The Okuda household is a one family unit living in one of Tokyo's pristine apartments. Everyday at five, Manami would get up from bed. She tidies the edges of her white sheets. She goes to the bathroom to brush her teeth and bathe. She wears her school uniform. Today it's a white short sleeve shirt and a grey waistcoat.

"Manami-chan. The food is ready", her mum said.

"Yes, mum. I'm coming", Manami said. She pulls the bands of her hair. Her braids are good.

In the dining table, three plates with different food assortments are placed. Her favourite among them; a grilled salmon. She scooped some rice from the rice cooker in her bowl.

She waited for her mum to pull her apron off. Her dad is already seated. He reads the newspaper. On the front page, a lady screamed as a swift yellow wind passed by. Manami twisted her fingers. She looks down and bites her tongue.

"Let's enjoy our food", her mum said. She sits beside her. Her hands clasped together. Her dad's hands clasped as well. Manami followed their example.

The meal was enjoyed in silence. Sometimes two or three slurps from having the miso soup but not four. Manami reached for her salmon. "Mum. Dad. I will do my best for the Finals", she said. The miso slurp stopped.

"Yes", her mum said.

"Finals are finals. Other than science, have you become interested in a hobby?" her dad said. "I've got that fishing magazine for our summer fishing trip this month".

"N-no, dad", Manami said. "I h-haven't".

He chuckled. He slides the magazine on the table. "Make sure to have it a good read. Fishes are such interesting creatures", her dad said. He stands up from his seat. "Dear. Manami-chan. I'm off to work". He folded his newspaper and walked with his suitcase to the doorway.

"Yes, dear. Have a good day", her mum said. At the same time, Manami said, "Yes, dad. H-have a good-"

Their apartment door shuts. "-day", Manami fidgets. Going fishing in the summer. She doesn't mind that but she couldn't say that she enjoys fishing.

"Manami-chan", her mum said. "I've prepared your bento next to the stove. You can take it with you after you clean the dishes". She pointed at the pink box.

"Y-yes, mum", Manami said.

Her mum walks to the doorway. She wore her black work heels. "Then I'm off". Her mum closes the door. Manami couldn't tell her to have a nice day.

She looked at her half eaten rice. Everyday has been like this. When the school sent the letter to her parents in her second trimester, they were speechless. At first, they tried to play it off. They know Manami is a good student so by mid-term, they would have a good opportunity to make her case to the school.

She puts her parents' plates in the sink. By mid-term her grades stayed relatively the same. Her parents become speechless once more. Her dad played it off as usual by getting her mind off school. Her mum gives up, she chooses to distance herself. Similarly, while warm, it's become apparent that the chuckles her dad gives isn't of happiness. It's fear.

The non air conditioned wooden campus makes it a very effective oven. It would be the perfect killing tool for the yellow octopus. The non-effective thing is that the octopus doesn't melt inside the classroom. His reaction is as ordinary as the students who complained about the heat in June. That's the main reason that her class came to study in the woods. Three of Koro-sensei's clones appeared.

"Okuda-san, you are very good at chemical equations. Let's try–"

"Okuda-san, let's try to read and interpret the meaning of Matsuo Basho's poem called In This World of Ours. The lines go–"

Koro-sensei picks up different books as he dodge the pink bullets. "Try it again, Karma-kun".

He nerufufu-ed and flips another page. "Okuda-san, the English and Japanese word for Helium, is the same. What three other scientific terms are similar?"

"Calcium, Nylon and Bunsen burner", Manami said.

"Very good", Koro-sensei said. "Class, you have the basics down from the first semester. You all have what it takes to conquer the final exam".

Terasaka flips his book. He scowls. "Terasaka-kun. Don't give up. You can also conquer the finals".

"Shut up, damn octopus", the boy swats the yellow octopus away.

"Koro-sensei. Are you trying to get us into the top 50 again?" Nagisa said.

"No. I have miscalculated in the midterms. Back then, I underestimated the power of your opponents", Koro-sensei said. "So now, I will give you a one time special offer". Koro-sensei holds two revision cards which form the word moonshot. His teeth formed the word lucky chance.

"As Shiro-san said, a decrease in my tentacles equal a decrease in speed", Koro-sensei said. He shot one tentacle. "And my clones become sloppy. Some of them have even mixed with the child clones".

A child Koro-sensei stretched out his hands. Manami shakes it. The child octopus laughs. He runs around in a circle with the other child Koro-sensei.

"Lose another one", he shoots his other tentacle. "And you have a family whose fretting on how to make ends meet".

"Dear", the mother Koro takes out a tattered P.E. uniform. "Little Koro is growing out of his uniform. What should we do?"

The father Koro leans his tentacle on the table. "I'm afraid you will have to sew this again, dear. My boss is refusing to pay me because he needs to repair the shop after a titan attack".

"Hey", Fuwa said. "Don't repair the shop. Just move to the next wall".

She exclaims while munching on some popcorn and wearing 3D glasses.

"Where do you get them from?" Nagisa shouted.

"Lose yet another one", Koro-sensei said. He shot a tentacle. "And the father is gone. The mother is left alone to raise the children".

"That's brutal", the class shouted.

His clones disappeared. "A decrease in my tentacles is a 10% decrease in my speed. Therefore, I am proposing a deal catered to each of your talents".

He puts a flag on his tentacle. "Whoever gets the top score in the overall ranking. And, or, whoever gets top scores in any of the five main subjects. Gets to destroy one of my tentacles".

The class gasped. "Pardon?"

"This is the Finals we're talking about. A test to show off your knowledge. Let's see how close you all are in obtaining that 10 billion bounty", Koro-sensei chuckled. He stands on a helicopter landing with a white flag waving on top of him.

Manami takes out her Science quiz sheet. A 100 is marked on top. A red flower drawn on the side. Her second blade is sure to hit the mark.

A year ago, the family lead a peaceful life between parents and child. When a letter of the child going to Class 3E known as the End Class arrived at their doorstep, the parents tried to ease the situation by convincing themselves that everything is alright, mainly the father. When the mid-term results came, all hopes of getting the daughter back up to a good class look pretty slim. The parents become unable to look at their daughter's face.
