I keep thinking about his angel eyes

Blaine was sixteen when he first saw Kurt. He was on his way to an impromptu Warblers performance when an angelic voice stopped him in his tracks. The voice belonged to a boy who looked just as angelic as his voice sounded. Beautiful pale skin, chestnut hair swept up in a perfect hairdo, and his eyes. His eyes were the most gorgeous feature on this boy. A mixture of blue that Blaine had never seen before.

His name was Kurt.

Blaine fell in love right then and there. It took him a while for his brain to catch up with his heart.

Without really thinking about what he was doing, Blaine reaches for the boy's hand and leads him down a corridor.

"I know a shortcut," he had told the beautiful boy. It was a lie. The real shortcut was through a secret passageway that only Warblers knew about. Blaine had taken Kurt through a corridor. It took them longer to get there than it would've if they had taken the usual route.

Blaine just wanted an excuse to spend more time with him.

Blaine and Kurt started dating midway through Junior year.

If you asked Blaine, he would say their first kiss was the moment everything changed for him. He knew he would never let Kurt go, no matter what.

Wherever Kurt went, he would follow.

When Kurt transferred back to McKinley, Blaine's heart split in two. Rationally he knew the distance would not affect their relationship. It was only an hour and a half drive. He could easily come visit on the weekends or make the trip to the Lima Bean after school to meet up with Kurt.

It was easier once Kurt found out about Blaine's parents. Blaine's parents were barely, if ever, home.

Blaine had accidentally revealed that he basically lived at Dalton on one of their first dates since Kurt transferred. His revelation led to many questions from Kurt that he couldn't avoid.

He started spending most of his days over at the Hudson-Hummel house.

Senior year was off to a good start. Blaine decided to surprise Kurt by transferring to McKinley. He barely had to beg his parents. They loved Kurt, despite only meeting him once. They had the concern of him going back to public school, but Blaine dismissed it. If Kurt could do it, so could he.

That was the first time he and Kurt went south of the border.

Blaine wanted to punch Sebastian Smythe. He was coming back from the line with his and Kurt's coffee when he heard the insults being thrown at his boyfriend.

Despite Kurt's angelic appearance, the boy had some snark. Blaine was proud of his boy for standing up for himself but was disappointed that he even had to in the first place. Most of all, Blaine was disappointed in himself for not being firmer in telling Sebastian to fuck off.

"Here's your coffee, love." Blaine might have let the endearment slip on purpose. He and Kurt weren't known for the pet names and PDA, but Sebastian doesn't have to know that.

"Thank you, B," comes the angelic reply.

Kurt wraps his arm around Blaine possessively. If Blaine makes it a point to lean into the touch and visibly put his hand on Kurt's knee in a very clear message, no one says anything.

Their first argument is nothing serious. It was just a simple disagreement. Blaine had been spending less time over at Kurt's house, which Kurt mistook as Blaine's way of saying he didn't want to spend time with Kurt anymore.

That wasn't the case. Sam had come back from Kentucky after some coaxing from Finn and Rachel. This meant that Sam was now living with the Hudson-Hummels. Which meant that instead of three teenage boys constantly hanging around the house, being fed and taken care of, the number was now four. Blaine felt like he was taking advantage of Burt and Carole's kindness and therefore decided to spend more time at home.

Kurt wouldn't have any of it. Neither would Burt and Carole.

Blaine went from spending most of his time there to all his time there.

And if he and Kurt started sleeping in the same bed almost every night, well Burt was willing to turn a blind eye if it meant both his boys were happy.

When Blaine woke up in the hospital, the first thing he saw was his boyfriend's beautiful angel eyes. Said eyes were crying, Blaine didn't like that.

"Was goin' on?" Blaine slurred a bit. His brain was fuzzy, he doesn't really know what he's doing here.

"Honey, your cornea was scratched from a slushy laced with rock salt. You had to get surgery," his boyfriend explained. So that was why half of his vision was obscured.

"Kurt's been the perfect angel. He's been sitting by your bedside since they brought you back into the room," a voice sounded from the opposite side of the room. His mom was here.

Kurt blushed at the compliment while Blaine repeated what his mom said in his head. Kurt really was the perfect angel.

From Kurt:

Thank you for the flowers! They're lovely 3

Blaine didn't know what flowers Kurt was referring to. His mind was still a bit fuzzy from the surgery, so he figures he just forgot he sent them.

To Kurt:

You're welcome, my love 3

The messages got progressively weirder after that.

From Kurt:

Thank you for the cards, I miss you 3

Blaine! You didn't have to get me cheesecake!

Can't wait to visit you again! Thank you for the telegram!

Blaine knew something was up. He also knew Valentine's Day was coming up and he was getting off bed rest soon. He hadn't been sending those gifts, but those texts made him realize that he needed to woo Kurt like he once had.

He checked his phone just as a message came in.

From Cedes:

Hey, loverboy. You coming to Sugar's party?

He is now.

Their second argument was progressively worse than the first one. Blaine had been feeling lonelier and lonelier as the months passed by. A few weeks ago, he'd had the realization that Kurt was truly leaving for New York. Leaving him behind.

He began to pull away before he even realized what he was doing.

Pulling away meant observing, which meant observing Kurt, which meant he noticed how attached Kurt's been to his phone recently. In fact, he doesn't think Kurt's smiled this much in the past few weeks.

This time when Kurt asked him to come over, he said yes immediately.

When Kurt left the room to get them movie snacks, he'd left his phone behind. The phone would not stop going off. When Blaine picked it up to see why Kurt's phone kept buzzing, his heart stopped at seeing the messages. Surely his angel wouldn't cheat on him, right?

That night, there were a lot of accusations, a lot of confessions, and a lot of kisses.

Blaine stopped pulling away.

When Kurt left for New York, Blaine swore his heart audibly broke. His boy, his angel had left him. Of course, Blaine knew they would be fine, it didn't mean it hurt any less.

It was all Blaine's fault. He's the one who pushed Kurt into going to New York. He felt terribly guilty that Kurt was stuck in Ohio instead of following his dream, so he had forced his boyfriend to go.

Burt had let him skip school so he could go with them to see Kurt off at the airport. Kurt had kept his promise and refused to say 'goodbye.'

The boys hugged for longer than either of them deemed publicly appropriate but in that moment, it didn't matter. They were stronger than all those other couples looking at them in disgust. Their love ran deeper than the ocean.

When they parted, it was with a sweet kiss. Neither saw Burt wipe a tear away.

"Text me when you land, I love you." Blaine had said.

"I will. I love you too, B." Kurt replied.

And when Kurt turned back before walking through the doors, Blaine saw his beautiful angel eyes shed a tear.

He shed one too.

Things were different with Kurt in New York. Blaine suddenly found himself with a lot of free time, meaning he joined a lot of clubs. He became really good friends with Sam which also meant he still spent all his time over at the Hudson-Hummels. It was a bit weird without Kurt there, but Finn and Sam helped to take his mind off that.

He and Kurt had lost their synchronicity and were struggling to connect the way they once had. Blaine often felt like Kurt didn't have time for him anymore. His calls kept getting declined and his messages would be ignored for days at a time.

Blaine was tempted, so tempted.

He booked a ticket to New York before he even considered what the other option was.

His phone was lying on his bed, the message still on the screen.

From Eli C.

Wanna come over?

If Blaine thought their synchronicity was off when living in different states, it was nothing compared to when he moved into the loft.

It wasn't that he and Kurt's relationship was on the rocks, far from it. They were doing great. It helped that Blaine basically lived with Kurt while they were in high school. No, the problem wasn't them. The problem was the other two people occupying the loft.

Blaine and Kurt were used to sharing their own space. They were so in tune with each other that they didn't even have to speak about dividing up chores or who showers first (Kurt showers first because his face easily breaks out and he needs to rid himself of the day's activities as soon as possible; Blaine joins him later on and finishes the shower by himself while Kurt moisturizes).

The problem was that with so many people occupying the loft, Kurt and Blaine's communication kept getting lost in translation. This led to a few arguments here and there.

Blaine hadn't even noticed it was happening. Their relationship had felt off for a while but neither boy knew why. Until one night when Kurt came home from school and said, "pack a bag. We're going to a hotel."

"What?" Blaine looked up from his homework into his fiancé's beautiful eyes.

"The girls are ruining our relationship. We need a night where it's just you and me, no interruptions. I miss you," his voice had softened toward the end. Oh. That's what felt off. Although the boys were technically spending time together, they hadn't been dedicating time to their relationship.

Blaine wordlessly got up from the couch and packed a bag for two nights.

Blaine was eighty-nine when he last saw Kurt. The boy who had captured his heart all those years ago, was now a withered old face looking tearfully at his own. To Blaine, Kurt will always be that seventeen-year-old who stopped him on that fateful day. Kurt's eyes never changed. They had always remained that beautiful indescribable color. Those eyes that he had looked into when they first met were staring back at him now, tearfully.

As Blaine takes his last breath, he whispers to Kurt: "you're my angel."

Kurt smiles, "you're mine too."

Kurt's angel eyes were the last image Blaine saw before darkness surrounded him.
