2017:
Emmy was sitting in a chair facing the mirror in her bedroom, as Sophia stood behind Emmy braiding her hair. As Sophia worked, she said, "Okay. Almost done. And... there." Emmy smiled as she looked at herself and Sophia in the mirror and said, "Wow. We both look amazing." Then Sophia said, "Okay. Let me change into my clothes I brought so we can look like twins for our super selfie." Sophia then casually pulled off her clothes, as Emmy's face turned blush red as her eyes became fixated on Sophia's increased amount of bare skin. Then as Sophia looked in her bag, she said, "Shoot. I left the clothes at my place. I'll get them and be right back." Then Emmy said, "Oh, it's okay." Then as Sophia put her previous clothes back on she said, "Nah. If I run, it'll be quick. I could use the exercise. See you in a bit." Sophia then rushed out of the room, as Emmy titled her head down low and sighed.
Suddenly Emmy heard a voice say, "Wow, you are so crushing on her." Emmy turned her head and saw her older sister Jenna at the door. Emmy's face became red again, but this time from embaressment, as she said, "Wha... what do you mean Jenna?" Jenna then sat next to Emmy as she said, "Sis, I'm in midlde school. Trust me, I know what a girl having a crush looks like. So... does she know?" Emmy with a sad face turned her head. Jenna looking more serious now said, "Do mom and dad know?" Emmy with a sad face still, turned her head again. Jenna breathed a sigh of relief as she said, "Good. You know how much they listen to those radio programs about alleged family values all of the time. They are so totally anti-woke." Then Emmy sighed and said, "It doesn't matter anyway. Sophia is always going on and on about boy bands in the magazines, and boys at school she thinks are cute. It's not worth it." Then Jenna looking more curious said, "So... is it just Sophia you like, or... are there other girls you like?" Then Emmy said, "Well... I've just met her, but there's this cute girl in my class named Olive. I mean we're just friends, but I don't know, maybe..." Jenna then put a hand on Emmy's shoulder and said, "Look. Whatever happens: when it really matters, I'll always be here for you sis."
2024:
Olive was getting several of her belongings out of her high school locker, when Emmy suddenly aproached her. Emmy with a big smile said, "Good morning my beautiful fiance." Olive gave Emmy a quick kiss on the lips and then said, "Good morning my beautiful fiance." With a bigger smile Emmy said, "Mmm, I still like hearing that word: fiance. I can't believe we're getting married in ten months." Then Olive said, "Actually it's going to be in ten months, four days, three hours, and fifteen minutes assuming our vows are finished exactly at noon on the big day." Emmy looked at Olive with a surprised face, as Olive with a straight forward face said, "What? I love you and I love math."
Then two boys aproached Olive and Emmy as one of them said, "Hey. Can we ask you two something?" Then Olive rolled her eyes and said, "No, we don't do threesomes or foursomes, and there are no sex tapes of us to sell." Then Emmy with a straight forward tone said, "Not until a few years into our marriage at least." Olive looked at Emmy with a very surprised face, as Emmy with a straight forward tone said, "What? We might wanna do something to really spice things up at some point."
Then one of the boys said, "Actually, we both work on the Homecoming commitee, and we wanted to talk to you about the recent nominations for Homecoming Queen." Then Emmy with a smile put a hand on Olive's shoulder and said, "Congrats Olive. You deserve it." Then the other boy said, "Actually you've both been nominated." Emmy looking surprised said, "What? But I'm..." Then the first boy said, "One of the most respected girls in this school. Everyone knows you chose Olive over your family, and despite all your setbacks, have still stayed the course and worked hard in your classes." Then a confused Olive said, "So if we're both nominated for Homecoming Queen, does that mean we're in compeition with each other?" Then the other boy said, "No. The way we tally votes every year is the top two students always get crowned. Meaning two kings could win, or two queens could win. It's never happened before, but it could. We just thought you'd both want to know." Then as the two boys walked away, Olive and Emmy looked at each other excited as Olive said, "Ah! We could both become queens together!" Then Emmy said, "Yeah. Come on. Lets tell the other amigas."
2022:
Emmy sat in her bedroom talking into her cell phone as she said, "Love you Olive. No you hang up first. No you first. I love you so much, so I'm never gonna be the one to hang up. Well if you don't, be prepared because I'm never gonna hang up on the person I love." Then suddenly the bedroom door opened, and Emmy's mother stepped in as she said, "Just here to clean any dirty clothes." Emmy suddenly looked embaressed as she said, "Mom alert. Bye." Emmy then turned off her phone as Emmy's mother looking curious said, "Emmy, who were you talking to? I just heard the end of it, but it sounded like someone special." Emmy began to look nervous as she said, "Well... it was." Emmy's mother looking a bit excited, sat on the bed, and said, "Well tell me Emmy. Who's the lucky boy that my baby girl has her eyes set on?" Then Emmy began to look much more nervous now as she said, "Well... um..." Then Emmy's mother with a big smile said, "It's okay. It's just us girls here. You can tell me." Then Emmy spoke very slowly as she said, "Well... it's... not... a... boy."
Suddenly the smile completely disapeared from the face of Emmy's mohter as she said, "What?" Then Emmy said, "You know my friend Olive? Well... we're more than friends. She's... my... girlfriend." Emmy's mother suddenly had a face of anger as she stood up and said, "You... you sneak behind my back and... Emmy, after all the things I've done for you. After all the sacrifices me and your father made to give you a better life." Then Emmy looking very worried said, "I didn't do it to hurt you. It's just that I love Olive, and she makes me so happy, and completes me and..." Then Emmy's mother suddenly slapped Emmy across the face and said, "I don't know what kind of demon is posessing my daughter, but get out of her now!" Tears went across Emmy's face as she said, "Mommy... I didn't mean to..." Then Emmy's mother said, "You are to never speak to this devil girl that's poisoned your mind ever again, or I'm sending you to an institution that cures girls of bad desires." Emmy then stood up and said, "No. I'm not doing any of those things. I love Olive and only I control who I like." Then Emmy's mother bitterly said, "Then I have no daughter." Emmy looked shocked as she said, "What?" Then Emmy's mother pointed to the door and yelled, "OUT!" Then tears began to flow out of Emmy's eyes as she said, "But, I..." Then Emmy's mother screamed, "OUT!" Then Emmy ran out of her house crying and sobbing, as Emmy's sister: Jenna stuck her out of her bedroom watching Emmy leave with a troubled face.
2024:
Emmy and Olive both stood in the bike shop smiling as Sophia took a picture of them. Sophia then looked at her camera and said, "Good. That'll look great blown up on the posters." The three girls then walked over to Sydney who was working on some posters as she said, "These are already looking great, and will look fantastic posted all over the school." Then Max walked over to the girls and said, "Hey. If you need anymore art supplies, let me know. Angela told me there's a great art supply store near her office. Plus, I'll be happy to hang up as many of these posters around the shop as you want." Emmy with happy tears in her eyes said, "Guys... you've all done so much for us. Thank you." Then Sophia looked at Emmy as she said, "Well we're just glad the world is finally starting to see you the way we do. As a strong beautiful warrior queen." Then Olive said, "Well I'm just glad our school allows it so two girls can become queen. I mean it's never happened before." Then Sydney said, "Well considering we've never had two girls campaign together before, I'm sure it's gonna make a lot of buzz. Now let's get back to work."
2022:
Emmy wore a ripped jacket as she stepped out of a public library. Then a car pulled up nearby, and Emmy's sister Jenna stepped out. Jenna then aproached Emmy and immediately hugged her. Emmy hugged Jenna back and said, "Hey." Then as the two girls got into the car, Jenna sat in the driver's seat as she said, "So have you been here all day?" Emmy nodded her head and said, "Yeah. Since 10am. After using up my two hours of internet time, I just read most of the time. I found a dollar on the floor, and used that to buy some chips for lunch." Then Jenna looking upset said, "Oh Emmy. Well the backpack I have in the back seat has plenty of food in it. But why didn't you take more food from my friend Carly?" Emmy sighed and said, "It felt like it was rude to do so. Carly's family didn't have much anyway." Then Jenna said, "Okay. Well... I can always ask a favor from one of the cheerleaders I tutored. And Danny owes me a favor. Oh, and there's..." Then Emmy said, "Jenna, I can't keep stayning in the homes of people I don't know. It just... doesn't feel right."
Then Jenna said, "What? And park the car a few blocks away from home and let you sleep in it again? You looked like you were freezing the one time we tried that. Plus, mom and dad got concerned when they didn't see the car in the drive way." Then Emmy said, "Are... are mom and dad concerned about me?" Jenna sat silent, looking uncertain of what to say. As Emmy read Jenna's face, she tilted her head down looking more sad. Then as a few tears appeared in Emmy's eyes, she wiped them away and said, "I... um... I'll stay at the shelter I got some food from that one time. They have beds, and it seems safe enough." Jenna looking frustrated said, "Emmy, no. You're my sister. I can't let you..." Then Emmy interrupted Jenna and said, "There's no other option for now." Jenna took a deep breath and said, "I am going to visit you every day, and I am going to keep trying to talk to mom and dad into letting you come back home. Okay?" Emmy nodded her head and said, "Okay."
2024:
Olive and Emmy stepped into the high school principals's office and sat down with confused faces as the female principal faced the two teenagers. Olive then said, "Um... so did either of us do something bad?" The principal smiled as she said, "No. You two aren't in any trouble. Its just, I wanted to inform you girls of some actions that had to be taken due to recent events. Now I see you two girls are the first lesbian couple to advertise wanting to become co-queens together for Homecoming." Then Emmy said, "Yeah. We figured if we could both win the title together, why not advertise together?" The principal sighed and then said, "Well, doing so seems to have stirred up rumblings from the wrong type of crowds. Thanks to your advertisements being posted around town, it caused a huge uproar at the recent PTA meeting, causing accusations to be made that the school is fostering an environment that encourages what types of sexual preferences students should make. And unfortunately the head of the school board agreed." Then a panicked looking Olive said, "You mean, we can't go to Homecoming together?" The principal then said, "No. We could never do that. You two have every right to attend together and enjoy yourselves. However, as a means to help the controversy die down, we're going back to the old model of there being just one Queen and King for Homecoming this year. I just wanted you both to be aware." Olive and Emmy both sat stunned as they heard the principal's words.
2022:
Emmy's sister Jenna was carrying several bags down the stairs as her parents followed her down. Emmy's mother then yelled, "You are not leaving this house young lady, and you are certaintly not taking your brother with you." Then Jenna angerly turned to look at her parents as she said, "What? If Emmy disobeys you, she's kicked out of the house, but if I disobey you I'm kept in. Try to be consistent." Then Emmy's father said, "You are Diego are our children. You do as we say." Then Jenna bitterly said, "I think you have to act like parents, to be qualified for that title." Then Jenna's little brother Diego aproached Jenna and said, "I got my things." Jenna nodded her head and said, "Good. I'll meet you in the car." Then Diego looked at his parents as he said, "You shouldn't have been so mean to Emmy."
Then as Diego headed out the door, Emmy's mother said, "Don't you dare take your brother from us." Then Jenna said, "We're going to live with Tia Carmen in California. She's family, and you'll know where we are. And if you try to use the police to take us back... well I'm sure an investigation would definitely turn the tables when they learned about what you did to Emmy. So stay away from us, because we sure don't want to stay near you two." Emmy's father held out a hand and said, "Jenna. What we did to Emmy was for her own good. To teach her a lesson. But if you and your brother leave, this will destroy the way people look at us and trust us at church." Then as Jenna stepped out the door, she looked at her parents and said, "Well maybe since you forgot in church we learned that love involves being patient, being kind, not being easily angered, slow to anger, and being protectful... well... maybe you're getting what's coming to you." Then Jenna angerly walked out the door.
2024:
Olive and Emmy both sat in the bike shop together as Sydney and Sophia faced them. Sydney looked angry as she said, "That's so messed up. The school can't say two girls can both become queen, and then change the rules last minute." Then Sophia said, "We should protest and not go. If our two best friends won't be treated with equal respect at Homecoming, then Homecoming isn't good enough for us." Then Olive said, "No. We should all go still. We can still do everything the same. It's just that the two of us won't both be able to wear a crown. It's just a silly popularity contest." Then Emmy said, "Yeah. I mean it's not the first time I've experienced pushback for liking Olive. These things happen. It's not like this is anywhere near as bad as when my parents kicked me out of their lives... and their hearts."
Emmy then titled her head down, as a few tears went down from her eyes. Sydney and Sophia then moved to Emmy's side and hugged her. Sydney then said, "Emmy, you didn't deserve that, and you don't deserve this either." Emmy made a little smile as she said, "I know. But like Olive said, this is just a silly popularity contest. There are more important fights in the battle for equality. This one can be pushed to the side for now." Olive then held Emmy's hand as she said, "You sure you okay?" Emmy nodded her head and said, "Yeah. Just promise that when you win and have to dance with whatever boy becomes king, that you imagine it's me there with you." Olive looking confused said, "Why are you certain I'm gonna win?" Then Emmy with a straight forward tone said, "Have you not looked at your super hot body Olive? Trust me. You're winning."
2022:
Emmy was standing outside of the Reynolds family home, as Jenna and Diego were standing in front of her. Emmy looking concerned said, "Are you sure leaving home is right?" Jenna nodded her head and said, "Yeah. Mom and dad tried sending us to some creepy therapist who was trying to keep us from going gay like you, telling us being gay is caused by demons and stupid stuff like that. Plus, there's just no way we can stay with them after the way they treated you. Don't worry. Tia Carmen is gonna take care of us, and she's gonna try to get a lawyer to help us all too." Then Emmy said, "Well I'll come with you." Then Jenna said, "No. You need to stay here in Portland and be near your girlfriend. You both really need each other right now. Plus, the fact that your friends' dad just welcomed you to live in their home with open arms is a pretty sweet deal." Then Emmy immediately hugged her two siblings and said, "I love you both so much. I'm sorry I caused all this." Then Diego said, "You didn't cause this Emmy. You're strong and commited to what you want. That's like inspirational, you know?" Emmy kissed her brother Diego on the cheek and said, "Be safe and keep studying hard in school little bro." Then Emmy looked at Jenna and said, "I'll call or text you every day, okay." Then Jenna said, "It's gonna be okay Emmy. When it really matters, I'll always be here for you."
2024:
Sydney, Olive, Emmy, and Sophia were all talking and eating together at the school Homecoming dance. Then suddenly a student announcer stepped onto a stage and said, "Excuse me everyone. Can I have your attention. Its time to announce this year's Homecoming King and Queen. Now to start things off, we'll announce our new queen." People waited in anticipation as the announcer slowly opened a card and said, "And this year's Homecoming Queen is... Olive Rozalski!" Everyone clapped, as Olive stepped onto the stage and waved. Smiles were on everyone's face, except for Emmy who looked a bit sad. Then the announcer opened another a card and said, "Lets see. And according to the card here... the write-in winner the student body voted to be this year's Homecoming King is... Emmy Mendoza!" The whole room immediately applauded and cheered, as a very shocked and confused Emmy walked onto the stage. As Emmy stepped onto the stage, the announcer said, "And to give our new royal couple their crowns is a former Homecoming Queen herself visiting us tonight... Jenna Mendoza!"
Emmy turned her head in surprise as she saw her sister Jenna walking toward her holding two crowns. Emmy with a big smile on her mouth, and tears in her eyes, ran over to Jenna and hugged her. Jenna hugged Emmy back as she smiled and said, "Good to see those hundreds of texts I sent to all my old friends here convinced them to write you in for the King slot." Emma looked at her sister as she said, "Wait. You mean you're the one that helped me become..." Jenna smirked as she said, "Hey. I told you. When it really maters, I'll always be here for you." Then Emmy walked back over to Olive and held her hand, as Jenna slowly put matching crowns on Olive and Emmy's heads. Then the two girls went onto the dance floor and began to have a spotlight dance together. As they danced, Emmy looked into Olive's eyes and said, "Is this real? Is this really happening?" Olive smiled as she said, "Yes Emmy. Tonight, for once... the world finally sees you for the queen... and king... you really are." A smiling Emmy gave Olive a quick kiss on the lips, and then two continued to dance together for the rest of the night.
