Maya had let her attention go from Magnhild to Sun. As soon as the girl saw the light fury the next morning she stayed by its side. She had seen a light fury before, but having another dragon than Brie in her backyard was way too fun and interesting for Maya to sit inside to eat breakfast. So Vylma had the breakfast to be set up in the backyard together with the two dragons.
Sun had been unsure of what to do with the small human and Magnhild had helped the dragon to see that the girl didn't mean any harm. When Sun had sniffed and made sure Maya didn't post any threat, she tackled the girl down to the grass. Alvar was ready to help his girl away from the dragon, but Vylma laid a hand on her husband's arm and told him that their daughter was okay. And she was, Maya laughed under the kisses she was giving from Sun.
Alvar had a close eye on the duo the whole time. He knew dragons weren't harmful, of course dangerous dragons existed but not the dragons on Berk or Brie for that part. Alvar had only met Magnhild a few times and then she hadn't seen for eight years, but he knew she loved Vylma and would never put her niece in danger. So he trusted the dragon to play with his little girl, even if he felt protective over Maya and didn't want her to play with a fire breathing dragon. He knew what he married; queen Vylma Hadderson who comes from a peace living island with humans and dragons. He knew dragons would be a part of his life as soon he said yes to marry her. Alvar wasn't afraid of dragons. He didn't like to ride one, being on top of a dragon with meters from land under him was not his thing, but seeing his daughter playing with a dragon always put him on edge.
Vylma laughed with her daughter while Sun chased after her, holding her son in her lap who ate his porridge. "She's going to become crazy when she gets her own dragon."
"Flying off whenever she wants and getting into trouble." Magnhild chuckled.
Vylmas smiled and faded into a scowl. "Let's hope it won't be the trouble we or our parents brought."
Magnhild stared at her sister for a while before slowly turning away with the thoughts of the trouble they brought.
When dinner was eaten and the Hadderson family had packed their bags, they waved goodbye to Barvik from the boat that set sail to Berk.
The boat was so big, Sun laid sunbathing on the deck at the bow of the boat and Maya sat a few meters away with paper and a coal pen in her hands drawing the resting dragon.
"I see she likes to draw."
Vylma snorted. "She saw her grandpa draw once and she quickly took after him. She reminds me of Ingrid sometimes."
Magnhild watched Maya look up and then down before continuing her drawing and Magnhild could see it. Maya held the curiosity, kindness and fondness of things as Ingrid had held. But Maya also held a more outgoing and bubbly nature than Magnhild remembered Ingrid ever held.
Magnhild smiled sadly at the memories of Ingrid Ingerman before pushing them away and followed her sister into the cabin.
"Here's another thing I've been wondering about." Vylma began. "Where's your kransen? Well I think I can figure it out. I'm pretty sure you're not married, so who was it?"
"Oh, just a guy I met four years ago and fell in love with and shared a few nights with until he confessed to me that he was betrothed to a girl who carried his child so he got home with a bloody nose and a black eye because of me. But that's not the story of how I lost my kransen. I was really drunk one night and some friends thought it would be funny if I used my headband as a slingshot to shoot down some bottles. It broke in the end and I threw it in the sea."
Vylma raised her eyebrows and just stared at her. "Wow. That was... wild from start to end."
Magnhild laughed and sat down on a wooden bench. "You know I kind of forgot about that and now when I think about it; I miss them. Not that cheating guy but all the friends I made when traveling and the horrible feeling I had when I left because I needed to continue my travels but also for Temple because he got restless of hiding for too long." She sighed and placed her hands on her knees. "I've seen so many horrible things over the years but even more beautiful things and a part of me wants to go back to the beautiful but I know I could find the horrors as well."
"It doesn't matter where you are," Vylma began and took a step forward. "Horrors will come as much as beauty. It's how we handle them that makes a difference in our life's and we don't know the outcome until we make our choices."
"Or after our choices are done." Magnhild muttered. "I guess all we can do is make choices and hope for the best until we die."
Berk had barely changed over the eight years. A few new houses and the forest was smaller. Magnhild couldn't help but smile at the sight. Vylma stood beside her with Viljar on her hip and watched amused between her sister and Berk.
The harbor came closer and fishermen and harbour workers stopped in their tracks when they saw the boat coming in port.
Alvar threw the rope to a bulky, tall man who fasted the rope to the bridge so it wouldn't drift away.
The plank was out and Maya was quick to run away from the boat and had her father calling after her to not run on the bridge. The girl slowed down with a pout and continued walking towards the village.
"Some day she'll run off the edge again." Alvar muttered.
"And you'll be ready to save her, again." Vylma said and walked off the boat.
"Always." Alvar said and walked after his wife and went after his daughter.
"Leif, it is good to see you again." Vylma said to the bulky talk man on the pier.
"You too Vylma and Viljar" Viljar looked between the blonde man and his mother before laying his head on her shoulder.
"It's good to see you too, Leif." Magnhild said and stood beside her sister.
Leif's eyes widened in shock at the sight of the blonde haired Haddock.
"Magnhild?" He gasped.
"The one and only." She said and did a little bow.
"How... when?"
"Yesterday and..." she looked up where the village lay on the cliffs. She then looked down at the harbour and saw people either watching her or Maya and Alvar walking past them. "I think I'll make a better entrance than this."
"What?" All Vylma could do the day before Magnhild ran back to the ship and jumped on Sun before they flew up to the village, more specific; the Haddock house.
"Was that really Magnhild? Flying on a light fury?" Leif asked, pointing with his thumb towards the boat Magnhild and Sun just flew off of.
"That would be my sister and our friend. And yes, it's a light fury."
The Haddock house still looked the same as it did eight years ago. Magnhild didn't know if it was a good or bad sign, but was happy with the feeling of nostalgia that hit her. Her eyes coughed the window to her and her sister's room and she smiled at the memories of Vylma sneaking out in the night while Magnhild held her tongue when their parents asked where she was the next morning.
A Laughter was heard and then a door opened. Green eyes met blue and the sound of a laundry basket falling to the ground before feet was running through the grass and Magnhild was ready for the hug to come from her mother.
"You're home," Astrid whispered with tears running down her face, "You're finally home."
Magnhild could only nod while her own tears stained her mother's blue shirt.
Astrid was the first to let go and laid a hand on Manhild's cheek and wiped her daughter's tears away with her thumb. "You're alive."
"Yes, I am and I'm home." she sniffled. "I missed you."
"I missed you too. Everyday."
Sun rumbled softly behind Magnhild and tilted her head when she and Astrid laid eyes on another.
"And this is?" Astrid asked with narrowed eyes. "And where is Temple?"
"This is Sun and," Magnhild sighed. "It's a long story."
"Astrid?" Magnhild's eyes turned to the sound of her father's voice.
Hiccup came walking around the corner of the house with Toothless behind him. When Hiccup's eyes locked on Magnhild he stood still for a few seconds before a big smile was shown on his beard face and Magnhild's legs moved forward into her father's arms.
Hiccup laughed and planted a kiss on his daughter's head and Magnhild couldn't help but laugh with him. "You're home! And alive!" Hiccup cheered.
Astrid smiled at the sight before her and wiped her tears away with her hands.
Toothless smiled at Hiccup and Magnhild, feeling happiness that his best friend finally had his daughter home. Two baby night fury's and a light fury baby with green eyes came flying past him and sat down before him which caught Magnhild's attention.
"So this is your kids, Toothless?" she asked the night fury who nodded his head. "They're adorable." she said and crunched down to get a better look at them.
The baby light fury jumped in her lap and looked at her with curiosity. The other two sniffed her legs before jumping on her back.
"They like you." Hiccup told her and looked at Sun standing confused at the sight before her. "And I guess it's because you smell like a light fury."
Magnhild took the light fury in her arms and the night fury stood on her shoulders when she stood up. "I guess."
A light fury came flying down from the sky, landing beside Toothless and narrowed her eyes on Magnhild who held all her three babies. Toothless shook his head at her and the light fury flew to their mother's back.
"Well isn't it my sister?" Finn's voice came behind her and almost had to take a double take at the red beard and the long braid that reached his waist. Thors stood smiling by his side.
"Magnhild!" Frida cheered when Magnhild turned around. Frida's blonde hair was clean shaved on one half of the head that had rune tattoos going down her head to her neck. The other side of her head was braided in different braids and hung down to her thighs.
"Good to finally see you after my and your brother's wedding." Thora said with a smile and held a hand on her growing belly.
"Told you she was home." Leif said to his brother Olav who hit his brother's shoulder in response.
"Seriously?" Vylma rolled her eyes and lifted her son higher on her hip. "She knew about my wedding and didn't stay a few extra months to attend it."
Magnhild giggled at the sight before her; her siblings and friends being alive and well, some with or soon with their kids of their own. With their own future's at their reach. Hopefully a wonderful and an amazing future with a lot of laughter and happiness, but she knew tears of sadness and hateful days would come, because that's life and life wasn't controllable. You are giving what you are giving and what you decide what to do with it is the path to sadness or happiness. Manghild just wished Stoick, Ingrid and Brant here with them going through everything that was thrown at them so they could all go through it together, but she knew they were in a better place and that was what they had been giving. Now the living needed to live a life so the dead could rest easily.
