Chapter 3: Reunited
Still at the house:
It's mid-day and Clark is watching Lois after she hung up the phone with their son. She appeared agitated and upset. "Come and sit down. It's clear from that call that Jason has no clue about me. Why haven't you told Jason anything about me?"
After that question, she turned to face him. "Clark, he knows that Superman is his biological father but that's all he knows." She paused. "After Richard moved out, his affection for him hasn't diminished; in fact, it's grown stronger. I truly didn't know the truth about you until now, but we will tell him and soon." She paused thinking of their son. "He's a lot like you. He has your temperament meaning he's quiet and he doesn't talk much, but his powers are there; they're dormant for now but they could resurface at some point in the future; I have no way of knowing."
"I see what you're saying, but it's time for him to know meaning me, Clark Kent. He hasn't reached his teen years and he may never need to use his powers at all, but in order for him to do that, he needs to learn control before he reaches puberty." He paused and thought of his early years. "It's possible that he could live his entire life and not use them. He needs to know that, and it may give him comfort to know the truth about his emerging powers." He paused again. "I know about the yacht and how he became exposed to green kryptonite by Luthor. That would explain why his powers of strength appeared that young and he pushed the piano and saved your life. Has he shown any other powers since then?"
"No, nothing at all. What are you thinking?"
He took her hand. "Jason could grow up to be extremely powerful if he doesn't learn control." He paused at his next words. "Lois, you do know that he has both human DNA and Kryptonian DNA which means his dominant genes could over-ride his human genetics he inherited from you and that it could be dangerous for him and anyone around him. He could hurt someone without meaning it. Yes, I'm talking about the yacht."
She sighed and covered her face with both hands concerned for their son. He placed his arm around her shoulder to give her comfort. "He needs to be told as soon as possible," he said.
She pulled away unsure what to do, but Clark is here now. "You're right; he has to know, but I need to say this."
"What is it? Is this about Jason?"
"No, it's about me and all the time you were gone. My memories were not there, but I had my son and although I had no memories of you, I did sense that something is missing in my life. You have no idea how it changed me." She paused as her eyes roamed over his face. "I need you to understand what I went through and now that you're back, everything has changed. When I saw you on the plane, you came back, but I realized that my feelings for you were still there." She paused and squeezed his hand. "With you, I've loved you for a long time, but after you left us, I tried to hide it and to ignore it. I fought it, second guessed it, cursed it, but I tried everything but accept it and now that you're here with me, I never thought I could only let it flow, let us flow." Her eyes watered feeling her love for him including gratitude that he still loved her.
He touched her cheek. "I love you, Lois."
"I love you Clark, always and forever."
He wiped away a stray tear, then they kissed repeatedly loving every minute of it. He pulled away but he felt confused. "I thought you didn't remember any of our past together."
"Clark, I realized that the memories of us were gone but the feelings were there; they never went away. At first, I didn't know what it meant but holding Jason in my arms, all of it came back, not all at once. My feelings for the love of my life; I knew what it meant."
He shook his head at her. "Are you saying that you didn't remember us, but you still loved me? You're amazing and I love you so much."
"I love you too," she said and smiled, but before they could kiss again, her cellphone rang. Still staring at the other, then she picked up the phone. "Hello, Richard, what's going on; how's Jason?" She put the phone on speaker.
"Hey, Lois, something happened a little while ago. Jason is here with me; he's fine, but…" He hesitated.
"What happened?" Lois asked; she glanced at Clark.
"We're at the zoo, and there's an area for the kids to touch certain animals, but he may have hurt a pony; I'm not sure."
"What do you mean hurt?" Clark asked.
"I know that voice. Is that Clark Kent? What is he doing with you?"
"He's a friend to me and I'm glad he's here. Put Jason on the phone please."
"Mom, it's me; I'm okay," Jason said.
"Tell me what happened honey." Lois said.
"I stroked the pony's back, but he ran away from me. I think he's fine, but we need to wait to find out."
"Everything is going to be all right. Put Richard on the phone."
"Lois, we're here with the zoo attendants and it appears the pony is fine; he felt startled; but he's fine now."
Relieved, she said. "Thanks Richard. Tell Jason if he wants to come home, he can; it's up to him."
"Do you want to stay here with me or go home? Your Mom says it's up to you."
"I can stay Mom; it's okay," Jason replied.
"Bye honey; we'll see you in about a week. I love you."
"Bye, Mom, I love you." They hung up.
Clark's feelings about Richard rises. "Does he know that we're together? I mean, he needs to know about us." He asked feeling jealous.
"Now Clark, Richard knows why we broke up because I had feelings for someone else. He assumed it's Superman, but no, he doesn't know it's you, but I'll tell him when the time is right."
"Alright, but I should be with you when you tell him."
"Yes, I agree, and it can be arranged for you to be there; please don't worry."
"I'm not worried," he said but he's still jealous.
She glanced at his face. "Now about Jason; you're right; he needs to know."
"Come here; I'm sorry I asked about Richard; I'm sure he knows it's over between you two." He apologized and pulled her close again. "Everything you told me about how you remembered our life together after you had Jason, I'm sorry you went through that, but I'm happy all of it is in the past and we can move forward. Jason is our miracle child and I love him, but he'll be okay after we explain to him about his powers, touching people and animals too. He'll learn; don't worry."
"I am worried, but we can do this. You said you'll be here for him; won't you?"
He nodded. "Of course, I will. As I said, I'm not going anywhere without my family. We're a family, Lois, believe it because it's true."
"Yes, we are, and I believe you," she said and pulled him close.

Monday morning, at the Planet:
Clark had been reinstated at the Planet and they're partners again. Perry felt thrilled to have his star reporters back together again. Although Clark had explained his sabbatical, but Perry is worried about them. Richard had told him why their relationship fell apart because she had feelings for someone else and they parted as friends. He didn't mention Superman, but Perry knew about Lois and Superman not only because the tabloids were relentless back then, but that's over. And now that Superman has returned, it could start up again, but they've been discrete and that pleased him.
He looked to his left and Lois and Clark walked in together. He frowned but didn't think anything of it. "Good morning you two."
"Morning Chief," they spoke at the same time.
Not that again, he thought. "The staff meeting is in half an hour."
"We'll be there Chief," Lois said. They headed to their private office, coffee cups in hand.
Now back in their office, the door closed, and they logged on. "Nothing has changed," Clark said and watched as she took a seat and booted up her computer.
"Nothing, except…" she hesitated.
"You know the truth and it's between you and me, no one else; right?"
She frowned. "Of course, but why would you ask that?"
"No reason, only curious about the staff and how everyone will be talking about Lois and Superman again."
"Oh, do you mean gossip? We can't control any of it. Jason may have hurt the pony, but Richard said that the pony felt startled; that's it."
He sighed and watched her for a minute. "Yes, I know. Richard will be told that Jason is Superman's son and if he visits him on a regular basis, it will come out."
"You're right; Richard will be told the secret." She said hating the idea.
"Let's get to work; it'll take our minds off of it for the time being," he suggested.
A little while later, after the staff meeting, they received a case that they could sink their minds into if only for a day or two. Perry sent his notes by email about the case, but Lois felt stunned and worried.
"I know this case, which means he's out of prison and he's back," she said fuming inside.
"Who is it?" He read the notes again. "I don't believe it."
"Lex Luthor, of course," she said with disgust and anger.
"Lex Luthor, but why is he out of prison? Everything he did to me on that island. I can't believe this."
"Yes, it's him. He blames you for his downfall, his reputation, and his stint in prison, all of it. That's why he still hates you. He's out there somewhere waiting. You can't forget about him."
"Believe me; I haven't forgotten." He stretched to relieve the pain in his back only a little. "Have you heard anything? Perry's notes don't mention the past and everything he did to me to kill me."
"No, I haven't heard anything," she replied. "Perry would have said something before he just dropped this into our laps."
And with those words, Perry knocked and entered. "I can tell by your faces you read my notes about Luthor being released from prison."
"Yes, we read it." Clark came closer getting upset. "Perry, why didn't you tell us about this before?"
"I only found out this morning about his release," he replied. "I'm sorry about that."
Clark walked over to the window. "I know I shouldn't be concerned about Luthor but now that he's been released, I can't help but think about him and what he did to this entire city not only Superman, Lois's son and everyone in Metropolis. I've even dreamed about losing all the people I care about, everyone."
"Don't worry, he's going back to prison, and we will see that it happens, the sooner the better," Perry said.
"Perry, what else can you tell us about this? Was he released on parole? Anything at all?" Lois asked.
"No, everything is in my notes; that's all I have, but that's a good question about parole, whether he's been restricted to leaving the country, owning a weapon, all of it. I'll make a few calls to my lawyer here at the paper and I'll email you whether I find out anything. Okay?"
"Thanks, Perry," Clark said and then he left them alone.
"I'm still in shock. All of this happened after I left earth. What can you tell me about the trial?"
"Clark, he entered an insanity plea. After that, multiple psychologists examined him for weeks, but then the judge accepted his plea and sentenced him to an insane asylum until they think he could be released to prison for a minimum of five years. All of his 'friends' on the island were either killed or had no defense and they were sent to prison. Five years later, and now Lex is free."
Clark put his head in his hands. "Oh no, this is all my fault."
"Please don't go there; Lex knew they would think he's insane."
"Yes, that is true; he knew," he said thinking of Lex's crazy schemes.
Lois is wondering about it. "Clark, he needs to be sent back to prison."
"He can't be retried for the same crime."
"But there was no trial and maybe," she said thinking there could be a chance.
"How do we prove that he wasn't insane? There must have been specialists who examined him to prove he's not insane and it didn't work," he said, frustrated about this entire mess.
She sighed. "Why did Perry give us this case? There's nothing we can do about it. Lex is out there, and we can't stop him or whatever he's planning, and you know he's planning something."
"Yes, there's nothing we can do," Clark said, but then he had a thought.
"Superman?" They both had the same thought at the same time. A dawning expression lit up their faces.

Later that evening, at the house:
It's now after dark, still worried about Luthor and any plans he's making out there doing something bad or they had to find out.
"Now, Lois, I don't know about this," he said standing in the living room in the costume.
"Clark, we have no other choice. You have to scout around, listen and find him. We can't sit around and wonder what he's planning; we need to know. Think of Jason, he could find out the truth, then what?"
"Lois, he knows about Jason. Remember the yacht, the kryptonite, and the piano?"
She gasped. "Oh no, you're right; he knows about our son." Her eyes watered.
He pulled her close. "Don't think about it. I'll find him; I won't stop until I do; I promise. It's late. Now, I'll be far up in the sky, and no one will see me unless a plane flies near to me."
"Be careful." She's worried. "But I'm thinking he could be anywhere. He could have left the country; how do we find out?"
"We'll ask Perry tomorrow; there must be a way to find out if that's true. I'll text you if I find him. I have my cellphone; you can call me, but it'll vibrate, not ring and I'll know it's you. No one else has my number."
"Only me?" She smiled.
"Yes, only you and Mom, of course. Come here." He pulled her close again. "It's time."
She walked him to the back door and watched him fly away.
~o~o~
Clark hadn't flown this much since he returned but he loved flying. He didn't love it at first; adjustments had to be made, but now he loved it. Jason will love it too, whenever that may happen, but he'll be there for him.
He's high enough and then he listened. A lot of noise this time of night, but it will quiet down after midnight. Several hours later, it's far quieter and he decided to search the buildings where his 'friends' stayed near to the dock where the yacht was moored before it sank later that day; his private residence also near to the dock. He searched the entire city, but no luck. Then he remembered that Lex could have bought another yacht after he left the asylum or before he was sent there years ago. He found several yachts near to the Metropolis marina. He scanned the larger ones and listened then it's him, but he's asleep. He didn't see any other people except a captain but no crew that he could see. He flew higher and texted Lois. She didn't reply, but she's asleep.
He flew home and entered the back door; she left unlocked for him, but he realized he will need a key and soon. Now in her bedroom again, but he thought of his dream, but he never imagined they would share the dream but only the best parts; his love for her shown through all the jealous parts but it's still there. She didn't remember his reveal but now that she knows the truth, he felt silly about it now, but his heart still loved her, needed her and the dream was a good thing.
He twirled out of the suit and climbed into bed careful not to wake her, but she's not asleep but awake waiting for him. "Welcome home."
"It's good to be home. You received my text?"
"Yes, and I fell asleep but for a few hours. I'm so happy you found him, now what?"
"I thought about it, and I have a device that will track the yacht."
"That's great, but we need to know what he's planning, and you can't be there 24/7."
"I thought about that, and I'll ask Perry to help us. He may know where we can find a device that could listen to him."
"Perry has something like that?"
"Of course, he does," he replied smiling. "Go to sleep."
"Yes sir," she said and snuggled against his heat.
"Oh, wait a minute. How will you explain why you need the device?"
"Superman needs his help. He'll understand."
"Perfect." She closed her eyes, but she needed a kiss goodnight, and he did too and yes one kiss leads to another.
~o~o~
The Planet the next morning:
After Clark explained why Superman needed the device, Perry felt suspicious. "Is this Lois's idea?"
"No, Perry, Superman needs it to spy on Luthor. She knows about this if that's what you're asking."
"Look Clark, I know Lois and Superman are friends, but it makes you wonder. Aren't you worried about their friendship?"
"Of course not; I trust her and he's a friend to both of us," he replied but he needed to nip this now before he began this nonsense again.
"Alright, I understand." He opened his locked filing cabinet and handed him the device. "Do you want me to show you how to use it and you can tell Superman?"
"Yes, I know how, and I'll tell Superman. Thanks Perry and Lois thanks you too."
"No problem and good luck," he said.
"Thanks again," he said and left his office and sighed to himself. Back in their private office, he showed Lois the device. "Now I'll find the yacht and attach it. I'm not sure about the range on this device. I'll ask Perry before we leave the office today."
"Yeah, if it's not close enough; it could be a waste of time."
"I thought the same thing."
"Then we're all set to find out what he's up to."
"Yes, we will, and we can alert the authorities," he said.
"Do you think we should, alert the authorities?"
"And why shouldn't we? Suppose he's trying to blow something up and build who knows what? We can't leave this to chance, plus it will prove that he's not insane but a calculating genius up to no good."
"You're right about that; proof is what we need, and this will work; I'm sure of it."
"I just thought of something. Did you scan all those places for… kryptonite?"
Stunned to think he hadn't done it. "No, I didn't."
"Clark, how far away before you feel the effects? You must know the answer to that question, or we could be in serious trouble."
He had no answer for her thinking of the island when kryptonite was everywhere; there was no escaping it.

A/N: I need an answer to that question. I only assumed it's a few feet plus I saw it in the Timm's verse animation, only a few feet away. I hope you enjoyed this. Come back next week for another chapter. Thanks for reading. A comment or a kudo would be nice.
