Elliot heard Nora making happy sounds in her crib. He went into her room and she beamed at him and reached her arms up. "Daddy's here, Nora. Good morning, owlet." She laughed happily as he picked her up. He tickled her tummy lightly and she giggled delightedly.
"Where is Mommy, Nora?" Elliot asked, as he brought her into their bedroom. Liv hid her face under the comforter and then peeked out. "There is Mommy!" Nora gurgled and cooed at Liv.
"Are you hungry, love?" Liv asked, reaching out for Nora. Nora nestled against Liv, nursing. When she was finished, she let out a content little sigh.
While Elliot was at work, Liv took Nora on a long walk in her carrier. She looked around with interest as they walked through Central Park. She kicked her legs back and forth as they walked. It was warm enough that Liv hadn't put socks on Nora, and she seemed excited to have her feet and toes bare.
When Elliot got home, Liv and Nora were reading together. They still enjoyed reading story books to her, but Nora had just gotten interested in books that crinkled and made sounds, especially her favorite one about a puppy looking for it's mom. Nora was so engrossed in holding the book and making crinkle sounds, she didn't notice Elliot until he scooped her up. She squealed in delight as he held her up.
She hadn't let go of her book. "Are you reading your puppy book?" Elliot asked. "Should Nora and Daddy read about puppy?" He sat and held her as she played with her book.
While Elliot and Liv ate dinner, Nora lay on her back on her play mat, sucking her toes. "Are you trying to see how many toes you can fit in your mouth?" Liv asked, laughing. "I don't blame you. Your toes are so delicious." Nora squawked in protest as Liv picked her up. "I know, love, I know you're having so much fun playing with your toes but it's time to get ready for bed."
Liv nursed Nora, Elliot rocked her, and they both hugged and kissed her good-night before
putting her in her crib, where she sleepily sucked her thumb.
Elliot and Liv relaxed in the living room. "She's incredible," Liv said, "getting to watch her discover new things every day and her delight in the world." Elliot smiled fondly at her. "She is completely incredible, just like her mom."
"Her Dad's incredible too, you know," Liv teased.
"You are such an extraordinary mom. It's so natural."
"Thank you. It helps that you know what you're doing," Liv said, laying back against him. She leaned over and kissed him.
