Sydney to the Max Season 5: Episode 5 - Wormhole Wonders

Sydney was sitting in the kitchen of her home typing on a keyboard with an iPad screen in front of her. From the kitchen door, Judy stepped in and said, "Morning Noodle." Sydney looked at Judy as she said, "Hey Grandma. How was camping out in the basement last night?" Judy then said, "Nice actually. A bit cool down there, but nice. I'll be honest, I was looking forward to spending one more night in my old room, but after you father painted the walls pink and put stuffed animals all over the place along with a crib... it just didn't feel like my room anymore." Sydney then said, "Well a lot has changed in the last few months, and a lot more is gonna change with this new baby on the way. But this will always be your home if you want it to be Grandma." Judy then hugged Sydney and said, "Thanks Noodle. Anyway, watcha doing there?" Sydney then said, "Just typing a paper for a school project. Don't worry. The device here is not connected to wi-fi. Dad made sure to block all of my devices from it after... you know." Judy then briefly rubbed Sydney's upper back and said, "It's gonna be okay Sydney. But anyway, what kind of laptop is this? And how can you type when your keyboard isn't connected to your screen?" Sydney then said, "Oh, it's through Bluetooth technology now Grandma. Nowadays you don't have to connect anything to whatever anymore... except your charger." Judy then said, "Wow. It's amazing at how far technology has come. When I was your age, we didn't use technology at all to do homework or school projects. The only time I saw a computer was when I went to my father's job, and they had these huge giant boxes that could only do some basic math. Who knows what computers and gadgets will be doing by the time you become a grandmother one day." Sydney then looked up and began to ponder as she said, "Hmm. I wonder what that be like..."

55 Years Later - The Future:

A seventy year old Sydney was driving a car down a highway as a young girl sat in the back seat looking at her phone. As the girl looked around the car, she said, "Hey grandma. Do you have any of the new food synthesizers. I'm hungry." Sydney then said, "Sorry Maya, but I don't have one in my car. Sorry you had to come to the science expo with me in my old automobile." The young girl Maya sat back and groaned as she said, "Ugh. This stinks. I'm hungry, and I gotta go to some boring science expo." Sydney smirked as she said, "I wouldn't call it boring. Especially considering your older sister has just discovered a way to create an artificial wormhole." Maya then leaned back more as she said, "If it don't make food or play me some TV shows, I don't care." Sydney then glanced at Maya and said, "Maya, you just can't spend all day only focused on eating and TV. The women of our family have all done great things. Your mother has done tremendous work at curing cancer, to which I donated all my profits from song writing to support her. Your great-grandmother, my mother, was a well respected doctor. Her mother, your great-great grandmother we named you after was a highly regarded federal judge. And on your father's side of the family, you have Grandma Olive who has done tremendous work in genetics, and Grandma Emmy who is a well respected teacher. But none of them got where they were by sitting around all day. It's time for you to get up and start shaking up the world Maya." Maya then rolled her eyes as she said, "Yeah. Whatever."

Sydney walked into a large open room that with food, science projects, and a crowd of people talking with one another. As Maya walked in from behind, Sydney said, "Wow Maya. Just look at all of the projects around here. They just..." Then Maya ran off as she said, "Chips! Yes!" Then as Maya ran away to the food, a seventy year old Sophia appeared walking towards Sydney. Sophia waved and said, "Hey Syd." Sydney then hugged Sophia as she said, "Sophia. Oh my gosh. How are you doing?" Sophia looking a bit tired in her eyes said, "Well raising a thirteen year old boy at my age has been tough, but Andy is still a good kid." Then Sydney said, "Well I know it's been tough ever since his parents died. Look, you may technically be his next of kin; but we're still sisters, and you have a huge extended family that will still support you, okay?" Sophia nodded her head and said, "Okay." Then Sydney said, "Where is Andy by the way?" Sophia looked behind Sydney and said, "Looks like he's getting chips over there with Maya."

Nearby a young blonde teenage boy approached Maya and said, "Hey Maya. Shway party we got going on here." Then Maya rolled her eyes and said, "No. It's totally not shway Andy. It's just an event made for science people to feel more special. What's science good for anyway? A man was put on the moon a hundred years ago, and did that end war? No. World hunger ended ten years ago, but did that end poverty? No. Science is just a big waste of time." Then Andy said, "Well science has cured many diseases, fixed the ozone layer, and ended pollution, so there is that." Maya glared at Andy as she said, "Hey, you're supposed to be my best friend. So start talking like one." Andy sighed, but then put on a fake determined face as he said, "You're right Maya. Science sucks, and you're ten times more awesome than any nerd in this room." Maya stood up straight as she said, "Shwell yeah!"

Then nearby, a seventy year old Olive and Emmy appeared and approached Sydney and Sophia. A smiling Emmy said, "Sophia. Hey. Oh wow, it is so good to see you." Sophia then hugged Emmy as she said, "Hey you two. Well I bet you two are so proud to see your grand-kid on stage today." Then Olive said, "Well I don't mean to brag, but tutoring her in my favorite school subjects when she was a kid may have given her a bit of an edge." Then Sydney said, "Ooo. It looks like it's about to start." Then people began to gather as a older man stood at a podium and said, "Ladies and gentlemen. We are all gathered here today to recognize the works of one of our generations most intelligent and gift minds, and her work in creating the first stable artificial wormhole. Ladies and gentlemen, lets give a round of applause for Miss Judy Reynolds Mendoza-Rozalski."

Then a teenage girl with curly hair: Judy, stepped onto the stage and smiled and waved everyone as they applauded and cheered for her. Then once the noise died down, Judy said, "Thank you. I am honored to be part of a family of such exceptional minds. As you all know: my grandmother: famed genetic engineer: Olive Rozalski was the first scientist to successfully take the genetic material of two females and created the first child born of two women: my father Barry Mendoza-Rozalski; who was one of the leading scientists in fixing the ozone. Like him, it is my honor to change the world with humanity's first stable wormhole. The research we will be able to do with this could help us learn to master instantaneous travel anywhere in the galaxy, and more importantly: help us better understand the universe and life itself."

Meanwhile, Maya was sitting in the crowd listening to Judy speak as Andy sat next to her. Maya rolled her eyes and said, "Boring. Come on Andy, lets poke around." Then Andy said, "But Maya, everyone is watching your sister talk." Maya then with a matter of a fact face said, "Yeah. Which means no one will be watching us do whatever we feel like. Come on." Then as Maya and Andy sneaked off to the side of the stage, a reporter stood up as they looked at Judy and said, "Miss Mendoza-Rozalski, have you and your team sent anything into any of your artificial wormholes yet, and will you eventually send in a person?" Then Judy said, "We have not, but we have created devices that can scan and send back sound waves being created from the other side. We haven't heard anything back yet, but with more time and study, we will eventually send a probe through. However we are years away at least from sending people through. However for your amazement, we shall activate and show you all the wormhole. Keep your distance please."

Judy then flipped a switch, and in the middle of the stage, a small black vortex appeared in a six foot tall metal ring. As Maya stood near the side of the stage, she rolled her eyes and said, "A big black circle thing. Big whoop. I can make that same effect by stirring soup in a pot. What makes this wormhole thing so cool anyway?" Then as Maya walked around the back of the stage to get closer, Andy said, "Maya, be careful." Maya then said, "Just chill Andy. It's no big deal." Then as Maya crawled onto the stage to look closer at the black hole from behind, suddenly she felt pulled towards it and yelled, "Huh? What's going on?" Judy noticed what was going on and said, "Maya, what are you doing up here? Get away from that!" As Judy felt herself pulled into the black hole she said, "It's got a hold of me. I can't get free! Ahhhh!" Then Maya suddenly got sucked into the wormhole and disappeared. People in the audience gasped, as a scared Judy yelled, "No! Maya!"

Maya fell into a dark area. As she sat up, she said, "Oh no. Where did that worm hole take me? Is this another planet with no light? Could I be in some alternate dimension? A dark mirror universe? Where in reality could I be?" Then Maya stood up and suddenly felt a large lid over her. Then Maya lifted the lid up and suddenly realized... she was in a large trash bin behind the crowd watching Judy's worm hole demonstration. As Maya watched Judy and several scientists looking at their computers, Maya rolled her eyes and said, "Oh come on. That wormhole could've sent me anywhere in the universe and it sent me into a large trash bin in the same room. This is so not shway." Then Maya suddenly heard several other teenagers nearby talking as one of them said, "This is terrible. Maya could be dead." Then a male teenager said, "I know. I've had a huge crush on Maya for the last three years, and I'm so angry at myself for not telling her." Then a female teenager said, "I know. I always thought Maya was really beautiful and talented, but I wish I told her."

Then Maya sat down in the trash bin as she said, "Whoa. Seemingly dying has just made me the most popular girl in school... SWEET!" Then Maya stuck her head out of the trash bin as she saw Andy walking by. Then Maya said, "Psst. Andy. Come over here." Andy then walked over to Maya and said, "Maya? You're alive? What happened?" Then Maya said, "The wormhole sent me to this trash bin of all places." Then Andy said, "Well you gotta get out and tell everybody you're okay." Then Maya said, "No way. Now that people think I'm dead, they suddenly like me more. I just hold Freddy saying he had a crush on me, and I think Debby likes me too." Then Andy put a hand under his chin as he said, "Hmm. I have been looking for a way to get Rachel to like me for the last few months... and this might be the way." Then a confused Maya said, "Huh?"

Then Andy ran over to the stage where the still open wormhole was. Then Andy yelled, "Stand back everyone. Maya is my friend and I'm gonna rescue her, even if I die trying." Then Andy jumped into the wormhole as a scared Judy yelled, "Andy, don't! NO!" Then Andy disapeared into the wormhole... and then instantly reappeared next to Maya in the trash bin. Andy then lifted his head a bit and said, "Hey there Maya." Then on the stage, Judy held a communications device as she said, "Okay. This special communicator should be able to send sound wavelengths through the worm hole's barrier." Then Judy threw the communicator into the wormhole, and then in seconds it appeared in Maya's hands. Judy then held her own communicator to her face and said, "Judy, this is Maya. Can you hear me?" In the trash bin, Maya grinned and then put a fake panicked voice as she said, "Judy, is that you? I don't know where I am. Andy is here now, but we're so scared." Then Judy said, "Just stay where you are Maya. We're gonna try to find a way to get you out. Now it looks like anything we send through the wormhole will come to you. Is there anything we can give you as we try to find a way to get you out?" Then with a big grin Maya said, "Well some pizza and some doughnuts would be nice."

Three hours later, Maya and Andy were eating pizza together in the trash bin as Andy said, "Oh my gosh. This is the best idea ever Maya. Pretending to be trapped on an alien planet while we eat all the food we want all day long while everyone misses us and says only good things about us... this is the life." Then suddenly the two heard Judy on the communications device say, "Good news you two. We have some special pattern enhancers that if you hold onto, should allow us to reverse the direction in which the wormhole pulls you, and bring you back home. Here they are." Then sudddenly two vests with wires all over them appeared in Maya's hand. Then Andy said, "Well, looks like the party is over. Come on Maya. Lets let them bring us home." Then Maya with a grin said, "Oh no. This party ain't ending." Then Maya held her communications device closer to her mouth as she said, "Ahh! There are alien monsters on this planet. And then just destroyed those pattern enhancer things." Then the two heard Judy yell, "Oh my God. What can we do to save you too?" Then Maya said, "Wait. The pizza we have is distracting them, and keeping them away from us." Then Judy said, "Okay. Stay right there. We'll send you all the pizza we have to save you." Then Maya and Andy both began giggling, as Andy said, "Okay. This is so shway."

Another three hours later, Maya and Andy were eating more pizza as Maya said, "Best scheme ever. We're living like kings man. KINGS!" Then the two heard Judy on the communications device say, "Good news guys. We have a beam ready that should pull you guys back to us. Now there is a chance this beam could destroy you, but since you say there are alien monsters attacking you, we have to take this chance." Then Maya and Andy's eyes got wide as Andy said, "Did she say destroy us!?" Then the two heard Judy say, "Okay. We're gonna activate it in five, four, three, two..." Then Maya and Andy both jumped out of the trash bin and yelled, "NO!" Then everyone turned to see Maya and Andy with puzzled looks. Then Sydney and Sophia ran over to Maya and Andy and hugged them as Sophia said, "Oh my God. You're alive." Then Judy stepped towards them as she said, "But how did you..." Then one teenager stuck his head into the trash bin and said, "Hey. There's like twenty pizza boxes in here." Then Maya suddenly had a very guilty look on her face, as an angry Sydney said, "You are so getting grounded young lady."

That evening Maya was sitting on her bed in her room looking upset as Judy stepped in. Judy looking a bit uncertain of what to say said, "Hey. How you doing?" Then Maya said, "Oh, just hanging out in here with no phone or electronics. So just living like a caveman I guess." Then Judy sat next to Maya and said, "How long will your grounding be?" Maya sighed and said, "The longest one yet." Judy sighed and then said, "Maya. Why did you do it?" Maya then said, "I don't know. I guess... I was just tired of you getting so much attention, I just wanted a little attention myself. And when I finally I got it, I started to milk it... until it blew up in my face. So I guess we're back to you being the kid with all of the attention again." Judy sighed and said, "Maya... I guess this may surprise you but... I've always felt like you were getting more attention." Maya looked surprised as she said, "Say what?" Then Judy said, "Yeah. You were always up to crazy stuff that kept mom and dad's eyes glued on you. So I guess I kind of pushed myself to be a know-it-all so they'd pay more attention to me. But despite all the awards and recognition I got... it just dawnd on me that all my hard work caused me to forget I had taken my attention off you... my sister... and I'm sorry."

Maya looking a bit guilty now said, "Well... I guess I could've tried spending a little more time with you and learn a bit about all that science stuff you know." Then Judy said, "Well speaking of that, I looked at your phone after mom took it from you, and the internal chronometer was off by half a second." A confused Maya then said, "Yeah? So?" Then Judy said, "Maya, that wormhole didn't just send you across the room. It send you across the room half a second into the future. Maya... your incident has just revealed I might've just stumbled onto how to create time travel." Maya suddenly looking way more interested now said, "Seriously? Like real deal time travel. That's so shway." Judy grinned and said, "Mega shway. So... once your grounding is over... wanna join me and my team at trying to invent real deal time travel? There's a lot of math and science involved." Then Maya said, "Yeah... but I think my sister can help with that." Then Judy and Maya both gave each other a hug.
