Miroku had been waiting for hours for InuYasha to return to their place. The jewel was still wrapped in the golden sutra and was now placed in a sealed box. Miroku stayed on guard and a barrier was around him and the box. It was unclear just who would try to get the powerful jewel. 'I hope Kagome lives, she is so beautiful and deserves to be happy and live a full life span.' His thoughts came to a sudden halt, when the apartment door was almost blown off its hinges. He grabbed his ancient staff and readied himself to fight, but who he saw made him swallow hard. "In-InuYasha?"
InuYasha tried his best to fight Naraku with the Tessiaga, but with Kagome still in the horrible youkai's grasp. He was unable to. Naraku would use Kagome as a shield everytime InuYasha would try to attack. He was growing more worried that Kagome would die soon, and so he had no other choice.
"Hand over the jewel monk I need it." Of course Miroku knew this was not going to end well. He moved his staff in front of him, ready to take down his old friend. "Feh, you dare challenge me monk? You know damn well I'm stronger than you." InuYasha said, as he cracked his knuckles and readied himself.
"I'm sorry InuYasha, but if you make another move towards me. I'll destroy the jewel along with your life." InuYasha chuckled at Miroku and continued to move forward. Miroku raised his staff higher, ready to take action, but InuYasha was like lightning. And in a flash Miroku found himself thrown from his spot. Miroku watched in horror as InuYasha sliced through the barrier around the box that held the jewel. He cursed his decision for not taking action sooner and destroying the jewel.
Miroku watched in horror as InuYasha did the one thing he never dreamed he'd do. He placed the jewel in his mouth and swallowed it whole. "NOOOO!" Miroku cried out, but it was too late. 'Never once did InuYasha want the jewel in this way so why now?' This was what Miroku kept thinking over and over again in his head. He didn't know if he would be able to stop InuYasha now, plus what would happen now that InuYasha had swallowed the jewel. It wasn't long till he found out.
A red light filled the room and the monk was thrown against the wall from the intense power. With his staff in hand he placed a barrier around himself. The clothes on InuYasha's body were ripped to pieces from the transformation that was happening. His youkai was stronger now as the jewel fueled his body with demonic strength that had been born inside the jewel from its birth. InuYasha was now nothing more than a murderous youkai. Only a small part of his pants remained once his transformation was complete.
Red glowing eyes, long deadly claws and fangs. And the way his silver hair was blowing around his face made him look even more monstrous. His muscular features were that of a champion weightlifter. And his growls could make any man or beasts hairs on the back of their neck stand on end. Once he remembered just why he did what he did, InuYasha was gone. Miroku quickly stood and followed his friend and soon understood why InuYasha took the jewel. "Naraku!"
However, seeing that InuYasha now held great power made Naraku extremely angry. "You damned fool, how dare you use what is mine." InuYasha grinned and, like lightning, made his move on Naraku. "Just for this I will make sure the woman dies." Naraku threatened, as purplish smoke started to surround him.
"Feh, you think your miasma can hurt me? What a fool you are, Naraku." InuYasha wasted little time breaking through the purple poison and easily grabbed Naraku by his throat. "After years of hell I finally have you. Now it's your turn to die, just like all those women you killed just for some jewel."
InuYasha could feel Naraku's neck bone breaking as he squeezed his neck tighter. The feeling of Naraku's neck popping in his grasp was so satisfying to his youkai side. Before Miroku had arrived, only ashes remained from Naraku's body. InuYasha stood over the smoking mess, grinning at what he had finally done. "At last that horrible bastard is dead."
This time there was no mistake, Naraku was dead. Miroku however had another problem. "Now what do I do with him? Surely the jewel will take over and totally corrupt InuYasha's soul." Miroku swallowed hard, he needed to be ready to take on the fight of his life. And it wasn't the physical fight, it was the emotional fight. InuYasha and Miroku had lived for 500 years together and they had become good friends.
As if things weren't hard enough, now here he was faced with doing the one thing he didn't want to do. He swallowed hard and watched as InuYasha turned towards him. He would have to kill him now, oh how he hated this day.
However InuYasha only took two steps towards Miroku and suddenly his eyes closed and his body fell to the floor. Miroku wasn't sure what was happening and felt it would be best to take action while he had the time. He pulled a sutra from his pocket and began the chant. The sutra would turn InuYasha's body to dust once it was placed on his body.
As Miroku started the chant, InuYasha was fighting inside the jewel his soul was now trapped inside. The darkness around him was endless and soon demons of all kinds surrounded him. He growled and sliced through them one by one with his sharp claws. Still their bodies regenerated and surrounded him once more. His mind was that of a beast set on killing, but there was a part of him that wanted to see her. To hold her close and feel her warm body against his. To taste her kisses once more and know she was indeed alive and by his side. Those thoughts allowed something to happen and soon a woman appeared floating down from the darkness.
As he watched her decent, his eyes slowly faded back to their honey golden color. The purple jagged lines on his cheeks were now fading as well. When the woman was just above him she smiled down at him. "Hello InuYasha, I am Midoriko. I see you are strong willed and managed to overcome your youkai as well as these youkai that reside inside the jewel." InuYasha wasn't sure who this woman was, but he did find it weird that he was able to keep his mind through all this.
"Midoriko, why am I here? Is this death or am I inside the jewel?" She nodded "yes" and his heart sank. He never got to see her or tell her goodbye. It all happened so fast and now he would never get to hold her again. His head lowered and soon a tear came to his eye. Midoriko saw this and smiled, just before InuYasha fell to his knees in pain.
"There isn't much time." Midoriko told him. "The monk is almost finished with the chant to rid the world of the jewel and you as well. "I know of the curse placed upon you and wish to allow you to live on. This jewel was created by me as I fought a powerful youkai. Our souls are trapped in an endless battle inside this jewel. However you are the first youkai to enter this place that wishes to love and care for another. Even as a pure youkai you overcame this evil inside the jewel because you love someone. This love and your strong will to see her again has also affected the youkai that live inside the jewel. You have freed me and so I will allow you to live on. But tell me this InuYasha, why do you love this woman?"
He tried to tell her, but Miroku had only a few more words to say before the sutra would activate. There was a bright flash that caused Miroku to pause. It only lasted a second and once he regained his thoughts, Miroku continued to recite the last words.
Midoriko knew InuYasha's fate would soon be sealed and there would be no return. Her voice was more strict this time. "InuYasha, now tell me. Why do you love this woman?! ANSWER ME NOW!"
With his last breath and at the same time Miroku said the last word InuYasha called out. "For who she is. And because I want her to be happy, with or without me. She is my true love." Midoriko smiled and in that moment a bright light flashed.
