Elliot and Liv were giving Nora a bath. She splashed in her little tub, as Liv held her and Elliot gently washed her. She laughed as he rubbed soap over her stomach. "Does that tickle, Nora?" He asked. She kicked her legs and brought her hands down on the water, delighted as it splashed over her. "All done," Elliot said, as he finished gently rinsing her hair. He brought her hooded towel with the owl face and wrapped her in it. "Where is Nora?" He asked, as he placed her on the changing table to dry her off, covering her face with the towel. "Here she is!" Nora laughed happily. He dried her off and put her into her pajamas, gently combing her hair. "I can't believe how much hair she has," he said. "I
don't think her brother or sisters had this much hair until they were a year old." Nora had a head full of fine dark hair, and her eyes were still a luminous blue like her Dad's. Nora yawned and rubbed her eyes.
"I know, love," Liv said. "I know you're getting so tired." She took Nora and nursed her in the rocking chair, as Elliot turned down the lights. Once Liv had finished nursing her, Elliot rocked Nora under his mom's blanket and gently placed her in her crib. "Good-night, Nora," he murmured. "I love you."
The next morning, when Liv heard Nora cooing, she went into her room and said, "Good-morning, Nora!" Nora looked up when Liv said her name and smiled. "Are you starting to know your name?" Liv wondered.
At breakfast, she and Elliot said "Nora," repeatedly, and she looked up, laughing each time. "You know your name, owlet," Liv said, delightedly. "You're such a big girl now!" Nora, who was in her swing while Elliot and Liv ate breakfast, made happy noises.
A few days later, Liv lay on the floor with Nora during tummy time when Nora rolled onto her back, looking surprised. Liv kissed her in delight. "You rolled over, sweet girl!" She went and got her phone. "Do you want to do it again so we can show Daddy when he gets home?" Nora rolled onto her back again while Liv videoed her and seemed just as surprised, although she happily kicked her legs once she was on her back.
Liv waited to tell Elliot, hoping Nora would roll over again when he got home so he could see her do it in person.
Elliot got home early, and Nora had napped, nursed and was happily playing in her bouncy chair when he came in. He kissed Liv, then scooped Nora up. "What did you do today, Nora?" He asked. "Did you have a good day?"
"Someone did something brand new today," Liv said.
"Was it you, owlet?" Elliot asked in exaggerated confusion, "or was it Mama?" Nora giggled at the silly faces her Daddy was making.
"Can you show Daddy what you learned, love?" Liv asked. She put Nora on her tummy on her play mat, and Nora smiled happily at her parents. "Come on, Nora," Liv encouraged her. "What did you learn today?" Nora rolled onto her back.
"Look at you!" Elliot exclaimed, leaning over her in delight and kissing her. "You're such a big girl, rolling over all by yourself." Nora looked pleased with herself and kicked happily and grabbed the duck from the play mat. She made happy gurgles to the duck as though she was trying to talk to it, and both her parents laughed.
"She's almost four months," Liv said. "It feels like she's doing something new every day."
"You are, aren't you, owlet?" Elliot said, as they watched her trying to chatter to the duck.
