Clear Blue Sky Ch. 16

Wendy made her way through the halls of HQ, moving quickly, she found Hicks and Mumford leaving his office, "We need to speak commander." Looking over at Mumford, knowing that the circle was small on this.

"Mumford was just brought up to speed, what did you find?" he asked.

Showing him the tablet, "Yurgen Rictor. He's the one that I would look deeper into. I pulled up his court transcripts, he made several open threats against Jim Street." Taking a moment to collect her thoughts, "He meets the criteria of someone who would seek out revenge."

Hicks looked over at Mumford, the Rictor case was one of Streets first within SWAT, kid almost lost his life once to him. Pulling out his phone, he called the prison that he was sentenced to. "Hey George, it's Bob Hicks, need to check on an inmate; Yurgen Rictor." Pausing to listen, "WHAT, when? Jesus, OK, I'll alert my teams." Putting the phone down, "Yurgen Rictor escaped, been in the wind for over a week."

Heading down the hallway, with Wendy and Mumford in tow, he found Rubina sitting at her desk, "Call Street, now."

Picking up the phone, it kept ringing, she tried several times. "No answer sir." Typing in some code, she found that the vehicle was stationary, "Sir, his vehicle has been stationary for over 10 minutes, it's not at the address that he called into to dispatch, it's about 6 miles from that location, he was on the way back here according to his last update." She said to the room.

Mumford and Hicks shared a look, "Do we have any airships in the area?" Turning to another tech, "Get 20 squad to that location, NOW." Taking a second, "Where's 50 squad?"

"Sir, 20 squad is about 10 minutes out, they are in route. 50 squad is still with the bank robbery. The air ship is there now, pulling up the video feed. Now." Rubina said.

Looking up at the screens, made everyone gasp, "Jesus Christ." Grabbing the walkie talkie- "All available units, we have an officer down, and in danger, E. Olympic Blvd and S. Vancouver Ave. NOW." Taking a second 20 squad, "22 David how far out are you?"

"22-David- about 6 minutes out sir."
"Get there faster."

Hicks turned his eye back to the screen, "Come on Evie."

Ringing in her ears brought her back to consciousness, opening her eyes she could feel the blood pouring into her eyes, lifting her hand to her head she could feel the wound, it wasn't too bad, slowly turning her head, she could see that Street was trying to wake up, "Street." Looking down at her body, she could see that she was covered in glass, "Damn it."

Metal opening caught her attention, looking towards the sound, she could see a man grabbing Street, "Did you call 911? He's hurt really bad." She said, her voice was groggy from it bouncing off the window.

A dark laugh pulled her attention, looking up she could see the man dragging Street out of the vehicle, and tossing him across the street. Gasping loudly, she tried to get herself out of the seat, but the seatbelt was stuck. Pulling against it, she looked up and saw the man beating him, Jim wasn't able to fight back. Yanking it "Come on you bastard." She felt it finally give, once she was free, she crawled over the glass, ripping her legs and hands on the glass, but that didn't matter, who ever this man was, he was going to kill Street.

Ungracefully she tumbled out of the door that Jim was pulled out of, shaking her head, she looked up trying to find Jim, getting up, she saw the man pull out a gun, and shoot him in the leg. Evie didn't think, she just let her body react.

Running as fast as her bruised body would allow, as the man was about to fire again at his chest, Evie wrapped her hands around his wrist and throat, pushing him back and the gun to the side, they hit another car that was parked there, slamming the hand with the Glock repeatedly into the car until he dropped it. She knew that she wasn't going to be able to get it, kicking it towards the sewer was the only chance that she had to take it out of the equation, a slight big of relief was felt when she saw it fall down the pipe. But her victory was short lived, pain radiated through her body as he back handed her. She hit the ground hard.

"YOU FUCKING BITCH!" he screamed at her. Picking her up by the back of her shirt, "I've waited almost 2 years to put a bullet in him, now after I kill you, I'm going to kill him." Tossing her into the car she pushed him into. Raising his fist, he was about to bring it down across her face, but she moved. Dodging him.

Barely able to hold herself up, she kept herself between him and Street, "You know that SWAT is on the way. You lost."

Growling out, "You're just one little girl, I'll kill you both." Making his way towards her, he had every intention of strangling her with his bare hands.

Evie watched in slow motion as he made his way towards her, no matter what she would fight for her and Jim's life. Standing as straight as she could, she watched his approach, he was telegraphing his moves, as he made to swing at her, she ducked, bringing her fist to his kidney area and coming up with a uppercut, it was with enough force to send him stumbling back a couple feet.

Rictor didn't expect that, standing up, he came at her again, he was able to get a couple hits on her, but she wouldn't stay down. Screaming out in pain as she kicked his knee.

Hitting the ground, she found him standing over her, knowing that she couldn't keep this up much longer, but he was cocky seeing that his knee was directly in front of her, she took a second and kicked out with as much force as she could manage. Hearing him scream pleased her to know end. Watching him go down to one knee she kicked again but this time towards his nose, the sound of the bone breaking would be something that would stick with her forever.

Evie needed to stand up, she couldn't count on him staying down for long, using all her strength she had, she got to her feet, putting herself in between Jim and the man. Breathing was getting hard, but until someone from the PD came by, she wouldn't stop. She couldn't, Jim was family, SWAT was her family.

Screaming around a broken nose, he was done, he needed to end this now or he would have wasted all that money on Jim's information for nothing. Reaching behind him as he stood, he pulled out his knife, if he couldn't kill Street, he'd kill this little bitch. He could see the fear in her eyes as he stood up, "I'm going to cut you, stem to stern you little bitch."

Realizing that this was it, she was either going to die or she was going to survive. A moment thought of Donovan passed in her head, she loved him, she hoped that he'd pull his head out of his ass soon because she needed to slap him silly and then forgive him. But if she didn't survive this, she'd never get to tell him he was a dumbass.

Locking eyes with her attacker, there was a million witty things she wanted to say, but while Donovan and Chris both took time to teach her fighting, she still had a lot to learn. She needed to focus, her eyes never leaving his shoulders, that's what he said, people can't help but showing their moves; its all in their shoulders. His words echoing in her ears.

Looking up she could see the airship that had been hovering for the last 6 minutes, whatever was about to happen would be witnessed by anyone who was watching at HQ. Looking back at the man that approached her with the knife, well, if I'm dying today, they knew I fought. That was her last thought as he brought the knife down towards her face.

Gripping his hands with hers, she held the knife just centimeters from her neck, holding it for dear life. She could feel him pushing her backwards, doing her best not to lose her footing, she let him move her until something solid stopped her. Locking eyes with him, she could see the pleasure radiating off him.

She could feel her body starting to give, this was not how her life was going to end, she had a million things that she needed to do, mostly tell Donovan no matter what, she would wait until the world stopped spinning for him. Help her nephew learn to hunt, tell Hondo that he has been the best big brother that a girl could have asked for.

Perhaps it was all the things that she had to live for, or her last bit of adrenaline was coursing through her veins, she would never really know, but she pushed him back and got off the car that she was bend across, moving him back, she saw him bring a hand towards her ribs, there was nothing she could do but absorb the hit, but she did, barely registering it, she felt him pull back with his knife hand. As she watched him bring it down, Evie let go with her hand grabbing it with the other, ducking under his arm she used the force to shove the knife straight through his heart.

Holding it there, she watched as the look of surprise than acceptance that he was dying, "Looks like you lost you son of a bitch." Pushing it deeper, Evie gave it a little twist and watched him slump over. Not allowing herself to think about taking his life, she turned her attention towards Street.

Moving as quickly as she could, she could see that his eyes were fluttering open. "STREET, look at me. Keep your eyes on me." Accessing the damage, while his face was bruised, there weren't too many injuries there. Finding the bullet wound she could see that it was bleeding a lot, taking off her belt she wrapped it around his leg, turning into a tourniquet.

Evie found him looking at her, "OMG, you're awake. Are you feeling, OK?" she sputtered.

"You saved my life." His voice was weak, his eyes looking over her bruised face, and the blood running down her head.

"EVIE! STREET!"

Turning her head towards her name, she found Hondo and Luca running towards them, "HONDO! He's been shot."

Running up on her, he could see that she was injured, bleeding, but Street needed to be moved. "LUCA, let's move them, let's haul ass in Black Betty."

All three of them lifted him and moved to the back of Black Betty.

Hondo held the gauze over his leg, looking at Street, he was doing his best to joke around, Evie was holding his hand, and Luca was driving towards the closet hospital. "6 minutes out boss."

The war room in HQ was dead quiet, Hicks turned towards Mumford, "GO. Get there for me, I'll be behind you. 50 Squad is on their way in now. I need to break it to Rocker."

Mumford ran towards his car, his mind replaying the scene that he just watched. She was seriously brave, putting herself in harms way to protect a member of her family.

Evie watched as they brought Street through the surgical doors, her heart was pumping so fast, but she was happy that they got him there. She could feel Hondo rubbing her back, turning to look at him, she felt dizzy, as she looked into his eyes, she felt her legs give out, and all she saw was Hondo trying to hold her up.

"I NEED A DOCTOR NOW!" he yelled out.

A doctor came rushing out, "What happened?" she asked.

"I don't know, we were talking, then she just passed out. She was in an accident earlier." He said, following her to the line.

Holding up her hands, "You can't come back here, I'm sorry. I'll send someone out to update you when we know more."

Luca stood next to Hondo as they shut the doors behind her towards the surgical floor. "She's going to be alright."

Hicks waited outside for 50 squad to roll up, looking at the chiming on his phone, "Shit." Putting the phone away, he waited another 5 minutes before they rolled in, he waited for them to get out of the vehicle. Walking up he could see that Rocker was smiling, and he was about to ruin that.

Rocker looked up as Hick's was walking towards him, "What's up Sir?" he asked.

Noting wanting to beat around the bush, "It's Evie, she was in a car accident with Street," keeping eye contact with him, indicating to get the in truck. As the door shut, "Yurgen Rictor broke out of jail it a week ago, he was the one that caused the accident," Letting out a breath, "Evie stopped him from killing Street, she fought him off, killing him."

Rocker stared at his boss as they drove towards the hospital, he heard everything that was said, but all he wanted to know was if she was OK, "Bob, is she OK?"

With a grim look on his face, "Hondo, and Luca got both of them to the hospital, but it seems she collapsed, and on her way to surgery now. We don't know what's going on with her. Yet." Flooring it to the hospital, he knew that Rocker was on the verge of snapping.

They were standing around the waiting room, when a male doctor came out, "James Street?" he asked.

Standing up, Hicks spoke for the group, "How is he doc?"

Smiling, "Good, he's in recovery, a few bumps and bruises, and the bullet didn't hit anything vital, he should be back to full duty in a month or so."

Everyone was sending their congrats to the that, but it was Rocker that brought the cheering down, "What about Evelyn Powell?" he asked, his voice void of any emotion.

The doctor looked him in the eyes, "I'm sorry, I don't have any information about her. I'll see what I can find."

Sitting back down, everyone was quiet and contemplative, but when Lt. Lynch walked in, she headed right for Hicks, "How are they?" she asked.

Hondo looked up, "Street is in recovery now, Evie, there's been no updates."

Nodding, she sat down with the teams, "She put up one hell of fight. She's the reason that Street's alive, so I have to believe that someone that small, but that strong will fight."

Chris looked up, "You were able to see the fight?" asking the question they all wanted answered.

Nodding, "Yea, the airship was there," pulling out the tablet, she placed it on a table in front of her, and soon everyone crowed behind her. Giving Hicks a small smile, she knew that this wouldn't make it better, but it would make them see that she was willing to put her life on the line for them. That had to count for something. Pressing play, she let them see how brave and strong Evelyn really was.

Rocker didn't take his eyes off the screen until it stopped, his body vibrating with anger, but also with pride, she took every lesson that Chris and he taught her, and used it to not only save herself, but save a member of this team. Walking away he found himself staring out the window, but soon he was joined by Hicks.

"Don't do that." He said. "She's a tough little thing, and I know those moves she was using that was all you. You taught her well Donovan."

Turning his head slightly, "I know I did." Smiling at the memory of her begging him for more lessons, "She was always so eager to learn." Wiping the tear that slide down his face, "When she gets out of this, I'm going to do everything I can to get her to come back to me. I screwed up boss."

There was nothing left to say, Hicks could figure out what happened there, patting him on the shoulder, he was just grateful that he didn't have to go beating some sense into the man.

Hours passed, but finally a doctor came out, "Evelyn Powell?" she said.

Standing up around, Rocker was front and center, "Is she alive?" he asked her. That's all he wanted to know.

Letting out a sigh, "Yes, she is. She's on her way to ICU now," giving each of the cops a look, "there was a lot of internal bleeding, and a few broken ribs, barring and complications, she should make a full recovery." Smiling at the cheering around her, "I'll let the ICU know that SWAT is coming, but please remember, she needs rest. She'll be out for most of the day."

Rocker watched the doctor go, he felt a weight was lifted off his soul, she was alive, and she was going to be OK.

Hours after the last person left, he stayed there holding her hand, refusing to let go. He stared at her face, seeing that it was bruised, some of it was probably from the accident, the rest was from Rictor. If the man wasn't already dead, he'd kill him. Slowly. Bringing her hand to his lips, "Baby. I'm so fucking sorry, I got scared, and I panicked, the thought of losing you was too much, and now here you are, all banged up, I'm so sorry Evie, I love you. And I will do everything in my power to fix what I have broken. Just please, come back to me."

Placing his head on the bed while he held her hands, he was praying for anyone to listen to him.

A light touch on his head got his attention quickly. Looking up, he could see her watching him. "Evie?"

Seeing him look at her, "I love you too, but you're a dumbass." Closing her eyes, "Sleep now."

Kissing her hands, he cried and laughed at her.
