An hour later, Mr Gold had found Emma and Hook in Granny's Diner after he made sure that Belle, the Professor and Clara were securely safe from Zelena (if she managed to try something) and told them of what he had found out. What Zelena's plan was. Although he did know something, he had to make sure. And to have done that, he wanted to do his research. There was too much at stake for guesswork.
They rounded up David and went over to Regina's mansion, where Mary Margaret had stayed behind, and they saw Regina pushing something with her magic through a portal.
"What the hell was that?" Emma asked.
"Cora," Regina said as David walked over to his passed out wife in the chair. Regina walked over to them. "Is she okay?" she asked of Mary Margaret, whom Cora's spirit had temporarily taken over.
"Mary Margaret, can you hear me?" David asked.
"It's Cora," Mary Margaret weakly said. "Not what we thought. She's trying to communicate."
"She was?" Regina asked. "What did she say?"
"Leopold, my mother. My mother …"
"Shh," David said. "Mary Margaret, relax."
"She's not making sense," Emma said. "We need to call a doctor."
"If she knows something that could help us…" Regina told Emma. "Regina, it's gonna have to wait," David said.
"It can't wait!" Regina snapped. "If we want to stop Zelena, we have to know what the hell she's doing and why."
"Let me explain it to you," Mr Gold said. They all looked at him.
"What?" Regina asked.
"Zelena is planning on going back through time. I had my suspicions, of course, but now I am certain." Mr Gold turned to Regina. "Told you it was dark magic."
"Are you certain?" Regina asked.
Mr Gold nodded. "And she thinks she can succeed. Brains, courage, a resilient heart … They are all in every time travel spell I have come across."
"But why create a spell to go back in time?" David asked. "Surely, the TARDIS …"
"Makes time travel more complicated," Mr Gold interrupted. "The TARDIS is old. It never takes you to where you want to go. And then there's the fact that the controls are isomorphic, meaning only certain people can operate the ship. So a time travel spell is easier for her to accomplish. To get a hold of."
"What is she even trying to accomplish?" David asked.
"She didn't …' Mary Margaret said, looking over at everyone. "Zelena didn't want to give up Zelena. She was forced to by … By my mother, Princess Eva. She told a secret, just like I did."
"Wait," Emma said. "I thought our family were the good guys."
"Nothing is that simple, Miss Swan," Mr Gold said. "Nothing is ever black and white."
"You're saying if it weren't for Snow's mother, Cora would've kept Zelena?" David asked.
"I would have trained her to cast the Curse," Mr Gold said.
"And all if it wasn't for this Princess Eva?" Hook asked.
"So, that means …" Emma began.
"Zelena is going back to kill my mother," Mary Margaret finished.
"You'll have never been born," Regina stated.
"I'm guessing this is where your help ends," Emma said.
"Now, think it through, Miss Swan. That means you'll have never been born. And neither will Henry."
"And on this different path, Regina, you may not be either," Mary Margaret told her.
"It's a good thing no one other but Time Lords have succeeded with this time travel nonsense," Hook said.
"The baby," David said. "Ellie … She's the key to succeeding in the time travel spell."
Mr Gold nodded. "Any baby born of true love would do. But my goddaughter has Time Lord DNA. And Time Lord DNA is spliced with essence from the time vortex. I presume that makes Zelena want her more than your own."
"Zelena has gone to too much effort to get close to both," David began. "We are going to stop her. She won't get her hands on any baby. Ellie, or our unborn child. She can't get hold of Ellie or ours. She's stuck. We have what she needs … Time."
