A Twist in Tale: Junjou Romantica Special
A/N: I was thinking, while reading the manga for the nth time, how it would've been if things went differently. What is Akhiko and Hiroki started dating in high school? How would things have played out then? That made me want to create this story. So read on and enjoy the drama that ensues with the slight changes in how things turn out.
Akhiko blamed Hiroki. He really did. It wasn't fair that he looked so cute in his uniform, while he blushed and confessed his feelings to Akhiko. He nervously rubbed the back of his neck, and stuttered out his feelings. His eyes nervously avoiding him, in fear of rejection. But how could Akhiko refuse. Hiroki was the only one who managed to break his walls and push in. He stayed by his side loyally for 6 years, never once swaying.
"Okay"
Hiroki stopped mid-sentence in his ramblings. "Okay?"
"Okay, let's date."
Hiroki finally made eye contact with Akhiko. Were his ears deceiving him? Did this guy actually agree to his poor attempt at a confession?
"Are you sure….?"
Akhiko laughed at that. Trust Hiroki to act like a dork at the most unexpected times.
He ruffled Hiroki's hair, and with fond eyes, he smiled. "I'm sure baka."
Sometimes things go a bit off track. People do things that aren't expected of them and deviations are created to the main timeline. Hiroki's unexpected confession during their high-school years changed the timeline and a deviation was made.
Now let's see what's in store for our favorite characters….
OoooO
Hiroki confessed to Akhiko when they were in high school, and thus many changes were made. Because of his relationship with Hiroki, Akhiko never became close friends with Takahiro. They were acquaintances, acknowledging each other's presence, but never trying to start a proper conversation.
Because Akhiko wasn't a close friend to Takahiro, Misaki never got him as a tutor. Instead, he joined a cram school and barely managed to get into M university. However, when he did get in, he managed to intermingle with someone he never thought he'd talk to.
He met Miyagi Yo.
Their encounter was truly unexpected. Misaki was going past the campus grounds to the cafeteria when he noticed someone sitting on a bench all alone. Being the person he is, he decided to check up on that person.
As he got closer, he recognized the teacher as his literature professor, Miyagi Yo.
Miyagi appeared unhappy. He kept rubbing his face, sighing as he looked at a photograph in his hand. He felt Misaki approach and immediately sat straight with a smile.
"Sensei, everything okay?" Misaki nervously asked.
"Everything is alright. Don't need to worry."
But Misaki felt uncomfortable. Usually he never meddled in other people's affairs because he didn't want to cause trouble for others, but however, Miyagi really looked unhappy and his fake smile unnerved Misaki.
"Sensei, I apologize, but you clearly look unhappy. Why not talk about it. I'm a total stranger anyhow, so it shouldn't really matter right?"
Miyagi was taken aback. This kid looked quite bold to be asking him to open up. But he was tired of hiding this story. He had hidden it for almost 15 years now.
Sensing that his teacher was going to talk, Misaki sat beside him.
"It's been fifteen years since my homeroom teacher has passed away. She was truly very dear to me, and I haven't stopped thinking about her. However, this love has been ruining my relationship with my wife. I know she's cheating on me, but I can't bring myself to care about it, and I start to feel guilty."
Misaki didn't know what to do. What should he say in these situations? But he truly wanted to help his teacher. But could he do it without troubling his teacher?
"Sensei, I know I'm the last person to be giving you advice, but I think you should call it off with your wife. I believe you are doing nothing but dragging things on with her. She deserves to know how you feel. That way, atleast you will be at peace and your wife can find someone more suitable for her…is what I think, but I don't want to impose. I'm sorry if I-"
"You truly are something", Miyagi chuckled after what felt like a long time.
Misaki nervously laughed. The bell rang at that moment, signaling the end of lunch. He got up and bowed at his teacher. "See you in class sensei."
"Can I get your name atleast?" Miyagi couldn't help but call out after him.
"Takahashi Misaki" was all that Miyagi heard before a swarm of students hid his angel in disguise.
OoooO
Since Miyagi met Misaki, he took a divorce from his wife. He started to take an interest in Misaki, and slowly but steadily, started dating his student. He knew it was wrong, but Misaki was too cute for him to avoid. Since his brother had to transfer to Osaka, Misaki moved to a small single room apartment, and started his life there. Miyagi would occasionally visit, and Misaki was happy for the time they spent together.
However, in between their normal routine, Miyagi got a call from an unknown number. It turned out to be a call from his brother-in-law. Miyagi vaguely remembered the name…Shizuku? Shinomu? Shinobu….yeah that was it! Shinobu very curtly asked Miyagi to meet him, and cut the call before he could decline.
Miyagi, not having a choice in the matter, went to visit the kid. However, he did not tell Misaki as he didn't feel the need to tell him. It was a silly matter after all. The kid probably wanted to threaten him because he took a divorce from his sister.
So, the next day he arrived at the venue. However, he wasn't expecting the situation to go a full three-sixty on him.
He arrived at the restaurant where he was supposed to meet Shinobu, and found him sitting alone in a secluded corner. He walked up and greeted his ex-brother in law. Shinobu however didn't seem bothered with that, and as soon as he saw Miyagi sit comfortably, he got right to the point.
"I'm in love with you" he said flatly.
"Eh?" Miyagi couldn't help but let out.
"I have loved you ever since you got married to my sister"
Miyagi couldn't understand this situation at all. Why was this brat confessing to him? Sure he didn't mind the fact that Shinobu was a man. He was, after all dating another man. But why him?
When he did voice out his thoughts, Shinobu simply said, "its destiny".
"Destiny, huh?" was all Miyagi could say.
An awkward silence followed. After which Miyagi decided he couldn't deal with this nonsense.
"Shinobu-chin, I am already in a relationship with someone else. I apologize, but I cannot accept this."
"But I came all the way from Australia for you" Shinobu whined.
"I didn't ask you to" Miyagi knew he was being rude, but this brat was seriously taking things too far. With a sigh he got up. "Call your dad and go back. You are far too young to be confessing to men double your age."
"Who are you dating? I'm sure he is nothing in comparison to me. Let me see her!"
"Shinobu! Go home."
Without looking back, Miyagi left the restaurant, mentally deciding that he didn't have to worry his young lover with the details of this encounter. Misaki would only worry, and Miyagi didn't want to start that chapter right now.
With a sigh, he made his way to the university, praying that the brat didn't tell his father about today's event.
OoooO
Since Shinobu's encounter with Miyagi took a turn for the worse, he never got a chance to end up with Miyagi. He instead left the restaurant and made his way home, mentally wondering what he'd tell his father. He suddenly took his trip here. Should he return to Australia, or should he try to continue to pursue Miyagi.
He really did like Miyagi, waiting for the correct moment to admit his feeling. As soon as he heard Miyagi got a divorce, he jumped at the opportunity.
"I won't give up!" Shinobu decided. He did after all still have some tricks up his sleeves.
However, just as he thought that, he got ambushed. A group of nasty looking thugs surrounded him. There were three men, their clothes old and dusty.
"Ah look at this cutie" one of them snarled. "We got the best out of them"
"Chibi", one of them drawled. "Mind shelling out your cash" he winked seductively.
Shinobu rolled his eyes. How unfortunate was he to run into these losers just after he was rejected.
"I am not gonna give any of you anything!" he yelled.
"Is that so?" the third smirked. "Hope you are ready for a world of pain".
Just as he was about to get punched, Shinobu got a dash of black move past his eyes, and the next thing he saw was three men lying on their sides groaning.
"Just like a manga" Shinobu marveled.
"Are you okay?" a low voice asked beside him.
Shinobu turned and caught sight of a man, a little taller than even Miyagi, which was saying a lot cause Miyagi wasn't short. He had dark black eyes and similar color hair.
"Yeah…thanks" Shinobu lowered his eyes.
"It's okay, they won't hurt you again" the man promised, and for some reason Shinobu sort of felt like believing him. "What's your name kid?"
"Takatsuki Shinobu"
"Well Shinobu, take care. Try to not wonder down random paths okay. Will you be alright getting home right now?"
For some reason, Shinobu didn't want to go home alone. But he wouldn't say it was because he was scared after the attack. He wanted to know more about this man in front of him, who reminded him of a manga hero.
"I'm sorry, but could you please drop me to the nearest station. I'm a little lost."
And so, that was how Shinobu met Nowaki. A new story was about to unfold.
OoooO
After getting Nowaki to drop him to the station, Shinobu managed to get his phone number. Somehow, he also bumped into Nowaki at the park, convenience store and hospital. He came to know that Nowaki was a resident doctor, and these chance meetings made him believe that destiny wanted him to fall for Nowaki.
Somehow along the way, Nowaki also fell for the cute kid who blushed as easily as he got mad. Seeing Shinobu's persistent attempts to woo him made Nowaki want to take a chance with the kid. And thus they began dating, and Shinobu decided to continue his studied in Japan, much to his father's happiness.
A few months passed since our characters got together with their significant others. However, no matter how much you change something, what is meant to be is meant to be. You can't go against Murphy's Law.
And so hence, little by little, the circumstances began changing. Let us see how.
