OK, just so we're clear before we start, I am taking inspiration from Beware of Chicken and a few pokemon fanfics. This is supposed to be a slice of life pokemon fanfic with some action. Anyways, this is just for fun and i really recommend you guys to read Beware of Chicken if you like slice of life and xianxia. Please take it easy on me, it's my first time even attempting something like a story seriously.
Disclaimer: I don't own pokemon
In the world of pokemon, there were Champions, the Elites, and so many more people who will be written in the history books. However, Adam was not one of these, only getting an indigo league invitation and making it to the top 32. Nobody really knew him but that okay. After all, he didn't want to be well known or be a world-class trainer, he just wanted to have a relaxing life. When he wasn't looking for adventure, adventure came to him. This time he has to actually excel and whether he liked it or not, he had to win. After that, maybe someone or something would grant his wish after he truly earned his wish.
Every day, Adam would wake up to the sound of his Venusaur snoring in his sleep and one overwhelming feeling immediately came rushing throughout his soul, satisfaction. As he yawned and started to get off his bed, crowded with his Glaceon known to him as Frostdew and his warrior Sandslash named Slate. Waking up was annoying and tiring but he knew he would have to regardless of his desire to sleep more. He had more pokemon however they preferred to sleep on the small ranch Professor Oak had given him in exchange for his field work. His field work mainly involved in finding and giving Oak a Charizardite X, which he agreed to. Putting his clothing on, he got up and walked to his stairs and started walking down. He knew it would be a long day, on the other hand though, it would be a rewarding one.
"Hey girl, what are you doing?" Adam asked with a bit of amusement in his voice. The little Wooloo was a powerful pokemon in battle, but otherwise was as cute as any other member of her species. All he got was a "bahhh" in reply and trying to hide that she was playing with the young rockruffs. He put down a bucket full of water and a bowl full of fresh food he cooked up for her. Moving along, he saw the mudsdale looking happy and healthy, while the zubats chirped greetings at him. Walking throughout the ranch and feeding them was a tiring process but a necessary one. They're all so damn cute, Adam thought and began to walk down to the pokemart to sell his various super-effective damage reducing berries and berry juice. The berries and juice would be great held items and would be sold for a high price, especially because the Gym Challenge was going to start soon.. Feeling refreshed, he started to head back to his cottage next to his ranch to cook some food.
In the end, he got around $50000 poke from the exchange, to buy new equipment for the sanctuary. Ohhh … I forgot! He thought when he returned. He had forgotten that today was exam day for the students at the Kanto Pallet Academy and he had promised to the Professor that he would go and watch the results with him! As he ran back out the front door, he knew he would be a little late. As one of professor Oak's former field researchers, Adam knew he would most likely get a lecture about tardiness. Adam didn't despise jogging, quite the opposite in fact as he liked running. Today was different, he had to go at full speed to get to the academy and felt tired and spent at the end of it. When he went to and sat down on the bleachers where they were announcing the results, Professor Oak was wrapping up on the results and told who would be allowed to have a Kanto Starter. Apparently, there were four, the kids were Ash, Gary, Jake, and a transfer student called Stacy who all aced the test. As such they were allowed to have a Kanto Starter, which all of them agreed to and get tomorrow morning. Once the presentation was finished and the crowd of parents and kids alike were gone, Professor Oak approached Adam, looking a bit annoyed. "Listen, I may be old but even I don't forget something so important as a promise!" Oak said. "Okay, old man, give me a break for once!" Adam said. Adam and Oak then proceeded to chat about their life and how they were doing. After a while, Oak left and Adam started to walk back home slowly. After all, it would be nice to relax after that hectic run through the town.
When Adam came back he saw a letter in his mailbox, so he opened it. When he read the letter he was in for a nasty twist of fate. In short terms, the professor couldn't pay for his ranch, so he had two options. One, was to close down his little sanctuary or two, partake in the gym challenge once more and get a good spot in the league so the lab could get enough money because Adam was affiliated with the Pallet Lab. Due to Adam and the Pallet lab being affiliated, the lab would get money from how well the gym battles and league battles were received. As such, he had to either to lose his dream because he sure as hell wouldn't be able to pay the money back or come out of retirement.
Well, that leaves me with only one option, he thought with anger. Usually when you redo the gym challenge, it gets exponentially harder because the gym leaders need to use their strongest teams. Trick room, weather and hyper offensive teams with hazard support were all common and for him to win he needed his best squad. Another thing they used to throw off veterans was for the Veteran League to be played in a different region. Well, better prepare, and buy a lot of food for $50000. The professor did say he would feed and take care of the pokemon but I have to buy the food myself. In about a week I have to train and be on par while also packing what I need because the league I have to play in was the Hoenn one. After sulking for a bit due to his situation, he cooked lunch for him and the pokemon. I hate leaving the ranch behind but it's necessary for the future. After a few more hours of exercise and playing with the pokemon, he went to bed. For what could be the last in a long time, Adam slept on his bed with Slate and Frostdew huddling close together away from him on his bed and Venusaur sleeping on the ground.
In Viridian City, Giovanni put an order for Team Rocket to slowly encroach the Indigo League with corruption. Of course, the damn dragon tamer would cleanse the Indigo League but by then it would be too late. Too late to stop the project he had been working of for years, Lance would soon see that he had messed with an organization far stronger than him and his stupid dragons! In the small office, with no lights on and no noise getting out, Giovanni laughed. He laughed for a few minutes before getting back to work. If he could take control of Mount Moon and all fossil pokemon, he would be able to slow down progress to a halt by using a few Team Rocket teams. Nothing that big, Pierce wouldn't be allowed, that fool had to go through training again. He wouldn't allow Team Rocket to use violence, rather he would just let them capture pokemon and maybe they would even get samples for the project. Sadly, the Indigo League was stronger than it ever was, so he had to be a lot more careful.
