Chapter 15 Undercover

Stephanie was still soundly asleep when Tank got the call from Bobby that he was anticipating. "Hey, Bobby, what is the result?"

"Stephanie is pregnant, Tank. I will be up to give her some maternity vitamins," Bobby happily announced. He was excited there would be a Rangeman baby.

"Bobby, Stephanie and I got married yesterday. I am the baby's father," Tank said over the phone when he saw his wife looking at him. She was happy Tank solved the mystery of who called. But she was nervous about the confirmed pregnancy news.

"Got it. You had mentioned that before. I will bring the pills to your apartment," Bobby said, then hung up.

Tank put his phone on the table and walked to Stephanie. He pulled her into his arms and held her tight. Before Tank could express his happiness about the baby news, someone knocked on the door. "Who is it?" Tank called out.

Stephanie giggled when she heard the reply, "Bobby." Tank reluctantly released Stephanie to answer the door. She followed him from the bedroom to sit on the couch.

Bobby gave Tank the maternity vitamins and said, "She takes once every day at night." Tank looked at the bottle, reading the ingredients. He was curious how maternity vitamins differed from the other ones for women.

"Thanks," Tank replied.

"No problem," Bobby said. Tank watched Bobby approach the door. Before opening it to exit, Bobby added, "Maternity vitamins contain Folic Acid, which is essential for fetal development."

Tank closed the door again and looked at Stephanie. Her giggles stopped as Tank held up the vitamins. In her eyes, the pregnancy became real once the vitamins got added to the mix. Tank went to her and pulled her into his arms.

"I am scared, Tank," Stephanie whispered.

"Yeah, so am I," he confessed, then he held her for a while. "Well, we have two things that we could do today. Number one is we could go back to bed and take the day off. Number two, we could get dressed and see what work is waiting for us to do."

"I like number one, Tank," she replied. She felt too emotionally drained to go to work.

"So do I." Tank picked her up and carried her back into the bedroom to try to go back to sleep.

A couple of hours later, Tank rolled over and saw Stephanie had gone. He heard someone moving around in the kitchen.

Tank put on his boxers and walked out to the kitchen to catch Stephanie trying to make eggs.

"Little one," he said, quietly approaching her.

"Damn, I can't even make eggs," Stephanie yelled.

"Here, let me help," Tank said. He went over to the frypan, cleaned it out, and went to the sink. Tank went to the fridge, took out the eggs, and started cooking some scrambled eggs. He put bread in the toaster. A few minutes later, Tank put the eggs on a couple of plates.

Stephanie took a bite of eggs. "Wow," she said, then consumed the eggs in a few minutes.

Tank had finished eating his breakfast when his phone rang. "What?" he answered. He listened to Vinnie explain his reason for the call.

"Vinnie called asking for the bond that Stephanie was after badly," Lester stated.

"All right, can you take care of it?" Tank asked.

"Well, there is a slight problem. Nobody can find her," Lester explained.

Tank looked at Stephanie as she washed the breakfast dishes. Stephanie nodded, letting Tank know it was okay to give away her skip. "What is the skip's name?" Tank asked.

"Tayna Rayes." Tank hung up before Lester could ask why Bobby visited his apartment carrying a bottle of pills.

"Little one, I need your file on Tayna Rayes," Tank said, wrapping his arms around his wife.

Stephanie squirmed out of his embrace to grab her bag. She selected the correct folder and gave Tank the file on Tayna Rayes.

"Okay, she could be Lula's sister," Tank said, shaking his head when he saw the resemblance to Lula.

Stephanie looked at the file picture, 250 lbs in a spandex shirt and short shirt with big knee-high boots.

"Now, that you mention it, Tank, I do see it. Can I go with the guys?" she asked. Stephanie knew Tank wouldn't want her in the field, but she wasn't showing and felt it was safe to assist from afar.

"Little one," Tank walked up to her and put his hand on her abdomen. "I know how much you love your job, and I am sorry about everything."

"I did not stop you. I enjoyed it as much as you did, Tank. I have no regrets, and I love you with all my heart," Stephanie told him as she moved closer to Tank. She wrapped her arms around his waist. He looked at her blue eyes and gave her a deep kiss.

"Are you kidding me?" Tank asked when someone knocked on the door. Stephanie giggled a little. Tank took the file and went to his apartment door.

'Here," he said, shoving the file at Lester before slamming the door in his face.

"Okay," Lester said, shaking his head. He got into the elevator and hit five for the command room.

"Really," Stephanie said as she approached her husband again. "Is there somewhere else we can go so we won't get constantly disturbed?"

"There is one more place. What do you say, Mrs. Sherman? Will you go with me?" Tank asked as he grabbed the keys.

"Let's go," Stephanie said, linking her arm through his.

They exited Tank's apartment and went to the fifth-floor control room. When they entered, Tank announced, "Listen up, everyone. I married Stephanie yesterday. We love each other, and we have started a family."

"Okay, everyone, I want you to know that Tank and I really love each other. Yeah, Ranger will be furious with Tank and me, but he has to realize that I am not his property. Now it's time for Tank to take me away from this place. Oh, one more thing, Tank and I will handle Ranger when and if we need to," Stephanie told the room before the elevator doors closed.

"Let's go, little one" Tank took her hand, and they walked out of Rangeman. He was proud of his wife for defending their relationship.

"Nice touch, little one."

"Hey, I hope I did not overstep."

"No, little one, not all. Come, let's go." Tank and Stephanie got in one of the Rangeman SUVs and drove away from Rangeman.
