The summer started and Sasha did her best to keep to herself. She never managed to talk to Robby after the tournament. And for weeks she ignored every call she got from her friends at Cobra Kai. She had no idea what happened at the tournament, only that Miguel won, because he invited her to his celebration party after over text. But she didn't answer. Just as she also didn't reply to Aisha's concerned messages, asking why she disappeared that day and why she hasn't answered anyone since then. But Sasha just wanted to be left alone.
The shocked look in her father's eyes is something that haunts her every waking minute.
Added to that she felt disappointed that she still hasn't found out where to find Robby. She came so close at the tournament, but of course she had to blow it. It wasn't like her to back down from a challenge. But this one seemed to have proven to be just too much. Maybe she just wasn't destined to be reunited with her family.
She spent all of her free time hanging out around the skate park in hopes of her brother coming back there. But he never did.
After around four weeks of summer break, Rico told her about the Valley Fest. He planned on selling some of his designs there to advertise his parlour. At first Sasha really didn't want to go but when he mentioned the festival for the gazillionth time, he gave her an offer she couldn't refuse.
"Little birdy. I know you don't wanna come with me to the festival, but if you don't I wont finish that back tattoo of yours. We both know you really want that phoenix as a grand finale."
"Damn, Rico. That's low. Now you're blackmailing me into socialicing?"
"Hell yeah I am, Sasha. And we both know you need it. You can't spend all your summer moping around in that skatepark and talking to me. As you like to remind me all the time: I am an old man. And you need people your own age to hang out with."
"But what is so bad about me soaking up all the wisdom you and your friends have to give?"
"Everything is wrong with that! Not that my friends are bad, but they are degenerates. And I mean that with the nicest sense possible. You could really profit from someone who actually made something big in their lives. People like Isaiah Robinson for example. You used to be so tight with his daughter. What happened?"
Looking out of the window she repeated the answer she gave him countless times over these past few weeks: "I don't wanna talk about it."
And again she just hears his sigh.
"Oh, little bird. I know you don't like to talk about your past or why you insist on going to the same skatepark every day and coming home disappointed but It can't go on like this. If you don't want to talk to me then at least talk to the little Robinson or that Hawk guy. I felt those sparks flying when he was here last time. Just please open up to someone. Or else I'm afraid you might explode someday."
"Well, at least it'll be quite the show when I do. And now, if you'll excuse me, whenI have to show up to an event I don't wanna go to then I at least make some kick ass art to sell."
A few days later it was time for her to face the world. The San Fernando Valley Festival was just staring to get busy when she and Rico arrived. Sasha was surprised to actually hear that there should be a karate exhibition from a Dojo she never heard about. Miyago-Do Karate. That sounded interesting. The flyer looked pretty good, too. It was all white with some Japanese words she didn't understand and for some reason also bonsai's. It looked peaceful. Like the total opposite of what Cobra Kai stood for. And the best part? It said it was free of cost. She could save up her allowance and finally buy that new board she really wanted to get. All those hours in the skatepark really took a tall on her beloved companion and she knew, if she tried any more risky stunts on it, then it might break in half. The flyer said do talk to a certain Daniel LaRusso from the LaRusso luxury motors and she remembers reading the name on her new car. So she quickly hurried back to her car so she could ask Rico about that DaRusso guy as fast as possible.
She just got back to their stand when she was surprised by a voice from behind her.
"Baby. I was hoping to run into you again. What are you doing here?"
Without thinking she just started talking while turning around.
"I carried.."
When she finally recognized the boy standing in front of her, all of the prints she carefully created the day before fell down on the ground.
"A Watermelon. I see. Or should I say watermelons? Good to know you never forgot the words from our favourite movie."
Without any regard for her prints she jumped into her brother's outstretched arms.
"Robby. Oh Swayze."
She wasn't able to form any other words as she choked on all the pent up tears that couldn't come out over these past years. He carried her to a more secluded part of the park while she tried to collect herself. After a short time he found them a bench and placed them so she could comfortably sit in his lab, while never stopping to whisper little words of comfort in her ear. When she started to cool down, he gently pushed her face from his shoulder to wipe the tears of her cheeks.
"Oh Sasha. I'm so glad to have you back. You really don't know how much I've missed you these past years. Not knowing where you've been and what you're going through almost killed me. I was so surprised to see you at the All Valley, fighting for that scumbag, that your little boyfriend even managed to get a few good hits."
"I didn't know he was our Dad before I saw how he looked at you. I trained with him for months and he didn't even recognize me. Or even checked for my last name. Can't believe we were fathered by a lowlife like him. But wait. What are you talking about a boyfriend? Do you mean Hawk? What gave you that idea?"
"Oh, just the way he looked at me when I called you Baby. Seemed like he really didn't like the idea of someone else being close to you."
"HA. You're funny. He actually has a girlfriend."
"Sasha. Ah. There you are. Been looking all over for you. What happened? I saw all the watermelon prints on the floor and thought you got kidnapped."
"Oh, hey Rico. Sorry to worry you but I actually ran into my brother there. Robby, may I introduce you to my guardian Rico?"
The two men took a long good look at each other.
"Rico, this is my twin brother Robby. Please be nice:"
"What you're implying there kiddo, I'm always nice."
"Uh, yeah. Tell that to Hawk. He almost pissed his pants when you gave him that look that first time you met."
"Well, if a man can't handle one bad look, how will he ever be able to protect you from anything?"
"Oh, you know damn well that I f´can fight my own battles, old man."
"Yeah, I know. Doesn't mean you should have to.'
"You know Baby, I totally agree with him on that point. When I asked around after the tournament, people told me that you went berserk on that poor guy from Topanga. I hate that you had to become so tough. You were such a sweet little kid."
"Well, my times of pink bows and barbie puppets are long gone by now. It's not like you are any softer. I felt those muscles you have by now. Wanna tell me you got them by going to the gym?"
"Okay. You're right. But that doesn't mean you're off the hook. Someday you will tell me all about that time I missed. But this reminds me that I have to and Mr. LaRusso are probably already waiting for me. Here, put your number in my phone. I'll call you as soon as I can."
He handed her his phone and while she was distracted, he said his goodbyes to Rico.
"It was nice to meet you Mr. Rico. I hope we'll see much more of each other in the future."
"Sounds good kid. Then I'll see you soon."
"Here's your phone. Promise me to contact me as soon as possible, big brother."
"I will Sash. I'm so glad I was finally able to talk to you again, Baby. I'll see you soon!"
And with one last heartfelt hug she saw her brother walking away. Again.
"Guess you should thank me now."
"Yeah, thank you for dragging me out here Rico. I'm really glad I came."
They shared a smile and Rico put his arm around her shoulder while they slowly walked back to their booth.
