Chapter 59 Steamdrift Gym Battle Part 2
Alice is the next one to challenge Gordie, and now she is standing in front of him after the tough Gym mission. Alice did fall a lot of times, but she managed to get back up and that's all that matters.
"Hey there. The name's Gordie. I admit I feel a little bad for doing this to a Gym Challenger, but... I'm going to use this match to show the crowd that my Pokémon are unbeatable! So, let's get this over with, Challenger!"
Then he does the backflip and sends out his first Pokemon: Barbaracle. Alice says, "A Rock and Water Type, then I'll go with Appletun!"
Alice sends out her first Pokemon, and she immediately goes for the Apple Acid, however, Barbaracle manages to go for the Rock Tomb to block it.
"Razor Shell!" Gordie yells, and Barbaracle slashes at the Appletun, which just caught it off guard. "Now go with Poison Jab!"
As the move suddenly changes, Appletun is now poisoned and also taking a lot of damage.
"That Barbaracle is strong...those sure are flexible limbs." Dawn says.
"I agree...but I know Alice can withstand this." Ash says.
"Appletun! Recover your health!" Alice yells as Appletun manages to use the move Recover. It goes for another Apple Acid, which manages to land the hit and knocks it out of the field.
"All right, Appletun did it." Serena says as the others nod in agreement.
"But remember, it is still poisoned, and I wonder what Gordie's next Pokemon is..." Ash says.
"Barbaracle did a lot of job in this battle, but here is my second one: Go! Shuckle!" Gordie sends out his second Pokemon, a Shuckle.
"It is a Bug-type...which means Appletun is at a disadvantage..." Gloria adds.
"If what I remember, Shuckle has a low Attack, Special Attack, and Speed..." Alice says. "I think my Appletun can still do it."
"Are you sure about that?" Goride asks, "Use Power Split!"
Alice widens his eyes as Shuckle uses the move and Appletun seems like it is being absorbed. Lillie asks, "What is that move? What's wrong with Appletun?"
"Power Split is a move in that the user employs its psychic power to average its Attack and Sp. Atk stats with those of the target." Ash says. "Because Shuckle has low Attack and Sp. Attack, so he stole some of Appletun's two stats for its own use."
"Now use Struggle Bug!" With the attack, Shuckle manages to deal a lot of damage to Appletun, and the Poison effect isn't helping as well.
"Appletun, hang in there!" Alice begs, "Use Bulldoze!"
The attack doesn't seem to do well, and in the end, Appletun is defeated by the Poison effect.
At the same time, Delia and Melony are still watching, and Melony says, "Using Power Split to his advantage...this sure is interesting."
Delia smiles a little, even though Melony doesn't admit her love towards her son Gordie, but she is showing it right now.
"Now Shuckle has Appletun's stats, then I must be careful...Struggle Bug lowers special attack, so I'll just go with the Physical..." Alice sighs as she sends out Aegislash.
"Nice Aegislash you have here, it looks really sharp." Gordie says.
"Sharp enough to defeat your Shuckle once and for all. Use Iron Head!" Alice commands, and the attack slams at Shuckle, but with the high defenses, it doesn't seem to hurt a lot.
"Use Rock Tomb." Gordie says, and Shuckle shoots the rocks at Aegislash.
"Try to use King's Shield!" Aegislash is about to change into its shield form, but the rock knocks the shield away. "Oh no!" Alice gasps.
"Don't let it get the shield, Rock Tomb again!" Gordie says.
"Aegislash, calm down and do not worry, Power Split didn't raise its Speed Stat, we were just careless! Just go quick and take your shield! Then use Iron Defense!"
Aegislash nods as he flies towards the shield, and just like what Alice said, Shuckle is too slow to use the next move, and Aegislash already raises its defense.
"Now switch into Blade Form again and use Sacred Sword!" Alice yells.
"Use Struggle Bug! Don't let it hurt you!" Gordie yells as the two Pokemon slam into each other, but much to Gordie's shock, Aegislash overpowers Shuckle and knocks it out with the attack.
"Good work, Aegislash." Alice says with a smile to her Pokemon. Gordie sighs as he says, "I think you're going to force me to use the big guns. Let's see if you can face my next Pokemon: Tyranitar!"
When the third Pokemon comes out, Ash says, "Gordie seems to have already searched about the team Alice is going to use..."
"Yeah, to think he would use Tyranitar as his third Pokemon...by the way, Gloria had a four on four against Ms. Opal back then, and you with Elena. So Alice is going for the four on four this time?" Lillie asks.
"I wonder why is that? I mean, we are both in the same rank, but I guess due to their amount of Pokemon, they have to try to divide their Pokemon for us to battle..." Ash says.
"Tyranitar, use Crunch!" Gordie says as the Pokemon punches the Aegislash, but Alice already has Aegislash go for King's Shield, which lowers its attack stat.
"Don't let it scare you again, Tyranitar, attack once more!" Alice is surprised and Aegislash faints after another Crunch, even though the attack seems to be lowered compared to the first one.
"Aww, man..." Alice mutters. "Aegislash, you did a good job."
After she recalls her Pokemon, she takes out another Pokeball and yells, Jangmo-o! You're up next!"
Everyone is confused about Alice's choice. Dawn says, "I know that the Jangmo-o evolution line is the Persudo Legendary of the Alola Region. But it is just a Jangmo-o...how does she think she could beat Tyranitar with it?"
"But remember, Tyranitar's Attack stat is lowered because of King's Shield, I don't think it is going to do a lot more damage to it. But Dawn is right, this is going to be a tough challenge for her."
"I am not sure what you're planning, but Tyrantiar, use Body Press!" Gordie yells.
"Again with the Body Press? Jangmo-o! Dodge it from underneath!" Alice says.
Gordie and everyone are shocked that Jangmo-o uses its small body to dodge the attack, and when it is just under Tyrantiar, she says, "Brick Break!"
Jangmo-o manages to punch from the bottom, causing Tyranitar to take a lot of damage. "Smart move, however, that is not going to scare me at all." Gordie says as he has Tyranitar Ice Punch the dragon, causing it to take a lot of pain.
"Jangmo-o, are you alright?" Alice asks as the Dragon Pokemon struggles to get up. "Good, show them your Noble Roar!"
Jangmo-o roars, and suddenly, it starts to glow and it evolves, much to everyone's shock. And now it is actually a Hakomo-o.
"A Hakamo-o? Now it has become a Fighting Type!" Gordie gasps.
"Oh my...this battle is going to be different." Melony says in the stands.
"Use Sky Uppercut!" Alice smiles at her new evolved Pokemon and has it uses the Fighting Attack, and it actually deals a lot of damage to Tyranitar, causing it to be in pain.
Rotom says, "With the addition of Fighting Type, that move is going to make it stronger."
"Yeah..." Ash says.
And in the end, Tyranitar is defeated by another Sky Uppercut. Gordie recalls his Pokemon and says, "Not yet! I'm not crumbling to dust just yet. We can still battle!"
The final Pokemon is Coalossal, and Alice gulps a little as she knows that it is his Gigantamax. Coalossal goes with the Tar Shot, not only lowers Hakomo-'s speed, it also makes it hurt a lot from a Flare Blitz.
"Tar Shot looks really dangerous...and it is not even an attack move..." Lillie gasps.
"I know... Alice also has one Pokemon left." Ash says.
Alice goes with Inteleon as her final Pokemon, and Gordie says, "Like a giant mountain boulder! Hiyah! Gigantamax!"
Gordie recalls his Coalossal and then it becomes bigger, and then Gigantamax Coalossal appears, Ash says, "What the...that is a big mess..."
"I agree...what just happened..." Trenor nods.
Alice also Dynamax her Inteleon, and Gordie says, "Size means strength! Savor this pain! G-Max Volcalith!"
The attack not only causes a lot of damage to Inteleon, but some of the stone pieces are stuck in Inteleon as it keeps giving it damage. "I see...so it is a Rock-type version of Fire Spin or Whirlpool..." Alice says.
Alice has Inteleon go for the Max Geyser, which deals a lot of damage, but much to her surprise, the Speed Stat of Coalossal is also raised to the max.
"So the ability is Steam Engine." Lillie says. "It raises the speed stat up to max once hit by a Fire or a Water move..."
"That sure is powerful." Serena says.
Melony smiles a little at how strong Gordie is using his Coalossal, but she knows that Alice is still going to win this because of her bond with Inteleon. And just like she said, Inteleon defeats Coalossal with a Snipe Shot after returning to normal size.
"I just want to climb into a hole... Well, I guess it'd be more like falling from here." Gordie sighs as he recalls his final Pokemon. He walks toward Alice and says, "That was...impressive. Rules are rules. Here, take this Rock Badge."
After getting the badge, Alice can notice some tears from Gordie's eyes, she asks, "Are you fine?"
"Oh, don't worry about me. I just need to train harder, that's all." Gordie says as he leaves, but Alice still feels worried about Gordie.
Gloria says, "Even Alice gets a great battle, I guess it will be my turn and I'm going to show my battle works with him."
Ash sighs, "Gloria, if you remember from the League Card, Gordie is a type of person that might take loss pretty well. Not only you're trying to defeat him, but try motivating him as well. We're counting on you."
Gloria nods as she also changes her clothes and gets to the Gym Mission.
Here is Alice's battle against Gordie, this is basically the game team, except that the Stonjourner changes into Tyranitar. I hope you like this chapter and we will be getting to Gloria's battle in the next chapter. And what will Melony think after seeing the third battle from Gordie? Will they become the family that they used to be?
