Here's the latest chapter! I hope you all enjoy it!
The school year flew by and before Katrina knew it, it was time to the Christmas holidays. She sat in the Slytherin common room, waiting to bid her friends goodbye for the break. She had a blanket wrapped around her to keep the chill off since it was December and she did live in the dungeons of Hogwarts.
"Kat, here."
Katrina glanced up to find Draco holding out an envelope to her. She eyed it suspiciously.
"What's this?" she asked.
"An invitation to the Malfoy holiday ball that goes on every year. Your father has never came, but seeing as we might have the reason for why that was, my mother wanted me to extend the invite to you."
Katrina took the envelope. "But your mother hasn't ever met me."
"You're a Slytherin. We stick together," Draco said. "Perhaps I'll see over the break."
"Happy holidays, Malfoy."
"You too, Kat."
He went to walk away, but he stopped.
"Hey, Kat if you do come, don't hide it. Embrace it. It's part of you."
Katrina stared at his retreating back and her hand touched her scar. She had thought he had forgotten about it. A few people had seen it. Sadly, Pansy had been one of them and she would often tease her about it, but she kept her head up. She wouldn't let some mean girl ruin her time here.
Sighing, Katrina tucked the envelope into her notebook and waited patiently for her other friends.
Daphne came down and pulled her into a hug.
"I'll miss you over the break."
"Same here, Daph,"
"Did you get Malfoy's invitation?"
Katrina nodded her head and pointed to her notebook. "It's in there."
"Will you come?"
"I'm not sure yet, honestly."
"Please consider it. It'll be fun and I'm sure the others would enjoy seeing you over the break."
"I'll think about it. Happy holidays, Daph,"
"Happy holidays, Katrina."
Katrina gave a quick goodbye to Blaise and Nott since she had become acquainted with them through the term. She had even gotten to know Draco's goons that followed him around like bodyguards; Crabbe and Goyle, although she didn't spend much time with them and normally they were busy stuffing their faces.
Katrina picked up her notebook and made her way to her father's office so she could get her room sorted for the holidays.
As she entered his office, she found her father sitting at his desk grading the term papers of some older students.
"Have your friends left?" he asked.
"Yes. We have an invitation to the Malfoy holiday ball." Katrina said.
"Yes, they extend their invite every year."
"Can we go?"
"Those gatherings aren't for me. You're more than welcomed to go if you please, though."
"I would like to go."
Her father nodded his head, "I'll send word to Narcissa Malfoy."
Katrina nodded her head and she went to her room to get everything set how she wanted.
Before Katrina knew it, the night of the Malfoy Holiday Ball was here. It was only a few days before Christmas and Katrina and her friends had all decided to give their gifts to one another tonight. They would sneak off to one of the rooms in Malfoy Manor and distribute their presents.
Katrina looked at her appearance. She wore a knee length, green dress with black flats. The dress itself was sleeveless so she grabbed a black cardigan to wear over it. She had attempted to pull her hair up neatly, but it was being its unruly self. So she just settled on leaving it down and after brushing through it enough times, it looked presentable. She couldn't wear it up. She was too ashamed of the scar still, even if Draco had said to embrace it.
She walked out of her room and found her father sitting in his chair.
"Ready?" he asked.
She nodded her head.
"You look lovely," he said right before the two Apparated.
They were now outside of the Malfoy Manor which was as luxurious as Draco had made it out to seem. Katrina couldn't believe her eyes. Yet while it was luxurious, it also seemed a little frightening with its massive height and dark colored.
"Narcissa will send word when you wish to leave. Have fun and be on your best behavior."
"When am I not?"
Her father raised an eyebrow.
"I'll be good, Daddy. I promise,"
With a kiss to her hair, he vanished with a crack, and she knocked on the door. The door swung open by itself. She walked into the house and saw that coats and wraps were hanging by the door. She removed her own cardigan and hung it up and adjusted her purse which contained her gifts back on her shoulder.
She made her way through the house, following the sound of music. She instantly spotted Draco's platinum blonde hair and saw that he stood with a man with the same hair and a woman. Those had to be his parents.
He waved her over and she headed towards the three. She was trying her hardest to look like a proper Slytherin despite her unruly hair
"Glad to see you could make it, Kat." he said.
"Katrina Snape, it's nice to meet you." Katrina greeted his parents.
"Snape? It seems we finally know why Severus never came." the woman said.
"I'm Narcissa and this is my husband, Lucius."
... ...
Katrina had found Daphne sometime during the night and the two were chatting and catching up.
"I say it's time we exchange gifts." Daphne said.
Katrina nodded her head in agreement and the two set off to find their friends. Katrina found Blaise by the buffet table.
"Hello Blaise,"
"Katrina Snape, don't you clean up well." he greeted.
Katrina had quickly learned that even at eleven, Blaise was a smooth talker. She knew that as he got older he was going to be quite the flirt.
"Ever so smooth Zambini. We're meeting to exchange gifts soon. Any idea where I can find your best mate?"
"Parkinson has her hands on him."
Katrina rolled her eyes and looked to where Blaise's eyes were. She saw the two dancing on the floor, although by the grimace on Draco's face, he wasn't enjoying himself.
"This shall be fun."
Blaise chuckled at the smirk on Katrina's face.
"I expect a whine from Parkinson."
"Well of course."
With a smirk, Katrina walked onto the dance floor and tapped Draco's shoulder.
"Mind if I cut in?" Katrina asked, sweetly.
Draco looked over and saw Katrina.
"Kat?"
She smiled sweetly and laughed to herself as she was rewarded with Draco nodding and taking her hand. Her smile only widened as she heard Pansy whine and even stomp her foot.
"UGH! You'll pay for that Snape."
"I'm sorry, did you hear something?"
Draco coughed to cover up a laugh and Pansy stomped off.
You love making her mad." Draco commented.
"It brings me so much pleasure."
The two spun around.
"I came to save you from her horrible presence. So don't think anything into this."
"Of course,"
"It looked like you needed it, too."
"She kept stepping on my feet. You would think with all the classes on etiquette we had growing up she'd know how to dance."
"Well I don't either."
"You aren't stepping on my feet. Are you?"
She laughed.
"We're also exchanging presents. You coming?" Katrina asked as she broke from Draco's hold.
Draco followed after her.
Katrina, Draco, Blaise, Daphne, Crabbe, Goyle, and Theo were gathered in the library of the Malfoy Manor. Their gifts were beside them. Draco closed the door after he made sure no one had followed. They each distributed their gifts and then tore into their presents.
Katrina had received a charm bracelet from Daphne which contained a snake charm and the letter S on it, a book on Potions from Theo, a Slytherin scarf from Blaise, and some sweets from Crabbe and Goyle.
As she grabbed the final present from Draco she noticed it was small and a note was attached.
Kat,
I had noticed that Greengrass brought a bracelet with a few charms and figured to add some more to it. The bottle is because your favorite subject is Potions and the star is because you favor nighttime over daytime.
Merry Christmas,
Draco
Looking at the contents of the little box she found a small bottle charm and a star that was silver. She attached the two charms to the bracelet that she had already put on her wrist.
"Thanks guys, I love everything."
Katrina had gotten Daphne a pair of emerald green teardrop earrings. Theo had been gifted a book about his favorite Quidditch team. For Blaise she had picked out a emerald green tie since he liked to dress nicely. For Crabbe and Goyle she had baked some sweets for them. Draco she had had trouble with what to get him, but had decided to get him a pair of cufflinks that had a serpent on them. When she had saw them she knew she had to get them because they just screamed his name.
The end of the year was approaching quickly and exams had just ended. Katrina had passed everything, thankfully.
Katrina woke up as she felt pain coming from her scar.
"What?"
It felt like it was on fire. Her scar felt like it was burning her. She jumped out of her bed and crept quietly, but quickly to the bathroom. She ran over to the mirror and looked at her scar.
"Nothing."
The burning came again and this time it was intense. She screamed and gripped the sink, but that was all she could do before the pain was too much. Katrina was overcome with darkness.
Katrina could hear muffled voices. One voice was her father's, but she couldn't force her eyes open yet. Her mind was foggy as she tried to understand what was being said.
"…Her arms…exactly like his. This…"
She was losing the battle to try and wake up so she succumbed to sleep once again.
Groaning, Katrina opened her eyes and quickly realized she was in the hospital wing because of the fluorescent lights and seeing white curtains around her.
"What?"
The last thing she remembered was going into the bathroom because her scar was burning. She jumped, startled as she realized she wasn't alone. Her father was at the foot of her bed.
"Daddy, jeez you scared me."
"How do you feel?"
"Fine, but I'm conf-" she started, but as she pushed her hair back she saw bandages on her arms.
"Wait…what did I do?"
He sighed and he looked sad.
"Daddy?"
"I'm sorry, Rina."
Sorry why was he sorry? What was her sorry for? She was getting scared now.
She opened her mouth, but she stopped as her dad walked closer to her.
"This is for your safety."
The bandages were removed, her wounds healed, and she looked at her dad.
"Daddy?"
She was scared.
"It's to keep you safe."
"Obliviate." he said, raising his wand.
Katrina gasped, softly in shock, before her eyes clouded with confusion and then she fell back into the pillow, unconsious.
Severus Snape sighed and looked at his daughter. He hadn't wanted to do that, but if she knew that something that happened to her had also happened to Harry Potter she would question it and so would everyone else if they figured it out.
He brushed her hair back from her face and her eyes fluttered opened. She blinked and blinked again.
"Daddy?"
"How are you feeling?" he questioned as he backed away from her bed.
"I'm confused. What happened?"
"You had a terrible migraine and well it's had you here in the hospital wing for a few days. The pain was very intense that it caused you to pass out."
"I could've sworn it was because my scar was burning. I remember waking up because of pain in my scar."
"It must have been that intense that you felt it there as well."
She nodded her head.
"What day is it?"
"The term has finished. Today is the End of the Year Feast. Madam Pomfrey said you are free to go to it, if you would like."
"Yes!"
Katrina couldn't believe she had been unconscious for a few days and that the term was over. But at least she would get to spend one final day with her friends before they would leave for the summer.
"I can't believe our first year is over." Daphne said as she took a sip of her pumpkin juice.
"It seems like yesterday I was meeting you all." Katrina said.
"If only we hadn't had to meet you." Pansy muttered.
A shriek was heard as Pansy's soup exploded upwards and in her face.
"Hmm…might want to learn how to eat properly, Parkinson." Katrina commented.
Daphne stiffled a laugh and Draco huffed in annoyance as he wiped some of the soup from robes.
"If you're going to torment Parkinson, do it where I don't have to deal with it." he remarked.
"Aww, I'm so sorry, Drakie Poo." Katrina said in a sickly, sweet voice and using the nickname that Pansy had used countless of times.
Pansy screeched. "Why you!"
Draco meanwhile looked uncomfortable.
"Don't ever call me that again and stop talking like that. Wipe that smile from your face."
Katrina laughed, feeling accomplished in making Pansy annoyed and Draco uncomfortable.
As Dumbledore began his end of the year speech, Katrina was lost in thought. She was thinking of how her first year had gone. She had managed to make some of the best friends, although Draco and hers relationship depended on the day. Theo was still slightly awkward around her unless she was with Daphne, too. Blaise was proving to be a great friend. Then there was Daphne who had helped make her time in the dorms bearable with Pansy around. Katrina couldn't wait until next year.
She started when her table began cheering wildly and she realized that they had won the House Cup! The banners were green with their crest on display. They had beaten Harry Potter's house!
But as Dumbledore opened his mouth and began speaking, the Slytherin table quieted and stared in disbelief as the title was taken from them and given to Gryffindor because of the Golden Trio, as the Slytherin's pegged them, and Neville Longbottom had gained extra points, taking the House Cup. What exactly had gone on when she was in the Hospital Wing?
"What did I miss while I was in the Hospital Wing?"
"Just Potter showing out like he always does." Draco muttered.
"Why were you in the Hospital Wing anyway?" Daphne asked.
"A terrible migraine."
"Must of been some migraine. You were gone for three days!"
"I don't even remember it, honestly."
That night as Katrina fell asleep she had a strange dream. She saw herself staring at her reflection in the mirror, screaming and holding her scar, then she was staring at her arms that were bandaged. But when she woke the next morning, she didn't recall the dream.
She sighed and closed her trunk as it was now packed up. The dorm was just how it was when all the girls had first arrived, neat and spotless. Everything was packed up. Everyone was ready to board the Hogwarts Express to go back home for summer break.
Katrina was going to accompany her friends to the pickup point and then return back to the castle since that was where she would stay.
She walked down to the common room and sat on one of the couches until her friends came down.
It was hard to believe that her first year at Hogwarts was over. That the school year had ended and she was going to be in her second year once summer break was over. It seemed like just yesterday she was sorted and had gained some amazing new friends and a not so amazing nemesis who just happened to be in her House.
She smiled at Daphne as she came down.
"I'm gonna miss you." Daphne said, frowning slightly.
"It'll only be a couple of months and we can write one another, too." Katrina said.
"That's true. But I'm having to leave you. You've become like another sister to me."
Katrina got up and hugged Daphne, touched by her words.
"You are by far the best friend I could ever ask for. You're like my sister as well. Thank you for everything you did for me this year. Especially helping deal with pug face, Pansy."
Daphne tried to hold in her laugh, but that only made her end up letting out a snort instead, which caused both girls to double over laughing.
As the two laughed until they were practically crying, Katrina remembered how Daphne had helped when Pansy had once again hit at a touchy subject for her.
It was during the first month of the term. They were in Potions and while in that class, it was necessary at times to pull hair back. Her father had warned her of this since he knew she didn't like her scar and she had figured out a way to hide it. She would just flip her collar up when her hair was pulled back so it was hidden from prying eyes.
However, that particular day, her collar had decided to fall some. Pansy saw her scar.
"That's an eye sore. What happened there, Snape?"
Katrina stared at Pansy and she adjusted her collar.
"I don't know. I've had it for as long as I can remember."
"It only adds to the impurity of you. After all, you have a Muggle mother and you're a Half Blood. And you look like a Weasley with the red hair and freckles."
Katrina heard some of her classmates snicker and she had seen people glance at her scar before she covered it back up.
"How about you just shut your mouth, Pansy?" Daphne snapped.
"Well it looks-"
Daphne dropped a wrong ingredient into Pansy's potion causing it to explode and cause her skin to swell.
Pansy's scream filled the classroom and her father, who had been busy scolding Neville Longbottom's Potion had missed the whole ordeal, now looked over and saw the swelling of Pansy.
"She got what she deserved. Being that rude deserves ugliness. Are you okay?" Daphne asked.
Katrina was glad that she had Daphne. The boys; Draco, Blaise, and Theo joined them and they made their way towards the pickup point. Draco had said that he couldn't find Crabbe and Goyle and betted they were stuffing their faces still in the Great Hall. None of them had wanted to wait so they figured they would see them at the pickup point.
The group of friends stood in the crowd of students. Everyone was saying goodbye to one another, crying, laughing, some more eager to get onto the Hogwarts Express than others.
"I'm gonna miss you." Daphne said as she pulled Katrina into a hug.
"Me too, Daph." Katrina said as she hugged back.
"Promise to write?"
"Of course,"
The two pulled away and Daphne wiped at her eyes.
"I'm gonna go ahead and find a compartment or else I'll get even more upset."
"See you in a few months." Katrina called.
She told Crabbe and Goyle goodbye once they made their way over, before they left to board the train.
"Well it's been a pleasure, Katrina." Blaise said, charmingly.
She laughed. "I'll see you next year. Take care,"
"You as well,"
"See you in a few months, Snape." Theo said.
"See you, Theo."
That now left her and Draco alone.
"Well Malfoy, I guess I'll see you in a few months." Katrina said.
"I guess so, Kat. Make sure you write to Greengrass. Your birthday will be over the break, right?"
"Yes, it will."
"I'll write you and send you a gift."
"I'll hold you to that, Malfoy."
She saw Pansy looking over at the two of them. She smirked to herself and pulled Draco into a hug.
"Thanks for everything you did this year."
He seemed shocked for a moment, but he hugged her back.
"Of course. Maybe next year we can get you to embrace it more."
She pulled back and looked at him. "Highly doubtful."
He bent slightly since he was taller than her and his lips graced her cheek.
"There's nothing wrong with you, no matter what Parkinson says to you. You're a Slytherin and we stick together. She shouldn't be going after you anyways."
She was stunned and she could feel that her cheeks were warm. She heard a shriek and knew Pansy had seen the kiss.
"I- I'll see you next term."
"See you, Kat."
With that all of her friends were on the train now so she decided to make her way back to the castle. Boy would she have a story to tell Daph when she wrote her first letter. Why had Draco decided to do that?
Somedays they fought like cats and dogs. The others they got along perfectly fine. It all just depended on the day, but Draco was definitely her best guy friend out of all of them.
