A Thousand Miles (Just To Be With You)
Caitlin wakes up on Valentine's Day morning alone. She starfished on the bed for a bit before getting up, trying to tell herself that she doesn't feel a little sad and empty at not having Barry home. It's their first Valentine's Day since moving in together and... they'd both wanted it to be special.
Barry had a work convention out of state that week, however, and he was supposed to have flown back the night before. Unfortunately, bad weather in Utah meant no Barry to warm Caitlin's bed this morning. He was supposed to be flying back in this morning, though. Assuming the snow storm had let up enough to let the runways get cleared and the plane schedules resume. But there was no messages on her phone, so if he'd caught a flight then she had no idea what time he'd be in.
She's pondering the question of breakfast when there comes a knocking at her door. And, well, knowing Barry there is a distinct possibility he sent her flowers in lieu of being able to make it home on time himself.
After a quick self inspection to make sure she's presentable enough to open a door despite being in her pajamas and bathrobe, Caitlin answers the door.
It is not a flower delivery man who stands there. Though there are flowers. And donuts. And coffee. Possibly kolaches too. Most importantly, though, there's a Barry standing there with his hands too full to reach his keys.
"Barry!" Caitlin grinned and took the flowers and the coffee from him, ushering her boyfriend inside their apartment. "You made it after all. How'd you manage that? I thought the snow storm over Salt Lake City was supposed to last well into this morning."
"Well, it let up enough to allow driving, so I took a bus to Nevada which was... a long drive. But thankfully a safe one. And then I flew out from an airport there. Which I then had to change flights in Kansas and I'm so glad I had carry on because I have no doubt I'd have lost my luggage otherwise. But... I'm home. And exhausted so I might fall asleep on you soon." Barry grinned tiredly as he stuck the box of donuts (and possibly kolaches) on their kitchen counter. "A journey well worth it to be home with you this morning."
"I love you, Barry Allen," Caitlin said, drawing Barry into a kiss. "Speaking of your luggage..."
"It's still in the trunk of the car. I'll get it later."
With how rarely Barry used that car, Caitlin figured she'd better fetch it herself after breakfast, while Barry snoozed. Otherwise he'd forget about it.
"There's something really important I wanted to do today, though. And I don't want to waste a minute getting to it," Barry continued. And then he dropped to one knee, pulling a small box out of his pocket.
Caitlin's breath caught in her throat. The box popped open to display a beautiful opal engagement ring, Caitlin's favorite stone. Prettier than diamonds, in her opinion, given the gorgeous range of colors.
"You are the sunlight that brightens my every day. Caitlin Snow, will you marry me?"
"Yes," Caitlin replied, her voice cracking just a little. She beamed as Barry slid the ring onto her finger and then stood up, sweeping Caitlin into his arms and spinning her around.
"And, just as importantly, will you be my Valentine?" Barry asked, setting her down and kissing the tip of her nose.
Caitlin giggled. "I love you. Yes, I'm you're Valentine. I'll always be your Valentine. And you're mine."
"Always," Barry agreed softly. And then yawned.
"To bed with you. And bring the donuts," Caitlin ordered, retrieving their coffee. The flowers, she supposed, could wait for later.
