Chapter 2
Dear Diary, I decided to write to you while I'm now flying over Japan in route to my new home in Hokkaido. I have a small apartment waiting for me when I get there and my new job with the building contractor doesn't start for three days. This will at least give me time to fix up the place a little. Sigh! I won't lie, I'm scared that I won't be good enough or that I won't be able to sleep even once I'm there. I don't want to see a doctor about this because I feel it's something I need to stop thinking about. It's been twenty two years now, surely I'm just thinking about my dad that's all. Still I hear those words from that man, the way he said them in a growling voice makes me wonder just who he was. I do want to at least thank him for saving my life. Still those glowing red eyes, was it all real or did I just imagine it all?
After writing in her diary, Kagome took a small nap. The pressures of thinking of a new place and a new work area had her exhausted along with almost no sleep for almost a month. She probably would've slept longer, but the seatbelt light came on and the pilot had announced they would be landing soon. Kagome took a deep breath, she was relieved to have had some sleep. She didn't dream at all in fact, so for once she felt positive that all of this was for the best.
Things went smoothly once the plane landed, Kagome got her luggage and found a taxi rather quickly. She was amazed at how beautiful it was this far north. And her apartment complex was even more beautiful than she imagined. She paid the cab driver and made her way inside. The place was even more spectacular inside. Kagome couldn't believe she was able to afford a place this amazing.
"You must be Kagome Higurashi, welcome to the apartment complex." Kagome turned around and noticed it was the owner of the building. Kagome bowed and nodded "yes". Before the owner introduced herself, she handed Kagome a piece of paper. "My name is Rin, and it's so nice to meet you. This is a map that will help you find your way around the building, there is a special key card as well. And please don't be afraid to call me if you need help, my number is on the paper I just gave you."
"Thank you Rin, I'm honored to be here. This is such a lovely place, I've never seen an apartment complex look like this. I feel like I'm in a luxury hotel." Rin chuckled at Kagome's kind words. It was then Kagome remembered she owed Rin the rest of her rent money. "I have the rest of my rent for you as well." She said, as she handed Rin the envelope. Rin thanked her and told her to make herself at home before leaving. Looking down at the map that Rin gave her,
Kagome quickly found her room and moved the few things she had into her new place. It was a cute little apartment, the kitchen was just big enough for one person. The main room was cozy enough for a few guests and her bedroom was perfect and roomy. Kagome only saw pictures that Rin had sent her through emails, but seeing the place in person was even more spectacular. She would buy some furniture tomorrow when she visited town. For now a few blankets on the floor would work. She had a few nice dresses and some everyday clothes to wear, but she would shop for more another day. "I guess I'll make a list of things I'll need most first and order takeout for tonight's meal, but first…"
It was Sota who answered the phone first. Kagome had a feeling he would beat mom answering the phone when she called. "Thank kami you're okay…" Kagome slightly chuckled at her brother's words. He was very protective of his big sister. Kagome even bet if her brother wasn't still in college, he would've come here and stayed with her. "You always have to laugh at me when I worry about you, don't you sis?"
"Oh Sota, I'm laughing because it's so cute when you get like this. I'll admit it just proves you love me, even though you love to fight with me at times." Sota gave her an eye roll and a ha ha ha, you're funny laugh at her words. Which made Kagome laugh harder. "Anyway I'm here safe and sound and the place is amazingly beautiful. It's even better looking in person."
Her words caused Sota to make a joke. "So that means you won't be home for dinner tonight?" They both were silent for a moment. Kagome knew it was a lame joke, but she decided to give it a chuckle after a while.
"You know I'd love to be home eating with you and mom, but this is my home now. And I was actually able to sleep on the flight for a while. No dreams, isn't that great!"
Sota was happy to hear his sister was able to rest for once, but he worried about other things that could happen with her so far away from home. "I know sis, but please be safe. It's so far from home and you don't know anyone in the area yet." Sota clenched his fist that was holding the phone. It gave a slight crack before he stopped.
"I'll be fine Sota." Kagome reassured him. "And my landlady is very nice. She gave me her number and told me to call if I need anything. I'm sure I'll be fine here, it's so peaceful."
Sota tried to be positive. "Well okay then, still be safe. I'll let you talk to mom now, love you sis." Kagome could tell Sota was very upset and returned his words of love before talking to her mother. The conversation with her mom was short and sweet. Both ended up in tears till the end, but Kagome's mom knew her daughter was strong and could manage on her own in the new city. And plus her mom liked knowing Kagome's place made her daughter so happy. Every mother hates to let their child go, but they also know they have to let their children fly on their own at some point in life.
