Zelena was then taken to the Sheriff's Station and placed in a cell. She sat on the cot in the cell, and she was wrapped in a large, grey blanket. She glared at her sister on the other side of the bars. She didn't think that Regina had it in her to defeat her. "Why, Regina?" she asked. "Why not just kill me and put me out of my misery?"
"Because I know why you did what you did," Regina answered her. "We're much alike. Our mother ruined you, too. So I know what it's like not to have the life you wanted. The life you feel you deserve."
"Oh, boo-hoo," mocked Zelena. "You had to be Queen." She wished she was a Queen. Someone who was regal. Someone who was feared and respected at the same time. "You know nothing. I saw it all. You had everything."
"Did I?" Regina asked. "So, you missed the part where I lost the love of my life." "Mother did all that for you to achieve greatness."
Regina shook her head. Zelena still wasn't getting it. "Not long ago, I was a lot like you. I wanted to kill someone who wronged me. And I failed. Had I killed Snow White, I wouldn't be in this world. I wouldn't be with these people, and I wouldn't have my son, Henry. So, no, Zelena. I won't kill you. Instead, I'm going to give you what I got. I'm going to give you a second chance."
"What if I don't want it?"
"Well, that would be a mistake, dear. Take it. Use it. Evil isn't born. It's made. And so is good. If I were you, I'd consider creating a new destiny." Regina got up from the chair she was sitting on and walked closer to the bars. "Because if you don't, I'll be right there to take your heart and crush it. If you'll excuse me, I should put this somewhere safe," Regina told her as she looked down at the green pendant full of Zelena's magic.
And she did. She went down into her vault and placed it in a wooden box. The same kind that she had used to store the hearts of her victims.
In the pawnshop, Mr Gold was at the counter, and he was looking at the different items placed on it. He was in too much deep thought. The words that the Professor had said to him still roamed inside his head.
He took a sigh, walked over to a mirror and looked at his reflection. When he saw the door open, Belle entered. He smiled. Belle – his one true love. The Professor was right. She did see the good man inside him, and he wanted to be that man for her desperately. It was what she deserved. They walked toward each other and met in the middle, and they both hugged each other.
"After everything I did, you always come back to me," Mr Gold said. "Your unwavering faith in me constantly astounds me."
Belle pulled apart from the hug, but she stayed close to her boyfriend. "It wasn't you. It was Zelena," she told him. Well, back when Zelena had held him captive.
"It wasn't always Zelena. I will comprehend why you continue to stand by my side."
"I love you," Belle whispered. She stroked the side of Mr Gold's face, brushing some hair away from his eyes. "I always have." She turned to the bag she had brought in with her and took out the Dark One dagger.
"How did you get that?" Mr Gold asked, pointing to it.
"The Professor gave it to me. He knew that I wouldn't abuse its power. And if someone had to give this back to you, he wanted it to be me. But, I want you to have it."
"Why?"
"Because I believe in you." Belle held it out to him. "It's yours. You're a free man. Just promise me one thing. Promise me you won't go after Zelena. I know you're better than that."
"Oh, Belle," Mr Gold whispered, his voice breaking. It was a lovely gesture. He took the dagger from Belle. "What you're giving me is more than I can ever give you. But I will try. This?" He held up the dagger. "This is trust. It means you trust me with all your heart."
"I do."
"And I shall trust you with mine." He gave the dagger back to Belle, holding it in front of her. "Take it. I am now, and for all the future, yours."
"What are you saying?" Belle asked.
"Will you marry me?" Mr Gold whispered.
Belle smiled at the words, and she nodded. "Yes." She took the dagger from Mr Gold and placed it on the counter beside her. "Yes! Yes!" She leaned closer into him, and wrapped her arms around him and kissed him deeply.
At the sheriff's station, Zelena had her back to the cell bars. But, she heard footsteps approach her. She knew it could only be one person. "Regina? I didn't expect you back so soon."
"I don't imagine you expected me at all, dearie," came Mr Gold's voice behind her.
Zelena turned around and saw him standing in front of the bars. She sighed. "What are you doing here?" she asked.
"What do you think?"
"You can't kill me, Rumple. The Professor has your dagger."
"He gave it to Belle."
"And she wants me dead?" "No. Of course not."
"Well, then you'll have to do what she wishes. If she has the dagger, you have no choice."
"Yes. If she has the dagger. But she doesn't." Mr Gold removed the dagger from behind his back and showed it to her. Zelena jumped out of her seat on the cot when she saw it. "She only thinks she does. You see, my father taught me something, the only useful thing he passed on. A bit of sleight of hand called 'follow the lady'. Belle has a fake. This, however, is quite real." Holding up the dagger, he disappeared and then reappeared on her side of the bars.
Zelena was panicked. She was scared. With no magic, she couldn't defend herself. She backed towards the back wall of the cell. "Wait, wait. I'm powerless now. Regina's got my pendant. I can't hurt anyone. I can't. Why?" she asked, breathing heavily, watching as Mr Gold kept approaching her.
"Because I promised my son his death would be avenged. And Rumplestiltskin never breaks a deal." He pushed the dagger into Zelena's stomach, and she turned to porcelain. He then removed the blade from her, and she cracked and fell to the ground. He looked down at the pieces. He kicked one piece with his foot before he turned around and exited the cell. But what he didn't see was that when he left, the remaining fragments of Zelena disappeared in a whirl of green smoke. Back to Zelena's pendant.
The box that contained the pendant glowed green, and it opened. A stream of green magic smoke flowed from it and made its way through the town towards Zelena's farmhouse. It entered the barn and swirled around the circular pattern etched into the ground before opening a time portal.
