"Rain, wake up a sec." A voice from nowhere. Deep breath, open eyes. "Timesit?" Yes, that was totally a sentence. Eddie's face hovered above me, morning breath and all. "It's 9, are you working today?" He looked concerned. My brain took a second to catch up, "no, I'm off Sundays and Tuesdays...well Sundays and Mondays now I guess." Remembering that Robin and I were switching from today. Relief flooded Eddie's face, "good, back to sleep then!" He started turning, I propped myself up to see a pillow and blanket on the floor, so he had slept down there, huh. "Hey - come here." I whispered, knowing his Uncle was probably sleeping too. Eddie wandered back to the bed, laying down next to me, "I'll admit this is nicer than the floor" he smirked. My eyes were already drooping and sleep was tugging me back, "stay there." I think I managed to say. Before I fully reentered deep sleep I felt Eddie's arm circling around me. Blink, blink again, swallow, yawn. A weight on my waist. I looked down and saw Eddie's arm so I turned to face him. Above his head I saw his alarm clock blinking, 11:30am. Eddie was still sleeping, seeing him like that made me feel fuzzy inside, his features were so soft and pretty. Even with the blooming bruise on his cheek and the marks on his neck. I traced my fingers lightly on his wounds, trying not to let anger bubble in my stomach that would end in pummelling Patrick's face myself. "This is a nice way to wake up." Eddie was suddenly awake and I flinched in surprise. Aware that my breath probably stunk, I kept my lips fastened and just smiled. Reading me like a book, Eddie pushed himself up and off the bed, rummaging round in one of his drawers, lifting a new toothbrush in its packaging. "Bought a new one the other day, you can use it" he waved it at me and I nodded gratefully. "You can take a shower if you want, my uncle sleeps like the dead so you won't wake him." Eddie held a towel out to me, which I took.
In the bathroom I cranked on the shower, feeling the water jolting me awake with every splash. I rinsed my hair and lathered the soap that smelled just like Eddie all over my body. As droplets trickled down my face I recounted the events from early this morning. I kissed him. He kissed me. He asked me out. I said yes. A grin was fighting to break out on my face when I stepped out and began towelling myself off. Brushing my teeth, I saw Eddie's toothbrush, yeah he definitely needed a new one, I'd better buy him another. I shoved Eddie's clothes back on and re-entered the bedroom, Eddie was making his bed, something I'm certain he didn't do every other day. "Do you know where my clothes from yesterday are?" I asked, Eddie snapped his head up and said "under my jacket, just there." I held my clothes to my chest, Eddie brushed his hand against my waist as he passed me to use the bathroom. Whilst he was showering I put the clothes on, dousing myself in Eddie's cologne to make them smell better. "Rain, you there? Over." The radio crackled on Eddie's small desk. "Yeah, you guys just up?" I asked Mike. "Yup, you still at Eddie's? Nancy called from Vicky's - vicky's mom is driving her back to Linda's to pick up her car. Then she'll come pick us up. Told me she called your mom last night and said you were with them at Vicky's." I slapped my forehead, once again I'd forgotten to let my mother know where I was. Thank god for Nancy, even when she was wasted she knew how to lie to parents. "Cool, I'll head to Max's soon, thanks Mike." The shower turned off, then I heard Eddie turning the door knob. I sat at his desk, glancing over the drawings and new lyrics he'd left out. "Did I hear mini Wheeler, or am I having auditory hallucinations?" Eddie's voice carried over to me, I swung my head towards it and saw him standing by the bed in just a towel. Shit. Do I look? Am I supposed to look? We hadn't even gone on a date yet. No, don't look. I averted my gaze to the window behind me and heard Eddie chuckle, "I'll change quick, hang on." A few moments later Eddie climbed over his bed and crouched down beside me. I caught his eyes in mine, damn his lashes were so much better than mine. "That was Mike, Nancy's on her way to pick us all up." I leaned my head against the back of the chair. Eddie tilted his head to close the gap between us, kissing me once. "I have hellfire at 5, usually ends by 9, or 10 at a push. Can I call you before then? Arrange this date?" He spoke softly.
I bit my lip to hide the grin that wanted to reappear, "Sure, call me around 3." I kissed him again and he rubbed small circles into my knee, setting it on fire. I could feel my stomach about to grumble and pulled away, "got any food I could steal?" Eddie nodded and led me to the kitchen, where he rooted around in the cupboard and pulled out pop-tarts. I fished a banana from the fridge too, and we ate together on the couch, knees touching. "I have a few hours to come up with the best first date ever. Easy peasy." Eddie said with his mouth full. I chuckled and said, "not a big task or anything." There was a rattling on the trailer door. Eddie jumped up and opened it, I heard Mike and Dustin on the other side, "hey man, shit you look rough." I walked over to the door too, Mike looked at me with a strange expression, "Nancy's here, we gotta go." I nodded and told them to give me a sec, Dustin began trying to enter the trailer, but Eddie shook his head. Behind the closed door, he put his hand to my cheek, and kissed my forehead. I held my hand over his for a moment, "talk to you later Munson." I said as I headed out.
