Every Night (Revised)
It was a freezing and unwavering night as objects of white plagued the surroundings like a blanket that covered the town of Funbari Hill. It was winter and almost everything from the outside was contrastingly still and dull but with a certain powdery glow caused by the snow. It was as if there were no living creatures left in the whole area as gusts of strong winds continue to invade.
Despite the disturbing cold and unfriendly weather, someone from the Asakura household was peacefully enjoying the 'bed weather'. As famous for being the resident slacker of all, this lad seemed to have no problems ignoring all the ramblings and clamour produced by the unpredictable climate. His breathing was in a steady tempo, not a single trace of worry evident on his peaceful, sleeping, handsome face. No one would have easily guessed the current heavy responsibilities laid against his shoulders.
All was well when…
Thud—
The sound of the room sliding door robbed the young man from his peaceful slumber. He stirred and tried his hardest to open an eye to be accustomed to the darkness in the room. He gently gestured sideways to search for a certain blonde, always being careful not to cause any disruptions because he very well knows that- that is not a good idea.
"Anna?" he managed to breathe out.
No response.
At the sound of silence, he immediately opened his eyes fully and sat-up in bed, the thick blanket sliding off his chest. The feeling of the unnerving cold started to seep through his clothes earning himself a slight shiver.
He turned to his side only to notice an empty space beside him. There was nothing else besides a couple of pillows jammed together.
He turned to the clock on the wall in front of him and it read 2:00 AM.
"What could she be up to at this hour?" He started to force himself out of bed when he heard a cry.
A baby's cry to be exact.
"Oh," was all he could muster realizing the answer to his own question.
He exhaled.
. . . . . . . . . . .
A certain blonde lady is seen striding towards the room next to theirs. Her long lashes, mesmerizing amber eyes, ivory skin, and serene face all inevitably glowed under the moonlight. She sighed heavily as she turned on the lights inside the room she has just entered.
She took a few strides and bent down to the baby cradle to reach for the only source of sound emitting from their house.
"What's the matter again, huh?" she told the cherub-like creature cradled into her arms, as if it could understand her at that very moment.
Anna managed to rub her eyes with her fingers then blinked them twice to avoid blurred vision since it was pretty evident that she got up from her passive snooze.
The baby continued to cry uncontrollably like it was begging for something else making it more unclear for his mother to decipher what it wanted this time.
"Ugh, you can't do this to me every night, Hana—I meant, every morning" the young mother complained, realising the time after glancing at the clock. "What do you want this time?" she continued, starting to be annoyed with her son's relentless cries.
She gently hugged and swayed the little angel in an attempt to lull it to sleep but to no avail.
Anna could feel her knees slowly giving-up and her body was beginning to numb due to obvious lack of rest. A feeling of light-headedness was also starting to creep up.
For the past three weeks, around the same unreasonable hours, baby Hana would awaken and would start crying for God knows what reasons, causing his parents' inescapable lack of rest.
Noticing that there was no progress in putting the baby into 'silent mode', Anna rolled her eyes muttering silent curses signalling that she was about to lose her temper soon.
But she could not do that, could she? She cannot afford to be annoyed at her son because whatever the situation may be, she must understand him. Afterall, he's just a baby.
But still…
Their tough situation could not be called the most normal of all, too. Yes, most especially for parents who were not even 'adults' to begin with.
Sure, they always seemed mature for their age, but they were apparently young and inexperienced parents.
After racking her brain for any ideas related to calming her son down, Anna heard the sliding door opened revealing Yoh still with innocent sleepy eyes.
"Something wrong, Anna?" he managed to say gently with a tinge of worry.
Anna glared at him with the most unbelieving look she could muster.
'Is he for real?'
"Yes! Yes there is something wrong!" she finally snapped.
Yoh blinked at her sudden outburst, making him fully awake now.
"My ass is asleep, my knees are asleep, even my toes are asleep, but for some reason, your son is the only one awake!" Anna continued her tirade. "If it isn't obvious yet, your son woke me up again for no apparent reason!" she continued.
'Why is he suddenly just my son?'
Yoh pondered, but he decided it was best to keep quiet. He knew Anna was definitely annoyed right now. It wasn't the right time to challenge her with something futile.
"Eh? Again? I thought I've already attended all his needs before I cradled him to sleep last night. Hm, that's weird," he muttered holding his chin in deep thought, unaware of the impending doom he was about to receive from his young wife.
"Oh, I know! Maybe he is awake now because I let him sleep all afternoon," he chuckled, still oblivious to the blonde who's about to explode.
"I don't care! Whatever the reason is, I could not care less! I may be standing here right now but I swear every inch of my body is starting to betray the last few rational parts of my brain!" There. She just lost it, alright.
Anna marched towards Yoh and passed Hana to him in one swift motion.
Her husband blinked.
"It's your turn. Just do something to make him stop bawling. If he still doesn't stop, just leave him alone then!" She stomped out of the room furiously.
Yoh just dumbfoundedly stared at the spot she left while Anna headed downstairs.
He smiled.
"Now, now, we both know you mother didn't really mean that, yes?" he mused as he stared warmly into his son's tearful puppy eyes.
. . . . . . . . . . .
Meanwhile, Anna reached the kitchen downstairs. She sat on one of the bar stools, one of her hands found its way into a cookie jar that she managed to snatch from the top cabinets. She ended up already eating a couple in a short span of time. Man, her son really did make her all worked-up like that, didn't he?
She was drowned in deep thought while munching on another cookie. The thought of Hana made her pout.
She wasn't really that angry with him, was she? She blamed it all on the fatigue. She wouldn't naturally act like that if exhaustion wasn't rubbing on her. She was just tired.
'Mothers are also allowed to feel tired, aren't they?'
When she finished her snack, she stood-up and placed the jar of cookies back to its place. Then, she decided to ready a bottle of milk for Hana. There was no way she was going to breast feed him this time despite every fibre of her being wanted to. She was just, too flat-out for that.
After putting the cap on, she began to shake the bottle to mix the contents of the baby milk. She was still in her deepest thoughts.
"I must have been too harsh back there," she thought.
Just as she was almost done preparing the milk, she felt too strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind.
Anna got startled that she almost released the bottle from her grasp.
"Hey there." Yoh's gentle voice crept in her ears.
"Yoh, what do you think you're doing?" she started in surprise.
"Embracing my wife and the mother of my child?" he replied innocently with a muffled voice as he nestled his face on the left side of her head.
"Hm, haven't you become bold?" she said sarcastically.
"Did you come here to have a snack?" he continued trying to stir her away from further annoyance.
She sighed with exhaustion evident in her tone, "well, I'm all done with snacking now, thank you very much."
Yoh also sighed, feeling her apparent lack of energy.
His hands gently grabbed her hips and slowly turned her around to face him, his eyes warmly gazing into hers.
"Anna, just try to loosen up a bit, will you? It's okay. Don't worry about Hana too much," Yoh tried to reassure her.
Silence.
She sighed again for almost the nth time now. She avoided his gaze and fixed her interest at the small wisps of hair on the side of her husband's neck.
"I know. It's—it's just that I was too tired to even have my brain functioning properly up there. I didn't mean what I have said earlier," the blonde replied while hugging him, burying her face on his chest.
They both stayed in that position for almost like an eternity until the brunette slightly leaned back, reached for her chin, and gently tilted it up so he could look straight into those mesmerizing honey-coloured eyes of hers. Those eyes which made him fall in love with all these years. Those eyes that conveyed a thousand different things which only he was trained to understand without even uttering a single word. Their unique ability of communicating helped him to comprehend her thoughts without the need for words.
"It's okay. Hana's not mad at you, you know," Yoh joked and flashed his most reassuring smile which she could not resist.
A genuine smile escaped Anna's lips.
It was when he seized the moment and lowered his head onto hers. Their lips met in a brief sweet moment.
Fluttering her eyes open to look up against his gaze once again, Anna stared into his deep chocolate eyes with such intense passion.
Searching.
Yearning.
And they both seemed to understand what they wanted at that moment.
Besides, who needs sleep, right?
Her hands swiftly encircled his neck pulling him down towards her as she tip-toed to match the difference in their height.
He gladly obliged as his lips came crashing into hers.
Anna moaned into his mouth as his tongue brushed against her lower lip to obtain permission, which she gave away in an instant.
They both continued their journey to cloud nine as his hands travelled down from the side of her breasts to her hips, then down to her thighs aiming to gradually lift-up her robe. Her hands continued messing with his hair while they both deepened the kiss.
"So- you think—this could be a- long night?" Yoh muttered between hot kisses, smirking at the hidden message he was trying to send her.
"Hmm—we'll see," Anna replied mischievously as she received the idea.
He took another opportunity to grab her waist and almost roughly whipped her around. Her back now facing him, while she leaned forward against the counter sink.
Yoh proceeded with his daring advances as he brushed her hair aside to gain access to her neck. "Aw, come on, Anna. Our son's alone- in his room- now. I think we have—enough time without—any interruptions," Yoh successfully murmured whilst nibbling on her neck.
"Idiot." Anna snickered whilst closing her eyes shut. Her hands now supporting her weight as she leaned further on the counter.
She let out a sudden gasp as she felt him press something hard against her behind.
She felt his hands were about to reach to untie the waistband of her yukata when something dawned unto her.
"It's your turn. Just do something to make him stop bawling. If he still doesn't stop, just leave him alone then!"
Her eyes snapped open.
"Yoh!" she shrieked.
"Huh!? What did I do!?" the brunette jumped, bewildered with her sudden change of mood.
"What do you mean Hana is alone in his room now? You mean, you literally left him like I said so?" she panicked.
Anna knows her husband is capable of many things. One of which is being able to follow her wishes, sometimes, too literally.
"Well, yeah, but—" he tried to reason out despite still being clueless about her outburst when suddenly…
Click—
Total darkness filled the room.
"Oh, crap. They finally decided to cut the power because of the weather like they mentioned in the news," Yoh suddenly recalled what he saw on the television yesterday.
He waved his hands to reach for his lovely wife by his side.
"Anna, are you okay?"
Silence.
"Oh God, no." He heard her panic-ridden voice and her hurried footsteps towards the stairs.
"Anna, wait!" Yoh called out but he knew she had already sprinted her way out of the kitchen.
. . . . . . . . . .
After scrambling through the cupboards to find the emergency lights, Yoh rushed upstairs to follow Anna.
'How the heck did she manage to move through the lack of light without even bumping onto something and getting hurt?' he thought. His instincts telling him to go straight to the nursery room.
He stopped in front of the sliding door and exhaled while opening it.
"Anna?" Yoh began.
Silence.
He lifted his hand to align the emergency lights towards his line of sight and what he witnessed will surely be embedded in his treasured memories all his life.
There she was, the love of his life, in all her captivating glory as the moonlight seeping through the large windows perfectly highlighted her undeniable gorgeous form. Her fluttering eyelashes casted a shadow on her slightly flushed cheeks. Her supple lips slightly opened and her long golden locks enveloped her and their son like a soft silky veil under the night sky. She was modestly sitting on the floor as she cradled the little one.
It was one of those moments that always had Yoh speechless.
"Anna, are the two of you al—" he started to walk towards the two most important beings in his life, when his sentence was cut off.
"Shhh, he's still sleeping," Anna murmured, still not taking her eyes off away from her son. Her voice was a bit muffled as her face nestled onto Hana.
Yoh smiled warmly.
"I was successful in making him sleep after you left us here, you know," he spoke, sitting himself on the floor next to his wife.
Anna looked at Yoh and he swore he saw a lone tear escaped her eye.
He almost panicked, his face etched with worry.
"I thought you opted to leave him here alone and awake like I had told you a while ago. I imagined he would have been scared after the lights went out," she reasoned out.
Yoh chuckled.
"What's so funny?" Anna frowned while glaring at him.
"Nothing. You're just too cute, Anna," he smiled sheepishly.
"I told you, just loosen up a bit. We are in this together," Yoh continued while admiring the sight of Anna and the adorable little blonde in her arms. He leaned close to both of them then planted a soft kiss on her forehead while caressing his son's chubby cheeks.
"Fine," she sighed while bringing her soft gaze onto the little bundle of joy in her gentle embrace.
Anna started to get-up on her feet with Yoh helping her to maintain her balance.
She then placed Hana back to his cradle.
He seemed to still be sleeping like a log but as the dedicated mother tried her best not to disturb the baby's quiet snooze, Anna gasped as she saw Hana slowly opened his eyes.
'Oh God, no.'
Seeing the little devil beginning to move awake, Anna sweat-dropped.
"Yoh?"
"Hm?" he replied.
"Remember when you asked me if this could be a—how did you put it- a long night?" she asked, now with a coy smirk.
"Uhm, yeah?" Yoh immediately answered, now with complete interest upon remembering their little 'escapade' at the kitchen.
"Come here," Anna called him in the most alluring way she could.
'Now we're talking,' Yoh thought as he excitedly neared Anna. He bit his lower lip to prevent his stupid smirk from being too obvious.
Anna gestured for her unsuspecting husband to look inside the cradle.
Yoh peaked into the crib, his brown eyes meeting tiny honey-almond ones.
Realizing that his precious son is now fully awake again…
"Ugh, Hanaaa-!"

A/N: Sooo! After a decade and a half, I now finally decided to write something again! We'll a revision, actually. Now, this story may be a tad bit familiar because like I said, it is a revision of my work with the same title, which I published on May 2006, under the pseudo name—hannami08; back when I was in my early teenage years. You may notice the same main concept if you will compare the original and this revised version, but I tried to improve the contents and added some *cough* things. LOL. I had been an S.K. fan and a heavy OTP shipper for almost 2 decades now (stop doing the maths to figure out my age *throws a katana at you*) and I have no plans on stopping now. Hence, this. Hihi.
Since I could not retrieve my old FFnet account anymore, and because I religiously went back to reading SK fics again (not that I ever stopped), and because I recently joined an SK server where I could shamelessly squeal like a crazed schoolgirl together with other shippers with brilliant, creative, inspiring minds, aaand because I wanted to review other authors' great works and encourage (more like 'harass') them to continue updating, I created this account.
Hope to create and share more OTP goodness soon!
Kindly review and send me some luv? *flying kisses*
