Interlude Chapter: Details And Silliness
"WAKAWAKAWAKAWAKA!" -Pacman
"Report," The Queen of Melromarc commanded to the spy that she had assigned to observe Zeno and the two humans.
"As you already know from the first time we talked, the heroes might not have been exaggerating about Zeno's power. I had also informed you of the trial against the shield hero that backfired, as well as Aultcray's idiocy when he dared to threaten the omni-king. In our second discussion, I told you about the disasters all over the continent and how Malty had unintentionally been the cause of this by arousing Zeno. This time, I'm here to tell you that I just found out Aultcray died last night," The spy explained to the shock of Miriella.
"I...see. That is...most unfortunate. Do you know how it happened?" The Queen of Melromarc asked solemnly.
"I do, your highness. Your now-deceased husband was crushed beneath a part of the castle that collapsed due to an earthquake," The shadow responded.
"...What of the shield hero and his party?" Queen Miriella asked, changing the subject to get her mind off the death of the man she had married.
"Those three are doing fine, my queen, especially with Zeno there," The informant answered, causing the other to blush.
Whenever Queen Miriella heard mention of the omni-king, she always got all hot and bothered. Now that she was single once again, it had only gotten worse. As she was dealing with this, a naughty idea suddenly entered her mind.
'Mayhaps I could also become a lover to Zeno. Imagining him, myself, and Malty having a three-way doesn't sound too bad, either. I'd love to see the look on my eldest daughter's face at being told that her lover is also going to be her stepfather,' Queen Miriella thought with a mischievous smile.
Malty, who was in the middle of doing some "extracurricular activities" with Zeno, suddenly stopped and shuddered as an inexplicable chill washed over her. Shrugging it off, she and Zeno went back to what they were doing.
Queen Miriella then refocused and asked, "What will the shield hero do about getting a party member who will actually fight for him whenever needed? My eldest daughter won't lift a finger to help him, and Zeno seems like the type who will just do whatever he wants. The omni-king may help sometimes if asked, but I doubt he'll do so all the time."
"I don't know yet, but I'll be sure to inform you when I find out," The shadow replied.
"That is all, then. Dismissed," The Queen of Melromarc said.
When her spy had left, Queen Miriella sighed tiredly. Deciding that she'd dealt with enough today, she started daydreaming about Zeno.
'Still, I can't help but wonder what the word naan means," She thought, remembering for a fleeting moment this particular word that a self-proclaimed sage of trolling had once spoken of but never explained.
