What is wrong with everyone? I thought, walking home holding my notebook with hero notes that got burnt. Woah, it's this late already? I thought, looking up as the sky was dark. "Crap, I gotta get home," I said, starting to jog. Luckily no one will yell at me when I get there. I lost my mom a year ago, and with her I lost the only person in my corner and part of my quirk. My dad left me to the wolves and I just lived in a tiny apartment by myself. I walked by an alley and noticed two pop bottles falling from the sky and bursting, sending a bunch of slime all over the place.
"Hey boy, thanks for the body suit," a growly voice said as the slime formed up into a roughly humanoid shape.
"Huh?" I asked as the slime flew at me and started to shove itself down my throat. C-crap, is this how I die? I thought. No, I guess I gotta use it. Persona! I thought as blue flames covered my face fading as a mask appeared on my face. It was a black and white domino mask that spiked out to the sides. "Lucifer," I said, as the Fallen Angel floated behind me dissipated along with my mask.
"While I should yell at a bad boy like you for illegal use of a quirk," a sultry voice said behind me. "I'll let you pass since it was in self defense," the R-18 Hero: Midnight said, as I turned to see her.
"I-I'm so sorry, I-I didn't know what to do," I stuttered.
"Hey, since it's just you I'll drop the R-18," she said. "You're fine. I won't yell at you or anything. With a fire quirk like that you'll do great in the future if you want to be a hero."
"I actually don't have a fire quirk. It's odd," I said.
"Explain," Midnight requested.
"Um, it'll take a long time," I said.
"Alright, tomorrow after school go to LeBlanc, it's just a few blocks away. You'll see me and then you can explain," she said. "For now, you can wait for an ambulance, and maybe help me find a way to keep this guy in one place," she added, looking at the slime.
"He was in pop bottles that fell," I said. "Maybe you can put him in some again?"
"That's not too bad of an idea," Midnight said. "I'll be back, best to not try to use your quirk again," she added, strutting off.
"This just got complicated," I thought, sitting down. I blinked and I was in a chair in the ever amazing cinema that was the Velvet Room.
"Heheh, don't worry Trickster, you'll do fine. It's not like you have to keep this place a secret," Elizabeth said, walking up to me wearing her normal dark blue dress.
"But don't forget your job," Margret said, walking up behind her sister and taking a seat in the chair across from me.
"Yeah I know," I sighed, putting my head in my hands.
"Izuku, you're back, should I go get Igor?" Lavenza asked, walking up as well.
"No, just, I got caught using it," I said.
"Remember, this is your power. You use it when you see fit," Marie said, walking up.
"You're all so kind to me," I said. "Still, I used the Devil, I said I wouldn't use the power I got from others, it's the same as stealing."
"Well, you should go back before things really get awkward," Elizabeth said.
"Yeah, see you all later," I said, leaving the Velvet Room. I looked around and saw Midnight walking up tossing me a bottle of water.
"Drink up," she said, downing her own bottle. "Also, what's your name?"
"Izuku Midoriya, thanks," I said, downing the bottle I was given.
We then worked on putting the slime into the bottles.
"So, what kind of quirk is it, can you tell me that?" Midnight asked.
"Um," I said, as a police car and ambulance pulled up. "Tomorrow?"
"Alright, just remember," she said, winking.
The ambulance gave me a quick look over and after saying I wasn't injured I was free to go home. I walked back and immediately went to sleep. I didn't visit the Velvet Room as I didn't want to and woke up refreshed in the morning. I went to school and noted that everyone was treating me a little differently but not too much which confused me. I went to where I was attacked after school and after a few minutes of looking around found LeBlanc. I walked in and was greeted by an older gentleman.
"I'm guessing you're the kid Kayama warned me about," the older gentleman said. I noticed his name tag said Sojiro Futaba.
"Um," I said.
"There you are," a voice I recognized said. I looked to see Midnight in civilian clothes but her face was recognizable and she was sitting in a booth towards the back.
"H-hi," I stuttered.
"Come sit with me and you can tell me about your quirk," she said.
"Alright," I sighed. Here goes nothing. I thought, sitting down across from her.
"So, you said it wasn't a fire quirk," she said.
"The name of my quirk is Wild Card, apparently it's an old quirk that gets passed down randomly to someone after the previous user dies. I make bonds with people and get different powers and access to a mental place called the Velvet Room," I started. "The bonds I make are based off of the Major Arcana in tarot readings," I added, pulling out my tarot deck.
"How many bonds do you have?" she asked.
"I had two, but my mom died so I'm down to one bond. I use these bonds to call Personas, depending on the bond and the person the Persona will be different. The attendants in the Velvet Room told me that the previous Wild Cards had allies who boosted their bonds. They refer to me as the Trickster."
"So, what is the bond you have?" Midnight asked.
"Currently I have two Personas because I represent number zero; the Fool," I said, pulling the card out and showing it to her. "I got my second one from my friend, number fifteen; the Devil," I said, pulling that card.
"The fool means new beginnings, innocence, foolishness, and wonder when upright, and in reverse being naive, recklessness, and taken advantage of," she said, reading off of her phone. "The devil means materialism, playfulness, pleasure, and addiction and in reverse means freedom, release, and restoring control. What did you get from your mother if you don't mind me asking?"
"My mom was number three; the Empress. It means beauty, fertility, nurturing, luxury, and creativity with the reverse meaning smothering, excess, and selfishness," I said, having memorized most of the meanings.
"Wow, why do you have that memorized?"
"I occasionally will set up a small table on the street and offer readings. My quirk doesn't give me any way of making sure they're right or anything but I still like doing it," I said, putting the cards back and shuffling them a bit.
"Can you do one for me?" she asked, smiling.
"Alright," I said, taking out my black cloth and setting it down. "Want just a basic one?"
"Sure," she said.
I shuffled the cards and set them down before cutting it and placing the first card down revealing the three of swords reversed.
"You are working on recovery from an event in the past and moving on from it," I said, drawing a conclusion from the meaning. I then put the second card out revealing the ace of pentacles upright. "You have an opportunity in front of you that you should take." I then flipped the last card and froze for a second as it was the Empress upright. "I think this one speaks for itself," I said, smirking a bit as to what it means and who I was giving the reading to.
"Your reading I would say is perfectly on point," she smirked.
"What?" I asked.
"I am dealing with a loss and recovering from it, I certainly see and opportunity in front of me," she said, looking into my eyes. "And, I think there's a bit more to the last one than you think."
"Huh?"
"You see, I looked to see your medical records and you are a ward of the state as of now, but you are listed as quirkless. I've read about a person with a quirk exactly like yours, but it's put off as a myth. The state doesn't want to acknowledge your quirk as real as it would mess up the system they put in place and make you a threat to them. As a hero I can take control of any ward of the state and put them under my care. Do you see where I'm going with this?" she asked.
"Um, maybe?"
"You can become my ward and I will not only train you, but give you a path into UA's hero course," she said.
"R-really?" I asked, my gray eyes looking into her blue ones.
"Yes, really," she said, ruffling my black and dark purple hair.
"Thank you," I said, looking at her.
I am thou, thou art I.
Thou hast acquired a lost vow.
It shall become the shield of hope
That smashes the chains innocent's fear.
With the rebirth of the Empress Persona
Thou hath obtained power of heroes that
shall lead to bravery and new strength…
"What was that?" Midnight asked.
"I-I just regained the Empress Persona," I said, stunned. "Basically, you're now a confidant for me in a sense that as my bond with you grows so will the power of the Persona I just gained will."
"Oh, so what's the name of the Persona?" she asked.
"I don't know until I summon it and forge a contract, and I'd rather not in the middle of a coffee shop," I said.
"Well then, we can go somewhere you can. Come follow me," she said, standing up and leaving some cash.
I quickly got up and followed her. We got on a train and got off at a station I knew was near UA, then it hit me.
"A-are you taking me to U-UA?" I asked.
"Yes, classes are out and I know the perfect gym, I also want a couple of my co-workers to come see this too," she said, walking up to the UA gates and letting me in.
We walked into a gym where the ground was dirt or something like it. Before me stood a man and a mouse.
"Hello Mrs. Kayama, do you mind me asking why you brought the kid with the Wild Card quirk here?" the mouse asked.
"Wait, how do you know what my quirk is?" I asked.
"You aren't the only one who has access to Personas," he said, smiling.
"What?" I asked.
"What he means is, there's more than one Wild Card, you aren't the first student we've had that uses this quirk. There's normally no more than three at once and they have different abilities," the man with long hair and a white scarf sighed.
"Wait, then why is it not allowed to be known when you three already know about it?" I asked.
"Kayama and I went to school with a kid who was a Wild Card. We weren't close but he disappeared out second year," the man said. "We already knew about his quirk and the basics of summoning Personas but not much more than that."
"I've always been curious on how it's like to make a vow with a Persona," the mouse said.
"Alright, quick warning, I'm going to look like I'm in pain, and realistically I will be, but don't do anything," I said, walking out to the open gym. "Hrgk," I grunted as pain flared through my body.
"Ah, so now you can hear me, my prodigal son? Learn to control the birthright that was taken from you and make it yours. I am thou, thou art I. Let us forge the future of this world as a family," a female voice said in my head.
"Rebekah!" I yelled, as blue flames appeared and I looked up to see a woman in flowing ancient red and white robes with a hide of a beast over her arm.
"Who is this?" the man asked.
"Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau who helped her youngest son trick his father into giving him his brother's birthright," I said, the knowledge coming to me.
"Incredible, will you be able to show us what she can do?" the mouse asked.
"Sure," I said. "Rebekah, hide of the beast," I commanded. She lifted up the hide on her arm causing me to be protected. "Punch me with all your might," I smiled.
"Alright kid, but remember you asked for this," the tired man said, walking up. He pulled back and punched me as I put my hands up blocking it. "What? Most of my students would have a broken bone after that," he remarked.
"Really Aizawa, do you have no control?" Midnight asked.
"Can you show us your other Personas?" the mouse asked.
"Alright," I said, dismissing Rebekah. "Do you want to see the Devil or Fool?"
"Let's go with the Devil," the mouse smiled.
"Alright," I said. "Lucifer." A man with black raven-like wings on his back wearing a black suit and blue lines and tie on appeared out of blue flames. His hair was combed back and his burning yellow eyes looked at me. "Hell flame." A roar of bright red fire appeared in Lucifer's hand and was flung across the room exploding into a roaring inferno. I then dismissed him. "Can I take a quick break? Summoning them back to back kinda takes it out of me. I've figured I'll only have one fight until I can build up my stamina," I explained.
"Go right ahead," the mouse said.
"Thanks, I don't think I got your name," I said, sitting on the ground.
"Ah, how foolish of me. I'm Nezu, the principal of UA," he said.
"W-w-wait, the p-principal?" I asked, amazed that I'd been talking to someone with his status.
"Don't worry about it, I do have to ask though. Are all your Persona's biblical characters?" Principal Nezu asked.
"No, my personal one, the Fool, is different. The last Empress one I had was from my mom and it was Gothel," I said.
"Ah, just curious," he said.
After a few minutes of silence I stood up and went back to the middle.
"Alright, this is mine, the fool," I sighed. "Kitsune," I said, as a beautiful woman with two white fox ears and nine tails appeared from the normal flames.
"I was wondering when I was going to be summoned master," she said.
"Wait, your Persona's can talk?" Aizawa asked, amazed.
"Only she can," I sighed.
"Awe, is master embarrassed to have a sexy girl like me as a slave?" she asked, swinging the chain on her neck along with her chest.
"Bye," I said, sending her back. "That's why I don't like summoning her. She's the strongest one I have so far but annoying. She primarily uses fire and illusions," I explained.
"Why is she like that, are Persona's really slaves?" Midnight asked.
"They might as well be," I said. "They're spirits that exist thanks to the world's cognition, that I gain and use to fight."
"Well, this is amazing information. Now, can you go to the place I've been told about, the Velvet Room I believe Ren called it," the principal asked.
"Sure, but I'm not sure you can come with me," I said.
"They are being given permission," Margret said, walking in.
"Margret?" I asked, amazed that she was out.
"I was requested to lead you to the physical entrance to the Velvet Room so you may know about it and enter at will, not when called," she explained. "While you can know about it, if you do not possess a Persona you may not enter without the Trickster leading you," she added, looking at the others.
"Alright, how did you get on the grounds and why didn't the alarms go off?" Aizawa asked.
"I used Ren's access point to the Velvet Room which was on the campus."
"It's alright, I remember him telling me of you," the principal said. "You are Margret correct?"
"Yes, I was his attendant before he vanished," Margret said. "Now then, follow me," she said, walking out.
She led us down to the train station and down an alley where a door was. She opened it and it led to the Velvet Room.
"Hello there Trickster," Igor said.
"Hey Igor," I said, greeting the man who's helped me figure out my quirk.
"So, this is the Velvet Room? Ren said it was more like a prison," the principal said.
"The Velvet Room changes depending on the Wild Card. When Ren would visit then it would look like a prison, whereas if one of the other Wild Cards that are out there visit us it will look like a limou. If a group of Wild Cards visit at once then it takes on one of my favorite forms," Igor laughed.
"Oh, I would love to see this version at some point," the principal laughed too.
"Dear lord," Aizawa sighed.
"Izuku!" Lavenza yelped, dropping the book she was caring.
"Haha," Elizabeth laughed at her sister.
"Sh-shut up!" Lavenza yelled at her.
"Guys, meet Elizabeth and Lavenza, Margret's younger sisters," I said. "Where's Marie?"
"Hey," she said, walking out from the theater room.
"Were you writing another poem about love?" I asked, walking up to her and looking at the paper she was holding.
"What are you talking about, I don't write poems," she said.
"Yeah you do, you've let me read them before," I said.
"Oh, poems about love?" Midnight asked.
"No!" Marie said, looking at her.
"Marie, why are you l-," I started before being punched in the gut.
"ShutupIhateyouyoustupidjerk!" she yelled, turning and running back in.
"Obviously you're the only females he's been around," Midnight said, looking at the siblings.
"Yeah, not too many girls like him since he has to be weak during school," Elizabeth said.
"Why do you have to be mean to me like that?" I asked.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say you are weak just that if you show what Wild Card does for you you would get in trouble," Elizabeth apologized.
"You made him feel bad again!" Lavenza said, walking towards me just to trip and fall. "Owie."
"Why are my sisters unprofessional?" Margret asked.
"I've been wondering about that about my co-workers for years," Aizawa sighed.
"Anyways, I was curious if you know what happened to young Ren," Nezu asked Igor.
"Well, he's alive but his connection to the Metaverse is splintered," Igor said.
"Metaverse?" most of us asked.
"Nothing that will concern you Trickster, not for another year when you turn fifteen," Igor said.
"Wait, he's fourteen?" Midnight asked.
"Yes, now, are there any more questions?" Igor asked.
"I have one, will this quirk be good for hero work?" Aizawa asked.
"Of course, it will make him the greatest," Igor said.
"That is all, we shall take our leave now," the principal said, walking back out.
"See you guys," I said, following the rest out.
"Alright, we will fill out the paperwork for Kayama to be your legal guardian then we will contact you about our plan for your schooling and training," the principal said, grinning.
"Alright, well, while they work on that, why don't we get to know each other a little more?" Midnight asked.
"Alright, a-are you sure you want to take guardianship of me?" I asked.
"Po-si-tive," she said. "Now let's go," she added, leading me out of the alley.
We took a train to where my apartment was so she could know how much stuff I had to bring to her house. She told me her name was Nemuri Kayama and that she lives near UA and I'd be moving in with her along with going to a middle school by UA so that way I won't have to travel far for classes. We then decided to go get my quirk registry fixed by saying that my quirk was called Trickster since that's what everyone in the Velvet Room called me. Little did I know that this one act would flip my world upside down even more.
Midnight POV-
"I know what you're thinking," Shota said.
"You won't stop me?" I asked.
"He's not your son. He grew up with his mother, he said that himself."
"I know but you can't deny that he looks just like him," I said.
"You gave him up when we were in UA, he might be the same age and have a couple of traits you kid had, but it's not him."
"Also the first name, and he was born the same time Ren went missing and gained the same quirk," I said. "These are a lot of things, too many to consider them coincidences."
"Just don't let it eat you thinking about it," Aizawa sighed, walking out of the lounge.
AN-
So… I've been playing Persona 4 Golden after playing Persona 5 Royal and after the last crap show that was my attempt at MHAxP5 thought I'd give it another try. This is my idea on how to include this as a "quirk" while there's a bit more to it. I will say Izuku does have a quirk but it's not what you think it is. He will not be getting OFA or AFO and they will be a background story for a while(I think) and won't be getting name dropped for some time. Also, Izuku doesn't look like canon. He has gray eyes with curly black and dark purple hair and is taller and thinner and looks similar to the P5 protagonist. Quick thing I also thought of, Ren is not Ren Akira and isn't the P5 protagonist, he's an OC from a different universe of mine with no powers so I said he was the Wild Card not thinking about P5 Animation. Now then, thanks for reading and remember to follow, favorite, comment, and kudos! Link Out!
