Mini-chapter: What is Ghoul Break
"Ghoul break?" Luz asked excitedly. "What's that? Sounds cool!"
It was Friday and school had just let out, so Luz and her friends were waiting for their family to pick them up. Willow and Gus had just informed their human friend about the event coming up.
"We have school off all of next week," Willow explained, ever the gentle flower.
Luz's eyes sparkled with this new information. "Oh, I get it! We have something like that in my home; we call it spring break."
Now it was Gus's turn to get excited. He got out a pencil and notepad, and basically got in his friend's face.
"Human thing. Human Things! Tell everything and don't skip one detail." Luz could see, from the corner of her eye, Willow shook her head and gently scolded her younger friend about personal space. Gus took a moment to calm himself before asking his new question. "What causes schools in the human realm to close for an entire week?"
"Well…" Luz tipped her chin as she thought about spring break but was drawing a blink. "I don't know. We just take a break. Isn't it the same here?"
"Oh there's a reason for ghoul break," Amity replied, appearing next to her girlfriend.
Luz let out a cute squeak and brought her hands up to her face as she fell to her side. Gus and Willow rolled their eyes at this, but a small laugh did escape them.
"Oh hey Amity," Luz chipped happily as her girlfriend helped her up.
The two exchanged their usual banter, but it wasn't long before the subject returned to the ghoul break.
"So, what happens on Ghoul break?" Luz asked, getting excited again.
"Well, for the next seven to nine days the boiling isle is at its coldest," Amity explained and let out a little laugh. "Can you believe it, it actually gets colder than 85 degrees."
The three natural-born witches shared a good laugh at this inside joke, but Luz just felt awkward. So, she just let out a nervous laugh. Once the group settled down, Willow took over explaining things.
"During this time, the ghouls would come out in larger numbers and slightly stronger than normal. So, to keep them from overrunning the towns, the school's staff use a series of artifacts to call them to the schools, and use them to keep them on the grounds until things are back to normal."
Luz nodded, not fully understanding everything but learning not to question things…too much. The four might have continued their chat, but Eda showed up, and it meant it was time for Luz to head home. The group exchanged their usual good-byes and Luz hopped onto the staff.
The flight home was anything but dull; Luz excitement was building as she thought about the next nine days. All the fun things she could do with her friends, all the cute moments she would share with her girlfriend.
She was so giddy she was hopping in place. This didn't last, as an old memory from a moment she shared with her mother during spring break popped into her head. Suddenly, everything else seemed so small and distant.
It was decided at that moment…she would spend all of Ghoul Break working on her door.

Yeah, yeah, I know I'm going to get ripped-on for basically taking a scene directly from the show. Well… it's my story and it just a E-dump, so *blow a raspberry at the readers*
