This is my second attempt at a Sailor Moon story - I started thinking about it as I was watching all 200 episodes courtesy of family Christmas presents.

Usagi, Ami, Rei, Makoto and Minako are 22, Haruka and Michiru are 24, Hotaru is 15, Setsuna is 27 (I'm guessing here) and Mamoru is 26 – this is all in line with their ages as seen at the very end of Sailor Stars (as near as I can tell anyway haha) and with an added 6 years so that only Hotaru is still in school.

Italics used without apostrophes places emphasis on a word, when used with the apostrophes denotes speaking mind to mind.

Sailor Moon and all related characters are the property of Naoko Takeuchi, I'm just borrowing them temporarily. Any new characters are of my own creation.

Chapter 1

The wind whistled through the trees, blowing dead leaves and a light dusting of snow around as the moon vanished from the sky. The ground remained perfectly clear in the circle of early winter trees stripped of leaves, night time hunters returned to their homes ahead of the encroaching day and the day time hunters not yet stirring.

She only had a short window to complete this spell in perfect darkness, before life returned once again with the rising of the sun and made it all but impossible. Such a short window of time to reduce her to nothing more than a shell the healers wouldn't be able to save. Then her beloved, who had been brainwashed against her by that interfering woman, would be hers once again.

'I hope you have a short and dreary life in the underdeveloped hell I'm sending you to.'

With the softest of noises, she began her spell.

The spirit of the air watched the black witch begin her evil spell and immediately started plotting how to save its queen.

Listening to the flow of time beyond the Time Gate, Pluto was disturbed from the peace the sound brought her by a distant discordant note ringing across the vast nothingness she stood in. She turned to eye the large double doors, aware that whenever she heard that noise, something was about to happen that would change the future she guarded so closely. She lifted the garnet rod, opening the doors as her senses spread out only to find the noise was getting softer the longer she stood there.

'Whatever is coming must not be happening today.'

She called time forward by a day and stepped back to the Gate as the discordant noise grew louder. Opening the doors again, she panned her internal gaze from one side of the world to the other.

The noise became a clamouring that surrounded her as a brilliant light appeared in the sky and arrowed in towards Tokyo. As it vanished, Pluto's sense of the future changed drastically and after listening to time flow for another minute, she again pushed time forward before stepping out of the Gate into what was supposed to be Crystal Tokyo.

All around her was ruins and death.

She stepped back into the present and pulled out her phone.

"I know the three of you were only intending to remain in the city until morning, but you should stay another few days. Both our princess and the future she brings about are in grave danger."

Usagi smiled as she daydreamed about how perfect the night before had been. She and Mamoru had thrown an epic pre-wedding/post-graduation/house warming party at their new home and had invited all of their closest friends and family. Then they had christened their new bed together once the party was over and everyone had left. Breakfast that morning had been a little tense, but considering her father still wasn't altogether happy with the whole situation of his baby girl being grown up enough to get married, she wasn't overly surprised. At least he finally seemed to be warming up to her fiancé at long last.

Now Mamoru was driving her to the dress shop for the final fitting of her wedding dress and though she was excited about that, something about being away from him today was making her incredibly nervous. She wasn't the one who got the premonitions in their group of friends, but right now this almost felt like something Rei had once described to her.

"I wish I could postpone this dress fitting and spend the whole day with you Mamo-chan."

He shot her a brief look of surprise. "You've talked about this all week Usako, what's changed?"

She sighed heavily. "I don't know. I just have this really sinking feeling in my stomach. Stupid right? It isn't like I can push the fitting back anyway since we are getting married in two days. But I know something just isn't right."

"Is it the pre-wedding jitters your mother mentioned is normal?"

"No, this feels nothing like what she described. I was just thinking that it felt a bit like how Rei describes some of her premonitions can feel. Except that I don't get premonitions of doom so I've no idea of what this feeling actually means."

He pulled into a space in front of the dress shop and parked, causing her to jump slightly as she eyed her friends nervously where they stood waiting for her. "Usako, you are surrounded by love and some of the most kick-ass heroines we know. Nothing is going to go wrong, and in a couple of hours, I'll be picking you up and we'll be laughing about the whole thing."

Pulling in air and then exhaling it slowly, she turned to him with a smile. "You're right. I'm worrying for nothing. I'm going to go in there, have fun and see you in a few hours."

"And if anything does happen, you can call me and I'll come right back."

Her heart did a happy little flip at that proclamation and she leaned in to kiss him. Obviously, they got lost in each other because the kiss only broke when the car door opened and someone started pulling on her arm. They exchanged laughing I love you's as Rei dragged her towards the shop.

Another shiver of unease slid over her as they followed the others into inside, causing Rei to stop and eye her closely.

"What was that?"

"I'm not sure, but keep your eyes and spirit open just in case, okay?"

"Usagi."

"Fine." She explained what she had been feeling in the car on the drive over. Rei listened carefully and then nodded slowly.

"I've been feeling it too, as have Haruka and Michiru. Frankly though, I'm surprised that you are feeling it because that definitely isn't like you. But I'll keep all my senses open and we'll get the girls to keep their eyes peeled as well."

"Thanks for not just brushing me off Rei. It helps knowing that you believe me."

"Good. Now, let's go get this one done so we can get you somewhere more secure.

An hour and a half later Rei's senses screamed danger at her and she shouted, "Everybody down." She lunged at Usagi, who was already throwing herself off the platform she stood on as the noise of air roaring all around them accompanied a brilliant beam of light that blinded everyone.

'Hello? Can anyone hear me?' 'I hear you.' 'Who are you and where is here?' 'I'm Usagi and this is Tokyo?' 'Tokyo?' 'In Japan. Who are you?' 'Where is Japan? What planet?' 'How about you tell me who you are first?' 'No time. I'm so sorry. Take care of my husband for me and beware of Morg…'

The bright light and noise lasted only a few seconds before the noise stopped and the light reversed course. As the black spots caused by the light faded, they found Usagi in a heap on the floor and Rei trying to rouse her as she grew more and more frantic. Ami, Minako and Makoto rushed to them as everyone started talking all at once. Minutes later Makoto shouted, "Someone call an ambulance."
