River Song did get the hypercube, but she didn't understand why the Doctor and his family were trapped in the Enchanted Forest. The message was rushed. Too rushed. She knew the only person who might be able to help was this Emma Swan. She had to find her. Somewhere. and understood what had happened.
She could tell that a lot had happened, and she wasted no time trying to find the saviour, Emma Swan. And she did. But Emma Swan couldn't remember her life back in Storybrooke. And when River had knocked on the door, Emma slammed the door in her face.
Unknown to River, Emma had built a life for her and her son, Henry. She had a job she enjoyed and an apartment that she liked. And she was seeing this pretty great guy, too.
That night, that was who Emma was with. A man named Walsh. She was having dinner with him at a fancy restaurant.
"How did Henry's volcano do at the science fair?" Walsh asked as he took a sip of red wine out of his glass.
"It was Pompeii again," Emma said, clinking her wine glass with Walsh's. "Thank you for your help."
"Come on, all I did was convince him not to use real lava."
Emma swallowed her sip. "His teachers did appreciate that," she said, opening the menu. "Now, let's eat. I'm starving."
"Let's do it," Walsh agreed with her.
And they did. They ordered their meals and ate them. And an hour later, their plates were empty. Walsh was watching her. "You happy?" Emma tilted her head at him, so he had to elaborate on what he was asking her. "With your food. You happy?"
"Beyond happy," Emma said with a mouthful before swallowing it.
Walsh smiled and leaned forward and touched Emma's hands. "I'll be right back," he said, getting up from his seat.
"Okay," Emma said, getting her phone out and checking a few things. Then, finally, a waitress arrived to clear the table, and Emma looked up. "Thanks," she said, then typed something out into her phone before noticing someone sitting in front of her. She thought it was Walsh. "Hang on. I'm just going to finish one quick thing."
"You are a hard one to track down," River said. "I'll give you that one."
Emma looked up and saw River sitting in front of her. How did she find her here? "You! You are a stalker."
"I can explain," River said. "Hear me out, okay? I've been given strict instructions to find you. And bring you home. To your family."
"My family's right here."
"But not the family you remember. That's why I'm here. To help, try to jog your memory. Your parents are in great danger. Everyone you care about is."
"You have no idea what you're talking about," Emma said.
"Because you think you're an orphan?" River asked. "What if I told you that everything you have ever been told is a lie?"
"You don't know me," Emma said.
"I know you better than you know yourself," River said. "Listen … I have proof." She passed a piece of paper across the table. "An address. If you want to know who you are, go there. And when you do, meet me in Central Park. And I will explain everything. Please don't do it for me. Or for yourself. But do it for your son. Please do it for your family. Your true family. They need your help." River got up from the seat and left Emma alone, still having difficulty processing everything.
Emma was having a look at the paper when Walsh returned. "Hey, what's that?" he asked and sat down in his chair.
"Nothing," Emma said and put the paper into her jacket pocket.
"Hope you're still hungry," Walsh said as a waitress gave them their deserts.
"Oh, Walsh, I couldn't eat another bite."
"You remember our first date? You were yourself so that I couldn't swing a dinner," Walsh said and laughed as he remembered it. It was like yesterday. I brought you here for lunch, which didn't stop you from ordering an ice cream sundae, which wasn't on the menu. So I bribed the chef, and they made one up."
"I remember. I was nervous. Now, I'm full." "Emma, will you at least look at it?"
Emma looked down at her sundae while Walsh moved the plate around slowly until she saw it. An engagement ring.
"Emma … I don't wanna freak you out, but I couldn't wait any longer," Walsh added. "I love you. I love Henry. I love our lives together, and I wanna have a future together." Walsh got up from his seat and moved around to where Emma was sitting, still in shock. It was happening a little fast for her. Walsh knelt in front of her and picked up the ring. "Emma Swan … will you marry me?"
But Emma didn't answer. Instead, she stayed silent, in shock.
She got up from her seat and walked out of the restaurant, with Walsh following her. "Here, I thought the worst thing that could happen was you'd say "no". I never thought you'd walk out on the bill."
"Walsh…" Emma began.
"No, no, no," Walsh interrupted. "I was going to pay. I was … I'm kidding."
"I'm sorry. This wasn't … You just took me by surprise, is all. A lot of things took me by surprise tonight."
"look, the surprise was part of the plan. But I can see now and it was not a great plan. So …"
"Doesn't it all seem a little fast to you?" Emma asked. "I mean, we've only been together for eight months. I've had leftovers in my fridge for longer than that."
"I know. I threw them out. Might've saved your life," Walsh chuckled. "How do you, we, know that this is right?"
"Emma … " Walsh took her hands, " … speaking for myself, I've known this was right since you walked into my furniture shop. Why do you think your order was ready two weeks early?"
"Your commitment to excellence?"
Walsh chuckled, then shook his head. "I couldn't wait to ask you out," he said, moving his hands to her shoulders, making Emma laugh. "It seemed the most non-stalker way to speed things up."
"I love that end table." "That's a start."
"I do love you. You know that, right?" Emma asked. Walsh nodded. "Yeah. I do. And I love you."
"I'm not good at fast."
"I know. I knew who I was proposing to. I knew you would say this was too fast. And that's why we don't have to get married anytime soon. We can wait a year. Or more. Look, I don't care if we don't get married until we are 65 years old, and Henry already has kids. Okay? All I know is that I wanna spend the rest of my life with you."
"Can I have time to think?" Emma asked.
"Take as much time as you need. I will be here when you're ready."
