The last of Berkviks healers was safe and ready to do what they needed to do. The medications, blankets for beds and candles were set up and ready to be used in the room on the east side of the island.

Leif, Olav and Frida were done here. They had made sure Barviks healers had come into land safe and now the trio was ready to go out and fight again.

"So I'll take the east entrance and you two the west?" Frida asked and gestured to the west entrance.

"A little surprise attack is always fun." Leif said and grinned.

Olav rolled his eyes at his brother before turning to his cousin. "Watch out for Grimmels three ships right at the entrance."

She laid a hand on his shoulder and gave him a small smile. "Don't worry, Olav. Signe will burn down those ships in seconds."

Signe rumbled in agreement.

"Come on brother," Leif said and threw an arm around his brother's shoulders. "Let's go out and fight."

Frida shook her head as she watched them go. Leif had somehow got an evil edge when he started fighting in this war. Something she or Olav knew she had in him. It was like seeing another person from him and even if Olav had enough with this new personality of his, it maybe was for the best that his inner warrior came out in the heat of battle.

"Come on." She said to Signe and jumped on his back and they flew out to the open air.

The three boats were in sight, but what got her interested was not that Grimmel was on one of the ships but that Ingrid was.

Frida knew well enough that that person, sitting on her knees a few meters from Grimmel, was her cousin. Frida couldn't get her head around why Ingrid was out here on one of Grimmels ships, with a nadder standing beside her and with Grimmel of all people. And why in Thor's name was she sitting- Ingrid fell to her side and Frida felt her heart speed up. She needed to get her off that ship!

"Come on!" she yelled out and Signe flew fast down and grabbed Ingrid's body and when they were a few meters in the sky, the ship Ingrid had just been on, exploded.

The heat from the explosion was felt on Frida's back so she leaned down towards Signe, who turned left, away from the fire but was welcomed by a thick air of smoke instead.

Frida coughed and tried to see where they were going by lifting her head slightly, but couldn't see anything but dark grey smoke. She coughed and laid her head back down to Signe.

Ingrid laid limbless in Signes grip and her shoulder bag fell down into the fire under them, causing more explosions and causing Signe to fly right into the snow.

Frida didn't know what was happening before cold snow hit her and luckily it was a cave right under the white blanket, but the landing was hard for the dragon and the human.

Frida flew off the dragon's back and hit the snow covered ground with a groan. The snow had softened her fall, but still felt pain in her chest.

Signe dropped Ingrid, who landed like a rag doll and he slided forward and hit the cave wall with his head first.

Frida groaned and slowly sat up, sunlight shining through the thin layer of snow that had fallen over the entrance when they came in, making it easy for them to see in the cave without the need of a fire.

"You okay, Signe?" She asked and gasped for air.

Signe rumbled softly and stood up. He wasn't injured and Frida didn't feel any injury on herself. Her breathing was harsh because of the sudden air of thick smoke and then being hit to the ground out of nowhere, but she felt fine.

Her eyes scanned the cave. It had well rounded walls so it looked like they were in a ball sliced in half. It was cold (so they needed a fire either way) and the floor was fully covered in snow. Frida's eyes stopped when she saw Ingrid laying face down in the snow almost three meters from her.

The air felt thick and hard to breathe again when she took in the scene before her. Ingrid is lying like a broken doll. Her arms were spreaded out and her feet were burnt from being under Signe and was an easy target for the fire underneath them. Her blonde hair was half burned and laid like a mess around her head and blood was coming out underneath her.

"No, no, no, no." Frida said and pulled herself up on her feet and ran towards Ingrid.

Frida turned Ingrid around and saw her face was covered in soot. An arrow that had been shot right in her heart had been broken and the shirt was soaked in blood.

"No, Ingrid." Frida whispered and tears came running down her cheeks. "Come on, Ingrid." She started hitting Ingrid's face. First lightly but when Ingrid didn't wake up, Frida hit her hard across the face. Even if her brain told her that Ingrid was dead and would never wake up, Frida's heart screamed at her to try and wake her up, but it was useless.

"Come on!" She yelled. Desperate to see Ingrid breathe. To live.

Frida took Ingrid's lifeless body in her arms and started rocking her. "Ingrid, wake up." She sobbed and felt her face become hot and wet, "Wake up. Please. You can't... you can't die. Not now."

Signe purred sadly and gently touched Ingrid's hand that hung limp out of Frida's hold. He felt the cold that came from Ingrid's body and decided to fire at the snow and melt it so the ground underneath it could become a little campfire and help Ingrid become warm again.

Frida jumped when she heard Signe fire suddenly, but when the snow melted and he had started a campfire, her lip started to quiver, but gave her dragon a little smile. "Thank you, but she's already-" her body started shaking and Signe rubbed his head against hers. Frida welcomed the affection Signe gave her and felt her body stop shaking a little.

Signe laid closely behind his rider. Frida thanked the gods that Signe was here with her and she hoped that would never change.

Ingrid's blood came running down her side, to Frida's hand that held her waist. Frida felt the wet fresh blood on her palm and fingers and her breath stuck in her throat, taking her back to the reality of what had happened to her cousin.

Frida sniffed and took a shaking breath. She laid her hand on Ingrid's cheek and turned her head towards her. Ingrid's eyes were closed, her mouth open because her face muscles were not in work anymore. She didn't look like she was asleep, because Frida had seen her asleep so many times in her life that this seemed wrong. The main reason was because she wasn't breathing. The little breathing sound she made and the way she looked peaceful when she was asleep was not there and it made Frida realize that she would never see her being awake.

Never would Fishlegs and Ruffnut see their baby girl alive again. Her brothers would never tease their little sister anymore and Frida could never tell her what Ingrid meant to her. That she was more like a little sister to Frida, than a cousin. Never would Berk see Ingrid and Stoick get married.

"I-I'll tell… everyone… about you being… dead and…." Frida sniffled, trying to get the right words out. "I don't know….how I'll tell them… Gods, what were you doing on that boat?" she mumbled and felt her voice crack.

She tried to take a deep breath but it came out raspy and the tears wouldn't stop coming, making them fall on Ingrid. Signe cooed softly behind her and Frida felt a little more calm. "Your parents and-and your brothers and Stoick and-and… Did you even think about Stoick when you went out there? Against… against Grimmel of all people? He will be... devastated."

Frida hugged Ingrid closer to her and leaned her head down towards Ingrid, making her face being covered in Fridas tears. "Why? Why?" she whispered.

They stayed there, in that small cave under the snow away from the battle that was in full swing outside. Frida knew that the news would be in the way for Ingrid's parents, brothers, betrothed and friends to continue this war.

They waited for the war to be over.
