Author's Note!
Hey Everyone!
Not sure how many of you guys read these but I just wanted to explain incase anyone has been on here since before 2014!
So what happened was before this account I had a different one called Vampgirl476. On that account I had a few stories started but never got around to finishing. As I have no access to that account anymore I decided that I am going to start fresh in a sense, and update them on this account. This story is one of them. This story on the other account was called The Circle. That being said I took what I had from that story already, edited it, changed a few things, and decided to just over all make it better then what it was, because it sucked before. Which is slightly understandable seeing as I wrote it back in 2014 when I was about 14/15 and am now 22/23 years old.
Anyway I hope you enjoy it and please Review if you do! Let me know what you like about it!
!Disclaimer! I don't own the character's just the story line/plot!
Chapter 1
My day started off normal for being a Friday morning and 16 years old. I woke up this morning Meet up with my best friend Lissa and her boyfriend, Aaron, at school before class, where we talked about ideal gossip. Then when the bell rang we went to our morning classes, then met up again at lunch, had our afternoon classes. After school I had my weekly study session with an older guy named Jesse, who I was pretty sure wanted to get with me, but I had no interest in. The session tonight ended up running late and it was starting to get dark out when I left the school. Sadly, I had about an hour walk across town until I got home.
It was eerily quiet and dark by the time I got halfway home. It was starting to get cold now because of it being mid-October. My usual path home was blocked because of some construction happening. The alternate route I took gave me the creeps, between the complete lack of people or signs that anyone lived in this neighborhood, the streetlights kept flickering off and on as I walked past. If the creepy feeling this street gave off wasn't enough, there was also quiet dripping noise of water in the distance somewhere. Getting to creeped out by this street I turned down into an alley that I knew would lead to the main road again.
Everything was fine until I turned a corner in the alley to see a group of people all wearing long black cloaks, in a circle around a fire, softly chanting. I stood there not making a sound and looked at the group. Looking around there must have been about twenty or thirty people in the circle. Some had their hands out beside them palms up, while others had their hands folded together in front of them. In the middle of the circle right by the fire was two other people who were standing around a table and looked to be doing some sort ritual.
How weird, what are a bunch of people doing in the middle of an alley at this time of night? I thought to myself.
Realizing I shouldn't be here, I took a few steps back, and of course with my luck ended up tripping and falling back. Catching myself with my hands I let out a slight his of pain from the scrapes on the pavement. I quickly checked my hands to make sure I had no serious cuts.
Suddenly a dark shadow came over me. Looking up I saw one of the cloaked people from the group of people in the circle was looking at me and yelled something in a different language I didn't recognize, back at the group that made them all stop. The person turned back to me and made their way forward bending down to pull me up off the ground. I tried to run after I stood but couldn't, my legs felt like stone cemented to the ground. The person in front of me raised their hands and pulled down their hood. It was a woman with long black hair, crystal blue eyes were what I could see in the dim light. I also saw what I thought was a long scar down the side of her face on her cheek.
"Well, what do we have here?" She said in English this time, to me.
"A young girl. How nice." Said another female sounding figure coming up beside the first woman.
I looked between the two of them for a minute wondering what was happening. The lady looked to my eyes. Her looking into my eyes seemed to have locked me into place. I was mesmerized by how beautiful her eyes look with the light of the fire flickering and reflecting off of them.
"Tell me what your name is?" She said not breaking eye contact.
"Rosemarie Hathaway."
Why the heck did I just tell her my name. She is a stranger. I thought to myself.
"How old are you?" Said the second cloaked person.
"I am sixteen years old." I said automatically.
She turned to look at the group of people that are still around the fire. "We have a new member!" She yelled putting her hands on my shoulders and pushing me towards the group. "I'd like to introduce Rosemarie Hathaway. The newest and our second youngest member to our organization."
Finally able to look away now I looked at the rest of the people. I watched as one by one they all pulled their hoods down and to at look at me. A slow clapping erupted from the crowd of men and women. One person caught my eye because I recognized from school just from seeing him in the halls as I past by, I had never bothered to learn his name. He had the same black hair color and crystal blue eye color as the first lady that had showed me her face. The second lady that had came up to me turned back around to look at me again.
"My name is Natasha Ozera . I'm the leader of this group. Welcome."
"What exactly is this?" I asked.
"We are a group of magic users. Those of us that were born with it are called Moroi, an ancient secret race of people that dates back to the medieval ages. Those that know about our race and have learned of our existence like you, we call Dhampirs. You though were not born with magic can learn to use small spells with the help of us Moroi."
"Look although this all sounds cool, magic and what not. I don't want to join your cult. So thanks but I'll just be leaving." I said as I tried to step away.
"I am sorry my dear but once you have seen us you are a part of us, and there is only one way out. Death." The second lady said.
That was a little over two years ago. And after two years I've learned to control my magic, as they said I would be able to do, though not in the degree they thought. My magic levels started off normal like the other Dhampir's in the group, but then I tried harder spells and found that I was able to do and control them just as well or better then some Moroi in my group or as they call it my "Circle". It's been two years and just like that first night I hate every minute that I'm there and apart of them.
"Hello… Rose, earth to Rose." I heard Lissa say.
"Huh?..." I said focusing on Lissa.
"Zone out much?"
"Oh ah ... sorry Lissa. Just remembering something I have to do tonight." I said as I closed my locker after grabbing my backpack.
"Oh…What do you have to do tonight?" She asked curiously. "You normally don't do anything outside of school."
"I have to go out of town to visit someone tonight for a few minutes" I lied. "But I'll be back before tomorrow for school. It's just a quick visit."
"Yay, so you're going then, the one next week?" She said excitedly.
"Where are you asking me to go exactly?"
"To the dance, silly. I've only been talking about it for the past three weeks remember. It's bad enough Christian isn't going to be going with me as my date because his aunt won't let him go, I need my best friend there to have some fun with me. "
Lissa and Christian had met not long after I joined the Circle, through me much to my dismay. After I had joined Christian saw the opportunity to have a friend now that he didn't have to worry about them getting dragged into the mess that was our "occult club", as he called it. The one day he had come up to me to tell me about an emergency meeting that was happening that night when Lissa had come up to us and introduced herself. From that moment on Christian was hooked on Lissa. Up to that point I had done everything in my power to keep Lissa away from possibly finding out and having to join, but after that day Lissa had made it her mission to get Christian to join our friend group, and eventually they started to date. After I found out I cornered him and threatened him about her safety. He told me he hated the group as much as I did and didn't want Lissa anywhere near it.
"No Lissa, you know dances aren't my thing, even if they were I haven't even been asked once to it, by anyone but you. You at least have a date in a sense with Mason taking you as friends. I don't have that except for when Jesse asked me to, and that would just be weird and gross if I did." I said cringing a little. "Sorry".
"Oh, come on there has got to be at least one guy that doesn't have a date."
"Nope everyone has a date. You and Mason are going together, same with Mia and Eddie. I think Jesse now has a date actually, after he stopped going for me, I think he asked Camille. So ya, everyone but me."
"Well, no, there is one guy who still doesn't have a date…" She said drifting off at the end.
"Who, as far as I know everyone has someone." I said slightly curious.
"Just the most popular guy in school, Dimitri Belikov." She said with a sing-song voice and nodding behind me towards someone.
I quickly looked behind me and saw Dimitri standing a few lockers down talking to some of the other popular kids that terrorized our school. "What! no! I'd have no chance with him. Besides that, he has shown no interest in anyone at the school since he started here three months ago. I doubt I am any different."
"What are you talking about he's had a crush on you since he started here, that's why he won't go out with anyone, he's too hung up on you."
"Ok, first, totally not true. I haven't even talked to him outside of gym class, so I highly doubt that. Second if he did like me that much don't you think he would have tried asking me out by now?". I said matter-of-factly.
"Rose he's probably nervous or something. Oh! You know what he probably thinks you are dating Mason; he is always around you during school."
"Me and Mason that's funny Lissa." I said laughing. "Anyway, I got to get going. See ya later Lissa."
I waved goodbye and started heading home for the day. After my encounter two years ago, I decided to stop any after school activities and walking anywhere. Even though I have my magic and could easily fight off anyone or thing, but I didn't want to run into any other groups that might be lurking in the dark. One cult was more then enough. One good thing that came out of joining though was I learned the places to avoid possibly running into one.
I walked in the door and went straight to my room. I put my bag down and changed into some track clothes and headed back out the door. I normally run in the morning but didn't today because I had slept in. I started on my usual route to the park down by the river in my town. I liked running there along the river, it was peaceful, and I loved looking around and watching the families walk by. I liked seeing how happy they were together, the families that had little kids, they always seemed so happy. It made me think about what my life would have been like if my own parents hadn't have died when I was little.
I was told when I was little that they had died in a freak car crash on their way home after having a date night. I had been at Lissa's house for a sleep over. I never thought anything of it growing up or doubted the story, everything had checked out. The report said that there was a drunk driver that had not only run them off the road but had also managed to make both that driver's car and my parents car roll over on it's self. Sadly, before the emergency response teams had gotten to them to possibly save them the car exploded.
It wasn't until about six months after joining the Circle, and thanks to Christian's help, that I found out that what happened to my parents wasn't an accident. They had been in the same group that I was in now and had angered the former leader of the group Lucas and Moira Ozera, Christian's parents. As a retaliation for whatever it was that had made them mad they deemed death as a suitable punishment for them and had used magic to cause the accident. However, by doing this they were deemed as traitors to the Circle and therefore executed.
After that Christian's aunt took him in and got adopted by my aunt Alberta. She wasn't really my aunt by blood or marriage even. She was just my mother and father's best and most trusted friend. When she had heard of my parent's accident and that I was still alive, she had the adoption papers ready and signed within a week. She has taken care of me since that day.
As I looped myself back the way I came on the other side of the river I stopped at the playground where the city had put some public washrooms and fountains. After I stopped to get a drink I decided to sit down on one of the shaded benches for a break. When I saw the sun was starting to go down I decided to start heading back home. As I rounded a corner though I ended up running into what felt like a wall.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to run in to you, are you okay.' I recognized that voice from the few times I had heard it in gym class.
"Ya, I'm fine, my hands and back are just a little sore from the fall, that's all." I said once my shock had subsided.
"Here, let me help you getup." He said reaching out a hand.
As I looked up at Dimitri as he looked down at me with his hand outstretched. hand I couldn't help but take in his features. If I had to describe Dimitri in one word it would be sexy. With his dark tan, shoulder length brown hair, and his dark rich chocolate-coloured eyes nobody could resist him. All of that partnered with his 6'3 height and body made from pure well-defined muscles he was what I pictured as my perfect dream guy.
After I realized I was just sitting there staring up at him, I snapped out of it and took his hand. When our skin touch I felt a bolt of electricity run through my body almost like my body was just responding of its own accord to his touch, and it wanted more. I let myself imagen for a minute what his callused, yet gentle hands would feel like on other places on my body. I imagined him to be one of those guys that would be on the rougher side with me in terms of demanding and getting what he wants from me, but ever touch would be gentle and pleasurable, touches that where you could just feel from the all the love and adoration he had for you, while he made you moan and beg him for more.
I snapped out of my little day dream when I felt him pull my arm slightly pulling me off the ground. He looked at me with shock for a moment, then amusement. Dimitri pull of me was so filled with power that for a moment I lost balance and fell into him. While I was so close to him I couldn't help but smell him. I don't know exactly what he smelled like, but I do know it did not help my brain think straight. While I was still slightly dazed from him pulling me up so quickly he hands wrapped his hands and arms around my waist pulling my abdomen slightly closer to him.
"Me and you are the same." He whispered in my ear.
"What do you mean." I whispered back to him.
"You're apart of the mystics aren't you?"
"What?" I questioned pulling back slightly to look at his face. "What are you talking about?"
"Right, you probably call them something different in your group. Blyad!." He said looking slightly upset but sounding surprized. "I saw your mark."
My eyes widened. A week after I stubbled upon that first meeting they had told me that I needed to get the insignia of our group put on me somewhere. They told me a could choose wherever it went but it had to be somewhere that could be seen if I needed to show it to another group to prove I was already "claimed", as Tasha put it. I hated the thought of getting marked, I hated the thought of the Circle in general so picked that back of my neck right below my hair line. It was just a little mark that was shaped almost like a lightning blot that had curves to the ends of it, then under that I had gotten a little jagged X shaped mark to signal my ranking in the group. The X shaped marks were more like to signify what level you were with your magic. Most Dhampirs only had one or two while the Moroi got three or four of them. I happen to be an exception, for being a Dhampir, and had four of them myself. I would have had a fifth mark to but that mark was only for the group leaders, and was very rarely given out to them or anyone else that wasn't.
Hearing Dimitri had seen them and knew what they were I started to get nervous talking about them in public with so many people around. Pushing away from him hard enough that he let go of me I started to look for somewhere to go. Grabbing his arm I walked us over to some near by trees that had a foot trail leading through them. Once we got far enough in to them I turned around pointing my finger at him.
"How do you know about them?" I exclaimed quietly still not wanting to be over heard.
"I'm one to, I hate it but I am." He turned around moving his hair that was in a ponytail to the side.
From the distance I was from him I could clearly see what looked like two of my lightning bolt shaped mark placed in a way that made them look like a weird V shape. Under that I could clearly se the same jagged X's that I had, all four of them.
"You're from a different one, as mine call themselves the 'Circle'." I said understanding dawning on me.
"Yes, I saw your marks during gym when we were sparing last month." He said happily. "I've been looking trying to find a place and a time that I could talk to you about it. I have never met anyone my age that is apart of it. I was so happy when I saw you were, it was like a prayer being answered for me."
"Wow, um…Why exactly? Like I know you just said you never met anyone your age that's stuck in the same mess but what's with the dream part?" I asked taking a few steps back.
He put a hand to the back of his neck and started to rub it almost nervously. "Oh, that…well…that is because I thought you were really beautiful, and I wanted to get to know you better but felt like I couldn't, you know."
"Ya, I do. It's the same reason why I don't talk to anyone outside of my friend group. Hell, the only reason I talk to them is because I don't want them to think something is going on with me and start looking into it." I said looking down and kicking some dirt around slightly.
"Exactly, when I saw you were already apart of our world I felt like I had finally gotten a break and could finally have a real friend to talk to."
"What about all the popular people you talk to at school?" I asked. He was always surrounded by people at school.
"I try and avoid them, I talk to them as little as possible. Just for some reason they won't leave me alone. I've had half a mind to use magic on them to get them to leave me be."
I nodded understanding. After I had gained the magic capabilities to do the magic he was talking about I had the same thoughts go through my head for my friends at first, but had decided against it after I found out Lissa had feelings for Christian.
"Ya, it can be hard, but now that you know about me you are more then welcomed to talk to me or Christian about everything." I said with a happier tone.
"Christian? Christian Ozera? He's in this mess to?" He asked me surprised.
"Yep, he's a Moroi that hates everything about it."
"Now that is something I thought I would never hear." He said laughing.
I joined in with his laughter and decided to sit and make myself comfortable.
"Anything else you want to talk about tonight?" I asked him.
Dimitri looked down at me and smiled. "Yes actually a lot."
And with that he sat down beside me. We talked for a couple of hours about anything and everything. Just opening right up to each other. We talked about our entire experiences being stuck as part of our cults, starting from how we had joined to the latest news about what was happening."
"I heard one of higher ups in my group say we were going to join up with the first division in the city because we haven't had any new recruits lately and our numbers aren't enough to do most spells we need to for the Dhampir's to be able to do magic still. They weren't sure if it was a permanent thing or temporary thing though." He said after a lull in our talking.
"How many divisions are there in our city?" I asked shocked.
"I'm not sure, honestly. I think our marks has something to do with which one your in though. My guess would be each line is to represent a number, so you being in the first with only one line…"
"And you would be the second because of your two lives." I said.
He nodded at me murmuring a yes. I turned and looked at him. Our eyes met for a moment, and it was like I could see every emotion he was feeling just from his eyes. I found myself drawn to him, like he was wanting me to sort out all his emotions and understand what he was trying to say. Before I knew it I found both of us Leaning towards each other barely two inches apart, staring at the other. After another moment my lips became dry and I stuck my tongue out slightly to lick them, while still staring and watching him. His eyes looked down and followed the movement then brought his eyes to meet mine again. This time when I looked in his eyes I saw something new at the forefront, something I knew what it was but couldn't place my finger on where I knew it from, or why I liked him looking at me with it so much.
"Rose…" He said his voice sounding a little deeper and his accent coming out stronger.
"Well…um… I better get going. Ah ... see you at school." I said as I pulled away from him.
I stood up and started to head back towards the road so I could go home.
"Wait." Dimitri said as he grabbed my arm stopping me from walking farther. "Let me walk you home, it's pretty late out."
I felt the need to point out that he really didn't need to walk me home because of my magic, but instead just nodded and started walking again, this time with Dimitri beside me. It was quiet while we walked it had gotten late then I realised while we were talking as most of the families that had been at the park had left and the streets were almost empty.
"You know you being in, what did you call them? The mystics?" I asked as Dimitri looked over at me, when we got about half way back to my house.
"Yes, that's what my group calls our selves. A little pretentious if you ask me." He said with a slight chuckle.
"Ya, a little. But it makes more sense now with you being apart of them. You've had all the girls in the school basically tossing themselves at you, and yet you have rejected every single one. It makes sense now, with the meets that happen all the time, and not wanting to rope anyone else into this mess." I said looking a head.
"Yes, it has gotten a little annoying that most of them haven't taken the hint yet. I've turned I think about ninety percent of them down at least once if not some of them two or three times."
I laughed a little. "Oh, I can imagen. You are the biggest talk about right now at school about who you are going to take as your date. Which that to now makes sense as to why you haven't picked one yet. It's cause you can't go to it, it's on the night of our usual meetings, providing we all meet on the same days." I said.
"You would be right in saying that." He said smiling slightly at me. "It feels so good to have someone to talk to about this."
"You didn't have anyone else from your group you could talk to? Someone at least close to our age?"
"I had one, he was my best friend. His name was Ivan. We were inseparable, but he tried to leave without telling me, and well you know the repercussions of trying to leave." He said solemnly.
I simply nodded and we kept walking. The rest of the walk was silent until we got to the end of my driveway.
"Well, this is me. Goodnight Dimitri, I'll see you at school on Monday." I said Turning to walk up to my house.
"Wait again…" He said with a little chuckle in his voice. "I keep doing that to you today don't I? Well anyway I wanted to give you something." He said shyly.
"Oh, what?" I asked really curious.
"This" He put his hand in his pocket and pulled out a beautiful pink Peony.
"Oh Dimitri, it's beautiful! But you know you aren't supposed to use magic in public. Someone could have seen." I said slightly panicked.
"No one was watching Rose, it's fine. Also, it's only fitting that a beautiful flower be given to a beautiful girl. Though the flower isn't nearly as beautiful as you."
Hearing him say that brought a blush to my face. I took the flower from him and put it up to my nose smelling it. Just when I pulled the flower away to say thank you, I felt Dimitri's fingers on the underside of my chin, pulling my face up to meet his eyes. Slowly Dimitri started to lean down towards me, but just when I thought he was going to kiss me he turns his head to the side of mine and kisses my check. The kiss only lasted a second before he pulled away and released my chin, dropping his hand back to his side.
"Oh, ah ... I ah… I should get in. My aunt is probably getting worried about me. I'll ah… I'll see you later… Dimitri." I said backing away towards the door slowly.
"See you later Roza." He said with a loving smirk on his face.
"Hey, that…That's not my name. Why did you call me that?."
"What do you mean that is what everyone calls you because you don't like your name, right?" He asked confused.
"Yes, I don't like my full name, but what does Roza mean? That's not what everyone calls me."
He chuckled a little bit and smirked again. "It's your name in Russian. I'll see you later Roza."
"Bye." I said then turned and headed in the door.
