Nora was lying on her play mat playing happily with her feet when Elliot came home. He laughed as he watched her looking at her feet in wonder. "Did you discover your feet, Nora?" He asked. Nora laughed, delighted.
"That was your first laugh, Nora!" Liv exclaimed. "You've giggled, but that was a real laugh!" She beamed at Nora, and Nora laughed again.
"You're getting so big, owlet," Elliot said, picking her up. Nora nestled contently into her Daddy's arms.
Elliot had the weekend off, and they took Nora on a walk in Central Park the next day. Nora looked around with interest, as they pointed out trees, bikes and dogs to her. Elliot was wearing her in the carrier, and she kicked her legs happily as they walked.
When they got home, Elliot played peek-a-boo with her while Liv held her. "Peek-a-boo," he said, covering his eyes. "I see you!" Where is Nora?" He asked, covering his eyes again. "There you are!" Nora laughed, delighted at the new game.
After her nap, Liv brought out Nora's stuffed owl, which hadn't played with yet. She couldn't hold it yet, so Elliot held it in front of her as Liv held Nora in her lap.
Nora looked at the owl in surprise, and her parents both laughed. "Feel how soft it is, Nora," Elliot told her, bringing her hands to the toy. Nora's eyes grew bigger as she touched the soft toy. Then she tried to put her face into it. "Here," Elliot said laughing, bringing it up to her face. "You can snuggle owl." Nora pressed her face against the toy delightedly and cooed away.
"Are you talking to the owl?" Liv asked. "She's been trying to talk to the animals on her play-mat too," she said to Elliot.
"Are you making friends with all the animals, Nora?" Elliot asked, as Nora continued gurgling and cooing at the owl.
As they got Nora ready for bed, Olivia said, "it's incredible to watch her grow and discover things. She's so excited about everything. It's amazing to see her sense of wonder and awe."
"It is incredible," Elliot said. "And I'm grateful to get to spend more time at home with her. It was hard to miss so much time when my older kids were babies."
He wrapped his arms around Liv once Nora was in her crib. "I love you. You're an incredible mother. I love getting to experience parenting again with you."
"Me too," said Liv, relaxing into Elliot's arms.
