Clear Blue Sky Ch. 7
Rocker woke up at his normal 5 am, as he stretched his body, he felt someone warm next to him, rolling to his side, he couldn't help but smile at a curled-up Evelyn. Gently moving the hairs that were covering her face he couldn't resist the urge to pull her to him. Carefully he moved his arms underneath her body and pulled her body on top of his. As she settled on his, he threw his arm over her and closed his eyes.
Rubbing her eyes, Evie felt a body underneath hers, opening her eyes, she found herself on top of Rocker. She couldn't remember climbing on him during the night, feeling a little embarrassed that she became a human blanket, Evie made the attempt to move off him without waking him. But as she got one leg off him, she could feel him gripping her tighter.
He could feel her moving, not wanting to get up just yet, he held her tighter, he grumbled, "No, stay." Moving both arms he had her wrapped back in his arms.
Putting her head on his chest, "K." Listening to this heartbeat, it was strong and steady. It was enough to lull her back to sleep, but per usual, the sound of her phone going off ruined the moment. Groaning at the sound, she barely moved off his chest. Grumbling into the phone, "Hello?"
"Sorry to call you so early Evie, but I need you."
"What's going on Jess?"
"The badge vs badge, I booked someone to perform a song for the LAPD win later tonight, and they just called me to cancel. I need your help!"
Groaning out, "What exactly are you expecting me to do about it?"
"Mumford may have slipped that you can sing, please, I don't care if you sing, We Are the Champions by Queen. Just help me, I really wanted to one up the LAFD."
She felt Rocker rub her back, turning slightly so that he could get her shoulder, "Let me see what I can do, no promises Jess."
"I love you, Evie! I owe you."
Snorting into the phone, "I take payments in steak, preferable from Taylor's."
Jessica couldn't help but laugh, "Deal. You pull this off, it's a date!"
"Best date ever. Alright, let me see what I can do, love you, Jess."
Hanging up her phone, she tossed it to her side of the bed and laid her head back down on his chest. She new she needed to reach out to Travis see if he was busy for tonight, but this right now was perfection.
Moving her hair off her face, "So, what did the captain want so early?" his voice still groggy from sleep.
Nuzzling into his chest, "To make a miracle happen, but so comfy." Lifting her arms, she wrapped them around his shoulder. "Feels good."
Chuckling at her, "Do I have to worry about you and the captain? I mean Taylor's is a really nice restaurant." Realizing he didn't know if she was bi-sexual, not that it would matter, but he didn't want to be blind sided down the road.
Her eyes popped open, slowly sitting up, she ended up straddling his stomach. Tilting her head, "Are you jealous?" she teased.
Folding his arms behind his head, he looked up at her, even first thing in the morning, she was beautiful. "Maybe, you told her you love her, she's taking you to Taylors. Just need to know my competition for your heart." As he said that, he realized that he wasn't kidding, he would fight for her if that's what it took.
Laughing and shaking her head, raising her arms above her head stretching out her back, "No. Jess is my best friend, outside of work, at work she's, my Captain. But when she needs me to do things a little outside my job description, I make her by me a drink or food." Tilting her head back and forth to crack her neck, it hit her, he was skirting around asking if she was bi. Looking down at him, seeing his handsome face, she leaned down and kissed him lightly, "I'm straight, if you were trying to ask without asking."
He couldn't help the smile that was plastered on his face. Internally he was happy, he didn't have to worry about two genders vying for her, at least he could punch a man in the face. Using his hand, he pulled her down to his lips, kissing her, taking the other arm to hold her hip. He could feel his body starting to respond to kissing her, not that he had anything to be ashamed of, but he didn't want to poke her with his cock so early, especially since he needed to take her on a real date first. Pulling back, he tucked her hair behind her ear, "Are you going to tell me what you're planning to do for the captain?" he asked her.
Letting her mind slowdown from his kiss. Evie slowly opened her eyes and looked at him, she could see that he was pleased with himself. Taking a slow breath, she sat up and got off him, heading towards the bathroom she threw a look over her shoulder, "No. I will not Sgt." With that she shut the door and started her morning routine. As she washed her hands after using the toilet, she brushed her teeth, running a brush through her hair; Evie looked at herself in the mirror, and made a mental note to take a long shower before she really started her day.
Stepping out of the bathroom she caught him pulling on his jeans. Evie had to take a second look at his body, she knew that he was in ridiculous shape but seeing it up close had her mouth run dry. Without even flexing the man had a 6 pack, she watched as his back muscles flexed as he put a shirt over his head. Normally she was a very intellectual woman, but right now her brain was melted.
Blinking rapidly, she cleared her throat, "You hungry? I was going to make an egg sandwich." Keeping her eyes looking at his eyes.
Pulling his shirt over his head, he turned towards the sound of her voice, smiling seeing her lean against the door frame. She was just wearing basketball shorts and a tank top, but she looked gorgeous. "Yea. I'd love that. Thank you."
He watched her give him a small smile and nod, his eyes following her as she left the room. Letting out a deep breath, he made his way into the bathroom and quickly did what he needed to. Drying his hands off, he opened the door, and began checking around to make sure that he had everything he needed, as he cleared the floor, he could hear her phone chime. Grabbing it with the intention of giving it her, he unintentionally saw a text from Luca.
TEXT:
Love of my life, please tell me you're coming to the battle of the badges!
The rage hit him quickly, he knew for a fact that Evelyn never went on a date or anything with him, because Luca wouldn't have been able to keep that to himself, but it didn't make him thrilled that another SWAT brother wanted her so badly. Feeling bad for invading her privacy, he blacked out the screen and headed towards the kitchen.
Finding her finishing up the food, "Your phone went off with a text." Putting down on the island.
Her back was too him, "Can you read it for me?" she asked. She was concentrating on the eggs, not wanting them to burn.
Surprised that she would trust him, he didn't even have to touch it, "Luca said, love of my life, please tell me you're coming to the battle of the badges." His voice was dull. He really was trying to keep from finding him and beating him senseless.
Biting her lip as she transferred the eggs to the bread, she carefully made the sandwich, as she turned around to hand it to him, letting out a long sigh, "I know he means well, but I don't know what I can say to him to back off." Coming around to sit next to Rocker at the island. She knew there was nothing she could do about it now; she took a bite of her food.
His eyes never leaving her, "What exactly happened with him," holding his breath, "if you don't mind me asking."
Shrugging, "When I started last year, he was always bugging me to go out with him, at the time, I really wasn't looking for that, so I politely declined, and by the time that I was ready to start trying to date, he became a friend, and honestly as much as I adore him, he keeps moving in with chicks then when it gets too serious he ends up sleeping on a couch. It's weird." She wasn't judging him, but she had her own weird relationship stuff to deal with, she didn't need that kind of baggage. Taking another bite, she could see that he was absorbing the information, "So, a few months ago he asked me out again, still said no, he made the joke that he'd wear me down eventually. I told him not a chance. Now I just think it's a challenge."
Taking a bite of his food, he closed his eyes, "This is good. Thanks for cooking." Wiping his mouth, "Do you want to date him?" he asked. Figured he'd ask now before he fell any harder for her.
Her eyes darted up, "No. I adore Luca, but the thought of dating him really doesn't do much for me." Which was true, personally the thought of dating and eventually sleeping with a guy, none of her fantasies ever included Luca. "Is this a problem for you? I mean he is your SWAT brother; I don't want to cause any issues there." She really meant that, if it would be a problem she'd go back to friend in a heartbeat.
Rocker recognized that she was willing to end their relationship before it really started to protect the SWAT part of his life. He always knew that she was selfless, but damn. Turning his body towards her, put his hand behind her neck, "There is nothing on this planet that will keep me from you Evie. You're worth everything."
Leaning down he kissed her, she always tasted sweet, her lips were soft, and she had a velvet tongue. It was enough to make him toss her over his shoulder and go cave man. But his respect for her stopped him, he wanted to show her that while he was attracted to her, she was worth getting to know before he made her scream his name.
Tilting her head to get better access to him, she wrapped her arm around his neck to anchor herself to him. She gently pulled back, not that she didn't want to continue, but air was important. Keeping her forehead on his, "Why? Donavon. What about me is worth the possible drama?"
Keeping his large hand on her neck, "You do things to me. Yes, the obvious shit you're sexy as fuck, but it's more, from day one you've been kind, you're ridiculously smart, funny, brave. How could I not want that? When I'm with you, I feel like a man."
He knew that talking about an ex, especially an ex-wife isn't smart, but he really wanted her to know. "I was always loyal to Val; never once did I cross a line with anyone. But she pushed our relationship so fast, that I just thought that's what I was supposed to do, but she complained about who I was, what I did, we would fight all the time, but I was trying to be a good husband. Then I met you, you're natural caring nature, your willingness to do what is needed, made me realize that's what I was missing from my life a real partner." Taking a moment to collect his thoughts, "You're not the reason for my divorce, after Cortez brought the police reform, and my then wife, wrote a threatening letter to her, I knew at that moment, she really wasn't made for me. Luckily, we were only married for 2 years, and I had a very sympathetic judge."
Taking a second to rub her cheek, "I'm not telling you this, so you think I hand picked you or you're a replacement, you were always a friend to me and even after my divorce I kept my head forward. I needed to get myself right, but by the time I healed and realized what I wanted, I found myself watching you, and it took a moment, but soon I found myself in knots when you were around." Taking a deep breath, he realized that he just spilled is guts.
Shocked at his revelation, she understood what he was saying. Lightly kissing his lips, "I feel the same way about you." Keeping her head on his, she enjoyed the moment, but alas, her phone was going off again. Groaning at it, "Sometimes technology is a bastard." Sitting up she looked at her phone, snorting seeing that it was Mumford. Putting him on speaker.
"Morning Mumford."
"Hey kiddo, I need a favor."
Rolling her eyes, she could see the amusement on Rocker's face, "Oh yea, what's that?"
"I need you to help Rocker today, he's got his match in the badge vs badge; I need him focused, you'll come to the match and knock some sense into him, right?"
Keeping her eyes on the man, "Yea, of course. What time's the match?"
"3:30PM, I need you in my corner Evie, no one wants to lose if you're standing over them. You're our secret weapon."
Barking out loud, "Really? OK, I promise. I'll be there, cheering loudly, sound good?"
"You're the best Kiddo. Oh, one more thing."
"What's that?"
"Nikki wants another ho-down, I want to give my queen whatever she wants, so do you think we can make that happen sometime?"
Shaking her head, "For you, and Nikki. Of course."
"You're the best!"
"Don't you forget it, I'll see you and Nikki later."
Putting down her phone, "Seems I'm supposed to keep you focused." She teased him.
Kissing her again, "OK. Sounds good to me." Looking at the clock behind him, "I need to get going, and head to HQ, I'll see you later?" he asked.
Standing up and walking him to the door, "Of course. I'll be the one yelling loudly." Seeing him smile made her heart flutter. Standing on her tippy toes, she kissed him and waved as he left her house, watching until he pulled out of the drive. Shutting the door, she took a second to get her brain back on track.
Smiling she had mission, running towards her phone, she started the process of getting everything setup. Mentally planning on how everything would work.
Sending a text to Jessica to give her the address and time of the final event, and the name of the coordinator, Evie set to work. Tonight, she was going to let a little bit more of herself be out there in the world.
Frowning as she entered the arena, she was running late, as she ran through the staging area, she looked at her watch, "Dang it." She could see that they were about to start calling them to ring. Jumping over the gate that separated the audience from the contestants she found Rocker and Mumford talking.
Sliding to a stop, Evie let out a long breath, "Sorry…." Taking a deep breath, "things got a little complicated, but I'm here!"
Mumford laughed, "Damn girl, did you run from the parking lot?" he asked.
Nodding, "Yup." Looking over at Rocker, "told you I'd make it. Even if it was by the skin of my teeth."
He couldn't really hold her because the gloves on his hands, but he wrapped his arm around her, "Glad you're here."
Giving him a hug, she looked over at Mumford who had this stupid grin on his face, "What?" she asked feeling a little self-conscience about it.
Shaking his head, "Nothing kiddo, let's go, we need a win." Putting his arm around her, they walked into towards the ring in full support of their friend.
Evie watched as Rocker dominated the match, while his opponent got a couple of decent shots on him, Donovan was destroying him. For her it was something intriguing to watch, normally his natural calm demeanor was enough to put her at ease, but there wasn't ever a thought that crossed her mind thinking that he couldn't fight, she just never been witness to it. A very tiny part of her was a little intimidated by him.
Shaking that train of thought out of her head, she looked up and could see that he had the man on the ropes. Banging on the ring with Mumford, "COME ON ROCKER!" she yelled over the crowd.
Another devastating right hook and his opponent went down hard.
"7, 8, 9, 10!" The referee was waving his hands it was over.
Evie and Mumford climbed up into the ring, she could see Jack holding up his hand above his head, snorting, she'd love to but that would just look stupid. Patting his back, "I knew you could do it!" she cheered at him.
Ripping off the gloves he leaned down and picked her up and swung her around. Feeling her arms wrap around his neck, he couldn't help but feel a little pride knowing that she was here for him. Placing her down, realizing that he was getting her dirty with the sweat and the blood. "Sorry."
Blushing, "What's a little blood and sweat, right?" she teased. Feeling someone watching her, her eyes darted towards Mumford, the smirk on his face was enough to know that he was figuring out that there was something going on. Thankfully, he didn't say anything.
Slapping his second on the back, "Great job, now let's get you cleaned up so we can head towards the last event later tonight." Looking at Evie, "You gonna come with us kid?" he asked her.
Shaking her head no, "I have some more errands to run, but don't worry, I'll be at the last event." Giving him a hug, she turned to Rocker not knowing he wanted everyone to know that they were…. Taking a second, she had no idea what they were, dating? That was a question to answer on at another time.
Wrapping her hands around him she could feel him giving her a deep squeeze, "I'll see you tonight, right?" her eyes locked to his.
Tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear, he wanted to kiss her, but he had blood in his mouth, placing a kiss on her forehead, "Of course. Call me if you need anything, OK?" his eyes giving no room for arguments.
Stepping back, she nodded, giving him a salute, "Sir, yes sir." Waving to Mumford, Evie turned tail and ran towards the car.
Rocker watched her run, Deacon was right, that girl is fast. He felt someone push him, turning his head he could see Mumford looking at him. "What?"
Rolling his eyes, "Don't screw that up, she's a wife type not a pump and dump." With that he turned towards his truck, leaving Rocker stunned.
"Can you please stop pacing?" Travis snapped.
Giving him a pointed look, "I'm nervous, I mean this isn't in my backyard, this is literally in front of both the LAPD-LAFD, there are at least a hundred people out there." Taking deep and slow breaths, she knew what she was doing, she could do this, but the nerves before she went on was getting to her. Looking down at her outfit, her eyes found Honey, "Do I look OK? Is this stupid?" she asked her.
Rubbing her back, "You look sexy cricket." She wasn't just saying that her friend was wearing a navy-blue spaghetti tank top with LAPD across her chest. Her bottoms were a pair of black cut off jeans, with a pair of navy-blue fishnet stockings with her knee-high boots. Hell, she was wearing the same thing. "We look fierce!"
Laughing at her. "OK. We can do this, I got this, we got this. I will not make an ass out of myself in front of Donovan Rocker." She muttered to herself.
The group huddled together and said a little prayer. Hearing the announcer congratulating Dominique Luca for his win, Evie's eyes fell to her friends, "Let's go!" she shook off her nerves.
Jessica was standing with Hicks, Rocker, Luca, Deacon, Chris, Mumford, and the LAFD guys. She even shot down their captain, "Oh, I'm sorry, I only date winners." She teased. All the while she was looking for Evie, she was starting to worry, she knew that she was trying to put something together, but even if she couldn't, she was surprised she wasn't here. But as she started to pull out her phone, the lights went out, and the screens around them started flashing with LAPD symbol. Her eyes bugged out of her head as she saw Evie and friends step out on the stage.
Travis knew that Evie wasn't big on speaking in front of a crowd, she could sing, but this was different. Standing next to her with his guitar, "As predicted the LAPD won this year's badge vs. badge, so thanks to Captain Jessica Cortez for putting this number on. LET'S ROCK!"
Stepping back, he gave Honey the nod to start with the keyboards, stepping aside he handed her the mic and let Evie stand front in center.
As the music notes hit, Evie took a deep breath and counted the tempo and began singing her heart out. (Champion: By Carrie Underwood Ft. Ludacris.)
As Honey gently played them out with the keyboard, the roar of the crowed stunned Evie. Looking out to the crowd she could see that SWAT was going crazy. Letting out a deep breath, she felt her friends come up next to her, interlocking their arms they laughed with each other.
Travis grabbed the mic, and started a chant, "LAPD, LAPD, LAPD!" Soon the room was filled with people chanting for the LAPD!
Her eyes found Rockers, he was at the edge of the stage, letting go of her friends she walked towards him, she felt his big hands grip her hips and lift her up and down towards his lips. Not giving a care in the world, she kissed him back.
Rocker could hear the wolf calls, but he didn't care, she was his, he was hers, and there wasn't anything that anyone could do or say to change that. Pulling back slightly, "You were amazing."
Wrapping her arms around his neck, "Thank you. So, you do know everyone just saw you kiss me. You ready for all that?" she teased.
Kissing her again, "You're mine, I'm yours." He could see that everyone wanted to talk to her, "Your fans are waiting." Gently placing her down, he kept his hand on her shoulder as she was pulled in a million different directions.
Jessica practically strangled her. "I LOVE YOU! I can't believe that girl! You were fantastic!" she said over the crowd.
"Jess, need air." She squeaked out.
Letting her go, "Sorry. Evelyn, that was fantastic, thank you so much!" She gushed. Looking up she could see that everyone was chatting, even Rocker, but his eyes kept her in his sights. "So, you and Rocker?" She prodded.
"Over dinner. I'll tell you everything." She promised her friend.
Nodding, "He's waiting for you, but you bet your ass we are talking about it." Pulling her into another hug, "I'm happy for you."
Returning the hug, "Thank you Jess." Stepping back, she found herself pulled into his side, her eyes were dancing with joy.
Luca was stunned, all the times she said she told him no, here she was kissing Rocker. He was too pissed to be around him or anyone right now. Making a lame ass excuse, Luca headed home, he needed to get to the bottom of what just happened with her and why she didn't want him.
