Chapter 52 Ballonlea Gym Battle Part 2
Alice is the next one to challenge, and because the questions are basically the same, so Alice manages to swiftly get past the audition and head towards the stadium.
Opal says, "Ah, you're here, Alice, my child. Like the previous one, you also lack the color pink."
"It is fine, I am not interested in a Gym Leader. After all, my mother is already one and she also uses Fairy Type." Alice says.
"I like your answer, now let's see if you can handle my Pokemon." Opal says as she goes with Aromatisse. Alice goes for Salazzle for her first Pokemon.
"Salazzle, let's go with Sludge Wave!" Alice commands, and Salazzle spits out the wave of poison and causes Aromatisse to get poisoned. Aromatisse goes with Sweet Kiss, causing the Pokemon to be confused.
"Question! All righty then... How old am I?" Opal asks.
Alice is confused at the sudden question, and she asks, "Um...88?"
"Well, you're not wrong. But you could've been a little more sensitive." Opal says, and much to her surprise, the Defense Stats and Special Defense stats are lowered.
"Now this is not good..." Alice mutters, and fortunately for her, Salazzle snaps out of confusion and lands the Poison Fang, leaving the Pokemon poisoned, and then both of them are knocked out at the same time because of Aromatisse's Psychic attack and poison's effect.
"My second Pokemon is this." Opal sends out a Wigglytuff, and Alice sends out Centiskorch for this one. Wigglytuff goes for the Sing attack, causing Centiskorch to fall asleep, and Opal asks, "Question! You might know this one for sure, how many grandchildren do I have?"
Alice asks, "That's easy. You have 8."
Opal sighs, "That is my sister, not me. I don't actually have grandchildren...Or I'll just give it the gym leader title."
As Centiskorch's Speed lowers, Ash says, "She is my Grandaunt, not my Grandma..."
"But that sure is a tricky question." Adam nods.
After Centiskorch manages to wake up, it goes for Struggle Bug, lowering the Special attack of the Pokemon, and then it defeats Wigglytuff with a Flamethrower.
"Maybe there is some pinkness on you, however, let my final Pokemon become the judge of it." Opal says as she sends out a Grimmsnarl. It goes for Spirit Break, knocking out Centiskorch.
"Grimmsnarl...that was the Pokemon that we saw Marnie had..." Serena says.
"And I guess it is the final evolved form of Morgrem." Ash adds.
Alice goes with Pikachu as her final Pokemon, and Opal says, "Let me show you a true prank with my Dynamax."
When Opal Dynamax her Grimmsnarl, Alice also Gigantamax her Pikachu. Pikachu goes with Max Steelspike, which is super effective, but when Grimmsnarl goes for Max Darkness, it damages Pikachu a lot and also lowers the Special Defense.
"Hang in there, Pikachu! G-Max Volt Crash!" Alice yells, and Pikachu manages to paralyze the Grimmsnarl, and eventually, he lands the final blow with the G-Max Steelspike once again.
Opal claps her hand and says, "You gave me a good battle, I can see why my niece endorsed you."
They shake hands and Opal hands over the Fairy Badge. "I guess my grandnephew is going to be the final one..." Then she slowly walks away to prepare.
Ash says, "Now it is my turn to face Grandaunt Opal. Now I'm curious about what she is going to use..."
Serena says, "I know you can do it no matter how hard you try."
Ash is the final one as Opal says, "Ah, my grandnephew. I really hope you can be the Gym Leader, but I know that you can't because you want to be the Pokemon Master, right?"
Ash says, "I am sorry, Grandaunt."
"It is fine, but still, I am not going to hold back. Since you have beaten your siblings, I want to see your battle in person. So I won't ask you questions, let's do the original one."
Ash nods as she sends out Slurpuff as her first Pokemon. Ash sends out Perrserker. "Okay, now I am the first one." Perrserker says.
"Ah, a talking Perrserker I see. But can it handle my Thunderbolt?" As the move goes, Perrserker blocks the move, and then it uses Metal Claw, dealing some damage.
"Thanks for Pikachu shocking me a lot of times that I manage to have some resistance." Perrserker says. Then Ash tells him to use Iron Head, hurting Slurpuff a lot, and then defeat it with the Fury Swipes.
"I see, you're Perrserker is really well-trained, but still, can it be Gardevoir's opponent?"
As the Pokemon appears, it uses Psychic to toss the Perrserker to the wall, causing it to faint, and then Ash sends out Runerigus next. "A Runerigus I see." Opal says.
And the Runerigus uses Shadow Ball, but the Teleport dodges the move. In the end, Gardevoir lands a Dazzling Gleam, causing Runerigus to faint, but with the Destiny Bond, Gardevoir is taken down as well.
"You are just like your mother, always using this kind of tricks." Opal sighs.
Ash says, "Is that a compliment? Or it is an insult?"
"Maybe both. Now as elders, I am not going to give up on this battle this easy. Down to my final Pokemon, but you will like this. Hatterene."
As the Pokemon appears, Ash decides to go with Ninjask for this battle.
"Are you prepared? I am going to have some fun with this." Then Opal uses Gigantamax on the Pokemon, Ash says, "So there are two Gigantamax Pokemon for Fairy Type..."
"Indeed. And I hope you are ready since we are going to give you some pink. G-Max Smite!"
As the move comes out, it hits Ninjask and makes it confused. Ash tells it to snap out of it and uses Max Flutterfly, but it misses and it is hit by Max Mindstorm.
"Calm down, Ninjask. Watch the move and then use Max Guard." After protecting itself from the move, it snaps out of confusion and defeats Hatterene with Max Flutterfly again.
Opal claps and says, "I can see you really are special. It's a shame that I can't have you as the Gym Leader. Don't worry, I know where to look for the Gym leader. Now here is your Fairy Badge, Ash."
Ash takes the badge and thanks her. Then she sees Ash walks out of the stadium, and she sighs, "Of course, it's not good to neglect your elders, but old folk like me should also know when it's time to step out of the spotlight."
Back outside, Nora says, "Well, since you all did it, the next Gym will be at Bermingsteel close to Lake of Outrage."
"That's where Elena's gym is." Alice says. "I can't believe we are so soon."
"Just take it easy. There are still a lot of time before the Champion Cup." Adam says as they nod. Then all of Ash's siblings decide to take the Flying Taxi back to their gyms, and then Delia and Adam also go back to the castle, leaving the group and Opal left.
"So Grandaunt, what about you?" Ash asks.
"I have got a few errands to run in Hammerlocke. Care to join me for the journey?" Opal asks.
"Sure. We'd like to." Ash says as they follow her to Hammerlocke.
When they arrive at the Hammerlocke, Opal says, "Hammerlocke-always such a dusty town. Though I suppose some Pokemon prefer it that way."
"You're right, Grandaunt." Ash says. But then they notice Bede standing in front of the stadium, Ash decides to ask him. "Bede?"
Bede turns around and shows his hatred towards him. "Come to gawk at me now that I've had my Challenge Band taken away and my Gym Challenger status revoked?"
"Well, I-" Ash is cut off by Bede. "Can you really afford to waste time like this?"
"Not really..." Ash says.
"I commend your humility. It is appropriate for a Trainer of your...limited talents." Bede then yells at him. "I'll have you know, though, that I haven't given up! I must become the Champion in order to help out the chairman! I will go and ask him to let me rejoin the Gym Challenge!"
Dawn sighs, "Didn't he realize that the reason he was dropped out of it is because of his doing to destroy the ruins?"
Mark says, "I guess some people don't learn that easily..."
"Hm...that boy..." Everyone then turns to Opal, "Now that's what I would call pink!"
"What? Him?" Trenor asks.
"So sincere and straightforward and yet so twisted and misguided...I like it! That's the kind of thing that gives people some depth!"
Then much to their shock, she throws the umbrella to the ground and yells, "Time for my Gym mission, child!"
"Huh? Wha-?" Bede is shocked that Opal will rush towards him, Ash is the same, "Grandaunt?"
Opal then checks around his body and keeps saying Pink all the time, much to everyone's surprise. "Congratulations, child!"
After calming Opal down, Bede says, "M-Ms. Opal? What in the world has gotten into you?!"
"You were used by Oleana-am I right? You worked so hard to gather Wishing Stars for her, only to have her throw you away like rubbish once she was done with you... Come with me, child. I might be able to help you out."
"So Grandaunt, you found your successor?" Ash asks as she nods.
"Of course, it all depends on how much hard work he's willing to put in, too." Opal says.
Bede looks at her straight and asks, "Are you...Are you testing me?"
Then he smiles, "Very well, I accept! In fact, I plan on making sure you see my full talents and tell me everything you know about the Wishing Stars!"
Serena says, "Well, that is a really surprising turn of events."
"Yeah, but at least Ms. Opal is going to change him for the better." Lillie remarks.
Opal says, "Farewell for now. You should head to Bermingsteel." Then they leave back to the Ballonlea.
Ash says, "Well, that's that I suppose."
But before they are leaving, Alice notices Ash looking at the White Ketchum Gem, she asks, "What's wrong?"
"You see, I only have one gem left, but I am not sure who to give." Ash says. "I love all of you five and Marnie, but I still think that something is missing."
Alice nods and says, "Don't worry, I am sure that you can find her soon."
Ash nods and thanks to her. Then they go to the Wild Area for some Pokemon capturing.
