Happy Valentine's Day!
Iroh II is aged down. He's the same age as Mako and Asami.
Valentine's Day was fast approaching, and two brothers who lived in Republic City were preparing for it. Well, for now, only one of them had a girlfriend, and the other was hoping to get his first date.
It was a Friday afternoon and Mako and Bolin just got home from work. Mako, the taller and thinner brother, was wearing his police uniform. His younger brother Bolin was wearing a dress shirt and a tie. Valentine's Day was on Monday, and both of them were about to share what they were going to do. They walked into their apartment.
"Well, I'm going to take Korra to dinner at Kwong's Cuisine, then I'll take her to the Aang Memorial Park. At nighttime, there's gonna be a ton of heart-shaped lights," said Mako.
"I'm gonna text Opal later and see if she wants to play with me on my Minecraft world. I built a teashop in my creative world," said Bolin.
"You mean the city that you've shown the Beifongs?"
"Yeah. But we haven't been on that world for a few months. Opal hasn't seen a lot of things. I'm sure she'll love it."
"A Minecraft date? That sounds like fun. Maybe she'll be willing to go long-distance with you. I hope that goes well. I'm sure she'll enjoy it and I'm optimistic that she likes you back."
"I hope you enjoy your date too. The food at Kwong's will make a dent in your wallet."
"I don't think it will hurt my budget that much."
Both brothers changed their clothes. Bolin was a bit exhausted, yet he was energized at getting home. Maybe the walking and the bus ride helped him with that.
He had been adjusting to his paid internship. The twenty-one-year-old was in his fourth year of university studying Computer Science, and his internship involved cybersecurity, as that was the area that he wanted to narrow down into. Thanks to his internship, he was going to spend a total of five years at school.
Mako had turned twenty-three earlier in the month. He had been working for the Republic City Police Department for a while now and was enjoying it, even though on the outside, he seemed serious. He genuinely enjoyed his job, which was why he worked hard and often acted serious. Mako thought he was partially influenced by his boss, Chief Lin Beifong. Now that he's home, it was a time for Mako's more laid-back side to kick in
While he cooked dinner, he turned on the living room TV. The living room was right next to the kitchen. He turned on YouTube to watch basketball highlights. He picked a video where the Zaofu Badgermoles, which was his favorite team, were playing the Caldera Dragons. The game was played last Monday and the Badgermoles won. He spent time cooking and watching, but the excitement of having a Valentine's Day date with Korra also occupied his mind. They had been going strongly for six years now, and he hoped in the back of his mind that they would become a more serious relationship, and, in a few years, he would propose to her.
Mako finished cooking and sat on the couch. While he was watching more videos, he thought about a funny time in his life during high school. When he was a sophomore, Korra was a freshman, and her best friend Asami was a sophomore. During that time, Mako had figured out that they were both attracted to him, but he didn't pay much attention to it. He had to admit that he felt a little bit of attraction to both of their personalities. While Korra was loud, had a competitive spirit, and enjoyed video games and sports, Asami was more elegant and was a genius when it came to math and science.
In the end, Mako ended up dating Korra, and it turns out that Asami liked Mako's best friend Iroh. Iroh was now a Firebender in the United Forces Army. Currently, he was stationed at the army base in Republic City while Asami was finishing her fifth and last year at university. They started dating not long after Iroh moved to Republic City and later became a citizen. Fortunately, Iroh was able to see her frequently, though he didn't have a long Christmas break and was unable to go to Zaofu with Asami. Iroh had to spend Christmas with the other soldiers at the base.
Bolin was in their shared bedroom using the gaming PC. He was going to stream himself playing League of Legends. Although he preferred to upload pre-recorded videos, he also liked to stream and talk to his audience. He would stream for about an hour to 90 minutes. He thought about what his audience would want. Bolin didn't enjoy watching streams that went for 2 hours or more. With those 2 hours, he'd rather watch a movie.
Before he started the stream, he texted Opal and asked if she wanted to play some games with him on Monday. He didn't explicitly say it was a date because he was a bit worried about the outcome. She sent a text back saying that she'd love to play with him. Bolin smiled as he read the text, before turning on his stream on YouTube.
Bolin had been making YouTube videos since he got his first gaming PC at the age of thirteen. He mostly made videos of himself playing Minecraft and League of Legends. Later, he also started playing Total War: The Four Nations. He also had non-gaming videos. Those videos were either vlogs or videos where he explained the workouts and diets that he has done. He also made a few videos of him playing the flute.
While playing and talking, he thought about Opal and the time he visited her and the Beifong family in Zaofu during Christmas. Many times, he would be thinking about the time he spent there.
Bolin had a crush on Opal since he was eleven and she was ten. They had met six years prior to that, though. As time changed, so did his feelings. As both of them grew, Bolin understood better the feelings that he felt. Though he had also been attracted to Korra while he was in middle school, his feelings for Opal were stronger.
Unlike his older brother, Bolin wasn't as interested in the dating game for a while. Mako started dating Korra when he was a junior and she was a sophomore in high school. Bolin was surprised at his brother, because he always saw Mako as a person who was serious about academics, basketball, and his friendships, and he didn't think that Mako would also be willing to get into a relationship during high school. Nevertheless, he was happy for his brother and his friend.
Bolin was more focused on academics, basketball, and band while he was in high school. The rest of his spare time was spent building his YouTube channel and other social media profiles. He figured that it would be too much and that teenage relationships aren't like what you see in high school. Mako and Korra were an exception, with their relationship getting more serious as they got older. Bolin found academics, friendships, and learning more important than pursuing a crush, but now, he felt like it was time for him to make his move. He had no regrets about going to university abroad and being separated from Opal for a while.
As he got older, he got better at understanding why he liked Opal. He was thinking and analyzing while talking during his stream. He was reading at the comments on his secondary monitor and laughed as he saw one of the more recent ones.
"UltraInstinctGamer says, 'You and Opal play together so well and have a really good connection. There's no way you two are just friends'", Bolin read the comment out loud with a laugh.
UltraInstinctGamer was one of Bolin's top viewers who regularly joined his stream and watched most of his videos. That YouTuber also followed Bolin's Instagram account where he posted pictures of his art.
He was used to those comments of his viewers thinking there was something going on between him and Opal. Bolin wasn't sure if he wanted to tell his audience about his Valentine's Day plans. He was going on a date with Opal where he was going to confess his feelings. He was going to confess privately, and hopefully do a stream with her where he was going to reveal the fact that he and Opal were technically in a relationship. He wanted to confess and get the truth out of the way, believing that he was ready to start dating once Opal graduated from university. She planned on moving to Republic City.
Bolin ended the stream after 90 minutes. He then ate dinner with Mako. While he was getting ready to go to sleep, he thought about the upcoming date, and wondering if going long-distance was a good idea. He had been able to keep long-distance friendships with Opal and her brothers Wing and Wei. What difference would a relationship make? Bolin didn't know that. If he were to date, he would intend to go for a serious relationship, and he was sure Opal thought the same thing. Years of crushing on her were hopefully going to be worth it. He hoped they were both mature enough for a relationship.
Bolin thought Opal was quite mature by now. She was twenty and was quite responsible at school. Outside of that, she was also working on her social media profiles. The Health Science student at Genji University had been doing a paid internship at a hospital last semester, but now she started a new semester and was studying.
