CHAPTER 4: THE 411 ON HANKS

Agent Boyd and Hendrix were at their makeshift headquarters in downtown Sparkyville outside of city hall going over the Sam Mancini case. They were not only looking for Gertie, but for Python, as well. Ever since her mother had gotten killed by the Scorpion's men, Python had been in hiding from not only his men, but the feds, as well. She thought someone in the bureau may be on the Scorpion's payroll. Little did she know how right she was. Boyd and Hendrix also had some suspicions about someone in their inner workings feeding info to the Scorpion, but didn't have any proof. At least not yet.

"Any activity at the salvage yard?" Hendrix asked Boyd.

"None since we discovered Sam's body there," Boyd responded. "No one has been in or out. His daughter hasn't even shown up there, either. We suspect the Scorpion still has her."

"Well, hopefully he hasn't done anything to her, too. And what about the Holt girl?"

"No sign of her, either. She's really disappeared off the face of the earth ever since her mom got killed. Hanks said he was making sure she'd show up somewhere and keep an eye out for her. He thinks she may have returned here to Sparkyville after everything had happened."

"But where would she go?"

"According to her mother, they have relatives here. Wendy's parents, Margaux's grandparents, still live here."

"We may have to pay them a visit."

"For all they know, their granddaughter is still deceased. They don't know she's still alive, and really don't know their daughter's dead. Our men know where they live. No strange activity has gone on there, they told me."

"Well, we can rule out the grandparents. Tell me, Boyd. Why would Hanks want to pay special attention to the Holt girl?"

"I couldn't tell you, Hendrix. He may want to find her and keep her safe."

"The reason why I ask is because of what Margaux told me before she disappeared on us. She said that one of my own is probably involved in trying to kill her and working for the Scorpion. It makes sense. How in the world could the Scorpion know where we had placed them and where to go? Plus, Hanks wasn't real warm to the girl when we first got her involved in W.P., and now he wants to be the one to find her?"

"You think he may be in bed with the Scorpion and his men?"

"I wouldn't put it past him. He's not really the warmest guy around. He may have even helped in setting Sam up to get murdered by the Scorpion, for all we know. This is just between you and I. If you see anything out of the ordinary with Hanks, let me know. Got it?"

"Sure thing, chief."

"Good. And what about Detective Young?"

"He's been real helpful, especially in telling me about that night in Sam's when those girl gangs had that fight, where we set up Margaux's disappearance. You know Amanda, her friend, is also back in Sparkyville, though not in hiding like she is."

"No one suspects that she was working with us. I think she will be safe." And Hendrix and Boyd continued to discuss the case and Agent Hanks.
