Chapter 6

The wolf paced inside his small home just a few blocks away from where he saw her. He sensed the jewel and even felt it's power. And the woman was beautiful too. "She's strong and brave, I like that in a woman." He licked his lips thinking about having the jewels power and a sexy mate at the same time. "She's a human and probably won't be able to satisfy my sexual needs. Still I like her spunk and her smell. She's untouched and pure, I like that in a mate." Still there was a big problem. "I wasn't expecting the dog to be here. Damn mutt, first Naraku and now him."

Flashback

Koga had sensed something different in the air that night. It was the scent of pure evil and a demon like no other. He often sat on the roof to gaze out over the city. He liked the feeling of the open night sky above him. He was a wolf youkai after all, a wild beast in his own way. 'What is this scent?' He thought, just before a dark figure appeared behind him.

"Hello Koga of the northern wolf tribe, I've heard much about you." Koga growled at the stranger, he was ready to attack if he needed to. "Please dear boy, I do not wish to fight. My name is Naraku, and I have come to tell you of a great and wonderful power and beastly a monster that wants to grow in power by using a powerful jewel."

Koga listened to the strange man who smelled of more than one youkai. He didn't trust him, still if he could acquire a jewel with that much power. "So why tell me about this jewel? It sounds like you're strong enough. And who says I want the jewel?"

Naraku laughed. "I have no doubt in my mind that you don't want power. You're a business youkai you thrive on money, power and sex do you not. And if you do challenge me for the jewel, I can easily defeat you. However there is another who what's the jewel. An Inu youkai named InuYasha. He is the one you need to be aware of. He is cursed to the jewel and very strong even for a hanyou. Beware of him and me Koga of the northern lands."

End flashback

Koga needed to think about how to get the woman while the dog wasn't around. And make sure Naraku wasn't around too. The girl was definitely new to the town and surely had a job somewhere. "I'll have to keep my eyes open and find out just where she goes. Heh, she says about a boyfriend, but there's no scent of a man on her. That dog was just there at the wrong time today. There's no way she knows him."

A furious InuYasha stormed into his apartment, only to be shushed by Miroku. "What the actual hell Miroku? First you brought her here and now I find out she's asleep in my fucking bed? Are you serious?" The monk just shrugged his shoulders. "Damn these human women are so fragile I swear. One little struggle and they need to sleep." After not finding the monk or Kagome at her place, InuYasha headed to his and Miroku's place. When he walked in Miroku told him to be quiet that the girl was sleeping. Of course telling InuYasha to be quiet was useless.

"Well it is safer here after all, besides she's harmless. And you have to tell her about the jewel anyway. So you might as well do it here." InuYasha signed, he hated this talk. True it has been 50 years since the last time, still he hated it more every time. "Just give her a few minutes to rest. Something tells me it's not the struggle that has her so tired."

"He's right." Both men looked towards the doorway to see a still very sleepy Kagome, rubbing her eyes. She walked into the room with her head down and set on the sofa. "I haven't been able to sleep lately. I keep having nightmares, but I don't know why I'm telling either of you this." InuYasha looked at Miroku, not sure how to start. But it seemed the woman already started.

InuYasha took a seat on the chair beside the sofa, sitting with his elbows on his knees. He hated this talk, InuYasha actually wished he was telling his son or daughter about sex instead of this talk. "What are your nightmares about?" He asked, as he folded his hands. She looked away and began to tell him about her dreams, even about the demon while she was at the beach. Miroku watched InuYasha's every move as Kagome told them about her nightmares. He could tell InuYasha was getting more and more uncomfortable as she talked. It was when Kagome finished talking that InuYasha stood and started to pace.

How would he tell her it was him, he was the monster in her dreams. "Kagome, I know this will be hard to believe, but 500 years ago a youkai fell in love with a priestess. She was in charge of guarding a powerful jewel. Youkai of all kinds wanted it's power, even humans wished to possess this jewel."

When InuYasha walked past her she grabbed his arm. "So you're telling me when that man said about a jewel?" He gave her a look that left her sick to her stomach. "Oh god no!" She was terrified now and InuYasha hadn't even told her the worst part of all this. Miroku moved to sit beside her, he felt she needed a little comforting. "Why, why am I the one?"

InuYasha sighed. "I don't know why, but I know you have the jewel. Miroku is a holy monk who has lived for 500 years, he's cursed to live until the jewel is destroyed. And as for me well let's just say I'm cursed as well." It was all he said before leaving the apartment. He needed to get away from her and the memories she just told.

Kagome felt a deep sadness as she watched InuYasha leave. "Miroku, is what he said true?" Miroku only nodded "yes" and pulled a scroll from the drawer beside him. Kagome took the scroll a bit puzzled.

"I figured maybe you might like to read this." Kagome took the scroll and began to glance over it, there was so much that she feared now. And was starting to understand why her dreams were only nightmares. The scroll was dated back 500 years and every 50 years it was updated. All the names of women and how they died and the date, some only had the date they died. Kagome felt sick to her stomach. Surely her name would be on this scroll next. With tears in her eyes she looked at Miroku. "S-So you're telling me that what this scroll says is true?" Miroku closed his eyes and nodded "yes". At that very moment, Kagome felt like she had been thrown into a brick wall. (No woman has ever lived once the jewel was discovered by InuYasha or I.) Kagome didn't know what to think or do, in just one sentence her life had ended.

As he sat on the roof high on top of the apartment complex. InuYasha felt his youkai growing restless. He didn't understand why his youkai hadn't surfaced while Kagome was there in the room. He did think maybe it was because Miroku was so close. "What do you want?" InuYasha asked his youkai side. However his youkai didn't answer. "The day the woman bumped into us you wanted the jewel. Now she was right next to you and you did nothing?"

His youkai growled. "The woman may have the jewel, but it's not time yet. When the crimson moon is full next I will strike, only when the moon is a crimson red that is when I'm strongest. And you will not stop me this time!"

InuYasha knew on full moon nights his youkai side was strongest. And on a crimson moon night it would be hard to stop his youkai side. "You know I'll fight you, I promised to protect her from you and anyone else who tries to hurt her."

The youkai side laughed. "This woman is a descendant of the woman who cursed us. I want her blood on my hands as I rip the jewel from her insides. I want her to suffer the pain I did. Tell me human, you do not want revenge for being pinned to a tree and cursed to a jewel? Revenge for being hated for what you are? That priestess never loved you, she only wanted your protection from the monsters that wanted the jewel. You loved her and so she made you her protector. Is that not why you always say you'll protect these women? You pity them just as you pitied her."

"ENOUGH!" InuYasha yelled. His youkai was only trying to manipulate him, make him believe the lies he was telling. "You just shut up about everything, you know nothing." InuYasha's claws were digging into the palms of his hands, blood soon dripped from where they had pierced his flesh. He needed to run to get away from the area for a few hours.
