Olivia sat at her desk. At 39 weeks, she was uncomfortable and ready for the baby to arrive. She'd been on desk duty for several months and was tired of that too. She was going to lunch with Elliot in a few minutes and was eager to stretch out and walk.

They were walking back from lunch, when Olivia slipped and fell, landing hard on her side before Elliot could react. "What happened?" he asked, kneeling beside her immediately, as people stopped to offer help.

"I don't know," Olivia said in shock.

"I'm Mina, I'm an OB nurse, said a woman coming up to them. Can I help?" After Olivia murmured agreement, Mina waved the rest of the bystanders off. "It looked like you fell down pretty hard, and you definitely need to get checked out. I'm going to call an ambulance."

"It will be here in less than 5 minutes," she told Olivia once she got off the phone. "Are you having any abdominal pain or cramping?" She asked. Olivia shook her head. "Good. How far along are you?"

"39 weeks," Olivia answered shakily.

"I know this is scary but we're going to get you to the hospital and checked out right away. I know you're worried about the baby, but are you hurt anywhere?"

"I don't think so," Olivia said.

"Good. What hospital are you planning to deliver at?"

"NYU," Elliot answered.

"That's actually where I work, so I can come with you in the ambulance," she told them.

"Thank you," Elliot told her, "you've been such a big help."

The paramedics brought Olivia immediately into a trauma room in the ER, but the doctors quickly ruled out any injuries as the obstetrician set up the ultrasound machine.

"The baby looks fine," the doctor told her reassuringly. "Her heart rate is good, and there are no signs of distress. The fact that you aren't cramping or bleeding is also encouraging. I'd like to keep you for observation for at least the next eight hours so we can keep monitoring both of you."

After Olivia was moved to a room in OB triage, Elliot updated both their teams. He'd texted Cragen and his supervisor from the ambulance but knew they were both concerned. He also texted his kids, who'd been checking in frequently the last few weeks.

Once she was settled in, Olivia started to cry. "Do you want me to hold you?" Elliot asked. Olivia nodded. He got on the bed behind her, careful of the monitors.

"It's just scary," Olivia cried. "I was so worried about Nora. I'm still scared."

"I know," he answered, holding her comfortingly. "I was scared for both of you too."

An hour later, Olivia felt a gush of water come out onto the sheets of the hospital bed, and Elliot called the nurse, who came in quickly.

"The fluid is completely clear," the nurse told them, "which is a good sign. No meconium." At their blank faces, she explained what that meant, then added, "but also no blood, which is important after your fall. They'll definitely admit you since your water broke".

Olivia sighed. "This is not at all how I thought this would happen," she said.

"I know," Elliot said, holding her hand.

When Olivia was moved from triage into a room on labor and delivery, she and Elliot were both surprised to see Mina. "I came in with you right before my shift started," Mina told them, "so I'm going to be your nurse." Olivia smiled, happy to have Mina there. "I know you've gone from the ER to triage to here," Mina said. "Let's get you settled in and comfortable."

After 12 hours of labor and 2 hours of pushing, Olivia was exhausted. "You're almost done," her doctor told her. "I can see her hair. You are doing really well. You just need about three or four more really strong pushes." Elliot supported her, murmuring encouragement. "The head is almost out," the doctor said, "you're doing great." Olivia cried out in pain as she pushed. "Her head is out, that was the hardest part." Olivia pushed again. "Good job, here she is," the doctor said, as Olivia heard Nora start to cry. Olivia laid back, exhausted, while the doctor cut the cord and Elliot brought Nora over. Olivia grunted in pain again. "This is the placenta coming out," the doctor told her. "It will be much faster and easier."

A little while later, after both she and Nora had been examined and gotten cleaned up, Olivia sat up in bed holding their daughter. "Nora," she said in awe. Her daughter's whole head was covered in dark hair. "She's beautiful," she said to Elliot.

"She is, she looks just like you," Elliot responded. "I'm so proud of you. Can I hold her so you can get some sleep?" He kissed Olivia's head then lovingly picked up Nora. "Rest now," he told Olivia, "I love you, Liv." "And I love you, Nora Bernadette Benson-Stabler, he said as he gazed at his daughter. Olivia fell asleep watching him hold their new daughter.
