"Try and Get Some Sleep"
"Alright Stella, you've got 2 minutes to say goodbye to Severide." Sylvie declared as she gathered her things from around the loft. "After that, no more until tomorrow afternoon."
Stella rolled her eyes at her best friend and maid of honor. She turned to face her fiancé and wrapped her arms around his neck.
Severide put his arms around Stella's waist and pulled her close, placing a kiss on her forehead.
Stella groaned. "We actually agreed to this? Why?! Why did we let her talk us into this?"
Severide chuckled. "She insisted that something needed to be traditional."
"Screw tradition." Stella scoffed. "When have we ever been traditional?"
Stella was right. They weren't the most traditional couple, and their entire relationship (both personal and professional) was the farthest thing from traditional. However, you just don't say no to Sylvie Brett.
Paramedic Sylvie Brett was sunshine and smiles but wedding planner Sylvie Brett? She was a force of nature in the best and scariest way. When she stepped up and volunteered to help plan the wedding, Kelly and Stella were thrilled to let her run with things. It was a decision they did not regret until this very moment, when she was adamant the bride and groom not see each other before the wedding.
Severide hummed in agreement. He moved his hands from Stella's waist to cup her face and kissed her again.
Kelly Severide, the epitome of a ladies' man, was getting married tomorrow. That alone was mind-blowing, but the fact that he was going to marry Stella Kidd was more than he ever thought possible. She had changed his life in so many ways and, although he swore he'd be better and actively tries to do so, he still sometimes felt she deserved a better man. He was far from perfect, but she loved him anyway.
He pulled away from the kiss and looked Stella in her eyes. "It's not too late to elope, right?"
"Definitely not," Stella agreed, conspiratorially. She smiled and kissed him again, her arms still wrapped around his neck.
Stella didn't think she'd ever get to this point again, not after her marriage to Grant ended the way it did. There were even points during her relationship with Kelly where she thought they'd never make it, but here they were. Their relationship still wasn't perfect, they still had their issues, but they both worked too hard to throw everything away. Stella might've doubted their relationship at times, but she never doubted her feelings for Kelly. And, despite his sometimes stupid way of showing it, she never doubted Kelly's feelings for her.
Now here they were, just one sleep away from being husband and wife.
Truthfully, it hadn't been that long since Kelly got down on one knee in the middle of a raging fire and asked her to marry him, but after Squad had a close call with the diving rescue, neither one of them wanted to wait too long.
Even though they were both ready for their wedding day to finally arrive, neither of them wanted to spend the night apart. It was the sharpest double-edged sword.
The sound of someone dramatically clearing their throat forced them to break apart. When they turned to look, they saw Sylvie standing near the front door, several bags at her feet and her hands on her hips. Matt was standing in the kitchen, trying and failing to hide his smile behind his beer bottle.
"Time's up you two."
Severide started to say something, but Sylvie interrupted him. "Nope, none of that. It's less than 24 hours, then you two will be together for the rest of your lives. You'll be fine for just one night. Just pretend you're on shift."
"If we were on shift, we could corner each other in the turnout room." Stella grumbled under her breath. "Or the showers."
Severide chuckled.
Sylvie raised an eyebrow. "What was that?"
"Nothing," Stella groaned, though it sounded more like a growl, and kissed Severide one more time before untangling herself from his arms and walking over to Sylvie. "You're lucky I love you."
Sylvie smirked at her best friend then turned her focus between Casey and Severide. "Remember, you're meeting up with Cruz and the others before you head to the venue tomorrow. Do not be late."
Severide gave her a mock salute and Sylvie rolled her eyes before grabbing the bags at her feet and all but dragging Stella out of the loft.
Casey and Severide exchanged smiles and chuckles.
... ... ...
Just a few hours later, Severide got a FaceTime call from Stella. When he answered, he saw she was lying in bed and the room was dark. He got up from the couch, where he and Casey had been watching a game, and walked into his room.
"Hey," he said, as he sat on his bed. "I'm surprised Brett didn't take your phone for the night."
"Oh, she tried." Stella rolled her eyes. "She stepped out to make sure the other girls are here and good for the night, so I'm seizing the opportunity. I just wanted to say good night since we got interrupted earlier."
"Try and get some sleep," Severide said with a soft smile. "Tomorrow's a big day."
Stella smiles, teasingly. "Really? What's happening tomorrow?"
Severide laughed. "I love you, Stella Kidd."
"I love you too, Kelly Severide."
