I originally wrote this as a small writing warm up after a long hiatus I took. I hope you like enjoy!
The idea was obviously silly at first glance. When Egon rambled on and on about the importance of teamwork and coordination to the other men after a few unsuccessful rounds of ghostbusting, Ray never imagined that they would be doing something as simple as making friendship bracelets. Egon claimed that a "bonding exercise" would be able to bring the team closer together despite the team's (and especially Peter's) hard resistance. And yet, here they were, huddled over the main lobby table with colored beads and yarn, making each other decorated bracelets for each of their teammates like they were tweenage girls at a sleepover.
"The friendship bracelets will always be packed with a personal tracker and backup radio on each of us, so we're able to find each other whenever our regular walkies fail." Egon explained, symmetrically braiding his string to match on both sides.
"Yeah, but did it have to be bracelets? Why couldn't it be something more fashionable? Bracelets are totally last season Egghead." Peter teased, struggling to get a bead through a string of yarn.
"Oh c'mon guys, Egon's got a point here," Ray retorted, "Last week, we almost lost ourselves to a couple of Class 4s because we were too busy fighting amongst ourselves. This bonding exercise is necessary."
"And besides, we all need the trackers. Especially for you Pete." Winston chuckles as he places another charm into his bracelet.
"Alright, alright. But I am not putting this on in public, ya hear?" Peter said, rolling his eyes as he did so.
A few minutes of concentration followed after Peter's response, only being interrupted by Egon presenting his finished friendship bracelet to Ray. The round letter beads simply just spelled Ray's name, but the rest of the bracelet was intricately woven with a beautiful design. He used the simple brick red and white for the colors, yet it looked so complex from the braids alone. The other three ghostbusters were more than impressed by Egon's bracelet making skills.
"Wow Eggie, way to flex on the rest of us huh?" Peter jokingly moked.
"This is quite a beautiful braid you've weaved, Spengler." Ray carefully examined the bracelet before putting it on his own wrist. "And it fits perfectly as well!"
Ray showed off the friendship bracelet he made to the fungus enthusiast. It wasn't elaborately decorated like Egon's was, but it's simple and cute matching beading along with the letter beads spelling out "Egon Spengs" won the monotone scientist over. He was handed the blue and white bracelet and he immediately put it around his wrist, noting how comfortable the yarn felt around his wrist. At least it seemed like he would be able to wear it without bothering him too much, compared to many other pieces of jewelry he's tried on in the past due to his sensory issues.
"It's a nicely made bracelet, thank you." Egon complimented. Ray smiled back, proudful of his small yet valuable work.
Winston and Peter quickly switched bracelets between each other, each silently taking mental notes on each other's work. Winston chose pink and blue for Peter's colors, with simple beaded letters spelling out "Stinky Pete" on them along with a nice pattern of beads. Winston's own bracelet colors were green and orange, having "Winny" spelled out on the beaded letters. Peter's bracelet was filled to the brim with tiny charms, sounding like a cat's belled collar everytime it moved. Winston's bracelet was simple enough, just having a matching beaded color pattern all around. Both of them fitted comfortably in each of the men's wrists.
"Winny, really?" Winson asked.
"Why are you complaining? Stinky Pete?" Peter responded back. "Pink is definitely my color though, so I thank you for your contribution."
"I'll make sure to mix your reds and whites if you like pink so much." Ray joked. The four men erupted in laughter from Ray's small joke. Peter secretly took back his previous statement, making friendship bracelets had been the highlight of his ghostbusting so far.
