Hook and Ariel arrived at Mr Gold's pawn shop, and they entered through the door. Ariel poked her head inside and entered first. "Belle!" she called out.
Belle was at the counter, and she looked up from the book she was reading. "Ariel?" she asked and approached her friend. "Where have you been? I was worried I'd never see you again."
"I've been looking for Eric," Ariel said as she hugged Belle. "He's been missing since we all returned."
"We were hoping we could find something of his here," Hook said as he walked past the two friends.
"Well, you certainly did come to the right place," Mr Gold said as he entered the shop front from the back room.
Ariel turned to where the voice had come from. "Have you seen anything of his?"
"No. We haven't," Mr Gold said. "This is my first chance at sorting through everything since we were all dragged back to Storybrooke again. Many new objects have found their way inside these walls. I will give you that."
Belle nodded, then looked at Ariel. "Let's not despair. We'll start looking."
As they all started to look, Hook made his way into the back room and stopped at the door. He looked around at everything before spying something on a set of drawers beside the door he was standing at. His spyglass. He chuckled. "I've been wondering where you went," he said as he leaned over and picked it up.
He extended it and held it up to his eye, looking around the office through it. And all the antiques lining the walls. Until he saw something that made him double back. A gold clasp with the symbol of Ursula, the Sea Goddess, on it. The same logo was affiliated with the maritime kingdom that Prince Eric was from. He slowly lowered his spyglass and approached it.
He pulled back the blanket over it and examined it more.
"That's Eric's!" Ariel exclaimed as she followed everyone into the back room. "How did you know that was his?"
"I, uh … I wasn't sure," Hook whispered, his eyes still looking at the clasp and cloak. The same one that Ariel was wearing back in the Enchanted Forest. "I saw the sea creature clasp and remembered he was from a maritime kingdom."
"He is! He was! And now he's here," Ariel said as she approached Hook and hugged him.
"I'm sorry to disappoint, but no. Just because his cloak is here doesn't prove that your Prince Eric is also here in Storybrooke," Mr Gold said. "But leave that to me. I may have something that will help find your Eric. Take that old cloak, and follow me." Mr Gold turned around and headed back to the counter in the front.
Ariel grabbed the cloak, and she followed him out into the shop front. The others followed and saw Mr Gold holding a vial of clear liquid. A potion. Ariel gave Mr Gold the cloak, placing it on the counter.
"What are you going to do?" Ariel asked. "How are you going to find Eric?"
"With magic, of course," Mr Gold answered as he doused the cloak with the potion from the vial. "A locator spell. Whatever object that it has been poured over becomes enchanted. It becomes a talisman. It will lead the way to your prince."
"Thank you. To all of you," Ariel said. "You didn't have to do this."
"Perhaps a little good news around here will be contagious," Belle said before looking down at the cloak. They all looked down at the cloak as it started to rise, and it flew out of the shop.
Ariel was the first one to follow it out of the shop. "Let's go!"
Ariel and Hook followed the cloak through the down until it led them to the docks. And all this time, Ariel stayed hopeful that she would be reunited with Eric.
"We must be getting close," Ariel said. "Maybe he's on one of those boats."
But the cloak never landed on a boat. Instead, it landed on the surface of the water.
"It must be searching …" Ariel said before the cloak disappeared under the water. She stared at it before taking a deep breath. No. She wasn't going to cry. Not now. "If the spell worked, and it's taken us to Eric, then he's gone." She turned to Hook and placed her head on his shoulder. But she couldn't help herself. She let out a few tears for her lost love.
Hook stared at the water in thought, remembering the past year, as he slowly hugged Ariel. "I'm sorry," he said. For everything.
Minutes later, Ariel was looking at the sea again. Her eyes fixated on the horizon as she remembered Eric. "I saved Eric from the sea once before," she said. "I just never thought that I would lose him to it in the end."
"A sailor couldn't hope for a better resting place," Hook told her, who was standing a few metres back.
Ariel turned back to him. "Thank you," she said.
"I didn't do anything," Hook said as he began to approach Ariel. He had to come clean. He had to share with her what he knew.
"You found Eric's cloak. I would never have stopped looking for him. But, at least now, I know that our story is over," Ariel said, then sighed. She thought their story would have been longer. "I just wish I knew how it ended." She turned back to Hook and rested a hand on his arm. "You're more than a pirate, Hook. You have a true heart. I'll always be grateful that you tried to help me." Looking down, Ariel turned to leave the docks, leaving Hook alone, who had turned around and watched her.
