Sarah stood at the edge of forever, watching the Goblin King as he offered her everything in exchange for one simple thing: Toby. Thinking of the child she had been forced to care for, her resolve hardened and, in that moment, Sarah decided to let Jareth win.

Sarah's room was smaller than she remembered it. She stood at the foot of her bed, looking down to her old dinosaur pillow. She was such a child when she was chosen, she thought. She grimaced at the thought of her old self; the person she was before power stepped into her life.

Sarah clenched her fist, the black leather of her gloves pulling as she thought. It had been ten years since she became the Goblin Queen; since the man who stole her younger brother became her slave. Immeasurable power now coursed through her veins. She was the ruler of Jareth's realm. He was there for her, to help her, on his knees.

She'd taken on the mantle of Queen with strength and resolve. While Jareth had spent most of his time as King creating little distractions for himself, Sarah was a true Queen. With a sweeping hand, she reformed the Goblin Realm, creating a world fit for her rising glory.

However, even with everything she'd accomplished, she still felt like she had unfinished business in her old home.

Sarah held a small doll in her left hand. The doll wore a white onesie, its blue eyes shining in the darkness of the room. Her cape drug across the floor behind her as she walked to the head of her bed and sat the doll in front of her dinosaur pillow.

"For you, Toby," Sarah said, her voice like silk. Her hair was cut short and slicked back, her clothes black leather. Her eyes were hard. She felt…sentimental. She didn't like it. She was here to say goodbye. A proper goodbye. She'd never be back. This life was in her past; this simple life where she obeyed someone other than herself.

Perusing the various knickknacks and books in her old room, Sarah smiled. "Through dangers untold…" she quoted, reaching down to the old book she used to read. The pages were worn, dogeared. "You have no power over me," she said.

It was true now, she thought. No one had power over her. Not even her past.

Her stepmother walked into the room. Stopping where she was, she held a hand to her mouth. "Sarah," she breathed. "I thought I heard something come from your old room," she said. "What's happened to you?"

Sarah smiled. "I've brought you a gift," the Queen explained, looking to the doll on the bed.

Sarah's stepmother walked to the bed, slowly, still in shock from seeing Sarah, grown, in her old room. The woman picked up the doll and looked it over. "Where is Toby?" she begged, dropping the doll on the bed.

"I'd be careful with that if I were you," said the Goblin Queen. She rested a hand on her hip, watching a worried look cross her stepmother's face. "You underestimate me," Sarah smiled. "I'm far more generous than you realize." Gesturing to the doll on the bed, the Queen said, "I thought a reunion was fitting."

"A reunion?" the woman said, looking down at the doll. "Sarah, you're scaring me."

"Toby was such a loud child," Sarah complained, letting her index fingers rub her temples, as though remembering something stressful. "He cried and cried for you."

Tears started to spring from the woman's eyes as she grabbed the doll and looked down into its eyes. "Toby?" she asked.

"He's quiet, now." Jessie let her hands drop to her sides. "I made sure of that."

Sarah looked to the doll in her stepmother's hands, then back into the woman's eyes, waiting for realization to dawn on her. The woman looked down to the doll and found herself collapsing on the bed. "Toby?" she moaned. "What have you done?" she said to the Queen.

"Goodbye," Sarah said, disappearing.

The woman fell to the ground, crying and calling out Toby's name, cradling the doll.
