Among Us. This was named after the French meaning of arc.
The scrawny, six-foot, blond, seventeen-year-old boy wondered why he was on a roof. To recap, his partner, the four-time champion of Mistral fighting tournament, Pyrrha Nikos, brought him here after a long school day. Honestly, he wasn't feeling well. The world seemed to remind him that he didn't belong in Beacon Academy. His grades were horrible; he was at the bottom of the board in combat class, and the bullying from one ginger bully was the icing on the foul-tasting cake life gave him.
"Uh, Pyrrha, I know I'm feeling down, but I'm not that depressed. I can always be a farmer or something," he said while looking at the thirty-foot drop.
"What? No!" Pyrrha hurriedly grabbed him and pulled him by his uniform collar to the center of the roof.
"That's not why I brought you up here. Jaune, I know you're having a difficult time in class, and you're still not the strongest of fighters, so I wanna help you."
"Wha?" One word, but it came out with so much pain. Unfortunately, Pyrrha didn't notice, but they both noticed the bark of Cardin Winchester.
"That's the funniest thing I heard. He can't get better. Hey, guys, hear this Juniper's leader needs help learning how to walk from his teammates. He can barely call himself a Huntsman in training. Now his team is revolting." A chorus of jeers and mocking followed.
Pyrrha grabbed his hand and led him away from the roof. "Come on, let's finish this in our room. I should've checked for people listening, sorry Jaune." She flashed him an apologetic smile but she couldn't find Jaune with his head lowered and face partly covered by his bangs. The walk back to their dorm was silent. They even ignored the rising stars Team Ruby coming back from dinner. When they entered their other teammates were waiting for them.
"Guys! You're back. How was your late-night rendezvous?" Nora Valkyrie - their hyperactive, hammering grenadier - asked with a playful smile.
"Good to have you guys back. Did you sort everything out?" Lie Ren - their dual-wielding stoic gun-slinging ninja - asked with a questioning gaze.
"No," Pyrrha sighed, "we were interrupted by Cardin and his team."
"Time to break their legs," the Valkyrie explained with one fist to the air.
"Nora, we can't break their legs," Ren said as if this was an everyday thing. Which it was, by the way. Although, many problems could go away by breaking someone's legs.
"Aww," she deflated at the denial from her partner.
"But you can go extra hard on them in combat class," he said with a knowing smirk.
"Yes," her happy mood returned like clockwork.
"As I was saying Jaune we train can after class where no one can bother us. I'm pretty sure Nora and Ren wouldn't mind helping out. Right guys?" She looked to her teammates hoping for something.
"Oh totally," shouted Nora, "I got this training regime that can make you even bigger than that big dummy Cardin."
"While I doubt Jaune wants to have that much muscle, I would be happy to help as well." Jaune looked at each of his teammates with disbelief. He heard a mumble from their door but didn't give it any heed.
"You guys think I need help?" Jaune asked while scratching the back of his head.
"No, no, that's not what we mean," Pyrrha interjected.
"But you just said it, and you agreed with her," he said, pointing to his other teammates.
"Jaune, everybody needs a little push from time to time," Pyrrha said while moving some of her red hair out of the way.
"Yeah, fearless leader, there's no way I became this badass all by myself. It's the same as Renny; he wasn't always so ninja-ie," Nora said while using her hands like a mask for a ninja. Ren simply nodded in agreement.
"See, we all weren't as strong as we are today." Jaune looked away from his team in shame. "You made it to Beacon. That speaks volumes of what you're capable of."
"You're wrong," Jaune said while turning his back to his team.
"Yes, you-" the bubbly bomber was cut short by her partner and saw him shaking his head.
"You're all wrong. I-I don't belong here."
"That's a terrible thing to say you do-" unfortunately, no one was there to stop the metaphorical bomb from exploding on them all.
"No, I don't," Jaune snapped, and then he sighed after seeing the shocked expression on Pyrrha's face. "I wasn't accepted into Beacon." He turned again to the door.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, I didn't go to combat school, I didn't pass any test, I didn't earn my spot at this academy. I lied," he turned to his teammates with tears brimming from his eyes. "I got my hand on some fake transcripts, and I lied." No one said a thing. The ever-stoic ninja seemed to actually show emotion, the emotional Valkyrie lost all feeling, and the champion lost all confidence.
Pyrrha opened her mouth to say something but was cut short by the shout from the other side of their door. "He what! I'm going to find the Headmaster right now."
"Weiss wait, I'm sure there is a good explanation for this," said the leader of team Ruby, Ruby Rose.
"No fucking way, I knew there was something up with vomit boy," muttered Yang.
"Wow," said Blake. Then all in one action, as if the Pyrrha, Ren, and Nora had a mind-reading semblance, moved with the same purpose. They almost blinded Jaune with their speed. The door was flung opened, and their sister team was kidnapped into their room.
"Hey, what's the big idea? Why are you guys kidnapping us?" Asked Yang.
"You three can't be serious. We have to tell the staff that we have an imposter in our midst. He could get you three killed," Weiss said while pointing to the subject of discussion. Who was now on his bed after the successful operation kidnapped Team RWBY.
"Can we all just calm down? Besides this was a private conversation, but someone had to butt in," Ruby pointedly looked at her sister.
Yang crossed her arms and stared down at Ruby. "Well, it's obviously becoming a good idea. He could get his team killed, and you, Rubes. You won't be hanging out with him from here on out."
"Wha," Ruby stared at her sister incredulously, "you can't decide who I make friends with; you're not dad.
"Yeah, but I'm the older sibling, and I'm trying to keep you safe. So just listen to me; Blake, back me up here," she motioned to her black-haired teammate.
"While they're not wrong about Jaune," Ruby was flabbergasted, "you can't choose who she chooses to be her friend Yang." Then Yang was flabbergasted.
"Well I for one am going to tell the staff as soon we get out of here. As a matter of fact, I'll call Miss Goodwitch right now," Weiss said while pulling out her scroll, which was promptly pulled out of her hand and the rest of her team's devices by an invisible force. Then they were chucked out the opened window and closed by Nora.
"Now that we have your attention, why don't we hear what Jaune has to say about why he went to such drastic measures," Ren said, cutting them out of their pending team squabble. All eyes turned to the now crying Jaune Arc. His dream, so close, was gone and probably for good. His team might be helping him, but he wasn't getting any favors from most of Team RWBY.
"Well, come one Arc, we're all waiting to hear your lousy excuse," Weiss said. A hand fell on top of her shoulder and saw something on her leader's face she never thought possible. Anger.
"You will sit there and be quiet. That goes for both of you as well," she motioned to her stunned teammates. "If any of you say anything insensitive to him while he's like this or mocks his dream tonight. I will personally ask you to be removed or I to be removed from our team. Do you understand?" They all nodded their heads and promptly shut up. She then turned to Jaune with hopeful eyes. "Go on Jaune; no one will stop you." He looked around, and his teammates nodded in agreement.
"I-I wanted to be a hero. To be a Huntsman is want I always wanted to be like the rest of my family." He started to shed a couple of tears. "I want to stop being the lovable idiot stuck in the tree or getting his ass beaten by Cardin. I have tried and tried and tried to get training, but I was never given a chance. Not by my father and not by anyone else. I just want to help people. I just," then his tears doubled, "I just want to be someone that people can look up to, but," he looked toward his teammates, "if I can't do this on my own, then what good am I. Apparently not good enough because they're right. I can and probably will get you all ki- ki-," Jaune broke down.
The rest of Team Juniper rushed over to their team leader and gave him shoulders to cry on. Even the tiny reaper rushed over to be an emotional pillar for the boy. He cried and cried for an unknown amount of time. The outside world seemed to halt, and the only thing that could be heard was the sounds of a sobbing knight.
When his crying seemed to die down into hics, Ruby spoke, "Look, Jaune, you and I both read enough comic books to know that every hero has a team behind them. Helping them improve and it's not always every step of the way. But everyone needs help, it doesn't make anyone anything less."
"But-" Jaune said through his sobbing form.
"Nope," Ruby said a matter of factly.
"Ruby, you can't-" Jaune tried but was cut short by Nora with a smile.
"Nope."
"Come you two; you can't just-"
"Nope," said Pyrrha.
Jaune opened his mouth, only for him to be cut short by Ren. "Nope."
"But I need to-"
"Nope," was flying across the room with a pillow. They all turned to see Yang smiling somberly. "Sallow that pride vomit boy. I didn't become this badass all by myself. So I'm going to help you with hand to hand. If the training I give will save Ruby in the future, and you seem to matter a lot to her. I'm going to train you with no exceptions."
"Hey, who said you could steal Jaune-Jaune from us?!" Nora exclaimed with no heat behind her voice.
"Whose says I'm stealing him? You guys can join."
"Ooo ooo, we can do my training regime, and you'll be kicking the Grimm's butt in no time."
"I got Jaune covered in Aura control," Ren added his two cents.
"I can teach him sword and shield play," Pyrrha said excitedly.
"Oh, we have to get you a gun," Ruby said like a puppy hyped up on sugar, "can I please help you find one. You need a range option, and who better to teach you marksmen ship than me."
"I don't know about that one, Ruby. I might be better. I doubt Jaune wants a or can even handle a long-ranged weapon," Blake said. Everyone looked toward Weiss expectantly and with a dangerous glint in their eyes. Only promising pain in her future if she failed to answer correctly. Even Blake, the most reserved one out of the bunch. Right next to Ren, that is.
"Ugh, fine," she threw her hands into the air, "I guess Arc has a noble enough goal to continue his tenure here. But I will be teaching you about Dust. So once we get started, you better not fail a single test." Jaune looked at all of his friends, who all smiled back at him.
"Guys, I truly appreciate the idea, but I really don't belong here. After all, my parents expected me to fail when I told them I was going to Beacon." Their smiles faded until the last person they expected spoke up.
"You listen here, Arc," Weiss Schnee marched up in all her five-foot glory and pointed to her scar. "I fought an Arma Gigas to get here. That was my father's deal for me to attend Beacon. If I failed wouldn't become a Huntress in training at this school. I wouldn't have become a Huntress in training at all probably. He expected me to fail. He set it up for me to fail. So, believe me when I say I know what that is like. So shut up and accept our help because you do deserve it. After hearing what you said, I believe. I mean we all believe in you. You deserve your chance." Jaune started to tear up again.
"Guys, I don't ever think I can repay you all." A chorus of nopes sang through the room and then laughter. Once they all calmed down, Yang spoke.
"So you really snuck your way into Beacon with no training?" He nodded. "Did you even have Aura?" Jaune had the self-respect to look away sheepishly. "Oh my god, you didn't have Arua? I thought you had some balls, but they must be brass. What is it like walking around with those things?"
"Xiao Long!" Exclaimed Weiss.
"What? I'm just saying we have our work cut out for us if he's that undertrained." Jaune deflated. "Which is why we should start training him now in one of the most important aspects of combat."
"Which is what Yang?" Her partner droned out. She raised one of the nearby pillows and threw it at Jaune. Which he promptly dodged with a yelp.
"Dodging!" And thus, every occupant picked up and pillow and started to hurl them at each other. Mostly at Jaune but still at each other. If anyone was asked what that noise was last night. Some would say a bunch of children was playing all across Beacon or an amazing party that wasn't known to the student body was being held. Laughter and joy was the only thing that could be heard for miles from the dorm room.
But there was a reason why no one ever held a secret party in Beacon. "Students," they all turned to see both Headmaster and Vice Headmistress at their door. "While I understand you all enjoy each other company. Do realize it's past curfew, and others are trying to sleep." They all looked between each and finally felt the effects of the day hit them full force.
"Sorry, Headmaster Ozpin, Vice Headmistress Glynda, we got too riled up, but we didn't break anything. I made sure of that," Jaune said.
To everyone's surprise, the room was actually still in one piece. While they had their impromptu pillow fight, Jaune took hits on one purpose all across the room to stop the damage.
"Huh, good job, VB," Yang praised.
"Heh, thanks. Now I'm going to get a quick shower if you don't mind." When Jaune disappeared into the shared bathroom and the shower head was heard. The Headmaster spoke to them all.
"I have one request to all of you," the students looked to the Headmaster with slight worry and curiosity, "Do your best to support him. You can't help those who don't want help, but Mister Arc obviously wanted help if he risked himself to come here. It was just very deep down." He then left with Glynda, with each student in equal shock.
"He knew, and so did Miss Goodwitch, and they still let him in," Ruby muttered.
"Huh, how about that," Nora said. Then they laughed and laughed. They laughed at the ridiculousness of the situation. They laughed about what they had gotten themselves into. They laughed at the idea of the Goodwitch herself letting Jaune in. They laughed at the notion that he could be kicked out like any other student by flunking. They laughed until their sides hurt, and they laughed until they passed out where they lay.
When Jaune walked back into his room, he looked around and sighed. He put a blanket on every person and retired for the night. Only one thought was flying through his head. How lucky can one boy be?
I've had this idea in my head for fuckin ever. Yes I took some stuff from the episode where Jaune comes clean, but I'm doing the same for my other fic. If it's not broke don't fix it. Now I've seen a lot of betray stuff and I was like. "I mean people would act that way but like I'm a little sure that the main cast and extended would help Jaune out if he stated his reason why he lied." Also, why is he always like a super badass or something that became strong overnight? Mo fo must have spent ten years in the hyperbolic time chamber from Dragon ball or something.
I get different strokes for different folks and not all of them are like that but still. It's like a couple of months and he becomes Deus Ex Machina. I might write on myself but right now I got a modern and a space one in mind. Maybe something else will see. Side note why is there no Sci-Fi Ruby fic that isn't finished. God that is so upsetting. Also, puns are fun and I don't know if I'll just leave this as is or not.
