a disadvantage, sure tastes like a bad recipe for me." Cress remarked from Cilan's side.
"Let's see about that. Pansage, let's give them a battle of great depth and flavor" Cilan said as Pansage nodded his head.
"Battle begin." Chili said as he pumped his fist high.
"First move is yours, from wherever you want." Cilan ordered.
"Great, Oshawott, use tackle." Ash ordered.
Oshawott ran up to Pansage and jumped forward to tackle Pansage but Pansage simply jumped ahead, making Oshawott miss.
"Bullet seed." Cilan said as Pansage twirled in the air and shot the attacks on Oshawott's back.
Oshawott ran all over the field due to the pain in his rear and fell face first into the field.
"Oshawott's bark may be a bit more than its bite." Iris exclaimed, "He should have stayed with Gible, don't you think Axew. Do you think Gible knows dragon rage? Ohh what about Draco meteor?"
"Looks like Oshawott should grow up a bit. You know, mature." Cilan said as he wiggled his index finger in front.
"What did you say?" Ash shouted as Oshawott got back up and shouted "Osha".
"Well, we will show you. Pansage, use bullet seed one more time." Cilan said.
"This is it, Oshawott. Use razor shell." Ash commanded.
Oshawott readied his shell as a blue sword extended from its tip and used it to deflect the bullet seed.
"Get in and use bite." Cilan ordered.
Pansage got in front of Oshawott and made a scary face to which Oshawott released his razor shell attack. Pansage then proceeded to bite on Oshawott's head, causing the otter to flail all around the place, before Pansage hopped off and pushed him into a rock.
Iris half laughed at this. Oshawott's first battle doesn't seem to go well.
"Oshawott, water gun." Ash commanded.
Oshawott shook his head and attacked with a water gun at Pansage. But Pansage just hopped between rocks, dodging Oshawott's attacks.
Oshawott got increasingly annoyed and fired off stronger water guns, which to add to the wound, Pansage dodged while doing handstands on the rocks.
"Oshawott stop and concentrate." Ash said.
Oshawott stopped and took a deep breath.
"Pansage, I think it is time to convert the power of the sun." Cilan said.
Pansage pushed back hard on his hands and shot upwards to collect sunlight.
"Now, use water gun." Ash ordered.
While Pansage was falling down from his ascent, Oshawott shot a curved water gun attack that intercepted and attacked Pansage straight into the rocks.
"Wow, a secret ingredient. But you will never defeat us with a simple recipe like that. Now, Pansage." Cilan exclaimed.
Pansage formed a glowing yellow orb in front of its shining tuft and aimed at Oshawott. A large, golden beam of light shot towards Oshawott who was trembling at the sight.
"Oshawatt, use your scalchop to deflect it." Ash ordered.
Oshawott immediately held his trustworthy scalchop that saved him from many thunderbolts and bullet seeds against the attack.
The beam pushed back Oshawott into a rock but Oshawott held his ground and the attack was reflected to the sky. Not at all harming Oshawott.
Everyone was surprised at the outcome, including Iris who was wondering if Oshawott learned light screen.
"Wow now that is a brilliant defense strategy. I have never seen an Oshawott like yours. It is truly amazing." Cilan remarked.
"Osha" Oshawott happily danced as he placed his favorite scalchop back on his stomach.
"You just wait and see, my awesome Oshawott is cut above the rest." Ash exclaimed as Oshawott flared his nostrils.
"Then we will not hold back. Pansage bullet seed." Cilan ordered.
"Use razor shell and get in." Ash said.
Oshawott charged his scalchop, but instead of staying on ground and deflecting them, Oshawott jumped into the air and started slashing at them. Which worked initially, until a certain wave of bullet seed caused Oshawott to turn around and be hit by the next wave.
The attack not only knocked Oshawott to ground, but also separated him from the scalchop.
"That's what happens when you get too much into your head. You should have stayed with the Gible." Iris said, Axew tapping her shoulders comfortingly. Garchomp line is a rarity to see and revered for their power. Iris always wanted to see one.
"Oshawott, quick get your scalchop." Ash said.
Oshawott got up and ran towards the scalchop.
"Uh uh uh, Pansage bullet seed." Cilan ordered.
"Look out." Ash called.
Oshawott was just a foot away when he was hit with a barrage of bullet seed, he dodged all of them but was being pushed away from his precious scalchop.
But after a wave, Oshawott immediately jumped forward and ran towards the scalchop suddenly. Which was what Pansage was waiting for as it shot a bullet seed at Oshawott's head.
The attack hit and Oshawott was spinning around, still dizzy from the attack.
"It is time for the battle to be served." Cilan exclaimed as he pushed his fist forward.
All the girls beside squealed loudly as she turned towards them.
"What gives?" She asked.
"Cilan, the connoisseur, said it is time for the battle to be served." A pretty girl with a blush said.
Iris just tilted her head as if the other girl got a second head.
"Hmm let me see. I am afraid your Oshawott isn't as robust as you wanted and your bond with Oshawott is not helping it. What a let down!" Cilan said.
"What are you talking about?" Ash shouted.
"Let's compare. Look at your Oshawott still wobbling. Now look at my Pansage." Pansage started boxing in front. "Your attacks are bland, your tactics may be surprising but they lack any spice. But my Pansage's crispy attacks give off the aroma of freshly moist grass. Dare I say, Pansage , you are the best battler in the field." Pansage jumped at the end.
"Huh?" Ash's eloquence had no bounds in the response.
"The pokemon connoisseur gym leader thing sounds a little too much and annoying." Iris exclaimed.
"And the fact that you chose a water type against my grass type shows me that you are far from refined." Cilan said.
"Well, here is your lesson then. Pokemon battles are far from types." Ash said, holding his fist forward.
"Now you sound desperate. Spoiling Oshawott's dish with your sour attitude." Cilan remarked.
"We will see about that. Okay Oshawott," Ash called, turning his hat completely back, "Use water gun at that wall." Ash said pointing to a section of wall.
"Osha?" Oshawott questioned.
"Do it." Ash said.
Oshawott did as his trainer did and the water gun attack bounced off the wall and many rocks before attacking the scalchop causing the scalchop to be raised into the air.
But Ash had another plan.
"Move your head to the right slightly." He called and Oshawott moved, causing the water to attack Pansage from its back, pushing it into the air.
"Woah ,how?" Iris asked.
"Catch it and razor shell." Ash said.
Oshawott ran forward and rolled, catching the razor and jumped up, with his razor ready and swiped at Pansgae who couldn't dodge due to being in air and crashed onto a rock.
"Wow, you do have some flavor after all." Cilan remarked. "Pansage, use bite."
"That's it, use fury cutter." Ash ordered.
Oshawott charged with his scalchop covered with a dirty green blade and hit Pansage head on. Both pokemon stood each facing ahead in opposite directions, with their back facing each other.
After a second, Pansage fell to its knees and fainted.
"Pansage is unable to battle. Challenger Ash is the winner." Chili declared.
"Ash won. Ash, won." Iris said as she looked at Ash who was celebrating with his pokemon.
'Trip, you are wrong. I will prove it to you. I will prove it to myself. I will make a team again, a larger team this time and defeat you fair and square, in a sweep. This is my promise to you, be prepared Trip.' Ash thought as he hugged Oshawott and Tepig, spinning them around.
Junior: Hope you guys like my take on their rivalry. I for one truly believe that if they focused more on the cheren part of Trip rather than the Paul part, it would have been amazing. But going on this way would be extra hard for them I guess, since….
Jade: It is 1.30 in the midnight, you should be in bed. Please sleep, man.
Junior: Just one more and this is done.
Jade: One more? It high time you wake up and…. Ohh shit not like that
Junior: (goes back to furiously writing next one)
Jade: I quit. Bye guys, I need my sleep.
