Aro's Point of View

"Ah, so this would be Bella!" Her heart rate accelerated immediately and because of this Edward started growling at me. Technically, his open hostility would be enough to have him killed. It was a good thing I wanted him on my guard.

"Edward, son, he won't harm Bella." Carlisle insisted.

Edward, like many other minds I have read, had that same overprotective edge around their mates.

"Well how should I know?! Especially when I can only read his surface thoughts and he's only thinking about spiders making couches!" Ah, this brings me back. It was a vampire named Samuel who had an ability to control spiders. Oddly, he decided to start a couch business and was surprisingly successful as the couches were soft and durable. We even had a few of them in the castle. I think there was actually one in this room.

Ah, and there it was! It was a brilliant cerulean blue. I had actually bought it a century earlier and the color was bright as ever.

Taking my attention back to the present moment, I said, "Edward, I can understand your protectiveness, but like Carlisle instated I will not harm Bella."

I waited for a moment and he seemed to calm down slightly. After that, I approached her. I wondered since I met her if my gift worked on her or not.

"My dear, I remember from Carlisle's mind that Edward cannot read your thoughts. Would you allow me to try?" She nodded after looking at Edward for confirmation. Whatever I had been expecting next, this had not been it. After taking her hand in mine I saw nothing, I even closed my eyes and tried to concentrate. Still nothing.

"ha! ha! ha!" I laughed; she had stumped me. Edward who could hear thought's from a difference couldn't read Bella, but I thought I would be able too. After all, Edwards gift was a lot less potent than mine.

"Fascinating, I cannot read you." Still having my surface thoughts directed at spiders making couches, I thought on a more subconscious level about how wonderful it would be to have Bella on the guard.

"I was wondering-"

I was cut off by Edwards snarl, but I continued on anyways, "Like I was about to say before I was interrupted, I was wondering would you like to join my guard after your turn?" She blinked in surprise, "Um- uh, sorry sir-"

"Aro" I insisted.

"Right, um Aro, I'm sorry but I'd like to stay with the Cullen's and take up their diet after my change-"

"She's not going to be turned! Her soul is too precious to be dammed to hell!" He snarled out and used vampire speed to stand protectively between me and Bella.

I smiled a bit wider, not letting the disappointment show on my face, "Of course, of course, you would want to keep the animal diet. I was just asking,"

Now looking at Edward I said, "but Edward, the offer expands to you as well if you would wish to reconsider." I didn't expect him too with the open hostility, but I was determined and of course patient. I could bare to wait another century or so for the gift's the Cullen's possess.
