Chapter 1: Match Start
While everyone lives their lives someone else lives a different life; i.e. the life of Courtney Bennett or Blue as she's called. Blue was a sixteen-year-old girl, asexual in the way she didn't like boys or girls in a romantic or even enticing way, wore a baseball cap outside with only a few strands of her violet hair allowed to seep out, glistening amber eyes, her habiliments were both white-her shirt and her sweat pants-but she had a red ribbon around her neck and wore blue sneakers with the tips circled white.
Blue was a Stand user, someone who survived a virus that gave her supernatural abilities and also helped her gain a new friend with enough sentience to talk to, Hotplay.
Hotplay was a slender apparition, mostly red but her bulky face had a visage of red lines around her cheeks and jaw looking like a football post, her eyes green, five fingers with three lines circled around her fingers, kneepads on her shins, and all over her chest which had b*** but no n*** was a three-horned man made out of the symbols of footballs, baseballs, basketballs, and tennis balls.
They were on their way to school when a frog hopped by, and a small thing sprouted from its back wriggling to get out.
"Please help!"
The frog was a lithobates clamitan, or a dark green frog from eastern North America with black specks all over its back. Its Stand was like a sprout on its back with four sharp fork-esque hair, slimy gray skin, slanted white eyes, and small arms that also looked like forks. It looked like a gingerbread man made out of clay.
Blue, not seeing any threat with this Stand, kneeled down and looked at it directly in its eyes.
"Are you alright? Are you frightened little Stand? What is your name?"
So many questions; 1/100 of them were asked in a conjoined sentence.
"I'm trapped on a frog with no way to leave so no? The lifespan of a frog is five to nine years so I don't get much time to live. But other than that, I'm Sound of Silence nice to meet you."
"Okay. Listen, Sound, I feel for you in your time of distress but there's nothing I can do. That frog survived whatever disease came to it so you're just going to have to live with it, and it's not like many people are going to be able to hear slash see you anyways."
With that-Blue moseyed along to her school.
School
Her school was big enough for a little over eleven-hundred students, painted yellow like an awareness message of the endangerment of the bee population, and in only a month it would become blue meshed with white for the extinction of the polar bears, had a multitude of windows of course but only one of the nearly a hundred was the one she looked out everyday-the one on the right side of the building. The school gate was wide open; it was after school hours. Today she was going to play basketball.
That's right-today was a big basketball game for her school. This year would be the first Stand-user basketball game in all of California. People have gone from golden arrows nocked at them with a low possibility of surviving obtaining a Stand to half of the world now having Stand's. Soon, normal people would be the minorities.
Blue went to the basketball court where only two of her classmates as well team members were playing. Their names were Bailey and Cleo; both sixteen years old but Cleo was at least a month and a half older than Bailey.
Bailey had medium length black hair with three pink donuts in it, olive skin, red eyes, a dark blue mistaken for a black shirt with a V-shape incision around her neckline, a few tanlines from the bracelets she usually wears that were taken off for the game, red shorts with the top and bottom striped with gray lines, and of course black shoes with white tips.
Cleo was an extra-light natural haired with blue eyes, fair white skin, a red shirt with her neck completely covered but her arms sleeveless, yellow shorts with gray lines, and purple shoes with white tips.
Bailey had the ball. She tried raising it up to toss it in the basket, but Cleo was waving her arms matching the pace. They basically looked like boys cheering for their favorite football team on the bleachers.
They were doing it before she got here and they were still doing it when she approached them, coughed loud enough to be heard.
They stopped, the ball being held by a green hand with intricate white braces.
"Hi Blue," Bailey waved to her friend.
"You're early for, you know, you," Cleo said.
Blue smiled in a way that told her friends what they said was kinda hurtful but she was mature enough to deal with it.
"The power went out yesterday and my phone was almost out of power. Nothing for me to do but go to sleep."
"And you didn't think about talking with Hotplay?" Bailey asked.
"Hotplay is fun and all but even he doesn't count as a friend. Besides, if there's one thing I wouldn't do is party all night before a big basketball game-the first game where we get to use Stands."
The three girls nodded.
The hand chucked the ball at Blue who managed to catch it with her own two hands.
"How about a three-person royale, first one to sink a ball in wins. Only rule is we do it without the help of our Stand's."
Blue loved a good competition as much as the next tomboy. She squatted down and rolled the ball on the ground, and the three encircled it.
And then-each one of their Stand's protruded from their arms and slammed their hands on the ball in unison propelling it in the air. Blue and Bailey both jumped in the air trying to snatch the ball first.
Neither managed to grab the ball, but Blue's fingertips managed to propel the ball on the left side of the court. Instead of racing after the ball, Bailey and Cleo just looked at Blue, wry smiles spreading on their faces.
"Tsk-tsk, if this was an actual game you would have just given the ball to our opponent," Bailey said.
"Not the best way to start a basketball game, but this is why we have practice," Cleo said. "Since the game is on halt, can I use Bate Kush to retrieve the ball?"
Blue and Bailey nodded.
With a little flutter of excitement, she swished her hand, and the ball floated in the air in a miniature altocumulus purple cloud. It was shaking. Blue and Bailey covered her left and right shoulders so they could swipe the ball when she used her Stand to grab the ball.
"Hotplay!" Blue shouted.
With a flash and a few finger crosses from Hotplay's fingers, his powers worked its magic on Blue and Cleo.
Their souls had swapped, Cleo now the one in control of Bate Kush levitating the ball. And Cleo was unfettered, ready to leap for the ball when it came towards (ita) her (nor) body.
Blue did the only thing her feelings told her wouldn't lead her into falling into Cleo's snare's: jump up and smack the ball to the left, Hotplay appearing beside her and dribbling back to her.
Cleo had a small tick on her face as she ground her mouth into a smile while Bailey just fumed:
"What part of 'no-Stands' did you guys not hear? So be it! Amsterdam!"
Bailey activated her stand by pressing both her thumbs together when a humanoid dragon came out hovering on her left side. Her Stand was completely black with sharp tusks sticking out behind both sides of its head, slanted yellow eyes, no visible mouth but a few white spots on its lower facial, bulges of muscles around its pecs, scales covering its arms, gray hands, two very small tails sticking out its rear, and wings sprouting from its legs.
Amsterdam turned around until he was staring into Bailey's eyes like a gentleman in the ballroom would, and then prong her arms with two elongated tails.
She was changing like a werewolf, her teeth were growing smaller, multiplying and becoming more serrated while her nose was starting to protrude from her skin with rings on the top of her now long nose, and long whiskers started growing from her nostrils.
She was a hybrid of a human and a dragon, and in her new form she moved fast enough to catch up to Blue, steal the ball from her, and zoom at a zenith pace getting out of her friends two meter perimeter.
To say she reached the pinnacle of a perfect basketball player thanks to her Stand was an understatement; to say it was flawless was a bit of an exaggeration. Nonetheless, she managed to make it to the basket, loped one foot up, and slam dunked her ball winning their sport royale.
There were no cheers for her victory, but now that the game was over it called for Blue to use Hotplay to return to her own body.
The first thing she felt when she arise dawning over her was a whirlwind of confusion.
That feeling was natural, because trying to understand who you are is a bombshell of thought, ending with her feeling low because Cleo squatted down before the body swap could happen.
Now she was standing up while Bailey sauntered stolidly with Amsterdam floating next to her. In a moment of adrenaline rush and pure mutual admiration of Stand and Stand user...she and Amsterdam gave each other a high-five.
"Don't feel so bad about losing; you're good at basketball just cursed with an unhelpful Stand."
That voice was Hotplay speaking to Blue.
She then stroked her users shoulder with her rough gauntlet brown arms. Somehow they felt like kitty paws over what they should be: a rugby players' arm.
The game didn't end with one round. They played a little more, dozens of times over, and each one of the girls had a fair chance to sink a basket...
"That's enough fun out of you three; time to prepare for a fun game."
That sounded like an older, more committed to their reason being there-the game-voice. It was without even a peek around could only be the voice of their basketball coach, Ms. Jaz Shipka.
Ms. Shipka was young with B-cup boobs covered by a gray track shirt and a red jacket with two pocket protectors on both sides. Her hair was brown like Blue's but her eyes were more blue; irony. And on her right side was earplugs that came with her jacket. She wore blue jeans with a white and pink heart sticker on her right thigh:
"I'm a feminist; the kind that likes guys and doesn't like Hollywood's representation of feminist's."
"You girls do like to play before a game and I think you should have played yesterday and slept in. I take it you know the rules for Stand-basketball?"
All three nodded.
"Instead of the six players allowed on the basketball court we've been downsized to three players." Said Bailey. "We are not allowed to use Stands to hurt other players, destroy the ground, or grow something to walk over the ground. Any damage over 500 dollars could lead to lawsuits. Stand's themselves can not go higher than the player can jump, only one player on a team can have an enhancer user, and both a human hand and a Stand hand can only dribble for five seconds."
Bailey finished reciting the rules. Jaz was proud of her being her student.
"Those are just the rules you should be aware of, but no rules can change how each team's players have different powers. You need to remember to play fairly and honorably. That being said, you three stink and need to take a shower."
(dash)
For all readers hoping for a shower scene...your out of luck, we're going straight to the game.
The bleachers were overfull of fans waiting to see the very first Stand basketball game. Some of the fans were the parents of the three girls. A total of five adults watching Cleo, Bailey and Blue play.
The girls were wearing their basketball uniforms: sleeveless shirts with the numbers 49, 14, and 25 etched on them in emblazoned black over their yellow shirts, wearing black shorts with stripes of red on the top. Sneakers were allowed to be different, though they sure didn't look any different.
Their opponents were wearing grey uniforms with silver stripes. Their captain was a 6'5" foot tall Mexican girl with a pin in her hair giving a tiny flap of hair, gray eyes, a small nose, and white gloves with red lines.
Her teammates surrounded the basketball net. They consisted of a pale-skinned blonde girl with pigtails, blue eyes, freckles, and a little brown under her hair. Her other teammate was Asian with long hair touching her shoulders with braces and hazel eyes.
The other girls were tiny compared to their team captain. The game started with Bailey and her standing in the center circle; Bailey having to wiggle her chin and toes just to attempt to look her right in her eyes.
And then-the male referee with shaven brown hair and rosy cheeks came up to them with a ball in his hands.
"Thank you both for playing today. Remember to try your best and have fun. Ready, begin the Stand-Basketball-Game."
He raised the basketball above his head and bounced it on the ground.
The tall girl, Josephine, managed to easily hit the ball with her strong left arm, then dribble it to her right arm all while Bailey tried snatching the ball away from her.
While she was bending her knees trying to steal the ball and dribble around, a small gust of wind swirled around Cleo's shoe. With a little skip in her foot, she moved incredibly fast towards Josephine and Bailey.
Bailey turned around, Amsterdam standing stolidly against her back like a shield, giving her cover before she swerve to the right where she could grab the ball. However, Josephine dribbled to the left...only for Cleo to nearly push into her stealing the bally from her.
The blonde-haired girl, Marisol, tried to confuse her sidestepping with her arms stretched out.
"Beebee."
On top of Marisol's shoulder appeared a Stand the size of a red-tailed lobster latching onto her. It had a big head in the shape of a piece of toast but with yellow skin around large eyes, green eyes with blue irises, its body resembled a lizard only it had green seashell's on both its sides and webbed feet.
Cleo attempted to use Kate Bush's powers to create another swirling vortex of air under her feet to jump over Marisol and soccer a basket. It appeared for a whole second before dissipating, the shock of her powers fading helped Marisol steal the ball right from her fingertips.
She dribbled while BeeBee was desperately trying to hold on, and then she raised her arms up high and tossed the ball while far away from the basket. It landed through the basket and hit the floor, the sound of the referee blowing his whistle resounded through the auditorium.
The game had to be restarted, Blue having some time alone to whisper in Cleo's ears:
"Stay away from their blonde teammate. I think her Stand has a deoxidization ability. So here's what you can do..."
Cleo nodded in understanding of Blue's plan.
The game started again with Josephine and Bailey jumping for the ball tossed off the ground. This time Amsterdam appeared upside down on Bailey's back, her using the momentum of its strong wings to reach the ball.
Instead of stealing it she tossed it to Cleo. Cleo dribbled a little before being intercepted by the Asian player, Kym. While dribbling the ball her Stand created a small swirling vortex next to her. That vortex dissipated the moment Marisol saw it.
And then-she passed the ball to Blue who dribbled three times with her right arm seeming to be charging at Kym when a vortex appeared that she ran into and jumped off of.
She managed to do a slam dunk before landing next to the net.
The one most upset about that point was Marisol. She was the one who could've stopped her by going after Blue instead of Cleo, but none of her teammates looked at her with an accusing glance so that regret went away as Josephine flitted back to the center of the court.
This time Bailey's Stand Amsterdam manifested before her; the referee not reacting to it and Josephine manifesting her own stand:
Her Stand had two long talons protruding from its back asymmetrical from each other, slanted brown eyes with two black vertical lines adjacent to each other, brown rough skin, yellow fingers, and a tricorn-Esque appendage on its forehead.
Amsterdam's tails extended into Bailey's back inserting themselves into her. Josephine's Stand unsheathed what was behind it's back, a ladder made entirely out of bones.
And then, the referee bounced the ball and Bailey jumped for it. Josephine didn't jump, and because she didn't Bailey managed to catch the ball with ease. She then landed and slipped around Josephine dribbling towards the net.
She had no way of knowing what was in store for her: a wall. A big brown wall grew before her she almost ran into at full speed, however, she managed to veer to the left of the path she was now encompassing. It seemed Josephine's Stand had the power to summon labyrinth's.
She was led right into the awaiting hands of Kym. Kym bent her knees, stared intensely into Bailey's eyes, and two more hands materialized giving her the appearance of a four-armed inhuman being.
Bailey knew she couldn't get past Kym while she had four arms, she threw her ball in the air. While the ball was midair it was caught by Amsterdam protruding from her torso. It dribbled back and forth before throwing it to the net.
Although a good try, the ball went through the sidelines.
"That's our turn." Kym said skipping to get the ball.
The moment she picked up the ball the rubble of the labyrinth sank into the ground.
"Isn't that wall against the rules?" Blue asked.
"No," the referee answered. "She's not allowed to change the layout of the ground, but in this game trapping someone, where their options are limited, is also a part of basketball."
While Cleo was playing guard by the net, Blue snuck behind Marisol ready to swipe the ball out of her hand.
Kym bounced the ball into the court, didn't seem to be heading for Marisol or Josephine. But then, Kym's Stand materialized like it was wrapped around her waist and stood at full height: a plaid white humanoid with three stars for its eyes and mouth, long green eyebrows, its limbs completely white while its torso was a picture of shapes put together: orange circle, green triangle, and yellow rectangle.
Using just its fingers it bounced the ball which launched straight to Josephine catching it with her right hand but dunking it between her legs to catch it with her left, and then returning the ball to her right hand doing the same dribbling trick she did before all while moving very fast.
Blue's team could only watch as Josephine jumped and prepared to score a point. If Blue wanted to she could switch bodies with Josephine to catch the ball with Josephine's arms but she could get in trouble...
The ball was thrown to the net-Blue in Josephine's body hopped up and smacked it away, instantly returning Josephine to her original mindset once the ball was outside the line.
Since Blue was the closet-had to be close to her because of the short range of her Stand-she was the one who got to pick up the ball to throw to her teammates, or so they would think.
She instead threw the ball straight to a member of the opposite team Marisol. With Marisol now dribbling the ball, a little dumbfounded, she used Hotplay to switch minds with her. She dribbled for two seconds before passing the ball to Cleo, and then returned to her original form.
The team could do nothing as Cleo leaped up and used her fingertips to do a "vanilla slamdunk". Her body was still far away from the net but she still sank it in.
ailey and pumped their arms in the air, exclaimed "Way to go Cleo!"
This whole game was mentally and physically exhausted like they were in the fray of one battle of war, but it has only been five minutes of an hour and a half game.
