Love Happens in the Strangest of Places

A/N: Over the last month or two I've been getting into writing one-shots and drabbles. So in addition to that I've been going through my computer to see what I have that I can work on or I can turn into a one-shot/drabble. If you guys have any ideas or pairings that you would to see me write about, send me your ideas through PM. TIA. Enjoy!

Rory POV

It had been ten years since I graduated high school. I'd definitely had my ups and downs since then. After I'd turned down Logan's proposal, I hadn't been able to get a steady journalism career which I'm sure Mitchum had a part to play in. But never the less, I'd still remained friends with the Yale crew. Logan and Steph had gotten married 4 years ago and were expecting their first child. That had been strange to say the least.

***Flashback four and a half years ago***

I was sitting on my couch reading a magazine before I had to go meet Finn and Colin for dinner. Steph had moved out to California to be with Logan. It had been strange for both Colin and I when we found out that they were together. So ever since then, Finn, Colin and I got together once a week and had dinner.

While I was waiting, my cell rang. I picked it up and saw that Logan was calling. I quickly answered. "Hey." I said.

"Hey. Is this a bad time?" He asked me.

"Nope. I got time before I have to meet tweedle dee and tweedle dum." I said.

Logan laughed. "Yeah, they mentioned that you guys get together." He said.

"What's up?" I asked.

"So I wanted you to hear it from me, I asked Steph to marry me." He said.

"Logan that's great. We've moved past everything. I told you that last time you were here. I just want you to be happy and if Steph makes you happy then I'm happy for you." I told him.

"Thanks Ror. Listen we'll be in town next weekend. Can we grab lunch or dinner?" He asked.

"Sure. Just let me know." I said.

***End Flashback***

Their wedding had definitely been interesting. Shira nearly fainted when she found out that I was Steph's maid of honor. She looked like she wanted to kick me out of the wedding. But Logan and Steph wouldn't let her. During the reception I'd run into the last person that I never thought that I'd see again. It ended up being a great night.

***Flashback…4 years ago…Logan and Steph's wedding reception***

I was standing at the bar waiting on my drink when I noticed that someone was standing beside me. I turned and looked at them. Tristan. "Tristan." I said.

"Rory. How are you?" He asked me.

"I'm good. How about you?" I asked him.

"I'm good. I didn't know that you were going to be here let alone be Steph's maid of honor." He said.

"I met Logan and Steph at Yale." I said as the bartender handed me my drink. I took a drink of it.

"Ah. I guess being at Yale is why I never saw you around Harvard then?" He said.

"You looked for me at Harvard?" I asked him.

He nodded. "Yeah. I remembered you saying that Harvard was your dream."

Not wanting to think too much about it, I said, "Yale was closer to home. Made it easier to go home on the weekends."

The bartender handed him a drink. "Makes sense." He said taking a drink. "You look good." He said.

I smiled at him. "You too." I said. "I should get back to my table." I told him.

"I'll be seeing you." He said, as I walked away.

I sure hope so.

***End Flashback***

When I arrived at the restaurant to meet the guys, I was surprised when I got to the table. "Tristan." I said.

"Hey Ror. Good to see you." He said, standing up to hug me.

"Thanks. You too." I told him. I sat down across from him. "Where's Colin and Finn?" I asked him.

"Not sure. I told Colin that I was back in Hartford for good and he invited me for dinner." Tristan said.

I pulled my phone out of my purse and checked my messages. I had two. One from each of them. They were bailing. This was a set up. "They're not coming. Something came up." I told him.

"They both had something come up?" He asked me. I nodded. "That's suspicious."

"I know." I said. The waitress came over and poured us each a glass of wine. This was awkward. I hadn't seen Tristan since we'd run into each other in New York 6 months ago. We'd had dinner, lots of drinks and had ended up sleeping together. The morning after, I'd woken up and he was gone. I took a drink of my wine.

"Are you gonna look at me." He said. I looked over at me. "Are we gonna talk at all?" He asked.

"What do you want me to say? I mean, clearly you regretted it. I never heard from you." I said.

"I'm sorry Rory. Okay. I'm sorry." He said.

"Okay, fine. Your sorry. Do you feel better?" I asked him.

"No. I feel like crap. The time between the wedding and New York, I couldn't get you out of my head. Then I found out that you'd dated Logan. And not only dated him, but you were almost engaged to him." Tristan said.

"That was years ago. What does Logan even have to do with this?" I asked.

"He's my cousin." Tristan said. "He saw us talking at the wedding and wondered how we knew each other." He said. I took a drink of my wine. This was too much. "I mentioned you to him once. Only I used your nickname that I gave you at Chilton, so when you guys dated he didn't think anything about it."

"You talked about me?" I asked him. He nodded. "Why?"

"Rory, I liked you…a lot. Then I saw you at the wedding and I thought that just maybe, it was the universe's way of telling me that we might have a chance. Or second chance I guess. So when I found out that you'd dated Logan, I tried to push you out of my head. But I couldn't. And then I ran into you in New York. And I decided that I was done trying to fight what I wanted." He said. I could see in his eyes that he meant it. "But then I woke up the next morning and I was laying there watching you sleep and I knew that I was in love with you. It was more than what I already felt. It was more than a physical connection. I realized that I was completely in love with you." He said.

Part of me felt like I was living in a dream. After I'd seen Tristan at the wedding, I'd realized then that I was in love with him. But I didn't know that Tristan, I still knew the Tristan from high school. But I wanted to get to know the Tristan that he was now. I reached across the table and touched his hand. "Tristan, I realized that I loved you when we ran into each other at the wedding." I said and Tristan got this big grin on his face. "But I'm not going to lie…when I woke up after our night together in New York, I was hurt. Waking up that morning and finding you gone made me feel like you regretted our night. I understand that finding out that Logan and I had history was a lot to take in but if you had asked me about our history, I could have told you my side of things. But hear me when I say this…I feel like we don't know the people that we are now. I feel like we need to take the time to get to know each other as the people we are now." I said.

Tristan looked deep in thought for a moment. "So what do you suggest?" He asked me.

"Well…" I said, leaning back in my chair, "I suggest that we date like normal people and get to know each other." I said with a smirk.

Tristan leaned back in his chair as I took a drink of my wine. "Can we hold hands?" He asked.

I nodded. "Yes."

"Can we kiss?"

"Of course." I said.

"Can we make out?" He asked me.

"It's encouraged."

"Sex?"

I thought for a minute before I answered. "I think we should hold off for a while. Sex can sometimes mess up relationships." I said.

"I love you Ror." He said.

I smiled at him. "I love you too Tris." I said before I leaned over and kissed him.
